I love the way you don’t assume that everyone has all the right equipment and give other options. Don’t know how you don’t have 10m subscribers as you make everything seem achievable even for beginner bakers. Thanks for all the tips.
I’m so happy to get this recipe. My mother died in 1960 and she always made this every Christmas. I’ve never been able to make it like she and you. Thank you! 🥰
When I was a kid, my mom always made "Betty Crocker" date bar from a box mix, it was quick & easy. Everyone loved them. They no longer make the box mix unfortunately. I love they way your bars look. You always make it easy and enjoyable to make your recipes too. I will have to make these. P.S. It's always a treat to see your beautiful dog!
I absolutely love the way you take time and explain things a little so everyone regardless of what terms or measurement system they use can follow. Thank you!
Fun fact: hands are the most useful tools to have in a kitchen! And this looks like what my mom use to make me, before I went diabetic. I can't eat them, but looking at all your recipe is a great pleasure for me! And thank you so much for using the metric system along with US measurements.
Loved your recipe and video, Stephanie. I've made these dates squares for years. My only twists on your recipe are to cook the dates with 50% water and 50% fresh orange juice. It's because I like the orange presence with the dates. I use less orange zest but keep the vanilla flavouring. I don't puree the date mixture because, as a personal preference, I enjoy the texture of the date filling as is.
I haven't had date bars in decades. I remember, as a kid, my mother would go to the bakery and I got to choose one free item...the lady always wanted to give me a cookie but I always chose the date bar, they were my absolute favorite. I ordered dates and as soon as they arrive I'm making this.
I have a clamshell container of dates in the fridge right now. Think this will be my next baking adventure; they’re so easy to make. Probably will use almond extract (since I’m out of vanilla) and stir in some toasted walnuts in the date mixture. Thank you for sharing.
i dont mean to be off topic but does someone know a way to log back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my password. I would love any tricks you can offer me
@Brian Ryder I really appreciate your reply. I got to the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. Takes a while so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I love your deliciuos recipe....it make me smile all the time....thanks again aunty(with respect)...in our place call aunty, and uncle is much respect name call to elderly person.
Thank you ma'am for this typical Canadian treat recipe. As per Ayurveda, eating dates warms up your body, so eating it in winters along with nuts and seeds is a good idea. As for "matrimonial cookies" , my guess is , either it used to be served exclusively at weddings in those days, or, it is called so due to "matrimony" between the dates and the oatmeal :) Best regards !
You Stephanie.. Just wanted to let u know.. I tried it eggless chocolate cake.. and it was perfect.. a hit. Thank you so so much.. really appreciate Be blessed..😍😍😍❤
Yum, easy to make, and I just may make these, but I would lift them out of the pan to cut them, so much easier to cut them that way..... we make an oatmeal bar with different kinds of jam inside and they are easy & delicious my Daughter and I made them before and we loved them.....good job Stephanie.....
Hi Stephanie, I have a question please can I substitute the firmly packed brown sugar with white sugar + molasses? If yes what are the measurements ?! Thank you for your delicious recipes.
As a child in New Zealand 🇳🇿My Mother Made a Square with crushed graham cracker crumbs , chocolate, date , marshmallows. The year was 1966 . I can’t remember the name of it . Great Instructional Video. 🌸
Let me put this way .. you inspired a young man from thousands miles of the states .. i established my local business based on too many tricks that you taught me .. million thx wont be enough for you chief 🤗
Yum. I miss these so much from when we used to make the mix at home. I thought we used to bake the bottom crust 10 minutes first for the box mix, then add next two layers. Might help any crumbling issue.
Stephanie! This looks amazing! I love that you show us at the beginning how it's going to look like and you explain everything so well! I could be wrong, but I am thinking that you may have a lot of extra food around, and I like to eat, and I'm thinking I could come live with you and help you eat food. I could go with you on dog walks, and do the unpleasant part? You just say the word and I'll pack up and come help :)
Sue Dean: you’re so cute. I would love it if she was my friend and next door neighbor! I really think she is so kind and her friends are lucky to have her.
Stephanie,I also love and enjoy making and eating homemade rice Krispy treats.During the winter months here in Edmonton I have seen Christmas rice Krispy cereal. Will this colored red and green rice Krispy cereal be ok to use them to make these treats with mini marshmallows, vanilla extract in your recipe
❤️. I love date bars. I have a recipe but I will try yours. They look delicious! Plus my recipes makes a big pan and sometimes you only need a few. Thank you

