CLIP DESCRIPTION:
Wayne (Mike Myers) impresses Cassandra (Tia Carrere) by speaking Cantonese while his ex (Lara Flynn Boyle) tries to get his attention.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Based on the Saturday Night Live sketch of the same name, Wayne's World is a wacky, irreverent pop-culture comedy about the adventures of two amiably aimless metal-head friends, Wayne (Mike Myers) and Garth (Dana Carvey). From Wayne's basement, the pair broadcast a talk-show called "Wayne's World" on local public access television. The show comes to the attention of a sleazy network executive (Rob Lowe) who wants to produce a big-budget version of "Wayne's World"--and he also wants Wayne's girlfriend, a rock singer named Cassandra (Tia Carrere). Wayne and Garth have to battle the executive not only to save their show, but also Cassandra. Director Penelope Spheeris, Myers and Carvey hang a lot of silly, but funny, jokes on this thin plot, and the energy of the cast--as well as the wild pop-culture references--make Wayne's World a cut above the average Saturday Night Live spin-off movie.

As someone who worked in Hong Kong for 3 years and can understand cantonese well (not perfectly but enough to have a conversation) I have to point out that Tia Carrere is fucking hot.
🤣🤣🤣
Hell yeah!
Now THAT is how you teach Cantonese!
Born there and raised to Gweilo parents. Can confirm shes hot. The only Cantonese I learned was how to swear in a fishing village next to where we lived and tell a green taxi driver where to go after getting too drunk at 7/11 as a teen. Such a wonderful place ruined by the PRC.
I always loved this scene. Tia acted so well here and actually looked surpised and impressed by waynes ability to speak Cantonese. It was a good feel moment that felt natural
I can't believe I actually met her. She was super sweet and of course she's still a babe! She was promoting the 25th anniversary of Wayne's World.
Excellent...
shwing
*Schwing*
If she were a President, she'd be Baberaham Lincoln.
@@jedijones HA, schwing.
"If you label me, you negate me." I have thought on this statement every single day since I first saw this movie.
Yes, the mental health system works on finding the appropriate 'label' (diagnosis) in order to 'treat' you. After a while it becomes apparent they have no interest in seeing you as a person, just some kind of problem that needs some kind of medication or therapy, so one becomes as 'well adjusted' as they are, I suppose. It's very impersonal and demoralising, you do become totally 'negated'. It's easy to label people when you first meet them, but as you get to know them the label should fall away, and you should be able to see them for who they are.
"easy, im still learrning"
proceeds to use a bunch of advanced words
...that's the joke
..the irony is, I feel partly responsible for her self nullifying behavior..
The musical score is an underrated aspect of this movie. It's used sparingly, but it adds wonderful flavor and appropriately accentuates the lighthearted sweetness of scenes like this.
I love the music score...it sounds so soothing and peaceful. To this day it sticks with me.
Absolutely agree with you, also the music in the "oscar clip" scene is great.
I’m guessing you’re referring specifically to the guitar?
Well said! The music is subtle but impactful!
I like the regular songs along with the score too, the songs on the soundtrack. They are so positive and uplifting.
“Interesting… Where did you learn English?”
“College and the Police Academy movies!” 😂😂😂
Tia looks gorgeous in close-up, and the profile of her in those pants and that blouse is mind-blowing! She adds so much to this film!
i have a friend who has almost similar looking to tia carrera
That was really amazing effort from Mike Myers.
Ironically, how Cassandra learned English is similar to how anime fans learn Japanese, by watching the anime they love.
And even with that, the neckbeards still can't get it right. 😂
I learned japanese by other means as i hate anime, id be surprised if someone who watches anime can have a normal basic conversation. On the other hand, im not proud of the tv shows i watched to learn japanese but my street shimoneta repertory is pretty good.
Fun fact: Mike Meyers knew how to speak Cantonese and actually spoke it in the movie.
Amazing 🤯🤯🤯🤯
Link?
@@miketexas4549 no link necessary because he's bsing you. I speak Cantonese, and I understood 20% of what he said. Even Tia's Cantonese is not that great. But that shouldn't/detract from the beauty of the movie itself. Just don't simply believe what people say
@@joc8092 believe what people say? you're talking to a guy that didn't lock down, didn't wear a mask, and didn't take covid injections.
