This is my song. 😊 I was 16 when I met my husband, he was 26. Love at first hello for me. He took longer. 😂 We had 41 years together, before I lost him 6 years ago. Benny had a phenomenal voice. ❤
Your faces at 6:26... I have always liked this song. Maybe not for the lyrics.🫣 But the emotion he puts into the song!!!! Then the piano. I never noticed as much until now. But now, when I think of this song or hear it , I am going to remember you guys. It is always great to see you laugh. We know you are not making fun, but enjoying listening to him! This is top tier video! ❤🎉
The music sounds great and always has. Lyrically, it is one of the creepiest songs in the history of pop music. The yelling at the end seems like the sound we'd be hearing when he is showing his 16-year-old gf what "real love" is. I could see this being played as the soundtrack music to the film about Matt Gates that HBO will eventually be putting out.
As someone who was 13 when this came out, I always viewed it as the guy was 18 or 19 and loved a 16 year old. I love everything about this song. The vocal performance, the backups, the piano riff, the bass meanderings behind everything and the guitar clicks used percussively. Your reaction was phenomenal! One of my favorites on the page. This song was so good it was a one hit wonder...,TWICE!
Yeah, I was 13 when it came out too. At that age, I was dying to meet/date a girl who was 16! Ah, perspective is everything. This channel is one of the few reaction channels where the reactors are the best part of the experience. Great job, Ryan and Nick. Very entertaining.
@@pacard33 When I was 20 I fell for one of the nighttime cashiers at work. Uh, she was 17. My friends were relentless using this song on me.., for the entire 5 and a half years we dated! She's a successful Physical Therapist. Yes, these guys do an excellent job with these reaction videos.
Me too, the vocals still give me goosebumps every time since I first heard it in 1980. I was 14 at the time, so I thought it was about an older woman, LOL.
PAUL DAVIS - " Cool Night " 1981 Upbeat Soft Rock Classics 🎸🎹 this song is absolutely amazing and FIRE! Also I highly recommend THE LITTLE RIVER BAND - " Night Owls " from the early 1980's this one is Amazing too. With Great Vocals and Music.
I’ve loved this song since I was a teen girl! He was famous in his hometown of Syracuse, New York and loved by many! He was so talented, a great voice and he was very handsome! ❤
As a girl, I loved this song and the sentiment. Now looking back as a 53 year old woman with life experience, I’m not so sure how I feel about it. At 16, I had a lot of older men (and I do mean adult men) trying to pick me up make these types of promises. But this is a hindsight thing, so I still listen to the song.
No apologies necessary seeingy'all tear up is beautiful only music with real soul can make you feel 2 or more things at once, ever notice a person's laugh sounds close to their cry?!!! No such thing as Coincidence 😊
In the last part of the song, when his vocals go crazy, that wasn't meant to end up in the record. Benny actually sang that to provide an example of what he and the producer wanted one of the musicians to do (the saxophone player, I think). It was like "can you play something like this?" and then he vocalized. But at some point, the producer decided it was so amazing that he had to put it into the record -- forget the saxophone. I saw Benny share that story when he was interviewed by The Professor of Rock on UA-cam. (It's a good interview, in which he also shares the backstory about how he came to write the song.)
That interview was the best! Explained the meaning behind the lyrics as well as his "vocals" at the end. You're right, it was suppose to be a sax solo but so so glad they went with Benny's powerful vocals 🎵🎶
Your musical journey continues as you discover what we all experienced so many years ago. When boomers suggest these old obscure songs, listen to them ….they won’t steer you wrong!!!
Yikes. I was 20 and 'seeing' a 16 year old a couple of houses down who I thought was the prize of the neighborhood. I still think about her every blue moon and wonder how's she's doing - it didn't last long at all. Awesome that yours did!
Years ago when I heard this song, I thought Steve Perry sang this. When I found out it was Benny Mardone, I was surprised! He sounds so much like Steve Perry in this and Steve Perry is my favorite Male singer ever! Benny also had a great voice!
Benny sang this song from the view of young love, ... However, his mature voice, and amazing it was, sparked controversy. Unfair to Benny, this song made him, and ended him... This once in a lifetime voice was incredible, and sadly societal judgment robbed us of his gift. R.I.P. Benny, there'll never be another. 🙏🏻
This songs still gives me goosebumps. I still have the 45. I could always picture Benny Mardones shredding a Jim Steinman song ( Ala Total Exclipse of the heart).
JOURNEY - "" The Girl Can't Help It "" AUDIO VERSION // And also "" Eyes Of A Woman "" these are two Amazing songs with Steve Perry on Vocals + the Intros to these ✌️ jams is absolutely Awesome 👌🔥🔥🎸
@ Wow. I bet your friends and girls in your class were so envious. They were probably living vicariously through you. Guys your age were cool but an older man with experience took your relationship to another level. 👌🏾
I meant a few years older. I was 16 and had a 21 year-old boyfriend. All the older guys wanted sex…that wasn’t happening with me! I waited until age 19. It was very common and im sure plenty of guys took advantage of younger girls.
I always liked this song and I’m 56! 😛 Benny gives it all at the end and seriously, it has been on the radio over 1,000 times that the belting at the end doesn’t even register anymore - it’s just part of the song and I don’t even think about it. Oh, and when I was 16 hearing this, it didn’t disturb me or creep me out, but it was probably because I didn’t know how old he was at the time. 😅
😅😅😅😅 I'm rolling with you! A tough song to love but what a song. That song was pulled after it came out because of the content. It was re-released in the 90s and had a resurgence of sorts. The video is creepy AF.
When I hear music that's phenomenally good, I get a burst of emotion that I can't handle - in a good way I guess. Maybe it's that way with you guys (?) I want to laugh and cry at the same time, so what happens is I get a somewhat painful lump in my throat. Any way, - great video!
Guys... Great song! I was 15 when this song came out. Always loved it and still do. Thanks to your subscribers for the backstory to the creation of this song. I didn't know what inspired the song until now. Thank you again to your subscribers and to you for picking the song for tonight. Total 🔥! See you next time!
I have always loved this song! It always made me want to have the passion in a relationship that equaled the emotion conveyed in this song…never happened;)
To truly appreciate his talent, and this song, forget the first line and watch him perform it live back in the day. The emotion he puts out won't make you laugh. It will give you the chills. If you know music and vocals you will recognize his incredible range and powerful vocals are nothing to laugh at. I can only hope your only reason for laughing was you were not ready for something so awesome. That, and the LP and radio versions were not that great. They didn't show his true range. For some reason they used fade out too much. Currently this link is to the best live version on YT. In fact I think it's even better than the LP version. You should have used this for your reaction because instead of laughing you would have been in awe: ua-cam.com/video/JWo8Yer2y18/v-deo.htmlsi=bokq9_IcQKkBkeVk
I saw a video of him singing this later in life and sick (i believe Parkinson's, correct me if that's wrong) and he could still the crap out of this 🎵🎶💚
I was in college when this song first was a hit. My friends and I did laugh when we first heard it. Benny takes it to the Nth degree! It's a great song overall! Fantastic reaction guys!
Okay, I remember being a teen and completely understanding this is a love ballad. If you watch his video it is clear from the beginning that he wants her as his girlfriend. He takes her away on a magic carpet and the horizontal kiss they shared was not platonic in any way. Maybe it was inspired by a platonic real life situation, but this song is about lust and love. But back decades ago 30 something men married young, even teen girls. This was not unusual. She’s young enough to bear children and live a long life. My grandmother’s mother died after childbirth. Younger healthy mothers could live to raise their children.
He could really hit those notes too. Guy was Awesome live .. One of the best for sure Luis Miguel, Meatloaf, Freddy Curci, A7X Matt Shadows/Metal. Just a few great vocalists of our time
Since you guys love Sara Smile so much because Daryl Halls pipes check out his ultimate song with his insane vocals "Do What You Want, Be What You Are"
Benny passed away but the real person who knows the story and that is the girl herself. Eventually she married and moved to Puerto Rico but stayed close friends with Benny for the rest of his life. Benny probably had very little say so in the making of the video…that was always a problem in that era….videos not really fitting the story in the song! Well done guys!
I read somewhere that a friend was visiting him when the neighbor girl came to get the dog. When she left the friend commented on her and Benny said, "she 16 years old, leave her alone"...and a song was born.

