The comment by the tour guide about the Helios fountain was rubbish; what nonsense was that about making staff want to go to the toilet. The reason the fountain was always off was because VT (video tape) used to be in the basement directly below the fountain, and when the fountain was turned on, water leaked into the VT area. The only time the fountain was turned on was when the Queen visited.
I was privileged to work here for many years what a great building and what a waste to see it being turned into apartments. It was/is the best layout for it's purpose there is nothing like it anywhere in the television world. Somebody should have been hanged for letting this happen. With the move to Salford (face palm) and new Bush House refurb they were well out of pocket and have lost a beautiful, practical functional icon of British history. Thanks to all the consultants who said it would help put money back into BBC coffers,,, ahh it didn't really do that did it, quite sure they all got paid though.
News had only been in TC7 since 1999 after moving out of N2, eventually it moved into the News Centre, now at NBH since 2013.

And when it was turned on for the Queen, the entire VT was flooded.
