    Mathas, did you ever play the Legacy of Kain series? They're great games (Defiance especially) with amazing voice acting and a good mix of combat, story and kinda-sorta exploration puzzles.

    Fun trivia, It's highly hinted that the Cabbie, is infact Cain, the father of all Vampires.

    • @bennemeth625
      @bennemeth625 8 років тому +4

      Fuckin' Hell Man
      I believe the developers intended him to be that Malkavian from the books who thinks he's Cain but yes his voice files are all labelled "Cain".

    • @atomiicpunk
      @atomiicpunk 8 років тому +3

      We know Could be, but the Cabbie Driver also demonstrates this Black Aura that cant be seen from any other vampire in the game.
      That and Smiling Jack did infact meet THE Caine.

    • @bennemeth625
      @bennemeth625 8 років тому

      Fuckin' Hell Man Could've just deablorised (or however you spell the act of feeding on other vampires) but you have a point.
      Also if he really is Cain then the fortune teller's prediction make a lot more sense all the sudden.

    That's one hell of a review, Mathas. What a great job! So well written and thoughtful! My only question is: why the second channel? Because people are lazy and most of them won't watch it, while on your main channel it could have much more views. Overall, it was amazing, thank you so much.

    I like what you're going for here, style-wise! Really excited to see more Judging! :D
    As for specific feedback, some of the framelong jokes ("Nope" "Nice touch" etc.) were a bit too short in my opinion, but something like that is must be hella hard to accurately plan. Props for giving it a go! :P
    Overall, me likey. I like the choice of doing a short 'prologue' before the intro, you mention both the good and bad, and the overall description of the game paints a rock-solid picture of what the game has to offer.
    Basically; POLISH, BIATCH!

  • @DraphEnjoyer

    Fun fact the developers of this game weren't even adequately paid for it. White Wolf was shut down right when the game came out and Activision kept all the profits
    So basically if you buy this game on Steam you're just giving money to a greedy publisher.

    • @Leavannah
      @Leavannah 6 років тому

      Minor correction (better late than never): Trokia went bankrupt after the game came out, of which Activision didn't help. Valve wouldnt let any game on the source engine come out before HL2, and Activision had the bright idea of pushing the game out along side HL2. As such it was overshadowed. The staff at Trokia after the company went under, stayed on (unpaid) and pushed out a patch to fix some major bugs, which was then carried on by the community.
      White Wolf own(ed?) The World of Darkness and licenced it to Trokia to make the game, and as far as I'm aware, are still going :)

    I did the whole game with only my fists, because that's how I look at the vampires: powerful, strong, smart and beautiful. I killed everyone with fists, but I never could beat Ming-Xiao. I didn't deal enough damage and it wasn't enough of the blood. I didn't have enough points in firearms or melee weapons to beat her either. I just had to use some console commands to kill her so I could finish the game lol :D

    That was really good & obviously you will get even better. It was great seeing a critical & intellectual review of a game from you. I want to watch your playthrough sometime because the game looks more interesting than I first thought.
    Some of the editing was good, some was too clunky & not as flowing as it could be but I *really* enjoyed this content & I think this is going to be a great series.

    I loved the Masquerade! I think that company who made the game was bought by CCP (Eve Online) even though they had another project in mind that never saw light of the monitors. Learning that Paradox has rights now makes me eager to play again game similar to The Masquerade. There is another Vampire game but not nearly good as this one. Much older.

    With the unofficial patches? Because I distinctly remember they fixed the gunplay and kind of every shortcoming. Just play Brujah for guns. I kinda played through this 8 times at least, and while the combat does have shortcomings you can approach every quest at least 3-4 ways. Kind of like deus ex does it but better. Eg.: Talk, stealth, combat, use hidden traps terminals or the environment, use powers to make them kill each other... That is what helps so much with the roleplay.
    I remember I was a temp at the Hungarian equivalent of PC Gamer when this released and Asked the guy who gave a shit review why he did so when he was a Masq fan. He didn't even get to act two because of the bugs. Everyone was so impatient with this game, it also had shit marketing.
    Also the end levels are there so you can finally let loose and feel powerful.

    Oh the memories..
    i still remember finding this game (somethin like 10 years ago) attached to a monthly gaming magazine that gave out 1 free game each month;
    i also remember that, for some reason, they screwed up the process of burning the cd copies, and had to release a patch in the next number of the magazine...awesome.
    anyway, i loved this game so much..
    still remember playin for the first time as a Gangrel...an amazing time; i still remember the "snuff film location" quest
    my second playthrough was as a Nosferatu...and it literally was a different game;
    i had to play so differently :
    you can't talk to humans for example..which are most of your conversations otherwise;
    you have to use the sewers instead of the streets;
    you have to use the "secret nosferatu" levels and hideout;
    seriously, an hidden gem if i've ever seen any

    Cool vid. I loved playing it. Mostly as Brujah and Ganreal. But, also I did pretty good as the Torador. My Brujah was named Zeb. Gangrel name Nisa Un Zeb. And Toreador I forget what I named her. Though I made a Tremere named Sabrina. (Cause I thought it was funny.) I liked that the game had different endings depending on what you did. Was annoyed you couldn't romance Damsel. Since she was voiced by Courtenay Taylor. The same woman that voiced Jack from ME2 &3. As well as the female hero in Fall Out 4. I still have my Blood lines CD around here some ware. I could never get the mods to work. Since some of the other Clans I saw people have on U-tube would have been fun to play. The Tzimisce in this game was messed up. Jeanette didn't make it threw my first play threw since I went all Camarilla. I had to make changes to the power structure in LA. Sadly Troika didn't stay on. They were good at making games. This game was way better than Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption. Sadly no Multi player in Blood lines. It was an awesome game.

