the LCI exterior with the pre-LCI interior would be the sweet spot👌(Or at least just add back physical climate buttons and I’d be fine with the giant screens)
The 2023 also did away with the 8 preset buttons and regular shifter. And I think they may have done away with the huge storage compartment below the light control knob as well. I think I prefer the pre-LCI.
Honestly its kinda boring now.. the pre-LCI looked better in every way in my opinion (especially the cheap interior design they have now implemented). Theres also no manual option as far as I know (yeah it was already available only on the weak 318i and 318d but still, the option was there at least theoretically :D).
This car is proof that BMW isn’t completely losing their ways. This car to me screams classic BMW design. This is a proper successor to the F80 M3. As an E36 M3 owner, I’m going to have a hard time deciding between this and a F87 M2 when I decide to get a newer daily.
I owned a 2022 M340i for 3 months. It was a good car but it drove like a 330i 95% of the time. Even when driving aggressively, it didn’t tug at your heart strings. Upgraded to a manual, 650hp 2022 ZL1 Camaro that is a BEAST!
Lovely car indeed & spot on review 👌🏼 I'm a prefacelift owner and aside from the wrap around digital displays, exactly the same as your test unit. My car literally puts a huge smile on my dial every time I get in. It is hands down the best daily drive I've ever had, and as a previous Audi A4 owner, I can compare apples with apples in this case!
Hi Matt, The increase in weight of about 50 KG that you mention is due to the addition of a 48V mild hybrid system. This system adds about 10hp to power at lower speeds. Also increases fuel economy by about 1 kilometre per litre. The improved low end output is also due to this system. I think it is an important difference to the pre-facelift for the M340i that you should mention.
I prefer the regular 3-series over the M. Note: as 3-series drivers one favourite thing about the bmw is that it warms up a lot faster than our honda civic. Wisconsin Winter.
Just think that ( 374 hp at crank on paper advertised by BMW for euro versions and 382 hp at the crank for NA versions without the OPF installed) real hp figures measured on dyno in stock mode are around 408hp at the wheel and around 440 hp at the crank for this beast! Insane!
Just sold mine this week. It was chipped from (measured)375 to 459 bbp and from 500 to 600 nm making it an absolute brilliant autobahn cruiser, especially since I also had the annoying limiter removed. That reminds me of the fact that I recently could not keep up with a VW Golf between Aachen and Cologne with the 340 reaching his limit at 307km/h. Very respectable but still very damaging to my ego in this case..
Wait wait wait. So its goes 0-60 in 3,8 sec in those conditions when The full m3 went in 3,6 in perfect conditions ? Thats just insane value for money!!
I love where the M340i lands. Around 400hp (let’s be honest, BMW always underrates their motors) and sporty but still gentle enough for the wife and kid to ride comfortably in the car. One of the Best Buy’s for sure.
For the peeps wondering: the all new M340i comes with a 48V mild hybrid system. Under the hood recognised as the thicker "purple" cables running somewhere under the hood/bonnet
If Mat can't resist attempting to copulate, break wind around, and feeling the need to shove a stick up every orifice he finds in the body work of a press car? Then, how does he treat in private his own vehicles?
This is the perfect dad/mom car 😅 perfect for boy racers who graduated to more responsibilities but still want the handling, speed and understated looks!
Have been driving a pre-facelift G21 M340i for two years. Great car great practicality great fuel efficiency too - I did an A1 trip from London to Newcastle and it did 42mpg with most of the time cruise mode driving. It is a shame BMW abolished the gear shift stick and also I really hate the new dashboard design 😅
Matt. The jewel in BMW's crown. Perfection! Better than M3. 10/10! Could not be better. Beats everything out there. Stunning! [That said best of all world's a Touring version?] Thank You.
I bought mine just before the restyling and I did well .. I like the design much less snas talking about touch controls much less ergonomic .. in short I agree with you it is a great BMW and a great machine for long courses the price/performance ratio is unmatched ^^
Awesome review! Like the new structure of the show. Covering the engine before the interior and practicality makes the show cooler and splitting up the driving section was also a good idea.
I got my 71 plate LCI 330i MSport 2 months ago, tanzanite blue, privacy glass and some other extras ~£48K - Would 100% recommend, best car you can buy for that price and better than my 2019 330i MSport, the touch screen controls are super easy to use, they are bigger than buttons, look cleaner and are practically at eye-level, hand on heart, no issues at all
Finally you review the M340i, my cousin has it but I haven't driven it yet, for some apparent reason I've fallen in love with the car too much it's one hell of a perfect daily drive with a little sporty fun to it.
So torn between this and the M440i Coupe! I love how the Coupe looks, with the bigger doors and that amazing a**, I'm also not sold on iDrive 8, it looks gimmicky, very dark, and I see visible dropped frames/lag when people use it, plus the lack of physical temp buttons!!
want the m440i GranCoupe, and the thing is - it's just not existing in my country :) while the audio s5 is available but only 2017-2020 which is quite old version
Pre LCI is the way to go, no hybrid, mopawah, much more driver focused interior and those physical buttons is way more satisfying, easier to use etc etc much better
So the 3L straight six engine gets 374 hp with a single turbo? That's impressive! That must mean it's not far from 300 hp without any turbo. Which again means around 100 hp per liter with only direct injection. Nice engineering.
BMW sandbags on their advertised power figures. The B58 in this version makes around 420hp really. It will put the advertised 374hp down at the tires on a chassis dyno. I've seen it on M340, supra , Z4 M40i. They all put down 370 -380ish hp at the wheels which means the B58 is over 400hp at crank
Would love to see Matt give the new Alpina B3 a spin even if it's on his personal channel. The B3 at least still has the gear selector rather than the toggle, looks rather sweet and has even better performance. I think the rear bumper on the Alpina looks more tidy too as those weird angular shapes are body coloured.....
Nice video (as always) I do agree with your verdict, including the preference for the Touring version 😊 I don't personally like the way they "over-styled" the rear bumper but it's still okay.

