I have the Boston 12 and Pro 3 perfect shoes. LIGHTSTRIKE PRO needs about 30 miles to open up and then it's amazing for the next 400 years.. Zoom X is amazing out the box but dead after 150 miles 😢.
380 miles into my AF Next% and they are still working great for me. Friend was selling his AdiosP3s and I tried them on but they felt a) (and this was new to me) like I was running on a narrow strip of the shoe and b) I have yet to like the laces on adidas shoes. Decided not to buy them and maybe it's my loss as they felt fast, but now that I know it's not just the cheap adidas shoes I don't like the laces on etc, I'm unlikely to take a chance on them moving forward, even at a discounted price.
Can’t wait to see you on @MidLifeRunner podcast. Two of my favorites. Yowana, thanks for the review and your additional replies on this vs. the NB SC Trainer v2.
I almost returned my first pair of AP3s after the first couple of runs, but then figured out the lacing and got about 350 miles on them. I have about 175 miles on my second pair and bought a third pair. Once they break in they are fantastic!
I did a half marathon in mine when they arrived, and they felt just as Yowana says, but after 50k in them, I feel like a rocket in them. Almost hitting 400km in them right now and they feel just as amazing.
This is a shoe that the more you use the better it becomes! I have both shoes and I even bought 2 extra Pros cos I am in love with them! I still wear my first pair a year now and I did around 600km on them, and I can still wear them no problem!
The AP3 absolutely requires more break in than many super shoes. Great to hear your first impressions, for sure, but I don’t think 10 miles is a good representation of the shoe. Much like your recent early impression of the Rebel V4 changed dramatically once you’d worn in the foam.
Mine did take some time to break in- also- the sweet spot is in the forefoot. I like the platform barreling down hills too for a racer (wider than others, or at least number 2)
Thanks for testing AAP 3! I just dusted off my AAP 3 from 2022 a couple weeks ago. I had the neon green/black color which is still my favorite. I had to replace the insole, but I can still feel the snappy ride. I'm a 5'9", 160 lbs midfoot striker with wide feet which may explain why this shoe works so well for me, especially at faster paces. I look forward to your follow up analysis... yes, it may take a few good runs before the foam softens up and gets you bouncing along at that marathon pace or faster. Since I don't have any other green colored shoes, I'll use this for the upcoming St Patty's day 10k again!
I thought for sure this would be your favorite racing shoe. Prob needs some break in. I enjoy the channel. You are a natural. Prob should be in sales for sure.
I had wondered why you hadn't tried the Adios Pro 3, given your enthusiasm for the Boston 12 and SL. It seems like a great shoe. For a long race, I don't think I would want something overly soft or unstable.
Not sure about you but the Pro 3 is an awesome pair for me. I have 2 pairs and no difference. First pair at 600km and still rocking smooth. And I'm 61kg
Foot Doctor Zach mentioned this was not going to benefit heel strikers because of the rod placement despite it having such a wide heel. Mid foot and forefoot is where you get that pop. I’d say maybe try it at easier paces to see if that helps. That might be why the heavier runners prefer it. Thanks for the review!
Not surprised you didn’t overly like it after just 10 miles. Adidas Pro 3 needs at least 20-30 miles break in in my experience so you need to give it a good couple of long tempo’s / long runs first then come back and tell us you love it now :-)
Change the insoles and the laces! Once the shoe molds to the bottom of your foot it’s absolute magic. This shoe is the reason I didn’t enjoy the Boston 12, which was a brick.
I really loved Takumi Sen 8 and Prime X Strung OG. The foam is energetic in these two. Especially PXS gives my significant bounce and 10-15s advantage per mile. I do have Adios Pro 2 and 3 as well. They are decent shoes which I use for easier long runs but I don't get the same energy return as PXS or high turnover of TS8. I am going to run The Woodlands Marathon in PXS. The Lightstrike PRO foam gets better over time. So give them some time for fully formed opinion. As for foam color, I have to check when I get home but I think my pairs of shoes above have the same color for Light Strike Pro more or less. My Pro 3 is from 2022 (The Black/Green colorway). It is also possibly due to a different site/country of production or maybe you uncovered a slight variation in the formulation over different year production lots. Maybe exposure to elements (water, heat, air) is changing the color as well.
