I am a 31-year-old solo sailor working on my circumnavigation. My boat is a 27-foot-long sloop named Gecko. Follow me on my journey as I learn about heavy weather sailing, the trials of being solo, and my adventures in paradise.

Thanks for watching and subscribing! You guys are the best!
“That’s future Hollie’s problem…………………sucker!!!” That line is a gift to humanity.
Holly, it was great to meet you in person whilst you were in NZ and a pleasure to help you in a small way with your final departure. I’m pleased - but slightly envious - that you escaped our NZ winter and made it to the warmer islands. Hopefully next year that will be me on Fogg! 😊
Cheers Rob
You were so lucky to meet the wind hippy herself!
Waking up on a sail boat in a place called Smuggler's Cove, now that's living. I know how Geck feels, I don't like cold weather either. Enjoy and sail on Captain, sail on! ⛵😎
You are truly an inspiration Holly. I just turned 61 and find myself at a crossroads in life. I gave up sailing and my 42 ft Morgan about 25 years ago when life happened and had my dream interupted, but it has never left me. I am now looking at smaller singlehand type sailboats and preparing to go all in thanks to you and Barry the old seadog lol. Who knows, perhaps our paths will cross someday. The south pacific is my dream sailing grounds.
I admire your tenacity young lady be safe on your travels.
Now there is one very happy Holly with Gecko once again on the beautiful briny. Fair Winds and Following Seas Skipper🏴☠
Τhanks to your videos my evenings are much more better !!! Greetings and hugs from Heraklion Crete of Greece !!! San Nikolas always i hope that protect you as all the sailors !!! Perhaps the only female sailor with such deep knowledge...!!! You have my admiration and appreciation!!!
What you said about "the real reason you live on a boat, was for these moments" touched my heart. I feeling of serenity and happiness came over me. How amazing your life is. What an incredible human you are. Thank you for sharing with us. ❤
Love your videos please stay safe.
Why can’t you swear? It’s your channel!!! Swear, be nude, be yourself and we’ll all still hang with you. You don’t have to change who you are to be accepted by the sailing community, we all love you.
Another pot of coffee with a Sunrise sounds wonderful right now. 😉
Thanks Tish!
Weird climate: Visibly freezing at the beginning then, the next day, in a bikini, mooning us as you hank on the genoa, only to be freezing again the day after that. Noticed a few 'Holly Wannabe's' popping up on the tube, but they're not a patch on you; Above all, more even than content, filming and editing, what sets your films out above the throng is your well-paced dialogue, with correctly structured phrases in perfect diction and varied vocabulary, that manages to be conversational, without repetition, 'umms and errs' or long pauses making faces. Some vloggers appear as if they're looking at a mirror, but you seem able to look at a camera at any time, place or situation and see the eager faces of thousands of subscribers squeezed into a little window, rooting for you as they follow your adventures. Thus, you seem to never be alone (which, of course, you are not). Good work!
Australia and New Zealand are North of the Great Southern Ocean. Very cold.
Southerly winds are cold.
Northerly winds are warm to hot. So a wind change can significantly change the temperature.
Cheers Gray
Australia
Holly how I envy thee. You always seem to smile through every situation no matter how good or bad. I live in Vermont and dream of living the life you are living. I watch video after video of different people sailing and how I feel that would be the perfect lifestyle for me. I have started a 5 year plan to pay off my debt and learn how to sail. Did I mention that I am 51 years old, so a bit of a late start but I wont let that hold me back. Hopefully in the end of my 5 years I have enough money in the bank to survive until my retirement kicks in 10 years later. Keep the great videos coming and that smile on your face and I will keep on dreaming for now.
65 yr old Vermonter (near Rutland), my dreams are pretty similar to yours, but not as likely to come true. I have a few obstacles in the way.. Minor health issues on land, but could be a problem at sea... I'll probably keep dreaming, but I hope I see a video from you when you launch!
Holy girl, I don’t know why you don’t have 1 million followers currently.
You rock all your videos are cool.
Because we love sailing indeed!
Yeah,,, Am glad you are going to my home country, I hope you like my country
Holy carp, are we really living on a planet? It seems flat, pretty much, here in Georgia, but, even though it’s in the 90s here every day, I just can’t deny that I saw your breath just now! You are so brave! Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us! 🎉🔥❤
