The fact hes an invader now is so fantastic. Seeing him just divebomb out of nowhere and wreck shit is awesome
Exaclty and they wouldnt have been able to do it with regular Valstrax so adding in this variant gives us the best of both worlds, unless they decide to add regular Valstrax later down (which I doubt honestly)
and his divebomb is genuinely hard to dodge, I was in the Sandy Plains once and he did that divebomb attack and I had literally no idea where he was... until he one shot me with it
@@deinonychus1948 i mean tbh its pretty easy. After you hear the boom or see him speed up the second time wait about a second and just dive away
@@Dreadmourne the issue is finding where he is in the air, you have to be facing away from it to superman-dive
I do admit though, it does get easier to dodge if you see where he is and you're ready to dive, he's only carted me once with it and that was literally out of nowhere (as he was hiding behind a cliff in the Sandy Plains)
I'd also like to mention that during that same hunt, after fainting to the divebomb attack... I hit Valstrax once and it fainted, it was one hit way from death the entire time!
Valstrax was _made_ for a game with this level of verticality.

The fact that he’s a variant also allows them to put him in the game in the first place. The original Valstrax was docile and only had to be hunted because he... "conflicted" with air traffic. Having to hunt him in Rise would make no sense, especially since we don’t really have a map located high enough to house one in the first place. But an aggressive variant? Gotta kill that guy at all costs!
Yeah even its description in the logs says that several of these aggressive variant have been sighted. Lore friendly :D

@@RyukoKiryuin510 There's a difference between a game not abiding by real world rules and not having internal consistency. Monster Hunter has never had fall damage so it not having any makes sense. It's not realistic, but it makes sense. Someone telling us to kill an agressive monster where the entire lore of the monster is how unagressive it is throughout it's entire life goes against the internal consistency of the games world.
If a world says from the get go "This is how it is", then that's how it is. If it says from the get go that "This is how it is" but then just ignores that whenever it feels like it, that's an issue.
Makes a whole lot of sense since an aggressive variant would be like having a sentient heat seeking missile around that move as fast as a comet and can explode more than once
I can tell you, Valstrax armour is my new main gs set. Because you can comfortably fit in focus 3, crit boost 3 and then even attack up 4 with a go(o)d charm.
Bring along 2 healing palicos and you will never die either.
Also, do you know if handicraft have much value on this set, or is there enough white to not have to sharp before monsters move on?
@@papertonklol4865 Healing is a bit counter productive in my opinion because it will cancel out your resentment. I just have 2 dogs with me for dps, stun and para or one fighter cat for the 30% affinity buff.
Handicraft depends entirely on the weapon you are using (for example it doesn't work with the best greatswords anyway) and how good you are at hitting only with your hardest hits. I definitely have to sharpen before the monster changes zones with the narga gs, but that's fine if you have great whetfish fins, which are an automatic speed sharpening 3. If not you may have to bite the bullet and fight with blue sharpness but considering you have so much attack boosts you'll still deal good damage.
It'll be really hard to fit in handicraft in a set as tight as this, and I don't think it's worth foregoing any damage skill for.
@@dreamz1417 considering i play rageslash, the resentment will almost always be up regardless of cat heals, and it beats out stopping to heal mid fight.
I dont mind sharpening between areas, but i absolutely hate sharpening mid fight. Even with whetfish.
Also, i dont use the narga GS atm, just hate how it looks, and adding a minute or two to my hunts isnt really that bothersome for me.
@@papertonklol4865 I can only speak for doggo healing but I had it on for a few hunts and it cancelled out quite a few resentments during rage slashing.
Well but still, what gs would you need handicraft on? The new mizu one I guess. Valstrax has long white, Tigrex has white that can't be buffed, goss harag needs like 4 handicraft to get to white which is insane. Chameleos maybe!
do you use the full set or mixed? i'm thinking kaiser crown so i don't have to run fighter palico and i get natural crit boost, but maybe full set would be better.

this was my first time fighting valstrax (barely played GU because of the time when it came out in the west) and i thought "oh, it's moving to a different area, time to sharpen" i quickly found out that it was indeed not moving to a different area

Found out if Valstrax is on the map and you're fighting another monster. He can do his around the world/ambush attack randomly from across the map

I love Valstrax so much- new favorite fight in Rise. My first fight: got the ride and used the punisher on Mizutsune, and he vaporized one of the other party members with his death ray. I'm very happy he carted someone, oddly enough.
Also: I have successfully completed the full set and HH. Paired it with my Counterattack 3 talisman and things are looking promising, so far.
Imagine if you could combine dragon heart and alatreons skill so you that elemental defense boost that would also bump up your attack.

