Great Video Matt, I had a musky steal my 13 in. walleye off my stringer couple days ago. Thought I hit a rock in the kayak. There went my dinner. That’s ok I caught my first Musky 10 minutes later. Stay safe.
What I don’t understand is when there is a whole pond with no one there, you’re in a spot, and some guy had to fish in the same exact spot as you. Not just that, but he has to put out four rods for catfish and carp. Then pretends to not speak English when you call him out for being a complete jacka55.
It does not surprise me you are using a Frozen (as in Disney franchise) bandaid! I bet you are an awesome dad, Mr Matt. You have the patience of Job. Sing it with me everyone! “Do you wanna catch a musky? Do you wanna slam some pike?”
I always reserve my Frozen band-aids for ice fishing, I would suggest little mermaid or Luca Band-Aids for open water fishing.😂🐟 Thanks for another great video
Matt, i recently found your videos and started fishing myself. Can you give us a budget list of materials please? Just like basic beginner rod, reel, and bait, or maybe a nice starter package?
Thanks for not editing out the net issue. That just goes to show that you can be a mere mortal fisherman like the rest of us. That’s the kind of goofy crap that happens to me all the time!!
Hey, Matt. You introduced me to the 8" Savage Gear Four Play a couple of years ago in one of the pike-and-musky videos you have made on the river. I'm truly grateful that you did. In my experience, as in yours, this is a remarkable swimbait for any angler willing to use his/her rod tip to twitch it a bit on the retrieve. I use the Four Play exclusively in salt water (for striped bass) and exclusively in the very realistic Sexy Baitfish color. I don't think I've ever seen a swimbait look more alive, and the stripers seem to agree. Moreover, at about $18 (when you can find it), the Four Play is a bargain. I can't for the life of me understand the negative reviewers on several different sites, anglers who complain about this bait's losing its tail and even breaking. I haven't had any such problems, and I note here that after catching three different big muskies in turbulent, fast-moving water at the spillway, your Four Play was just fine. Best, Chris (in Maine)
They’re one of my best producing lures for pike and muskie! Tackle warehouse had those golden ambulance color ones on sale for $6 not long ago and I grabbed several of them! We get a lot of green algae colored water around here so that bright color should work well often.
Matt, you should really try one of the Savage Gear swimbait rods. Works really well with those glide baits and big bass cranks. The extra length is useful for figure eights too. And they're not that expensive, especially for the quality.
Great video again!!! All the dams are great fishing spots, talking of dams, have you tried lipless crankbaits at such spots. Those lures can do wonders on turbulent water, probably due to hard vibrating, and optionally rattling...and can withstand heavy current....with right rod and reel combo, you could even try to present it near the other bank.
I've been using the Cabela's XPS brand 4-play lures and they seem to work just as well. Pikes on my lakes are loving them. No muskie in the certain lakes I'm at.
Can I ask everyone for some fishing advice? I watch a lot of these amazing videos from ND. I went fishing last week for a few days on vacation. Tried every lure in my tacklebox all excited (I grew up using live bait worm-hook-bobber) thinking I would catch a fat bass or pike. I got NUTHIN! Either nothing was big enough to bite my lure near the dock, or I'm (likely) doing something wrong. Why does worm and bobber work better for me in general? I caught like 20 fish over the 3 days (all small-ish ones under a pound) but it was all on the bobber. Even going out in the boat with my uncle we got 1 bass on our lures combined in 6 hours. LOL Thanks for any tips! Big fan of the channel ;D It lets me go fishing without fishing when I can't haha
It's august. It's hot. Water is hot. Fish can get sluggish. The worm on a bobber they don't have to chase. You might have had good luck with smaller plastics worked slowly on or near the bottom. I've also had good luck with suspending minnow baits when they are like that. Twitch it and let it sit a second. Give them time to commit.
@@mattfleming86 Yeah I noticed I got a lot more bites even on the worm and hook when I gave it a little yoink every now and then to show the worm is alive and alert any sleepy fish nearby LOL. Possible that I need a smaller plastic. The ones I have a fairly large but I was kind of just trying whatever I had in my box!
@@andrewillomitzer3711 Get a pack of 4" Yamamato Senkos. You'll also need a pack of the "g" shaped worm hooks. No weight is used. They are heavy and sink with a nice slow flutter. They seem to have a magic ability to get both active and less active fish. Once it hits the bottom use your rod and tweak it back your way a foot or two, then let ot flutter down and sit there a second. Sometimes they want it on the bottom, sometimes on the fall, and sometimes they smash it as soon as it hits the water. Love fishing those things!
@@mattfleming86 Thanks a bunch I'll check those out for next trip. Might be a basic question, but how do you tell when it reaches the bottom? I usually just let out line until it stops spinning then reel up the slack a tiny bit.
Great job as always Matt and I love the color of that swimbait... It's golden... And I agree with the one viewer who would love to see a bloopers video😂😂😂!!!