I had a 2020 M340i and traded it in for a 840i Gran Coupe March last year. Regretted it ever since. Yeah, the 8er is a lovely car but the M340i was just awesome, best car I have owned (which includes an E92 M3).
@@that-guy213 I wouldn't say that. It's still a quick car, albeit a big cruiser. But then it's not aimed at the "go faster" market. It's main two problems are it's length and and an overly "happy" back end when it's even remotely moist.
Excellent... 👌🏻 Get this in Touring and it's probably the only ONE car you'll ever need... Sporty, practical, elegant... After dull F30 generation this is the proper successor of E46 & E90... Great job BMW... 👏🏻👌🏻🤗
I really like the m340i but I think personally I'd go for the m2 or m240i coupe in a manual. I know you can get the others in a manual coupe as well but I just like the styling of the 2 series a bit better. Plus they still have the b58 in them
You can’t get a 240 with a manual. On top of that, the M Light cars are far better dailies than a full fat M car. My G22 440 will do 50 mpg on a run and still hit 60 in 3.6.
In my country, people say that a BMW car is a 100 euro car. That's because no matter what goes wrong with it, the repair never costs less than 100 euros!
I do agree with your verdict. But I'll stick with my 2020 Canadian Spec M340. More power and it was the only year when the pops, bangs and burbles are off the charts (if you like that sort of thing... I do). Not sure if they added the particulate filter here in North America in 2021... but the awesome sound disappeared that year for some reason. I also prefer iDrive 7 and all my hard buttons. Most importantly I still have the proper shifter which I use WAY more than I ever have before on a paddle shift car. Finally they took away the user lights on the new cars... glad I have them on mine (even though they are sadly dumbed down for North America). But if I needed a new car I would not hesitate to get the new one... M340 is by far the best car I've ever owned!
I think 20’s at the back, spaced and lowered would transform it. Obviously a great car, for me though looks a tad on the boring side. Great video as usual Matt 👍

Whilst we're at it I'm not sure I've seen a 340i touring go under 4 secs to 60 either, but I could be wrong..
Had this car for 9 weeks and it was simply amazing...the response was unreal!

Ahh yes I prefer my gas car because I can lay on the engine in the winter
the LCI exterior with the pre-LCI interior would be the sweet spot👌(Or at least just add back physical climate buttons and I’d be fine with the giant screens)
It's the giant screen that ruins it for me. Looks like it's just been nailed in as an afterthought
I think the Pre-LCI was even better on the outside. We don't have to talk about the new interiour... 👎

Besides the power, what else do you like more about the camaro?
I feel like BMW has been flipping a coin on the design of their cars whether they make it look good or bad. And this time they got it right.
I've had my G21 M340i for about 6 months now and I think the car is just amazing.
Agree with your verdict, it is one of the best cars in its class and bmw have the best driving experience in my opinion
This is the only design in current bmws that makes sense....Infact this is the prettiest car they make right now ...Wish the M3 had this front end 😢
M3 front🤮🤮🤮🤢
Hi Matt, The increase in weight of about 50 KG that you mention is due to the addition of a 48V mild hybrid system. This system adds about 10hp to power at lower speeds. Also increases fuel economy by about 1 kilometre per litre. The improved low end output is also due to this system. I think it is an important difference to the pre-facelift for the M340i that you should mention.
21 and 22 models also have the 48V hybrid system.
@@TheSte1nI live in a market where the pre-LCI M340i does not comes with 48V mild hybrid
I do have a 21 model in Europe that has the 48V hybrid system. It's actually the same weight as the LCI though :).
I wish that the mild hybrid was in the m3
It looks good, goes good and I'd love one... but I am not a fan of the new screen style... not a fan of that at all. Looms like an afterthought!
You're not alone
It's almost a dealbreaker. Same with that shitty little gear change switch thingy.
I went with the 2022 exactly for this reason, hideous screen and lack of shifter and dash buttons.
The most perfect salon on sale