If you have a Talisman with 2 Hellfire (by slots, levels, or mixed) you can slot in max level hellfire cloak and bubbly dance.
is hellfire cloak better than resuscitate? both are insane with the val weapons tho
@@piguru925 hellfire helps activate resuscitate. Its a combo, not which one is better. Though, stacking status effects doesn't make resuscitate better
@@davidfowl2647 I think he meant Dragonheart, both are really good, if you have a weapon with a locomotion move like Bow, DB, LBG you can set a hellfire on the field, and if the monster wasn't hit by it yet it will knockout him, if he was hit by it the damage is still pretty good, if I remember it deals 60 damage, in the end you will have caused a really good damage, Dragonheart is awesome against elemental monsters as makes your resistances pretty hight, most of the monster have a elemental and a blight, with 50 elemental you will not take almost no damage and will never have a blight, its a God amor + weapons to farm Allmother Narwa, hight def (400 if full set lv1), 50 all resistances (no blight and almost no elemental damage received), a SUPER HIGHT elemental damage with white sharpness
@@LuisFelipe-pq9lr So long as there's no hunting horn healing you out of the 80% threshold and putting you at massive negative elemental resists. :P

Tip for the Ambush attack: pay attention to the mini map and keep your character facing opposite of where Valstrax is. As long as you run opposite to the attack no superman dive is needed.
You can also watch it in the sky. It will fly up, have one 'burst' of mach speed, then start circling you, then have another burst of mach speed before it starts zig-zaging. That second burst is exactly where the attack will come from.
Valstrax is the COOLEST elder dragon. It's fight is fun, it's theme is amazing, it's design is sleek and badass and it's armor is great too. The more I think about it the harder it is to keep Brachydios at my top spot.
Don't worry, it happens to the best of us. Just become one with Valstrax and you'll be complete

The mutant thing makes enough sense- I imagine Valstrax are vulnerable to some sort of change in their environment that affects their dragon energy production on a chromosomal level? Maybe the rampage has something to do with it...
Valstrax is absolutely my favourite monster, I’m so glad the fight lived up to my expectations, he just feels so fast and dangerous but still fair, I love fighting him so much
I carted to the around the world on my 1st hunt. Not that i didn't see it coming, but the sudden ambush pop up confused me and BAM! back to camp i go.
LOL I just made this set with the same idea, and then the video got uploaded. With my AB3 charm with 3-2 slots + Nargacuga GS I managed to fit in AB7, CB3 and Stun resistance 3 ontop of the normal Valstra armor skills, which as Josh guessed, is insane
Got to enjoy my first actual hunt against it and I have to say this was a thrill and a half. I love how this is basically the fastest monster of all time and how it can just launch attacks immediately.
That and how the ambush literally can’t be blocked even with guard up. Tried it a few times, but got blown away with little effort.
You forgot something, the dragonblight isn’t a curse, it’s a blessing. Because it’s PERMANENT.
What that means is that it instantly overrides any other elemental blight you can get. In short :
- You can’t burn
- You can’t have your wirebugs slowed down by Iceblight
- You can’t get Thunderblighted
- You can’t get your stamina reco down by waterblight
well with +50 ressistance to all elements u won't get any blights anyway

I have yet to make the full set, but when I first checked it out in the shop, I lost it. Its sooooooo good for GS and I CANNOT wait to use it!
I’ve been doing well with the high rank Basarios S Set so far....but if I switch out the arm parts for these, then I would basically streamline all my armor set abilities with the sacrifice of +3 to all resistances going down to +2....but at the same time, giving me more defense stacked onto my defense level 7. I could see this semi-mix set working out
Now we need to see how you’ll react to the INSANESS that is the obvious boss fight
Bruh Valstrax is the best fight in the game and borderline one of the best in the series so far for me. And his weapons with his soul are so good with his amazing armor
i do note it has a lot of negative elemental resists.... which doesn't matter if you are playing dragonheart and set all those negative resists to a positive 50~