What a hotspot! I just got back from a week of fishing at my cousins cottage in Quebec and we are on a fairly small but very deep lake. If you have any suggestions for where they might pile up, they would be greatly appreciated. We have caught a couple musky on deeper ledges (30-60 feet) and continue to fish deep water for them because all the shallow weed edges are ridled with pike. As always, great content and keep it up.
Hey, Matt. Really dig your channel... always checking back to see what you're up to. I think some of your regular viewers would love a Blooper Reel.. snags, drifting into brush, etc. Not that its a competition, but something for all of us out here tackling rivers and lakes in our kayaks who feel inept when stood up against your (no doubt edited) escapades. Tight lines, my friend!
i was out on pike last night. had 2 small and then befor leaving a 45.5 inch slamed into my rapala haku. been a follower of this chanel since the time you had that pike on suicide duck from your kayak.
Excellent video with the Savage Gear swimbait and its yellow colour. Encouraged by what I watch from Matt I purchase any lure he uses and is available over here in Europe. That spillway is wonderful and I identified it via Google Maps. I love all the videos Matt records at that fishing venue. Those big beautiful muskies are quite a reward. Awesome…
Random observation but it's a good one I think. When you're carrying more than one rod hold it at the very bottom of the blank closest to the grip and carry it backwards. So much easier and way less snags if you're in the woods
Fun to watch but still enjoy your kayak trips for smallies more. Still these are amazing fish. It is a good thing that pound for pound they are not as scrappy as the smallies you catch.
I've only landed one musky and had a... handful... on. Their fight just isn't that great. BUT they are gorgeous and amazing predators. It's more about the chase.
Ohhh, man! That muskie was nice! I'm big into fly fishing, but between you and another (local) fishing TY channel I've tried catfishing for the first time this week. I got two on the first 1.5h outting. Keep up the good work!
Your every approach is fantastic. Lure, how to use it, speed, voice, etc. I learn from every video. Thank you 🙏 I’m heading up north from Az the summer/fall 24 or 25. Can you tell me where this flowage is, and is fall ir spring better? I’ve caught 2 muskies in my life, one 11 and one 12 inches long😂😅🤣. I wanna catch a real one 😢!
That must have been an absolute blast catching those beasts. I recently purchased a savage gear 3 d shiner and just had my new St. Crois BassX Xheavy delivered. It is set up and ready t o go next weekend.
Yeah this is some older footage from about a month ago. I was hesitant to upload it because the fish didn’t jolt out of there upon release like they normally do but it was warm out, and I haven’t had much luck since then. They actually relocated all the muskie and pike from below the spillway there to the lake up above a week or two after I filmed this when they shut the dam off for a few days. I’m sure a few have made their way back up there but the fishing won’t be quite the same for a while, probably until next springs flood at least then I could see some moving up from downstream.
@@ndyakangler Im a fellow North Dakotan and I was south of garrison dam a few weekends ago and the fishing was slow and the fish I did find were less aggressive by far but you can’t beat North Dakota pike and musky when it’s hot!!

Your videos are so relaxing and fun to watch, and Im even learning some new things from your videos as I’m sorta new to fishing
Great video mate that muskie was nice there smashing that lure
Those Musky are me dream fish to catch and here you catching them one after another!
Another great video, Matt, and as always, I enjoyed every moment! Take care and be safe. Anxiously awaiting your next video!
This is amazing man, I’ve fished all year here in Minnesota and haven’t got one in yet
Random observation but it's a good one I think. When you're carrying more than one rod hold it at the very bottom of the blank closest to the grip and carry it backwards. So much easier and way less snags if you're in the woods
I love this channel. No need to say anything more than that.
Good thing you didn’t give up. That musky was nice!
Pretty epic musky fishing from shore! Nice work
Awesome video, Matt! 👏🏾
Guessing ya got that Swimbait in that color at bass pro shop ! Excellent color !
I got them at Tackle Warehouse, about a year ago they had that color on sale for like $6.
Oh poor you had to resort to spillway fishing for musky. Action is action, keep up the great vids sub for life!
Ohhh, man! That muskie was nice! I'm big into fly fishing, but between you and another (local) fishing TY channel I've tried catfishing for the first time this week. I got two on the first 1.5h outting. Keep up the good work!
"Ewwww it's a bullhead" lmao I was dying
Your every approach is fantastic. Lure, how to use it, speed, voice, etc. I learn from every video. Thank you 🙏
I’m heading up north from Az the summer/fall 24 or 25. Can you tell me where this flowage is, and is fall ir spring better? I’ve caught 2 muskies in my life, one 11 and one 12 inches long😂😅🤣. I wanna catch a real one 😢!
Hey! Glad the spot worked out again!
That must have been an absolute blast catching those beasts. I recently purchased a savage gear 3 d shiner and just had my new St. Crois BassX Xheavy delivered. It is set up and ready t o go next weekend.
Great movie and beautifull fish! In my country (Poland) it's not permitted to fishing near spillways, dams and etc.. Now i understand why :)
Awsome video!! I’ve been asking for this and you delivered!
