Preach it, Sam! We need to ban that phrase: elevated horror. Anyway, very nice teaser review! I can't wait to see the film; unfortunately, because of my schedule I'll probably have to wait for streaming. I hope Eggers supervises the transfer to home media to get that atmospheric look right for television. Apparently, Eggers has promised an extended cut of the film for blu-ray!

We were reading about that earlier today! We only know for certain one scene that will be included, he hasn't discussed what else was cut from the theatrical cut, but we would happily watch a 3-hour version of this film.

@@ycft Watched the film yesterday and was blown away by it! Lily-Rose Depp gives a fantastic Oscar worthy performance. The Gothic look of the film was like an oppressive fever dream you wanted to wake up from. The sound design/music is the most original aspect of the film that adds layers to this Murnau adaptation. Count Orlok's booming voice from beyond the grave both hypnotizes and repulses. I don't believe we needed more visual homages to the original because Herzog did quite a lot of that in his adaptation and clearly Eggers storyline/characters are quite different from Murnau's film. In a lot of ways he improves on the original especially with his operatic ending which I felt was even more tragic and heartbreaking than Murnau's. By the way, have you heard the rumours about Eggers doing a remake of the David Bowie fantasy Labyrinth (1986)?!

Loved this film. I've never seen the originals so went in with no idea of how it should play out so I'm excited to back and watch the original and previous remakes. Also never seen a Robert Eggers film before so will have to check out his back catalogue

We think you would really like The Lighthouse, it's a wild ride! The original Nosferatu is very easy to get a hold off, there are countless uploads of it here on YT, and we think you'll recognize a lot of the famous scenes. Across all of the adaptations, the core elements of the story don't really change.