that laser beam of death, the new moves and mechanics, the mounting, everything....it's....it's so beautiful! Valstrax was already my favorite MH monster of all time, but now I've fallen in love with it so much more. They took what I loved about it and dialed up to 12! The gleaming silver and black, punctuated by the ever increasing red glow; the wing focused combat, ever more versatile and powerful; not to mention the new mechanics of swift zone changing and ambushing; it's all just so beautiful!
woah that resuscitate resentment looks like a fantastic piece for a bubbly dance hellfire build with agitator.
Note: For those of you who are aiming to create Cotton’s Hunting Horn build from a month ago, Valstrax’ helm is a perfect choice to replace the Kaiser Crown with if you don’t have a good talisman. Since it comes with a two slot, a one slot, and a level of weakness exploit, all you need is a weakness exploit 2 talisman or a weakness exploit 1 two slot talisman to max out critical boost, attack boost, and weakness exploit. You will need 3 critical boost decorations, but their fairly easy to craft.
I have been waiting for the possibility of Valstrax coming around again, it instantly became my favorite Elder when I first played Generations Ult. Glad to see it not just intact, but even a bit improved.
Interestingly, what I think is really fun is something that came up when I talked about this with one of my friends.... Valstrax's rig was originally the rig for one Gore/Shagaru Magala.... since we got Valstrax first this time around, there's now a legit chance at Gore/Shagaru Magala coming back. Kind of like how the lack of leviathan rigs basically killed off any hope of those monsters showing up in World/Iceborne, having this rig at least leaves the door open.
Not really. We had Val's skeleton back in base World for Nergi, Xeno, and even in IB with Shara and Safi, but both him and Gore were not in that game. Same case here in Rise where the leviathan skeleton is there but OG leviathan monsters such as Lagi and Agnaktor are not present so I doubt Gore is gonna make his return for Rise but one can hope I guess.
Best fight I ever had, this one was breathtaking fight
Fun Fact: This monster; Crimson Glow Valstax (or CGV so I don't have type the full name) is the ONLY monster in my entire time playing Monster Hunter (that's over 1000hrs in World/Iceborne and 200hrs in Rise) that has FORCED me to pick herbs and honey manually to replenish my supplies... I follow a strict code where I can only restock via the tent if I can say 'Yes' to one of two questions... 1) did I forget to restock? and 2) is this a multi-monster quest? and CGV wore me down to only 5 or so herbal medicines, that's how tough he was... I say 'was' because I can hunt him pretty easily now but that first hunt was intense!!

kinda confused with the Valstrax Soul...
You get dragonblight by lowering your health from the "Dragonheart" from the armor set, and increase your dragon element attack when afflicted with dragonblight from the "Valstrax Soul", but do the dragonblight's effects still apply to you? Cuz if yes, isn't the boost useless since dragonblight takes away all elemental damage?
I think it’s kind of like the magnamalo hellfire set. It won’t have negative effects on you, only positive.
The dragonblight inflicted by Dragonheart doesn't affect dragon element on your weapon (though it still cancels out any other element, so it wouldn't be a good idea to have it on a very element-focused weapon like Dual Blades that don't have dragon element).

This “ambush” attack sounds interesting. If they put that onto Khezu, it would actually be intimidating. You’re wandering through a cave and suddenly you see the pop up, but too late cause then you just got grabbed and slammed onto the ground. When monsters land the first hit without roaring.
There's so much potential.
Bazel could bomb you out of nowhere.
Maybe a Narga/Tobi jumping out of the trees as a sneak attack, since that's definitely how they hunt.
@@kadachinova5302 Technically Khezu as well, he really should be on ceilings more often. And then there's also basarios who's supposed to be a random rock in his default dormant state. Only problem is that this game we can see where every monster is so ambushes doesn't really work for any monster other than Valstrax who can blip to any zone in an instant..
Tho the ambush would be ruined since you can see them already at the mini map
They could make it so that when you first start the hunt, an ambushing monster stays hidden cause your Cohoot can’t see it. So you need to look around in areas where it usually hunts and try to find it without being seen first.

My favorite monster in all of Monster Hunter
For the weapons: what good's a boost to your dragon element when dragon blight seals your weapon's element?
Part of Dragonheart is that dragonblight no longer affects dragon element
Also you could use a raw weapon and mot worry about it

