I have been looking at purchasing a similar car here in New Zealand . the driver's car door has a similar problem. . its an easy fix indeed . we have a place here in Auckland called 'Pick a part' where you could buy the part at bargain prices. This clip has been very informative . Thank you good Sir and Hello from New Zealand
My battery in my car key was dead recently,i replaced it but it didnt work,so thanks to this video i managed to reset central locking system and now all works on my ford mondeo MK3.Thank you very much for sharing this knowledge with us..
Thanks for this video. I'm having trouble with my central locking and need to change the lock over since having my doors swapped so this was a double help!
The reset with the four turns and key fob open and shut worked a treat as mine was playing up as i needed to adjust my door handle. Thanks for the info great stuff.
very good video... solved my problem one VERY important thing to note the black sticky stuff that holds the inner plastic cover on..don't let any fall on the drive and then kneel in it... one pair of jeans wrecked doh
Mate, you're a hero! Actually gotta swap the door barrel on this new (well, still old) one, but it's pretty much this job, just save the other bit. Thanks for all your vids, saved me a bleedin fortune! :)
Great video, I really like your videos have been watching for days now. still trying to get caught up on all of them. You always make them very interesting and down to earth, also very educational. Thanks so much, a USA Fan.
Just watch your video re the replacement of the central locking system. Excellent stuff! I have got the same problem with the drivers door and the left passenger door not locking. The bigger problem I have is that the rear left door wud not open. Full stop! How do I fix this issue?
great video ... would have liked to see you put it back together as well but I have almost same prob with my mondeo and never thought it could be the drivers side mechanism
I've done this job on my 02 mondy. Solenoid is easy, but the handle is a pig. I replaced it with a second hand part off a scrap car. It worked perfectly, but 3 months later the problem is back. Seems to be a common fault with these door modules. I can't be bothered to fit another one so I just use the key now, (it's a hard life!).
Hi, Another very useful video, my mk3 Mondeo is suffering similar central locking issues, I’ve bought a second hand module on eBay for £13 and plan on installing it in the next few days, it all looks relatively straight forwards, my concern is disconnecting the black part from the old module and reconnecting it to the new module as I’ve heard those clips are easy to break, it’s the part of the video where it was difficult to show the clips, do you have any tips on this part? Also, does everything go back together easily afterwards? Finally, what do you use to reglue the trim material under the door card? I’m slightly nervous about tackling the job myself but I would be super pleased with myself if I can fix the problem myself without spending money paying a mechanic to do it!!! Many thanks for these great Mondeo vids and your help. Cheers mate.
+Scott Best I think this is a really common fault in that age of car Scott and it gives indications of problems in other doors but being the master one, it's a pretty simple fix. Cheers Martin
Great vid! And amazingly your on/off x 4 worked immediately. Thanks so much. Do you have any tricks for getting the air con to blow warm/hot? My Dagenham dustbin air con keeps switching to cold only.
I have a 51 plate focus that likes to lock its self, when I'm driving a long you can hear slight noise from the central locking, I think its in the drivers door and the handle is hard to pull. It needs to come off I've locked the keys in it once (not fun to get in), but now keep the spare key out of the car that time they were both just hanging there 9pm at night and the engine running.
+Mowersandstuff Yes they can be temperamental this age of car electrics and it sounds like a common problem, especially with Fords of this age. Cheers Martin
very nice and interesting video. So, if my driver's door doesn't open correctly ( I mean sometimes it opens and sometimes it doesn't) should I change this mecanism?. have you ever fixed hydraulic steering? what do you think about that? I'm ssking because in Mexico mondeo mk3 has been discontinued so that pieces are difficult to find. Also if you can tell me an advise, it will be appreciated, or tell me if is worth repairing this kind of failures . thank you so much.
Hi, Yes, this mechanism is probably the cause. I have not fixed the power steering but you have to lower the subframe at the rear to get it out. Quite a tricky job. Cheers Martin
Thank you very much sir! Can I indulge upon your time and ask about my central locking issue please....We have (had) two keys for our Mondeo, one with the "zapper" one without. I broke off the non-zapper key in the driver's door a while back and have since been using the zapper key fob to get us in as I left the broken off key in the door lock (this serves me right for not getting around to sorting it out!). Anyhow...yesterday I went to open the car with the zapper but it didn't work. First thing was a change of battery in the zapper-fob but still no joy. We have a hatchback and so I manually opened the tailgate (alarm went off with hazard lights on - obviously!) scrambled into the driver's seat and started her up but still the alarm didn't disengage nor did the doors open from the inside with the zapper or even by trying to physically pull open the door handles - how crazy a design is that! Mental that the doors can't be opened from the inside of a car regardless of circumstances...anyhow I digress). I thought that I might be onto a winner after seeing your "turn the ignition on and off four times, etc., but sadly no joy. The upshot is that I can't physically open the door to follow your video and get the locking mechanism out! Do you have any ideas how to get all doors to reset to their unlocked position, given that I can't physically put the key into the driver's door lock from the outside. BTW I disconnected the alarm horn from inside the nearside rear wing as it was getting a tad annoying and too the indicator fuse out too! Thanks for your time
@@retrorestore Thanks very much for your quick reply. Fortune smiled on my yesterday and after coming to the conclusion that I had to get the broken key shaft out of the lock and after much firkin around I did indeed manage to get it out. The zapper key could then be used mechanically to open the doors without any probs. The zapper itself still doesn't work on pressing it's buttons but now at least I could do the system reset with a beep after 4 turns, though the buttons on the zapper didn't contribute anything at the end of the process. At least I don't have to go hunting for my nearest Ford garage or breaker's yard...we live in Italy now and don't exactly know our way around that well just yet! There would have to have been a prodigious amount of gesticulating to sort this one out at the breaker's yard I dare say 😆 Cheers Mark
Hi, thanks for the great video. I have a mk3 Mondeo and the off side rear locking mechanism has stopped working and needs replacing but it is failed in the locked position. Have you come across this before? I can't get the door open.