You have to give some time to the midsole. At first I hated mi AAP 3, but after 50km for me, they became a beauty. I have 250 miles and they are still good.
i got mine on sale a while back, but not a huge fan of the lacing. Going to try to keep troubleshooting the lacing system and/or get new laces. But everything else feels great. Last half-marathon i ran was in Endorphin Pro 3 which felt great, but really want to try to race in these things eventually.
Own two pairs of these a release day one and one bought last week. The foam is identical. Love this shoe and it Definately softens up / benefits from break in. I found they really start to come alive once you’ve got 50. Plus miles logged in them. I found the same with the adios pro 2 as well.
Did you experience blister at the big toe joint due to harsh inside part of the upper? I tried AAP3 last week and started to feel the blister after 8 km.
I have dedicated my teen years to running😂so i have gotten around 32ish shoes now...i have all of the top teir supershoes that are out now. I am more of a mid distance runner and my threshold is about 5:30. I have found personally that the Takumis are straight up my favorite shoes! The Vaporlfly 3s are constantly getting better the more i run in them, however the Takumis and the Adios Pro 3s are my 2 favorites!!!
My second pair of Adios pro 3 has just gone back faulty. The first pair last year cream/green lasted 400 miles, blistered the ball of my foot during a marathon last year so relegated it to training...no problems during training just at marathon pace. Loved it tho so gambled ordered another pair...green/pink. The heel on this one rubbed both my Achilles badly and also had rough pieces inside the front toe box. Again this year blistered the ball of my foot but only at marathon pace. The lower lace loops pulled out this week so it had to return it and received a credit note. I did like this shoe but it didnt like me, i enjoy your posts and agree with your weight and build comment on which shoe fits who better. Iam 155 lbs nearly 57 years old and going for a sub 3.10-3.15 marathon in the Autumn. Would appreciate any advice, i might not be quick enough for the saucony elite after viewing your post on them. Many thanks
I would suggest the Saucony endorphin pro 4! It's a little softer than the adios pro 3 but feels perfect to me around those 3 hour marathon paces you're running. Super comfortable overall and has a nice bounce to it at every pace
The adios pro 3 is my race day shoe. I hit my mile, 5k, 10k, half and marathon PRs in them. The springy-ness propels me forward like no other super shoe. The only downside is that I had a ton of trouble hugging sharp turns in them. Other than that they are the near perfect super shoe.
The Adios Pro 3 takes a few runs to open up IMHO. I took my pair for its inaugural race at Craft Beer Half last year (I think I saw you on the course) and did pretty well considering it was a B race, but I had already put 40-50 miles on the shoe at that point. And they last forever. I used that same pair for a 50k a few weeks ago in terrible weather. After I wiped the mud off and shook out the silt, they didn’t look any worse for wear. As far as racing shoes, they may not be the most energetic, but they’re tanks. For me, they work best at MP or HMP, but not as much the shorter, faster stuff. But since they are so durable, I can do a lot of training in them, like long runs with pace or long workouts.
Just ran in mine and reminded me just how fun it is to run in and also how horrendous the upper feels on foot . Rhe geometry is also a weird one , like it forces you to run a certain way.
Would love to hear a comparison to the new Tyr valkyrie. The 6mm drop littler firmer than vaporfly has made the ap3 my favorite and wonder how the 6mm tyr stacks up with the saucony like firmer peba.