The whole armor also resonates quite well with Charge Blade, as with Guard Up it will chip at your health constantly, having red all the time but also, when it hits 80% BOOM!
50 elemental resist is basically blight immunity + damage resistance only bad thing about dragonheart is it inflicts you with dragon blivht meaning you can't use elemental weapons except for dragon element weapons
I find it quite wonderful that we actually have a full set as being meta, which hasn't happened since the Black X set in GU was for Great Sword. With Dragonheart being both a stellar defensive AND offensive ability, Resuscitate LV3, Weakness Exploit 3, and enough level 2 and 3 decoration slots to put in stuff like Critical Boost 3 or Master's Touch 3, AND it has the best overall raw defense of any set, there's almost no reason to use any other full set.
I can't wait for Cotton to react to this!
Honestly when I thought of valstrak variant I was thinking one that hit the ground to hard and cracked the scales around its wings and chest, creating a gap were air can permanently seep in creating infant fuel that it can’t turn off, and new gaps in the wings creating more rocket jets that make it too fast even for the valstrak, making its flights unstable, and the overdose on dragon would make it crazy
Valstrax and Chameleos are the best fights in the game so far
His amor and weapon is awesome for Dual Blade, the DB have 170 raw, 0% affinity, Good Sharpness, but the best is 35 Dragon Attack, with the Valstrax soul that goes to 42 which for a DB is SUPER STRONG, the boost is 5% more than critical element gives you, the elemental damage is super hight and if we use the two lv3 slots to put handicraft his sharpness becomes excellent, the only problem would be have 80% or less HP, but believe me it happens all the time lmao, I don't use evade extender, window, constitution and marathon runner which makes me quite vulnerable if I am not taking it serious, most of the DB players get hit when the monsters jump (that moment when his leg hits you while he is jumping), its a small damage but it will activate the Dragonheart easily, each amor piece have 80 def making the full set 400 def at each piece lv1, having 50 in all resistances makes this amor a tank with a bazooka, you can take a hit like a truck and hit like one too, even if its not the best build it sounds so fun to use
Not sure what the LS meta will end up as, but with a QS3 2-2-0 talisman I was able to put together a really nice protective polish build with the upgraded chameleos sword and the Valstrax armor. Using Rajang boots (no orb yet) but this does seem to out perform Tigrex crit/teo build while also being super-defensive (100 armor per piece, the 30-point resist buff, free 1-point slots beyond grinder, etc.).
Valstrax Gloves are now something I want to fit on any set (minus Gunlance and UAED Counter Charge Blade of course).
Basically removes the need of a god charm to make actual competitive builds with 2 WeX + 1 2 slot or more. Now that charm can be something else in your build entirely.
Not to mention his weapons are VERY competitive. Making use of just the Kushala helm or Damacus Legs essentially doubles your white for only one armor slot... and we can now fit even more skills onto sets with this single pair of ridiculous gloves.
I wonder if anyone noticed that this Valstrax has a 3rd sonic boom in his dive bomb, so he hits the ground at mach 3.
That's not how it works, you don't get multiple sonic booms at Mach 2 or higher
Neat little thing he's beam pushes him backwards meaning it isn't a lazer technically its an ion beam which makes it way cooler

WE all know that one attack with Valstrax where he uses his rockets fingers to propel his arms forward into a spear/sword/stabby thing.
You can see his "fingers" overlapping.

Where do his wing arms attach to the rocket fingers to allow this???
How does this fingers overlap in such a way to allow this???
I know he is extremely elastic in the wings, being able to swing them 180 degrees to aim the forward, but just how???
How does one finger elongate that much when you can see from the length of the entire arm that it isn't possible?
Someone explain this black magic to me, cuz despite how much I love our ROCKET POWERED ELDER DRAGON I cannot get past this detail.
I'd been hoping Valstrax would return for Rise because I LOVED him in GU. What they did blew my expectations out of the water! If I remember correctly, only one monster has the same skeleton used by the devs and that's my OTHER favorite Elder Dragon/??? Monster! Take a wild guess who I'm talking about-

Ive had so much fun fighting him with glaive the fact that we can both flying and avoid each other is too cool for words
Valstrak armor also have 5 lv 2 slot in total which we can use for crit boost 3,with narga GS and weaknessexpo3 you'll get 95% affinity so bassically 100% affinty if you slot in 1 crit eye in there
This version of Valstrax is my new favorite Rise fight but the one complaint I have is that when he gets enraged it kind of looks like spray paint instead of a natural pulsing glow but still 10/10 fight.
I disagree, I think that it looks great on him with the almost. Other worldly power of the dragon element and the crackling around it and the dragon in it's veins looks really cool.

Valstrax's wyvern ride further solidifies my opinion that we need a game where you play as monsters from Monster Hunter
even one level of dragonheart is really cool. It gives you 30 elemental resistences when you are under 50%. So when you get out of the fight to heal a quick elemental thunder, fireball or dragonpowered strike is less likely to kill you even when low life. plus. It SETS your resistance to 30. you dont just get 30. when wearing a set, which has high negative affinity this saves your ass. To have this skill coming with the gloves makes them even better.

I legit just fought Val, what a sick fight, ive never had that much fun from a single hunt than I did in awhile. Tough fight= Great armor is what I love to see come out of high rank, cant wait for more hunts to be released. (Cant wait to see what sets get built, cuz Val's arm piece is gonna be a staple for sure)

This is my 1st time fighting valstrax and omg this monster is amazing! I never got to play genU so hearing the community gush about this monster I never understood why. Now I see why ppl like him so much. So gooood!