I prefer the regular 3-series over the M. Note: as 3-series drivers one favourite thing about the bmw is that it warms up a lot faster than our honda civic. Wisconsin Winter.
As an m340 owner seeing that beauty covered in ice and salt was pretty painful 😢. She deserves a garage!
I love my M340i, can absolutely recommend it to everyone who loves the B58 and wants some space and a good driving car
Yep. Reminds me to Diablo 2000 model.
Can you imagine The 0-60 after a simple chiptune 😮🎉

Yeah I'd have done probably after some time but honestly who needs it faster than this... 🤔😀
A mate of mine had one of these, it was brilliant, these days, all the car you need.
I love where the M340i lands. Around 400hp (let’s be honest, BMW always underrates their motors) and sporty but still gentle enough for the wife and kid to ride comfortably in the car. One of the Best Buy’s for sure.
Not a huge fan of the new interior, hate all these new touch screens in cars.
Though absoutly love the purple, must be a similar purple silk?

I’ve got the M340d new in early 2023. Can honestly say that it’s a great car. I mean it’s pretty awesome and I absolutely love it. ❤
Prefer this looks wise to the M3. Front grill will never grow on me.
Same here.i will hate them till my death.worst grills on M3/M4 ever🤮
Matt. The jewel in BMW's crown. Perfection! Better than M3. 10/10! Could not be better. Beats everything out there. Stunning!

I bought mine just before the restyling and I did well .. I like the design much less snas talking about touch controls much less ergonomic .. in short I agree with you it is a great BMW and a great machine for long courses the price/performance ratio is unmatched ^^

What an amazing machine, thankful that BMW still offers a middle class car with an engine like this!
Awesome review! Like the new structure of the show. Covering the engine before the interior and practicality makes the show cooler and splitting up the driving section was also a good idea.
I got my 71 plate LCI 330i MSport 2 months ago, tanzanite blue, privacy glass and some other extras ~£48K - Would 100% recommend, best car you can buy for that price and better than my 2019 330i MSport, the touch screen controls are super easy to use, they are bigger than buttons, look cleaner and are practically at eye-level, hand on heart, no issues at all
Launching the M340i in 3.8secs is M3 time. All I can say is WOW!

I'd give it a solid good 8/10 just because I haven't driven it yet
The B58/S58 and B57 are masterpieces of engines 🔥💯
So torn between this and the M440i Coupe! I love how the Coupe looks, with the bigger doors and that amazing a**, I'm also not sold on iDrive 8, it looks gimmicky, very dark, and I see visible dropped frames/lag when people use it, plus the lack of physical temp buttons!!
Pre LCI FTW.
want the m440i GranCoupe, and the thing is - it's just not existing in my country :)
while the audio s5 is available but only 2017-2020 which is quite old version
Pre LCI is the way to go, no hybrid, mopawah, much more driver focused interior and those physical buttons is way more satisfying, easier to use etc etc much better
I would always pick the 340i as it doesn't have the awful front. I would even choose it instead of a M3/M4 because of that.
@@P4LL3R lol, i d better choose m440 just to have that front grill, at least it's not that casual-business guy who just goes to work and back style :)
The B58 has produced these figures for many years. It’s a beautiful, torquey and reliable engine.
I wish we got the B3 in the US. Such a great car
Driving the M340d since two years. Estate version. Can’t think of any better miles eater!
The reason that this LCI model is heavier is because it adds 48V system which makes this LCI model has 55Kg more than the Pre LCI M340i.
Yeah BMW, we really believe the motor makes 374hp with a 3.8 seconds 0-60 🧐😊👌
Nice video (as always)
I do agree with your verdict, including the preference for the Touring version 😊
I don't personally like the way they "over-styled" the rear bumper but it's still okay.

@@that-guy213 I wouldn't say that. It's still a quick car, albeit a big cruiser. But then it's not aimed at the "go faster" market. It's main two problems are it's length and and an overly "happy" back end when it's even remotely moist.
