Ahh. But, the thing I can't seem to get anyone to tell me/demonstrate is what it's like running into an amp that's NOT totally clean. I'm always running low wattage amps on the edge of clipping.

This pedal probably isn't the right one for you then, to be honest. It takes over and becomes the sound. If you're still playing that vox in your videos, get a Bearfoot Emerald Green Silver or stick with your archer.

I didn't actually like the EDGM (either version) into my Vox styled amp (Magic Brit Mk2) ...kinda too much of a good thing frequency wise. I think you're right though. re the Revival Drive. I find the more harmonically rich pedals fare less well into amps that are offering some compression/saturation than they do into higher headroom platforms. My all time fave is my Timmy & yeah there has generally been a Klon or a Klone on the board too.

thinking a Kingsley CONSTABLE, Vemuram Shanks 4k, Van Weelden ROYAL OVERDRIVE, Jesse Davies/king tone vintage fuzz etc...
these items sound very warm and alive and lack the piercing papery tone present in the revival drive

I've a Cali76 compared to my keeley the improvement in quality was night and day, the sound & control is just on a different level. Looking at the revival drive it's more a pre-amp in a box rather than a straight overdrive emulating a whole range of classic amp front ends.

Sounds bloody fantastic, Chris. So there's no denying it's ability particularly in a pro set up.
I expect the exceptional sound here is almost entirely down to the additional presence afforded by the jam jar stand. In fact I strongly suspect that similar results could be obtained by using a blues driver mounted on a sardine tin to enhance the mid push and bring the sound closer to an old 1970's Selmer transistor combo (in a cupboard, behind an ironing board).

Best demo of this to date...TPS and Co, couldn’t seem to get a decent sound out of it, and your in-depth description of each function is exceptional. First demo which has made me make an informed opinion on this. I would say it was for the player who has just a couple of pedals at any one time. Too much tweaking required for my OCD mind, it would drive me crazy...You still sound like Chris Buck, regardless of which gear your using though. I still maintain that with great players like yourself, tone is in the hands, whilst the rest of us constantly try to emulate it through those little boxes of magic down by our feet. 😏

A really well-done video, right to the point. Gives us all a good overview of the Revival. Have been following the Revival's debut like many others. The point about the plethora of knobs is well taken, although I can also see wanting to have them all in order to tweak away. As for cost, I'm sure that reflects the parts and R&D that went into it's design. It is what it is. Origin has a deservedly good reputation as a pedal builder/designer and Chris rightly mentions Origin's Cali76 compressor. There are overdrives that are designed specifically to work well with any amp. Personally, my favorite is the Blackstone Appliances Mosfet Overdrive (blackstoneappliances.com). A lot fewer knobs (!) and, IMHO, a better sounding pedal at the end of the day. For me, when everything is said and done, it's sound and sonics, not cost, or knobs is the deciding factor when shelling out money for any pedal. I'm sure the Revival will do well commercially. However, I'm not convinced by it's sonics.

Just bought the compact used a few days ago. I'm actually already having buyers remorse and I haven't even received it. I was looking for something clean that I could get drive, not really a drive that I could clean up. I was intending on getting an Ethos clean II, but a situation that necessitated having something before Labor Day made that an impossible option unless I wanted to spend absurd money.
I put a real low-ball offer in a half-hearted attempt never thinking id actually get it…that was a miscalculation. I probably could have rescinded it but I hate when people do that. I wish it had a couple partners the big one does, but another channel for a different rectifier seemed like too much.

It seems complicated and a tweaking nightmare but it really becomes quite simple after you learn there are just basic adjustments and some of the EQ front toggles only work on EQ2 setting, the rest is just simple tweak to what you are looking for in a very real amp sounding platform, the two sides are just duplicate so right off the controls are halfed! I dig mine, while I still like messing with other pedals this puppy is a core center of my sound and is never going anywhere. Is it worth the bucks, well to some who like cheap pedals obviously not, but if you want the best and can afford it you are not going to ever outdo this analog wonder!

Paul's GuitarStudio plus there’s some used, mint ones for those that got scared by a not that complicated pedal. If guitarists can handle kempers and the Helix than why not this? It’s really not that difficult. Computers, audio interfaces, daws, plug ins etc. are confusing yet nobody complains about that. Remember when we plugged a guitar into an amp and a guitar cabinet with a few pedals?

A lot of the tweaking is a way of getting it dialed to your amp, granted that will take you a while and a degree of work on depending on your experience with your own gear. If your not porting it between amps you shouldn't need to do any more to it than a normal overdrive

I'm very impressed with what I see and after buying an Origin Cali76 compact deluxe and being super impressed with it, I was very tempted to order a revival drive. But at this point in my life I opt for simple and easy to dial in gear. I've had complicated gear in the past and have the skills to get what I want and the fact I bought a compressor with lots of options seems to contradict this but I'm happy with transparent drives that don't change the character or color my amp to much rather than a pedal that can give me a myriad of sounds.

it also doesn't sound as good as a real marshall amp being used at lower volumes...bleh....ghosting knob was pretty cool. Other than that, just a cool looking but fizzy pedal that wants to be on it's own board all alone. trying to use it with a compressor is worthless

    • @Utubewrk123
      @Utubewrk123 5 років тому +1

It definitely isn’t fizzy. I haven’t found that to be anywhere near what I am getting from it. The thing I miss is I would prefer more gain and a little more sponginess. Even if I don’t use it with my amps it’s staying because of the way it enhances the kemper. Which I think is made out to be better then it is. Until I plugged this into it.

Overpriced and sounds the same as any high quality OD out there. WAY too many controls as well. Marketing and cork sniffery at its best. Sounds great, but again, MANY other OD's do it just as good for much less. You could get an all valve amp for the price of this thing.

kommi1974 wrong. Very very wrong. Watch Pete Thorn’s video and the ones done by Simon. This thing is light years beyond other OD pedals.

kommi1974 I thought the same thing. And then I saw a used mint one at a lower price. Sold a bunch of pedals. I was a pedal addict. This seems to have stopped that altogether. It isn’t like a regular pedal. Takes a short time to get your sound. I use it with a slightly crunchy amp to get a higher gain sound but it sounds like other amp as well. It makes regular pedals sound thin and weak. Also, stuck it in front of a kemper which I never liked and it enhances the tone and feel. It handles high gain and it does that to your amps too. FYI I could not afford this type of gear for years. I’ve been playing since I was a kid and worked my way up with playing and better gear. Not rich just saved and worked and did a lot of selling as I said and trading up.

kommi1974 it’s simple to use. If u can’t figure this out well. Tbh how are u figuring out ur amp and pedals. This is incredibly easy. Not sure why so many are scared off by the knobs.