@ 10:10 Oh and BTW - I love the disco ball! 😍😁 Life's too short to live without disco! ▶👍👇👏
22:59 love the hair like that and also rob's footage earlier on
This old sailor gets such great enjoyment out of your UA-cam’s, such great beautiful morning shots, one of the things I miss most of the silence and having breakfast. When you have an issue crop up, I actually catch myself talking to the screen telling you what you should do, that’s just too funny. And then the end that’s usually what you do. Like you’re learning on the job as I did and making good decisions. Also, if I might add, I’m glad you’re headed that direction Because Delos is sailing towards all the earthquakes in the Tonga Fiji area that are concern. QuakeFeed app is so handy as well as Shortwave. Glad to see that smile enjoying the sail!
Man, two weeks is a very long time to wait for your GREAT VIDEOS ! But I know you have a life to live.
Glad you got the boat sorted it puts your mind at rest when on a big passage etc,
It’s my day off and decided to enjoy a beer with my lunch and a UA-cam video. I had to laugh when I realized that I was drinking a What The Huck from Fernie Brewing and there you are in New Zealand while wearing a Fernie Brewing hoodie. I also lived in New Zealand for a while. What a lovely kaleidoscope of coincidences.
Your hair looks awesome. I love following your adventures. My dad and I had a 1972 26' Grampian ..he sold it a couple years after my car accident. Paraplegic now and I sail when I can. I sailed in the Mobility Cup in 2007. (16' Martin's) 20 of them. I got a second place finish in my first race. I love and miss sailing so much
Got to say it, Holly, the work you’ve done to Geck really shows. It must be a whole bunch nicer to be below decks now and having a rather more, ummm…trustworthy engine has to be a nice bonus.
Keep on keeping on, your take on life the universe and everything sailing is refreshing and entertaining.
Big respect to you from an old guy in the UK, who’s travelling days are now ended.
Take care of yourself, cheers, R.
😎👍🍻
It’s too late now but the scenery in that part of NZ is pretty stunning. It would have been nice if you could have shown more of it. I enjoy your lovely face but a bit more scenery would be nice. It’s 37 years since I sailed that part of NZ also in a 27 foot yacht but with wife and three small children. I admire your self-sufficiency.
You're a classic example of how the truly great come into being. Highest Blessings
Great video, and perfect timing for a lazy day off
Pleasure to see you again.
22:45 Holly lied to us! 😮😂 But I'm not mad, that's just sailor talk. Thanks for another great video!
😂🤣😂...you called 'Future Holly' a 'sukka'...that's a damn classic.
Your love of the sea and sailing is infectious, as is your smile.....stay safe and fair winds.
Super video - thanks for sharing, love your story and the way you tell it!
yes, noise-cancelling headphones are the best.
Just have to make sure the alarms can send a signal over bluetooth :)
It makes me happy to see you happy to be on sea again ❤
The quality of your editing and capturing new, interesting, beautiful, and real content is truly incredible. I KNOW that it’s hard and time consuming work but your “product” is so worth while. All the minutiae of daily life, your philosophical pondering, and your sailing/ocean lifestyle makes for a very interesting youtube channel. I look forward to the snacks as well as the regular episodes. Thank goodness for Tish, too!
I’m a Kiwi and have really enjoyed your experience of our country. So very sorry the weather hasn’t been great but that’s the effects of climate change unfortunately. Keep doing what you do in your own unique way. You have a style that’s works well for us sailors! All the best for your journey to Vanuatu and I hope the winds are agreeable!! R
Climate change ?
Its winter :-) And NZ winters are very mild - no ice or snow....
what a load of crock.... climate change.... all that nonsense is a scam run to make profits out of dirty renewables.
yeah i know, must be brain
washed by the media into think everything bad is climate change.@@DirkJacobsz
The weather has been unusual due to the fact that a massive volcano exploded in the middle of the pacific and ejected so much water vapor into the atmosphere that it increased the amount of water vapor into air by 15 percent, it will settle down again.
Thanks for sharing Holly!Glad your back on the water!wooooo!nice seeing you smile!
Love your videos..Thank you!!
Be safe..
Thanks for the tip on the noise cancelling headphones. I got some from Amazon and am amazed!
What a wonderful episode! Loved the flow, progress and energy!
Love your videos and wow! the boat 0:02 looks so good now!
A must have for solo sailors is what Sam Holmes has and that is a mighty big LED floodlight mounted on the pulpit Makes coming into anchorages at night a breeze (like daylight)Fair winds

