Lanier Smith and I sit and discuss the differences between Dior Privee Collection's Oud Ispahan vs Diptyque's Oud Palao. I find the Dior Oud Ispahan has gone through reformulations and it's not the same scent or perfume it once used to be. The complaints I received about Dior Oud Ispahan got to me to think that it has been reformulated in recent times I find that the Diptyque Oud Palao which was launched late last year to be similar in smell to Dior's Oud Ispahan with subtle nuances. So Lanier and compare the two scents together and how similar and different they each are. So watch to find out what we both think of these two fragrances.

Tried my decant of palao and I love it! lasted all day. now that ispahan is reformulated I'll go full bottle with the dyptique.
I just bought it last week from Dior website and it lasts over 15 hours on my skin, I’m not sure if it’s really been reformulated or no but it’s so fantastic and sensual.

i bought a 250ml bottle of Oud Ispahan from the Dior boutique a month ago; I made a comparison between an old 125ml and this new one: and no, it has not been reformulated. It is still bold, potent, thick, 24+ hours lasting.

I got my first bottle in late 2012 which most likely your's was pretty close but they went through reforms in 2014 I read somewhere and I don't know if it's gotten and further reforms since then either. :(

I have an old little sample bottle and I compared with the Oud Ispahan (I received as a gift). Both of them has the same projection and longevity. That new bottle (125ml) was bought from Maison Christian Dior (in a box with cushion, very good presentation and came with samples from other Dior private blends). The new scent lasted for 16 hours + And the trail of that perfume (New Oud Ispahan) lasted for 10 days on my shirt (I didn't wash it to check) and even on a handkercheif I sprayed (I kept it to smelll if there is any change) and that lasted for 15 days. I guess this perfume is for the women. It has a middle eastern vibe. Pardon me, if I am wrong.

Smelling Great Fragrance Reviews a little input my bottle of Ambre Nuit which i love but always found weak seemed to get a lot more dense over the years 👍

Always great to see the two kings of SF collaborating! Is there any chance the newer formulation of Oud Ispahan is more "medicinal" than the old? I see this as a regular criticism of OI and I slightly agree, though I still regard the composition as refined. It sounds like I still need to try Oud Palao, regardless!

That Lacoste cardigan is blowing-up Lanier! I gotta get me one of those, a very very classy piece! Otherwise, it was yet another great collaboration by U2! Re-formulations are a stroke of genius by the frag industry... HOW SO?!?! We spray 2 or 3 times as much to get satisfaction; and thus, our bottles wind-up disappearing much much quicker than before- very clever, but a rip-off in reality😳
i recently tried the dior in the dubai duty free and it was HEAVENLY. i wore it on the airplane (probably not a good idea lol) and it lasted probably 8-10 hours on me which is super rare for any fragrance with my skin. i really would love a bottle but it’s out of my price range.
Glad I could find somewhere where people were talking about this. I believe I smelled the crazy original in Selfridges London as recently as June this year only to get a decant 4 months later and get the weaker one. Still great, but so different.

Iv been trying to find the strong stuff of oud ispahan and i ran across a guy that said hes worked for dior
"I worked for Christian Dior for many years. PEOPLE Have been told it was watered down. But , the truth is that between 2013-2015 the climate in the region in which the oud tree was , received more water in those u ears versus other years . I can vouch for Christian Dior they never water down nor do they substitute any ingredients for synthetics."

Thanks much for the Diptyque comparo. I have been exploring the house over the last few months and have been pleasantly surprised by the house overall. They are almost like a "socially acceptable" and relatively inoffensive niche house. I can easily get away with their juices at work! Wow!

nice to see both of you. great close ups, and both looking in top form. Oud palao is an extreme for the brand, Once you get pass the "dirty" note it wants to seat on the niche vip table. im not familiar with Dior. but it will be nice to see them both compared old and new ref. 💚💚🍀🍀🇺🇸🇺🇸😻🌈

oud palao is nuclear strength, it lasted over 24 hours on me (!!!!!) i plan on getting a bottle sometime, but even 75ml is too much for my liking (good price though), wish it came in a 40 or 50ml
I love diptyque! im kinda glad its not so spoken about so i dont smell like everyone else. ha! Oud Palou is on my christmas list. What are your thoughts on volutes? I love tobacco. Does it smell like Chergui by serge lutens? I don't want to get it if it does since I own Chergui already.
Not at all like Chergui. The only thing that's similar about Volutes and Chergui is the tobacco note! :)

I have a 3 gram of pure oil Cambodian oud and the smell is like a diesel after dabbing. And the magic only come after hour. Creamy, smokey, leathery, chocolaty, ancient, dark, bold, rich... It's so complex.

when you say oud palao is more potent, does that mean in scent only? or does it last and project better oud ispahan also? i love both and i am trying to decide which one to get for my upcoming birthday

One of the best fragrance reviewers out there and your videos were a pleasure to watch but this video got me feeling dizzy. Not because of the reformulation but because of the subjects moving all over the frame and frequent zoom changes that weren't smooth and fluid
Yeah unfortunately I was testing out a new camera. I got rid of it. I do have several more to air that are shot with this camera but I have to say there wont be any new videos shot with it anymore. Thank you for being honest! :)

2014 or prior. Anything after that it started becoming watered down. That's my theory and opinion. :)

I really love this video. I have a little decant of Oud Ispahan that I purchased from ebay. It is very long lasting, and I hated it. I'm trying to better understand this fragrance through the eyes of Sebastian and through the experience of Lanier Smith. The decant I have is very animalic, urine like. I'll love to smell Diptyque Palao so that I can better compare the two but so far I only have the Dior version. About Diptyque I have to add that I have slowly become a fan, I love most of its line so far. Dior on the other hand have become for sure not one of my choices.
Do you know if Dior is really discontinuing oud ispahan and which other one is gonna be killed too?

I couldn't resist and bought Oud Ispahan today (don't know the old formulation though). I like it a looooooot. It smells like sex 😜 And another one I bought that nobody talks about is "Sohan" from the Penhaligon's Portrait collection - an amazing oud too!! Maybe it would be something for you?
Ahh if I would have paid retail prices for Dior and got the watered down version, I would have went to France and took my money back from Mr. Francois Demachy.
