Been waiting for this one… Edit: Sure you have been told by this point but the Alabama Spots are nonnative and pose a threat to the Shoal Bass due to hybridization. Ethically harvesting them is the best way to remove them from the river. If you’re not going to eat them, leaving them for a raccoon seems ethical to me in comparison to the damage they do to the Shoal Bass population.
I have fished the Flint with friends now each spring for about6 years (and occasionally the fall, too). It’s one of the finest, if not THE finest fisheries for shoal bass that there is! Great video!!
Great video and scouting trip with A Rudd. After watching a few of these definitely adding a shoal bass trip on a river like the Flint to my bucket list. Love hard fighting river bass. Blessings brothers
I live in South Georgia and our best fishing here is the Flint river system, plenty of shoalies and largemouth. We generally fish with small spinnerbaits. A hard fighter, the shoalie record is around 7.5lbs (iirc). Lots of sunfish and shoalie have been caught out of my 12’ John boat……great times. Thanks for uploading.
Born and raised in Upson Co on the Flint!! Still try to get down 2 or 3 times a year to get on the goods!! Glad you enjoyed it and hopefully you got to meet the king of the Shoalies, Allen Ragsdale!
Those Shoal Bass look beautiful and super fun to catch!!! Awesome video buddy and looking forward to meeting up with you this year once your schedule opens up lord willing 🙏 🙌
That bonafide must be an incredible boat to be able to maintain position in and fight that kind of current so easily. Glad to see you are catching them across the country! God bless
@@CreekFishingAdventures I had a 15.50 and a 16 I could not get rid of. I would have been happy with a couple of those 17s you had to go along with my 18s and 19. Overall it was a really good event. I would have liked to have been in check range but I'm happy with the top 20 as a consolation prize. Congratulations on the micro bag. I can't imagine trying to hold those fish down LOL. I hope you have some of that on video.
The first river you were on - you were right that the alabama bass weren't supposed to be there, but funny enough, the shoal bass are also not supposed to be there. The DNR most likely stocked the shoalies in the 70s and they have thrived. It knocked out the "redeye" bass (altamaha bass). Thats all well and good but unfortunately alabama bass showed up.
Great video guys some really nice fish enjoyed watching it I came close to catch my frist bass Saturday I was fishing a 4 inch swimbait and had a 5 inch bass following it in still hopefully that I will get it down
John you seem like a guy that would benefit from a truck camper with all the road trips you take. No more hotels, and you can camp right next to the water without roughing it.
Man, you were about an hour from my house. Me and my son used to go fishing at a pay to fish place in Thomaston (until the owner passed a few years back)
Hey John, you passed very close to the headwaters of the Flint River when you crossed from Foulton County into Clayton County just south of Atlanta. The Flint originates at the Atlanta international airport. My Hometown is located in Clayton County and you passed through a small portion on your travels.
Funny how I thought that that looked like topwater heaven and then all of a sudden Alex threw a topwater and caught that 19 and a half😊thought you would have thrown that Choppo for a good little while, and then next thing you know you're tying that spinnerbait back on😂 great show as always John can't wait to see what the next few days brings there👍
We recently did a video where we got kicked out for wading and they actually measured our spotted bass. They definitely hurt the shoal bass population and there isn’t supposed to be a regulation on keeping them except for Lake Lanier 🤷🏻♂️ We’ve got a video on our channel about the whole experience! Great catches John!
Hey John, 9 months ago you made a video labeled River wars my favorite tournament, and there was an animal screaming in the background and you wanted to know what it was, and it was the sound of a pair of raccoons fighting, Lots of people tried to guess what that was and nobody got it right.
Cool video...especially since you filmed it down the road. Greetings from Thomaston. 😊 That's my Flint, alright. As far as fisheries go,she's one of the best. Fish on and God bless the Shoal Bass.
Out of the hospital an back at it good to see the ole creek bandit out an at it again , you ever do any flathead fishing way up in some of these creeks ?
New subscriber here really enjoying the great fishing adventures! I’m in NC now but grew up in Chattanooga and just wondered what part of TN you are from? Anyways keep up the good work and good luck!
He threw him in the bushes I assume because he accidentally gave it brain damage with the Hookset must've been through the eye or something but I still don't know why it didn't go back in the water a turtle or catfish would've ate it most likely
The Florida Georgia state line is about a half hour from here in N.Florida. I wonder how far I would have to travel to catch a Shoal Bass? The out of state fishing license was 50 bucks for a year last I checked....FishOn....Jim
@@CreekFishingAdventures I had looked into it, and Chipola River is the only place listed by FWC. They were stocked there, and it says they are the only genetically pure shoal bass in the state of Florida (they were stocked there). I couldn't find out about genetically unpure lol or any other places in Florida that have Shoal Bass, and Georgia is a good bit closer to me then Chipola River. I really appreciate you answering my comment and thanks again for posting the videos.
There aren't supposed to be spots but they have been there for at least a decade now. I'm surprised they didn't have a spotted bass fish fry at Shoaliepalooza. It is common for spots to be kept or killed in the Flint. Wish I had made it down for this event but the timing just didn't work out.
1st thing, no matter what you disagree with, you should remove the hate from your heart buddy. 2nd thing , if its keep or kill because the species is invasion to the water ways then go be mad at DNR not the person following the rule of the waterways. Also another animal will benefit from it as food

A timely reminder on your merchandise. I've been needing a couple hats. Orders in. Thanks for all you do!

I fish the upper where the lanier dam. Where u drop your kayak in at, looking for new location to drop.
We were there last week and were catching a ton of Spots too. Last year I caught 2 20" Shoalies in that stretch.
nice
You always got the prettiest spots bro 🔥
pretty places.........yeah I'm envious of u, I wish I was as active to explorer as you when I had the opportunity
Nice video John, got my first shoal bass in that stretch 12 years ago or so.
shoal bass fishing is addictive for sure

thats wild
They look like a mix of large and smallmouth.
what hook are you using with the fluke in this video?
Have you ever fished Cambel cove, and if so was it any good
that place looks wild
Caught several Shoal bass when I live in Columbus.
Where did you put in at? I always put in below Sprewell bluff
What kind of hook you using on that Fluke minnow?

no i havent come across any
Love those Cahaba lillies this time of year. What is your line setup on that baitcaster?
i think it had 50 lb, it was my frog rod and just happend to use it
4:18 The spider on your leg drove me crazy that you didn't notice it or feel it crawling. lol
I‘m new to this, but at least now I know you should occasionally rinse your rod and reel in fast moving water.
it only makes sense haha
Id like to see you do one month just 3 baits a singer bubble gum swirl .black hellamite .and a spin bait
Nice video! What lb test you running for a river like that?
my normal bass fishing setup mostly, it wouldn't hurt to upsize because of all the rocks and current
That spider crawling up you leg at 4:17. I hate spiders on me.
tick?
no telling, there were bugs all over
Coming here to say, at that time I was yelling at the video…flick that spider off your leg before it crawls up too far 😅

Beautiful scenery. Was the water cold? 😀
not bad, just cool
How do you like the RVR compared to the Shoalie?
to me being a bigger guy its a bit more comfortable and stable
John, who makes the gray and white camo fishing shirt you’re wearing?
Chota
Nice very nice, be safe
So, is a shoalbasss considered a smallmouth bass? Thanks for sharing this it was awesome thanks
No it’s different, another one of the black bass species
“Ittsy bitty spider climbed up the water sprout”
What kind of wading shoes are you using? I’ve got sandals but they tear up my feet after a day of fishing. Thanks and love your videos ❤

these are good and the bottoms hold up prety well, not great for gravel because they are low
