almost certainly 1 of 2 things,. Bad ground, google up ground replace wire bmw rear light unit, there is a retrofit kit, 2, open it up and check the connector for damage, or replace the whole light assembly, let us now how it goes

@@AdrianJayeOnline All I did was hit it all around the housing, not too hard , and it hasn’t given me any problems since 😅

HI there, yes that is also a possibility for both the LED and ordinary lights, its highly likely that a connection is loose or corroded, I would remove the lamp unit and have a look, let me know how you get on

I have the same problem on my m240i LCI, the rear right indicator stop sometimes working and when I hit the light with my hand a bit it starts working.. So the only way to fix it is to buy a new light?

Hi, "possibly" the fact it works when you hit it, means there is a loose connection, or wire could just need refitting etc, I would take the unit out and check the wiring, take it out and tap it gentle with a screwdriver and or wiggle the cable (there is just one) you may get away with that, you dont say the year, if it's not LED you may get lucky, thanks for watching

HI Carlos, you don't give any indication of the age of your vehicle or model, the older pre-lci's there is a kit which I think BMW sell, it consists of a wiring loom and an earth, USUALLY the connector is damaged by heat fraom too much current or bad manufacture, the pin breaks because the plastic melts. if it's the newer one (LED) the whole unit needs to be replaced. on mine the cable was fine, it was a faulty unit., you need to take it apart and check the pins in the connector. if the pins are ok, and your one has a earth cable, then you need a new unit.

@@AdrianJayeOnline My bad. I have the LCI tail lights (LED). First the right one started with the malfunction and I had it replaced by warranty and now the left one is having the exact same issue. The problem is that BMW refuses to replace it since the car is out of warranty so I want to fix it myself... very dissapointed with BMW customer service.

@@carlosdiez9857 Hi Carlos, ok understood, sad fact is car is out of warranty, they have no obligation to fix/replace anything for free. A lot of people only have the one light, truly it should have been a recall. depending on the dealer you can ask for a goodwill gesture, but unless your always in there, and know them don't expect much. with the LED lights it's going to be the light unit, you could try aftermarket. or pay for a new item, you can change yourself, no coding,, 20 minute job. or.... live with it. check the pin connections in case. either way your left with the bill.

@@AdrianJayeOnline thanks for replying! I will try a unplug-plug checking the connectors and if that doesnt work (most probably) will buy a new unit. Thanks!