The heel looks promising. The inner heel collar padding seems to extend around the back a bit more than the Boston 12 (would be better if it connected) and the heel cup looks flexible? Similar to the Takumi Sen8 heel cup? I took the Takumi Sen8 out again yesterday for an all out 3min test and various pickups for a total of about 12km and while not comfortable, it did the job. After lace locking the hell out of it...I didn't experience any heel lift....but did I ever get lace bite on the top of my foot/ankle. I just think that Adidas heels aren't for me, which is ok. Doesn't matter how good the tech and midsole of a shoe is, if the upper doesn't work for you.
On your video from yesterday in the first seconds I thought another person were speaking for you but than I realized that your voice just sounds to me like years of smoking and drinking alcohol regularly 😁 I hope you‘re feeling better now Bro 😍 Obviously your body has picked up a little cold right? Good bless you man 🙌 I wish you all the best 👌
i felt this after my first run.. the upper gave me a blister and the midsole felt flat.. but after that oh my.. it got better after my 2nd and 3rd runs and i chose it for Chicago last year over the Vaporfly 3.. i somehow got the lacing better to make the upper workable and the midsole just gets better.. just my experience but yeah i love the AAP3!
I was eager on buying the pro 3’s, ‘cause they looked like takumi sense’s big brother. And I love my takumi sen 8’s. Maybe they just need some breaking in?
They take a few to break in. Once they do they feel like a blend between vaporfly and alphafly in the sense that they feel best when you land on that “fat pad” sweet spot. They also standout in terms of durability. I’ve had multiple pairs that last over 400 miles and midsole still feel good, limiting factor being the outsole wore thru and the upper ripped apart from the midsole after extended wear.
Not too long ago, I ran with a team that was Adidas sponsored. So the Pro 3 was my predetermined marathon shoe. Like you, I have loved the Boston, SL and Takumi. The Solarboost series ain’t bad, either. However, it took me 100 miles to get comfortable in the adios pro 3. I would have stopped running in it after one marathon if I didn’t have to wear it. My first pair just felt “off” so I half sized up next round. Second pair… one of the first eyelet strings down near the toe box just gave out a week before a race. Third pair just lives in my closet now.
@@supwell I’m gearing up for a mountain running season, as I am blessed to live in Montana. I won’t run a road marathon again until fall 2024. For mountain stuff this season, I’m planning to use the Adidas Terrex Ultra Speed, the shoe Tom Evans won Western States in. I will race a few road half marathons this summer to keep some speed, and I’ll likely lace up the NB Elite V3 or V4. I know that the Nike racing lineup is better for me, but I just can’t support Nike still.
Looking forward to your EP4 review. Strongly contemplating buying it as my 1st race shoe. Metaspeed looks interesting too. EP4 felt unbeliavable during my short store testing.
The foam likes being squished to release the flavour, like a piece of hard chewing gum needs to be chewed up, lighter runners take a few runs to squish it in, make it bouncy, after that, mad energy return for hundreds of miles it just gets better and better.
I remember that in 2022 when I bought the Boston 11 , I could have payed a tinny more and could have bought the Adios Pro 3 instead ( or was it the Pro 2, can't remember ). Anyways, I ended loving my Boston 11, used it for one year/ 650km and still donated it for a friend that still have the shoes today. My question for you would be : By the Boston 12 or pay a bit more and go directly to the Pro 3, for fun and training, but not competition yet for me ?! I wonder if it will be as stable and durable as the Boston... Thanks .
It is not durable, it is difficult to adapt, the big toe of the long foot sticks to the front... But once you get used to it the sensations were fantastic.
I completely agree with everything you said about adidas pro 3 I think it’s a solid shoe but that’s about it , it doesn’t wow or feel exciting or fast like other brands super shoes It actually put me off trying the Boston so it’s interesting you say you like that one better People say light strike pro gets better with brake in but it didn’t feel much better for me I think the sen 8 broke in tho And was good I feel like the prime x strung 1 was the shoe the pro 2 and pro 3 was supposed to be but i think the rules around 40 mm stack hight where written while the original pime x was been developed If you haven’t tried the prime x strung 1 I would recommend not the strung 2 tho
I didn't love the Boston 12 at first. Felt really stiff, brick like. In combination with stiff upper there was not much to like about the shoe. After 100km it grew on me, feels a bit softer now but still can't say i love them, like is a better word.