@@miketexas4549 but masking and covid vaccines was for the collective good. I get that masking and vaccinations weren't necessary to protect young people and/or healthy people in general, but they were to protect other vulnerable people. We're not going agree on this, so let's not get into this polarizing discussion here. All I was saying in this post was that I understand Cantonese, and the poster's comment that Meyers understood Cantonese is just not true
ZANG! :D
Shes Damn Zang for sure
its "jeng"
😁👍
That made me laugh so hard in the theaters, I had to leave to go to the bathroom
i speak cantonese and this is hilarious
their accents are so strong it's hard to understand their cantonese
It's comedy. The point of a white guy speaking Cantonese in an exaggerated manner is supposed to be funny. I agree that it may seem insulting to a person who actually speaks Cantonese, but that's a different matter.
nonplayerzealot4 the asian chick wasn't too spot on either
@@musicuniverse1356 "According to Carrere, she is of Chinese, Filipino and Spanish ancestry." Wiki
Tia’s isn’t so bad. It sounds contrived but some of her Cantonese pronunciation sounds authentic.. just certain words but others sounds too stressed
@@musicuniverse1356 she's no Filipino, she's American. She was born in Hawaii.
Damn, a classic. Even the dvd style menu system adds to the nostalgia.
no one understands how honored i am of having the same name as her
are you as pretty?
@@joc8092 no :( i wish
this was funny!!...in the scene in the garage when the car was being inspected Wayne was listening to a Cantonese tape learning the language and speaking it and Garth said stop it man you're scaring me!!!..then Wayne showed him the tape and Garth said oh you're learning Cassandra's language and he said I've never seen you so mental over a girl before are you going to marry her?? and Wayne said Garth in some cultures marriage is punishment for shoplifting!!!...lol..that was funny!!!!
This scene is what made me love Wayne world….this and the advertisement scene with the Reebok and other brands
“ Kiekerguard “ 😂😂
2:10... Never have I seen such a hilarious face!
Such a sweet chat-up scene :)
Every time I hear this I remember that I want to say Zang more in my day to day life.
hearing austin powers and shrek speak english with american accent sounds weird.
utubenotebanco and a Californian Duuuuude accent at that.
MrPete8680 Mike Myers is an accentless guy. Lol.
Myers has a very Canadian accent and he doesn't try to hide it
That's interesting because Mike was born and raised in Canada. He's not at all American.
“Intensity in ten cities” lmao
Tia Carrere didn’t even know what the hell Mike Myers was saying
Tia is the ultimate Robobabe
ZAAAAANG! or (DAAAAANG!) (EXCELLENT!)
Subtitle typer: "Slow down for a bloody second will ya!"
Tia is such a babe in this movie.
She’s a robo-babe! In Latin, she would be called babia majora
She's a babe in every movie
@@basketcas3717she is an absolute beauty. 💯 ❤
Don Cheadle speaks better Cantonese in Rush Hour lol
Yo, momma speaks Cantonese when she gets that d
haha i've always said the word "zang" since middle school haha i would mostly say it as if it meant hot girl. i would zang! or dang she has nice zangs!
Tia carrere is stunning, truly stunning. 💖
Tia made a pretty good ancient speaking English as a Chinese person - reminded me of Mr Miyagi from Karate Kid
The anniversary edition DVD should've included a conversationally functional Cantonese language course as a joke called "How To Zang".
funny when he says you're so pretty and Excellent , i speak cantonese, im surprise that girl not good at cantonese XDD but its so funny
No offense, but I read your comment in a cantonese accent
Why would you think she would speak cantonese well? She is from Hawaii, american born.
Medalion cause they film portrayed her as a girl from Hong Kong that’s why
@@ellaun8722 The character perhaps, but that doesn't change the fact the actress herself is not from there... she learnt just enough to get the gist of what she is saying. Technically I should know cantonese but I was born in North America. I got the general idea what she was saying even without the subtitles.
Medalion yes, her character is meant from HK, hence why I was surprised 6 years ago her Cantonese wasn’t well. Not dissing her, plus, I understood what she was saying. Was just saying, please, not that deep.
OMG IM ON THE FLOOR... THAT WAS THE FUNNIEST THING.
Campbell, that's amazing! I'm Hawaiian, don't speak Cantonese and have no idea what you just said!
Tia is one of the most gorgeous women alive.
I still say "zang!" When something good happens all these years later
Wayne learned Cantonese that fast? If so he is literally the smartest man on earth.
Even a baby could learn Cantonese.
@@ianmartin4062 That is correct. They could learn Cantonese over the course of several years completely immersed in the language.
@@CrazyMunky84 dude, I speak Cantonese, and he only got 20% of that correct. Also noticed 3/4 into the clip he says a few words, yet the subtitles practically translated it as a couple sentences 🤣
Do you know why they call it TUBE in the first place? Because TV's had TUBES inside of them that made them work.
