The tech in it may be more complicated to use now, but what hasn't changed about the M340i is that amazing B58 inline 6 cylinder. That engine just pulls for days, and it's such a perfect sound when you rev it out~

I bought my 22 M340i in March specifically for the buttons, hvac, and perfect blend of touch and buttons. I had a Mercedes and when they went full touch and saw hints that 2023 BMWs were going touch and big mouth grills; the decision was made. The pre-LCI G20s are the Goldilocks. Just right

I agree. Much prefer the 21-22 model years. By the way, the missing button is “adaptive”, not the exhaust. You get the adaptive button with the adjustable suspension. And I agree it’s worth it’s weight in gold… would not get one without it.
Also, don’t pause after saying “hey BMW” just ask whatever you want. You quickly realize that massively helps its understanding of what you said. And the voice activation is actually quite good compared to most cars.

2020 M340i xdrive owner here. I leased mine during the pandemic so i could only buy off the lot. For that reason I don’t have the mag dampers which i think was a rare option. I think the ride is great, the run flat tires are the stiffest part about it. With non run flats i think the ride would be perfect. I have many video of it on my channel. I was lucky to find one in Potimao Blue which i think is the best color for this car. I probably won’t get this press car until 2023. Great video

    • @billm47645

Subscriber to your channel as well. I have an early 2021, also in Portimao Blue. I also had to forego the adaptive dampers as none where available at the time in the color. However, I replaced the runflats with 245/40r19 Comp2 A/S’s to both get a little more meat on the sidewall for Long Island winters / potholes and get a little more tire (the 225’s to me are a little too narrow for the car). It smoothed out the ride. I do still think the rebound over taller bumps can be a little harsh / weird. I have noticed that on other BMWs though in the past. That’s the one criticism I have about the suspension that I hope the adaptive would fix.

Also this is BMW, they should have a screen concept, like Porsche did with the Taycan, which still reminds of the typical instrument cluster, even if it is a screen. BMW should keep it sporty like that.

I own two 2022 BMWs and think they are the best brand for daily drivers. That being said, I am really disappointed with the interior changes. Removing favorite buttons and hard button for climate control seems like a major fail. I actually like the exterior styling on this one better but the interior issues make me think this is not an upgrade over the previous years.

I'll be picking up an M340i around May next year, and I'm torn between this new LCI model, and the previous one... exterior-wise they're both very nice, I think I'd prefer the bigger screens on iDrive 8, with full screen maps etc, but at the loss of physical heat controls I think its more of a loss overall. Of course warranty would be better on the newer LCI model, but I can still pick up a 2022 pre-LCI one so it'll only be by a few months. Arrgghh why did they get rid of those buttons!

If I buy such a car next time I would consider the service and reliability of the dealership and car. The car is otherwise pretty good.

Great review gents. Just bought a new '23 M340i Xdrive this week.
I just had to have that B58 motor in a small sports sedan. LOVE inline 6 motors. My older brothers had them in a 70s era 280Z and a BMW Bavaria. I had a 300ZX Turbo which had a V6 and it was nothing like that earlier Z. Now they are better than ever. So strong and fun with amazing efficiency.
OK, the screen. I initially wanted to hate it and almost bought a 540 to avoid it. The same iDrive 8 screen is quite nicely integrated in the larger SUVs, but is hard to look at in the 3 series. Just stuck up there on the dash. It looks like an afterthought. Until you use it.
This car replaced a '17 Accord Hybrid, which has three screens (including speedo) in three different places at three different depths. Looking at the iDrive 8 screen is a joy in comparison. Easy on the eyes, configurable, instant digestion of info. It disappears as a distraction when you are driving it. The key is to set up your shortcuts which are immediately accessible by pressing the iDrive controller a the top - one quick click. Heck, there is no more shifter onto which one can rest their right hand, so it sits on the controller instead. You can control many functions by learning how to use that controller. It beats multiple buttons and knobs. Having a physical volume knob is great too. You also can cut the music quickly on the steering wheel.
Also, I renamed "Hello BMW" to an activation greeting of my choosing - a much simpler and distinctive one - and it responds instantly. "Hey ______" turn off screen" Darkness.
So yes, a quick learning curve with some patience, and you will actually adapt. We are learning machines.
If you have time to enable launch control without griping about it, you have time to use the excellent tech in this car.
"Hey _______", turn on heated seats." Instant heat. Free in the USandA, no charge.

I’m starting to think BMW has been quite clever about this. Pre-LCI targets Group A and alienates Group B, then the LCI does the reverse, rinse repeat every generation.