My dad received a TON of dates as a gift from family in the middle east. I had been looking for a recipe for them and these look perfect. Thank you!
I absolutely love the way you take time and explain things a little so everyone regardless of what terms or measurement system they use can follow. Thank you!
Love that you are updating old videos. Thank you for making "newer version" videos.
I made it today. It is delicious. I add cinnamon, cloves and orange blossom water to the dates. Lovely. Thank you.
Joy my mother called it matrimonial cake. I love watching you cook and bake as you are so neat and clean in the process.
Yes, my Mom used a similar name Matrimonial Bars.
I never get tired of watching your video’s. I have been a fan for a long time. I love this recipe because it’s a no sugar recipe! Much healthier!!

Excellent variation- it's almost the exact same way I make them.
You brought back childhood memories for me. My mom made these and the house smelled so good. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

I made these with chopped walnuts in the 1960’s ! Forgot about how good these are warm from the oven! Add a little bit of butter on top while warm !
Yum, easy to make, and I just may make these, but I would lift them out of the pan to cut them, so much easier to cut them that way..... we make an oatmeal bar with different kinds of jam inside and they are easy & delicious my Daughter and I made them before and we loved them.....good job Stephanie.....
I am so happy to looking you making any cake is so nicely clean exemple marble cake , blueberries cheese pound cake ....Thx for teaching
I found adding 1/2 cup of apple juice to water gives filling more flavor, it's also easier to spread. Great recipe 👍
Hi Stephanie, I have a question please can I substitute the firmly packed brown sugar with white sugar + molasses? If yes what are the measurements ?! Thank you for your delicious recipes.
Look delicious thank you Stephanie.
I like your omitting sugar from the date filling -- because dates are already quite sweet.

the best flavor which goes well with the dates is cardamom 😋
Love these squares! Thx!!

Yes, you can do that.
Thanx for sharing. I would never have thought of using dates in this way before 😘
💐💐💐💐💐thank you for your delicious recipe.
If I’m not a fan of dates, can I substitute them with something else? Like maybe raisins or dried apricots or something else?
Buy a can of cranberry sauce, ( NOT the jelly kind ) and use that instead . Equally delicious.
These look so good. Thank you for the recipe. I wonder if you could substitute figs for the dates and make fig newtons.
That should work.
Beautiful stuff u r the best😁😁🤩🤩
Thank you !
We're stocking up on dates for Ramadhan for breaking our fast, so we have lots of dates at the moment. I will definitely be making this for my family.
Love this recipe 🌹👏🏽

Looks Delicious, thank you !
I really love your channel. I do want to they this recipe, but is the top always so crumbly, and is there enough of it? Does the top harden with time?
It is crumbly when first baked. But after storing it does soften.
@@joyofbaking Thank you very much, Hoy, I shall definitely try it. How exciting! Thank you for taking the time to respond.
❤️. I love date bars. I have a recipe but I will try yours. They look delicious! Plus my recipes makes a big pan and sometimes you only need a few. Thank you
Just made these! But is it ok for the oatmeal layer to be so soft it crumbles while holding it??They turned out so delicious by the way thank you
They will firm up if you put them in the fridge. Next time you might want to bake them a little more.

How many videos do you have on UA-cam On dates squares ? Second one i seen.
This is an updated video. It is the same recipe with more detail.
Can we add some minutely chopped pistachios in the date mixture?
Yes that sounds delicious.
For a 9*13 pan just double the recipe? I have used dried apricots too. Thank you.
I have made this and the taste is superb! I use the ground cinnamon since it enhances the flavor and of course, smells wonderful! I will make this for my friends who celebrates Eid al Fitr since dates are definitely favorite snack after fasting. Thanks for sharing this recipe! Lovely recipe as always!

I miss my grandma making these when I was a kid. I'll have to make these sometime soon. They look really yummy.
I want to try to bake date square , because we had plenty of dates but its puree ,how many cups i will put?
You need 3 cups (400 grams) of pitted dried dates. www.joyofbaking.com/DateSquares.html
Can I use powdered jaggery instead of sugar
I’m sorry but I haven’t tried that so I don’t know how that would work.
Love this recipe! Wondering if there is a way to use less butter and less brown sugar to cut out calories 🙈 I shall experiment - im inspired :)
it's too good
Could you add pecans or walnuts to the batter?
Yes you could do that.
Will try
Hafa adai from Guam, looks yummy