Love the adventure! Stay safe cool lady!⛵
sure am glad to see ya back on the water, and headed to warmer weather.
Been watching your channel
Love your adventurous spirit
Loved when you said well put the sail up cause that's what we do. Love your style
Greetings from San Diego
After watching your episodes and then seeing small sailboats for sale I think "What if?" You give me courage to one day buy my own sailboat
More than anything Holly gives inspiration to other like-minded people. Granted she was raised on sailboats and knows a hell of a lot for her age, but we can all learn from her before we grab our own wind hippy life. : )
Amazing!!! You got this ❤can’t wait to hear about the passage to Vanuatu 🇻🇺
Your happiness is infectious!
well done for enduring about the worse weather NZ has had in many years! constant rain, wind either far too strong or not enough! my farm overlooks the ocean where you sailed from kawau to langs and most days, the sea looked like a washing machine!
Can’t wait to see the new sails.
Always give you a thumbs up, how could i not, amazing, stay safe, thx, matt
Your are an awesome addition to this planet. Thanks for the adventures. I will be in Camden soon, I will thinking of you out there.

Another good update . Cheers. Stay golden
You are making it happen and 100,000 is coming up, hopefully, fast. Stay who you are and be good at what you do and this adventure will continue on... I've been watching since before panama. So sail on. Sail on and be fabulous!!!!
Good Morning From canada have a beautiful day❤
Your adventures have helped inspire me to learn how to sail now I am working on getting my private pilot license and learning languages like Spanish & Hawaiian all in the hopes of getting to travel the world just like you, hope your journey continues to go well.
You should come down here and check out Church of the Lord Jesus Christ in Splendora Texas if you like to travel.
Congratulations, my son just got his pilot’s license. I was parts manager for Catalina Yachts for many years and I noticed that us sailors have thee things in common…..1) Sailing. 2) Flying and 3) Motorcycles. These three you will find in the lives of sailors or pilots…..for some reason they have a link to each other. It’s not uncommon INFACT it’s almost spooky.
Another great video - thank youi!
I am a little anxious about the new sail now, because your rig wih the double spreaders is not the standard Grinde rig, so going with standard measurements for a new sail sounds like not so good an idea.
But I guess I will have to wait for the next episode to be happily surprised :)
Well I guess that was the closest you'll get to where I live. Macleay Island near Brisbane Australia.
Thank you for an enjoyable video.
Cheers Gray
You're such a cool woman Holly. Tish is a gem too! Love the videos and the way you sail. Big fan here, when I make money I will help support your journeys - better than Netflix!
Your hair looks fantastic!!
You look beautiful wind hippie. Keep up the great work thank you for the entertainment.

Everything looks so spiffy!
Leaving problems for Future Holly, har har har...
Hi been watching for a long time, had to say something about your engine stop it can be a great way to start a fire diesel spray 😮 keep the fire extinguisher close, 🌈⚓️
Enjoyable video THANKS 😊
So sorry I didn't get a chance to say Hi when you were in my neighborhood. So Hi from Orewa. 😊
Have a nice sail , be careful 👍
Nice to see you're heading back into the TROPICS! I am sure you will be happier basking in zephyrs and Atolls. Haven't watched since you headed to NZ, so it's good to see you are heading back to your preferred environment. FairWinds to you, brave one. Dorian - SV Arcanum, Oregon (Colonies)
ME : Sees sailing video - subbed!
Wow, the boat looks incredible after your interior refit! So nice!! Wish me luck on my haul out this week- doing a bottom job, hull polish and wax and replacing transducers on my C&C 33 in Portland Oregon. Thanks for the inspiration and stories ❤🎉
Make sure your little wheel spins free on your hull for your speed. Or am I dating myself. I guess they Don’t even use them anymore. I forgot about satellites lol. I sailed for 50 years and now I live in the woods of Idaho, talked about two different worlds
Hi Holly, Michael S here, I wanted you to know that I use synthetic oil in cold temps as it doesn't thicken so much and engines start much easier. Its a little hard to feel like its winter here in California, exactly the opposite, extremely hot. I really enjoyed going to the Redwoods and being in some cool weather. I have a feeling I'd be doing a ton of solo's when I sail so its good to see what its like. By the way, I talk a lot real time to Barry of MaiKai and he has told me where you are. Fair winds !
My dad is an experienced diesel mechanic, he always recommends synthetic oil, says its definitely worth the money.
older engines don't usually get on so well with synthetic oil as they are thinner and the tolernces in older engines are bigger than modern ones. There's also the issue that the actual molecules in synthetic oils are smaller and this can cause leaks aound seals and things
In cold weather you can use a lighter weight 'normal' oil than usual but Holly's engine started easily and it wasn't the 'turning over' speed, just normal starting a diesel without any glowplugs or pre-heaters
Gladd you didnt bleep that out Lady :)) love the vids fair winds safe sails keep the top side up and life is goooood :))
Winter Holly !
@16:45; Your boat and I both share something in common (We both don't like the cold!!!) 😉
It’s been a while since I’ve watched one of your episodes. Glad to see that you’re doing good we just tomorrow I’m trying to talk my wife into getting me a boat who have experience sailing with my father back in the days on the laser to fully enjoy that we still have our fatty knees 8 foot that won’t take us cross the Pacific I’ll keep working at her. We’re both retired I’m 64 she’s 66 and still in good health and figure reminder to do it while we can as what I say never come back to the US nightmare you’re not missing anything
Wow that’s cold! It is beautiful ….
You kick ass! Love your channel. It's nice seeing someone wearing a jacket actually. It's been over or flirting with 100 degrees pretty much every day for a month here in the California Sierra. Safe Travels to you, keep making the great content!
You need to purchase a pump bug sprayer to use as a shower. Heat water, pour it in pump and spray.. Used one for years aboard.
Hope to meet you one day as you are educating me.
ty Holly
i am just learning my sweet little boat 1978 PS 25' double ender full keel.

Fair Winds

Yikes! It's cold girl! You are fearless! Be safe! 😅