Being a Boston fan as well I was hoping for a different outcome, but only time will tell. What shoe gives you the most Boston feel for marathon distance so far? Thanks for the mind reader-like content!
diadora gara has been most similar - the foam in there feels like a slightly softer version of the lightstrike pro in the boston and the forefoot geometry is similar. i'm planning to get some more miles in these and report back since a bunch of people mentioned it might need break- in
Is it just me but the midfoot portion of the AP3 is extremely narrow? I tried the Boston 12 which didnt have the issue so I got that. With the AP3 i felt 1/4 of my midfoot(inner side) was just spilling out of the shoe and was afraid that running in this manner would cause me pain. The forefoot was fine especially for me with a wide feet.
Shape of the outsole is completely different, in Pro3 is very short and agresive. In Boston and Diadora rocker is very smooth and longer....maybe because of that Pro3 is not the best choice for you?
You may have nailed it on height, weight etc being a factor in adios pro 3. Works only cerain runners. Same for me. Seems the Adios Pro 3 demands a certain foot strike midfoot. I am still trying to make Adiks Pro3 work. At 20 miles, my shoe ahould be breaking in. We will see
Love the pro 3ms for stability and theway they save my legs/feet after the 16mile mark. It is mot the fastest shoe, but when you set a pace those shoes LOCK IN
Completely unrelated to the shoes but I have been racking my brain about my foot strike (heel) and based on this video looks like you do the same. Is it bad/inefficient to do so?
Great question - my general approach is that if you are improving fitness without getting injured then you shouldn't worry about form. I've been able to consistently get faster and increase my volume over a few years without messing with my footstrike or cadence and it's worked for me. Also the idea of forcing myself to run in an unnatural way just does not seem enjoyable hahaha so if you are consistently running, staying healthy and meeting your goals then I wouldn't worry about it
the laces are awful but then make alot of sense, stability runner view unable to use Boston12 as its medial to soft but im fine in Pro3 find it supportive and energetic but i guess my weight *80/82kg makes that difference over you?
You can only get 100 miles from these shoes?? I've hears. I see these are on sale for $125 and I'd love to buy ny first pair and train and run them in December half marathon
These are one of the most durable race shoes out there! You can get 300+ miles from a pair of these. It's a great shoe to use for training because of that
@@supwell keep up the good work 🙏. For 5k the AAP3 matches my EP3 and RXv2 at UK parkrun having initially writing it off for shorter distances. Seems to suit me.
need to get more miles in both before i can say - but so far both have been a bit firmer and more stable than other racing shoes so they are two good options for what you're looking for
lacing is shit😢always churning my left foot 😥last weekend I even asked myself why I'm wearing it at 36km , had to stop n loosen it a bit n go some holes down on the laces 😥
The AP3 has been my least favorite super shoe I have tried. Which included the Vaporfly 2, Alphafly 1, metaspeed edge, puma deviate nitro elite and Cielo X1. Also, for all the criticism the Cielo gets about its weight, my AP3 weigh 5 grams heavier.
The pro 3 is just a boston 12 on steroids. I run pro 3, boston and the prime x strung. My pro 3 are on 85 miles so nice and run in but I can't remember them feeling any different when new. The upper does break in though so first couple of runs might get some rubbing off lace eyelets but that disappears. I'd choose pro 3 over boston 12 everyday of the week it's night and day for me. You sure you're running in them right? 😂
The worst 1/2 I ever ran was a product of that shoe..the upper is horrible, the heel lift is bad,it feels like you're running up hill cos the roll thru is so bad..at 7mi I met the wife and by then I could hardly run..I swap to a pr of NB 1080v10 and finished the race but by that time it was too late..haven't used a pr of Adidas shoes since..the pro V2 was OK up to 5k and V1 was the best of them..if I need to put more than 5mi in a shoe to break it in its gone..