Hi there! Thanks for this nice video and your effort. I am having problem with remote locking on mk3 2001. My central locking locks all 5 doors when locked by the key. But after i try to lock the car by remote button it locks only 3 doors and hatch. 4th door remain opened. (passenger rear). After one more click on remote button all doors are locked and indicator lights pulse 3x. Any clues how to close all doors just with one click on remote key? What could be the problem? Thanks in advance for your patience and effort! Brgds, S.
It sounds like the drivers door lock module like mine. I had a similar problem and this module controls all the other doors as well in my opinion. Cheers Martin

But its only affecting the front passenger door, ive tried the key programing/resetting and it had no affect. Should i change the passenger one first or try the main unit as you did? thanks
Hi mate my zetec mondeo mk3 has no key mechanism on the doors so is solely operated by the key but its intermittent on locking and unlocking any suggestions on how to fix apart from half Gerry can lol
Depends on what door (or doors) are playing up. If its all of them, it could be the drivers lock mechanism as this is the one that controls all of them. If its just one door, it may be that door lock mechanism.

Hi. If this part was broken, do you think it would also stop the electric windows from working when the driver tires to put them up and down? Thanks. Mike
Nice video Martin....can I just pick your brains on this vid?? Im having the trouble you mentioned here, but also my remote key isn't working. The key has been checked and is emitting a signal. So the fault lies somewhere else. Could the module you replaced be responsible for this or is there something else in the car that may not be reacting to the remote buttons being pressed?
+garfield4108 Hi, I would try the reset procedure first as in the video. The key sometimes didn't operate for us as well so I think it would be worth changing that door module first as it controls all the other ones. Cheers Martin
+retrorestore Hi Martin, thanks for replying. I might have an issue there. ....the remote fib blade has already snapped. Im getting by with the spare. The locks are knackered. Door lock completely, ignition not too bad. A locksmith friend said if I can get both barrels to him he will rebuild them for me and cut new keys. The ignition looks like being a nightmare. Had it apart the other day and there's a steel plate with sheer bolts protecting it. I'd rather have these barrels rebuilt because if I get 2nd hand I could end up with the same problem. Also I dont want to be messing changing the ECU which I believe reads the code
Martin, I do the trick with four time key turn, central lock computer do reset... Now all door is locking when I press lock button on key twice (second time door lock with light blink signal) When I press LOCK button on key once, the front passenger door not locking. What might be problem? Second thing, when I want to close all windows and slide rule window, long press on LOCK button on key, only slide rule window close. Is there a connection to an incorrect central lock?
Hi Martin. Ever heard of this? 07 STTDCI Mondeo mk3. Plip button locks and unlocks doors, but won't deadlock. Key in door only unlocks drivers door. Similarly, from the drivers seat the door handle lock only works the drivers door. Tried the reset trick, but no good. I suspect it's the drivers door module, but if you know these symptoms, I'd appreciate advice. Now found that only one key will operate properly and neither will unlock boot. BTW, love the vids. Kirk

Not really but it's always best to disconnect if you are in any doubt.
I didn't as there are no bare wires, it's just connectors.
Easy fix is take the lock apart touch / move/ lubricant mechanism then it suddenly working again
thanks
hi mart, my passengers door lock wont lock! is this the same?
It could be but it may also be the passengers door lock itself.
Thanks :)
Didn't work on my ford Mondeo estate 2006 mate thanks
You are magnificent! Great job!
Hi, Thanks for watching bud.
My problem is that the remote works fine but the car cannot be locked or unlocked with the key. I reckon it is also the controller.
Before leaving a comment I'd like to say, that I'm from germany so I hope you understand my "germenglish".
How do you know that this is the cause of the problem? I have apprehension to buy this thing for the car and it doesn't fix the problem. You know what I mean? Thankful for your answer. :)
The problem was with more than one lock and the drivers door controls all the doors so it was the common thing that affects more than one door. Hope you understand.