2:10 Dr. Evil
and her name was cassandraaa
and then they fell thru the window. haha
Wayne sure learned how to speak Cantonese very fast after listening to a Cantonese tape one time at the gas station that Phil is employed at even though he said he's still learning at 0:46 but, he's very good at making sentences.
Cassandra is so gorgeous and cute.
It's a movie from 1992...relax on spelling and pronunciation. It's played for laughs and meant to be silly. Being too serious about stuff like this is what makes a person cockish.
Wayne is in love with Cassandra she's A rock star and A great singer.. 😉
Really nice quality, dude
I love her
0:33
I now have something to say to get me a girl. 🙂
I tried it once.....
......I then promptly got a restraining order.
"i need togo now"
That's is a Cantonese that have been struck by an 18-wheeler, somersaulted in the air and landed in a ditch and then eaten by dingos.
2:09 excellent!
Absolutely love this movie 😍😍😍
Zhaaang!
I love American accents. It’s painful, but cute.
He's actually Canadian!
@@Doommaster1994 Canada is "America", just like Mexico. It's in North America. Just like folks from France, Germany, and Italy, are European
@@SC1089 Canadians and Americans sound different are are pretty different cultural so it doesn’t matter L
@@raingirlcat2245 so what continent is Canada on?
1992......WOW
ALOHA Fridays Tia
lol it took years for me to realize that the pause was for the subtitles not because it was awkward
That always confused me too, as a kid seeing it I had just thought it was a "he doesn't know these words so he'll just let the subtitles do it." Now part of me as like, "he said all of that in these few Catonese words? Including "psycho hose beast."
Magnífica película de comedia de tía carrere
I love 💕 it lol like you doing too much lol 🤣
I wish Tia Carrere had made better career choices and done more movies like this...
You think it was all up to her?
I agree she is gorgeous and a great actress. Great singer too
She made bad career choices? Or you mean all the B-movies and B-TV shows?
Could Stacey have BEEN any more desperate?
The Knees who say Anyang say... Hello!
Where can I find the music that plays in the background?
0:33 LOL
Gaaaawwwd, you Cantonese speakers need to lighten up, it’s meant to be ridiculous. As a Scottish person I’m not offended by groundskeeper Willie
Well he's offended by you
Because YOU RUINED SCOTLAND!!!
😝
In the italian version Willie speak Sardinian
You call this a soccer riot?
Sherwin for dam I am lost my mind lol
I can't tell what he's saying without the subtitles.
Wayne's W🌍rld
Kevin Richards World is flat though
True Story: I am related to Tia Carrere (Cassandra Wong). She is my 3rd degree cousin. This is the reason why my parents named me after the Mike Myers character. My grandma has the family and relative records and confirmed my relation to her.
That’s so cool!
ZANG!
Obviously it's not a high priority in this movie but she does say "even your accent is good" so clearly good accents was exactly we were supposed to assume. So the comment makes a perfectly interesting observation. Insulting quick without thinking - what is this, youtube? Are you fucking unkind?
i 😍 wayne Campbell excellent
It's nani from lilo and stitch
Heheh you make me laugh🤣
Xiang!
Zang!
good movie.
Exzellent.
I am a Cantonese speaker and the girl at least made a valiant, respectable, and fruitful effort in speaking her lines in Cantonese. It does sound like it and not in too bad of an accent. Mike Myers isn't even trying to speak the language and is just speaking plain jibberish here.
+GooseHinson Isee your point, but that is the point, that Mike is shit.
lol thats the point
That's part of what makes the scene funny.
He literally gives up on trying to say the lines, that's the whole point of the joke
Zee zah bin do WAH!!
ahhh yes perfect Cassandraaaa lol :) i member!
It's "Nei Hou Leng Aa"
Thank you :3
haha I love 1:33
Zaaaaang
Hey, at least he didn't start saying "Ching chong ching chong ching chong."!
Zangggggggg XD
haha I remember watching this and thinking her accent is terrible and she's supposed to be from Kowloon?
Is that real Cantonese? lol
What if Stacey was fluent in Cantonese??
你很靓啊! 哈哈哈哈
Intensity in Ten Cities, Chiodos song :P
Live at Budokan, name of late '70s albums (more or less) by Cheap Trick and Bob Dylan.
she is so funny and perfect on her accent!!!! hahahahaha awesome as he! whats her name?
tia is understandable. mike myers not so much :P
Tia Carrere's Cantonese is pretty good for someone who doesn't speak Canto. Mike Myers needs a lot of work to sound like a native, he is obviously overacting bc it's a Wayne's World movie.
It also kind of sounds like Cantonese with a Toishan accent.
Zang👍
oh this is funny