I have the Boston 12 and Pro 3 perfect shoes. LIGHTSTRIKE PRO needs about 30 miles to open up and then it's amazing for the next 400 years.. Zoom X is amazing out the box but dead after 150 miles 😢.

Third pair just lives in my closet now.
thanks for the insight! what are you racing in these days?
@@supwell I’m gearing up for a mountain running season, as I am blessed to live in Montana. I won’t run a road marathon again until fall 2024. For mountain stuff this season, I’m planning to use the Adidas Terrex Ultra Speed, the shoe Tom Evans won Western States in. I will race a few road half marathons this summer to keep some speed, and I’ll likely lace up the NB Elite V3 or V4. I know that the Nike racing lineup is better for me, but I just can’t support Nike still.
Feel the same, love the Boston 12, but just can't get into the pro 3 after multiple runs, always feels like a struggle
With that sole cutout lool like the Hoka Cielo as well somewhat similar in that sense. Would like to see a comparison between this and the Hoka
Give these a few more miles to break in the foam n shoe and you’ll be amazed.
I think you need the size right. I have half size up on adios pro 3 and they feel like a better alphafly 2
Looking forward to your EP4 review. Strongly contemplating buying it as my 1st race shoe. Metaspeed looks interesting too. EP4 felt unbeliavable during my short store testing.
The foam likes being squished to release the flavour, like a piece of hard chewing gum needs to be chewed up, lighter runners take a few runs to squish it in, make it bouncy, after that, mad energy return for hundreds of miles it just gets better and better.
love that chewing gum comparison 💪🏽
You bought the last pair of 10-1/2 in that colorway. I tried to order it a couple of weeks ago but it was sold out. 😢
My question for you would be :
By the Boston 12 or pay a bit more and go directly to the Pro 3, for fun and training, but not competition yet for me ?!
I wonder if it will be as stable and durable as the Boston...
Thanks .
It is not durable, it is difficult to adapt, the big toe of the long foot sticks to the front... But once you get used to it the sensations were fantastic.
I completely agree with everything you said about adidas pro 3
I think it’s a solid shoe but that’s about it , it doesn’t wow or feel exciting or fast like other brands super shoes
It actually put me off trying the Boston so it’s interesting you say you like that one better
People say light strike pro gets better with brake in but it didn’t feel much better for me
I think the sen 8 broke in tho
And was good
I feel like the prime x strung 1 was the shoe the pro 2 and pro 3 was supposed to be but i think the rules around 40 mm stack hight where written while the original pime x was been developed
If you haven’t tried the prime x strung 1 I would recommend not the strung 2 tho
I didn't love the Boston 12 at first. Felt really stiff, brick like. In combination with stiff upper there was not much to like about the shoe. After 100km it grew on me, feels a bit softer now but still can't say i love them, like is a better word.
so should i go for the boston 12 or pro 3? mainly want to use it for easy 5ks and ocassionly do some hill sprints
@yowana Will you do a 100 or 200 mile review on them, or did you ditch them completely?
I'm planning to do more videos on them!
AP3 absolutely required at least 50 miles to break in for me.
I love the Adios Pro 3. However, unlike most other super shoes you need to break it in.
Boston 12 is a good shoe, except that the Pro 3 exists!
Durability and price makes it 2 different shoe
@@klipklapklop3359 Exactly. 2 Totally different shoes. So buy what your budget supports.
@@klipklapklop3359which one more durable?
Shape of the outsole is completely different, in Pro3 is very short and agresive. In Boston and Diadora rocker is very smooth and longer....maybe because of that Pro3 is not the best choice for you?
You may have nailed it on height, weight etc being a factor in adios pro 3. Works only cerain runners. Same for me. Seems the Adios Pro 3 demands a certain foot strike midfoot. I am still trying to make Adiks Pro3 work. At 20 miles, my shoe ahould be breaking in. We will see
How do you find it now?
