Howdy from Green Bay. Just bought a pair of these Yesterday, wore them to work for the first time today, pretty sore but I got a lot of compliments. I walk about 11-13 miles during my work day so hopefully the break in doesn't take too long. Once I have a better idea about fit after break in I wanna invest in a black pair of RW blacksmiths as well

Honestly, boot trees are unnecessary. Shoe trees are just fine. The purpose of shoe trees are to hold the shape of the foot area, and to absorb the sweat from your feet. So, cedar shoe trees are a must, but there is no real benefit to boot trees specifically. The shaft of the boots does not absorb sweat like the foot area, and while the foot area will start to curl up over time if you skip the shoe trees, but the ankle portion are not going to do that regardless.

That's a good call out, can probably save folks some cash too.
      Thank you!

Look at the JK Boots 300. It’s a Pacific Northwest boot that is made with some high density foam in the midsole and a wedge sole. They do any width you want.

I'll have to give those a peek!
Last time they only had my width in black and idk if I'm about that life 😂

Haha yeah I have to wear black boots at work so I don’t want anything black when I’m off usually. They’ve got a handful of different leather colors for the 300 now.

Great video. I have a question though, you say towards the end that if you’re going to be using an insole that your knees are shot by the end of the day. Wouldn’t an inner sole help with cushioning and some arch support versus the standard bare leather footbed? That confused me. Hope you can clarify. Thank you.

My Wisco accent took over a bit there hearing it back. Install is what I was trying to say.
If I am doing an install my knees will be shot, long hours on hard floors are not your friend in these. However, an insole would for sure help!

Ive had mine about a month and just swapped the laces for some rounded leather ones for the same reason, I think i'm on the tail end of the breakin but i keep getting a blister on this one spot on my left heel , doubling socks has helped alot, it varies depending on how well i tie the laces i think my left foot is a little smaller than my right one, i dunno, also kinesiology tape has helped.

Heel rub makes it sound like the size isn't quite right for you on that boot. I would recommend looking to a custom insole if needed.
Hope the pain goes away so you can enjoy your boots!

My foot is a 9.5 4E so I feel the wide thing. Interestingly, I hate boots in wide sizes. Shoes, all day. I wear a combo of 2/4E New Balance all of the time but in boots the ankle/heel is always way too big in a wide size. Sadly, my midfoot gets pinched in a D unless I go up a size, which is normally what I do.
Anyway, I went to the redwing store the other day and tried on the IRs in 9EE, 9.5EE and 10D, none fit comfortably. The EE models, like other brands were just massive in the heel and the D was super tight. Not like cut off circulation tight but not something that would have broken in either. They didn't have a 10.5D for me to try but it may have worked. My SS 2.0 are 10D and they fit well but they are a lined boot. And the Classic Mocs felt okay in a 10D too, but I don't like the way my foot fits in Mocs in general.
I've tried lots of brands. Sadly, I don't think my feet like heritage boots, lol.

How do you like the lines boot? The 1222s I tease at the end have a waterproof bootie in them (only reason my wide mid foot fits) but it gets pretty toasty on days I find myself all over the work property.
I'm hoping a pair of Nick's fit feet like we have a bit better!

I like the Super Soles, haven't tried any of their other working boots. I want to try the 2441 because it is a round toe with the traction tread. When I use my boots for work it is 8-12 hours a day on concrete (standing/walking) and I think the wedge sole might make a difference.
Being transparent, I find my slip resistant New Balance to be more comfortable at work, lol.
For working around the garage and in the yard, I find about anything acceptable, lol. But yes, lined boots get toasty, for sure.@@MakeWithZac

They make 8089 or 8088 iron rangers with traction tred sole

I peeled those but they only seem to do standard D width and EE 🙁

wow 4E i thought i had wide feet!! also... Redwing made a special run of the iron rangers with a wedge sole (check rose anvil's youtube video). Although they only come in certain styles and sizes- and none in wide :( which is why i didn't get them. quick question- since you haven't done any conditioning, did these ever get wet? I like the way yours look- my 8085's are much lighter around the forefoot area. I've made the mistake of conditioning the first pair of 8085's i bought so i will not be conditioning my newer pair at all.

Not soaked but they have gotten damp in rain/snow. Never for more than a half hour at a time though. The salt in the snow is the most concerning but I've let it ride to see what happens

One thing that's not talked about is what kind of leather these are. They're nappa leather so buy conditioner accordingly, you're welcome.

Typical. They are not the right size and you wear them anyway.
