It always feels good putting new parts on an old rig. The upgraded tail lights are going to be way better for you. I don't think I'd get rid of the old lenses though because its always good to have spares

Those old ford trucks had alot of stout metal on them. I repaired some dents on my dads 65 f-100 and BOY....the metal was super tough. I like those trucks very much. Trucks aren't made like that anymore.