Love the pro 3ms for stability and theway they save my legs/feet after the 16mile mark. It is mot the fastest shoe, but when you set a pace those shoes LOCK IN
More runs in and a new review :)
Did you get this the same size as Boston 12 or half a size bigger like in the Takumi Sen?
i went same size (10.5 US mens) and it feels good
I actually didn't really like the pro 3 until it broke in a bit at about 30 miles.
for a easy half marathon without metatarsal problems, is adios pro 3 or new balance sc trainer v2 better? I'm looking for something stable and comfy.
definitely sc trainer v2 if you're looking for easy and comfortable. sc trainer v2 has more padding and a softer feel - stability is solid too
Completely unrelated to the shoes but I have been racking my brain about my foot strike (heel) and based on this video looks like you do the same. Is it bad/inefficient to do so?
Great question - my general approach is that if you are improving fitness without getting injured then you shouldn't worry about form. I've been able to consistently get faster and increase my volume over a few years without messing with my footstrike or cadence and it's worked for me. Also the idea of forcing myself to run in an unnatural way just does not seem enjoyable hahaha so if you are consistently running, staying healthy and meeting your goals then I wouldn't worry about it
Appreciate the feedback brotha! Will keep it simple! Happy running my friend!
How does one interpret the reviews of a heel striker if they are themselves a midfoot/forefoot striker? Serious question.
You need a good 20 mile long run in it to truly enjoy it afterwards
AP3 is the 🐐!
the laces are awful but then make alot of sense, stability runner view unable to use Boston12 as its medial to soft but im fine in Pro3 find it supportive and energetic but i guess my weight *80/82kg makes that difference over you?
I don’t love the shoe but you do need to break it in, similar to B12
Adios pro 3 definitely needs a break in period. I am confident you'll love it after 30ish miles.
You can only get 100 miles from these shoes?? I've hears. I see these are on sale for $125 and I'd love to buy ny first pair and train and run them in December half marathon
These are one of the most durable race shoes out there! You can get 300+ miles from a pair of these. It's a great shoe to use for training because of that
Idk I AP3 is my 2nd favorite shoe… behind Sen 9
AP3 is very good, better than the AF2.
Takes 2-3 runs to break in for me. In the UK they can be sourced for around £130 in the past 12 months which makes a sound option.
Thanks for the insight - I'm looking forward to some more miles in them
@@supwell keep up the good work 🙏. For 5k the AAP3 matches my EP3 and RXv2 at UK parkrun having initially writing it off for shorter distances. Seems to suit me.
Give the Pro 3 80 to 100 miles of break in and they will come alive.
My pro 3s have off white color on the foam.
Is this better than the Sc Elite V4 for slow pace 3/4 hour marathoners?
need to get more miles in both before i can say - but so far both have been a bit firmer and more stable than other racing shoes so they are two good options for what you're looking for
It took mine (2 pairs) at least 25 minutes to start coming alive.
lacing is shit😢always churning my left foot 😥last weekend I even asked myself why I'm wearing it at 36km , had to stop n loosen it a bit n go some holes down on the laces 😥
I absolutely hate my Bostons. Lol I think I'll like my AP3, but I've only had one run in them.
We found the one person on the interwebs that doesn't like AP3 haha.
“Very Scientifically by the way” 😂😂😂
The worst 1/2 I ever ran was a product of that shoe..the upper is horrible, the heel lift is bad,it feels like you're running up hill cos the roll thru is so bad..at 7mi I met the wife and by then I could hardly run..I swap to a pr of NB 1080v10 and finished the race but by that time it was too late..haven't used a pr of Adidas shoes since..the pro V2 was OK up to 5k and V1 was the best of them..if I need to put more than 5mi in a shoe to break it in its gone..
Maybe” they’ll grow on you like the Bostons did