He could never release this song today. But I was 12 in 1980. Always loved his voice.
Love him and this song! You guys cracked me up!
The music sounds great and always has. Lyrically, it is one of the creepiest songs in the history of pop music. The yelling at the end seems like the sound we'd be hearing when he is showing his 16-year-old gf what "real love" is.

This reaction is pure gold. Love it when you guys hit a great song I totally forgot about. Turns out this dude is really good! Thanks
Can't wait to see the look on their face when he sings the first line of the song.
Can't wait until they see the video.🥺
Are you guys clueless? Dude is grooming
Always loved this song ever since hearing it back when it had it's first go around... Fantastic vocal performance.
Benny has got a set of pipes!!! One of my favorite one hit wonders.
“Into The Night”, the song that hit the Top 20 twice. The first time in 1980; the 2nd time in 1989. 😎
Man, he really loved that girl.
😵💫🤣 he was Wailing.... AND THEN WENT OFF THE RAILS LMAOFFFF😂😅😁
😂

I was a Freshman in college in 1980 and worked at Pizza Hut. This song was constantly played on the juke box!

One of the best songs ever written, love you Benny.
This is a gorgeous song but I can't help looking over my shoulder when I listen to it. 😂

Love this song, as a 14 year-old girl in 1980….so romantic 🩷 it was common to date older guys.
Quite common. When I was a sophomore in high school, a girl in my history class was dating a 35 yr old guy. She had his baby during junior year.
Yes. I was barely 16 and my first love was much older.

This tune is on my Yacht Rock playlist. I don't recall hearing it when I was younger though. Guy went berserk with the vocals in the 2nd half.
this still has the same effect on me and I've listened to it hundreds of times, fantastic song
I always loved this song - despite being a skosh creepy now- wasn’t deemed creepy in the 80’s 👀
Ryan at the end had me dying 😂😂😂