    Excellent video, I really enjoyed your review Mathas! Bloodlines is one of my favourite RPGs of all time (next to KotOR 1 and 2), I still have my 4 CD original edition. I loved the quests and the story so much, that I had to play it as Gangrel first, then a Malkavian back in 2004. I recently played it through again with the Final Nights mod as Setite, and I gotta say, it still holds up, just as you said.

    Gah, your reaction to your apatment is so Ventrue it hurts. Seriously though, love the video. Someday you should do a special or something on your tabletop exploits. If you're a Ventrue in WoD, I can't help but be curious about what type of character and class you go for in D&D.
    ...I also want to make a joke with the way you used obfuscate at around the 15:10 mark, and the in-world ability Obfuscate, but can't think of anything witty. How embarrassing, considering I play Toreador.

    It's also kind of funny really. I was always an all-around type of gamer. Currently I have a Switch, a PS4, 3DS, Wii U and my laptop. The Wii U by the way was a gift for my baby brother our mother bought it for him right before a couple of months later he got his hands on the PS4 and then a switch himself so he passed along to me at a point where I didn't have the switch there just some games on the Wii U that I love you know that I can't get on the switch. But like I say I'm an all-around gamer. And the good thing about the PC when it has ports is that I can always have two of the game in case something happens to one of them like vending happened to my laptop then oh good I could just play that same game I love on my PS4 this way I never have to worry about not having what I want until I can fix the situation you know. As I said though a good many of them I bought or was given because I'm sword the gamer my family and my relatives are like if their kid isn't going to be playing it and are going to throw away a perfectly good game system then they send it my way. But I tend to be neutral on the whole Affair. Some games work better on the PC then on the PS4 and some games are better played on the console I like pretty artwork in graphics but I don't give two flying f**** if the gameplay sucks in those Graphics are holding the game back you know. And funny enough my PC is filled more with old games like System Shock 2 as much as I tried to defend the first game I don't really like it so I skip to number two! All my favorite Advanced D&D games like the Neverwinter Nights series both the first and the second ones Baldur's Gate and I mean the first one in the second one not the new version that adds a few on necessary things if you know what I mean. Fallout 1 and 2 and I find myself liking the first one over the second one and the second one over the first one. And Fallout New Vegas because f*** Fallout 3 and 4. I mostly pursue games that are more exclusive to a specific system. Because I find they work way better on what they were intended to be on rather than multi-platform where it's a guessing game unless I look at reviews on which one works the best on which one. Discovered this would some games like this on there to where I see a lot of slow down during specific cutscenes if you will you know like when you're being taken around on the speed boat for example I started to notice a lot of slow down and bad framework work. The only reason I tolerated it was because once you got out of those the game works perfectly fine. Don't know if that was an oversight or whatever since I played the first game and I never saw this type of slow down on the PS3. But as I said sometimes it's better not the port specific games if you're not going to do the port Justice. Resident Evil 4 is suffering clone syndrome where they just kept remaking the damn thing that it was bound to eventually run into a system where it did not work or they f***** up on referring to the switch version. But again I'm an all-around type of gamer not a PC Master race not a console peasant. The great advantage of this is I don't have to worry too much about getting screwed over I got to enjoy Metro Exodus on my PS4 while everybody was whining about it being on the epic game store. Bonus because I got it during the Spring sale at Game Stops with my coupons so I barely paid anything. And once I got my fill well I sold it back to them with plans of getting it back much later on getting way more than I paid for it. if they're going to screw you over then the smart option is to screw them over and without even committing a crime at that since everything I did was perfectly legal! That's how you get back at them when they try to screw you over

    My only real criticism is that this really doesn't need a second channel. Realistically, how many of these are you going to do a month? 2-4? That's easily fit into your current line-up on the Main channel. All that's going to happen is less people will see them and probably discourage you from continuing what could become a fantastic series, especially after you get more comfortable with the style. Just my 2 cents.

    For me the first game “vampire the masquerade redemption” is much better. I don’t now why this one is so praised. Even so I wish they would continue to make games for this universe.Personally I like games like the Witcher where you don’t have to make your own character or games like dragon age origins where every character has a backstory and that story becomes part of the game.

    How about a few links to things we can use--like where to get mods. I tried nexus and there were a pitiful few and none that I could find on Steam. So where are they?

    It's in my top 5 best video game RPG's ever. I wish they would make a remake of this game kind of like what Nintendo did with the first Resident Evil. But to be honest, I don't have any faith that anything as good will come out of the World of Darkness. You simply get to much choice in a world that wants you to level grind in linear hallways with one or two pre-determined characters to choose from just to get to the next cut scene.

      I know what your saying..this game is not a first person shooter and an has a great deal of sexual content that other games only wish they could achieve. it's a rather evil fun ride

    I'll tell you the real reason it didn't sell well, they probably couldn't get reviews or ads on websites/magazines because of the sex and clothing of the women, 90% of succesful games have bugs and all the other things you mention and half as good gameplay and they're successful because they don't have controversial content, you can find the same themes in every classic game that didn't sell well at release.

    Don't feel too bad Final Fantasy 7 was also my first RPG. Though I will say I was much more lucky in getting all the great RPGs I missed before Final Fantasy 7.
    You know the one thing that the Masquerade taught me. It's that I hate these games that give me so many multiple Solutions and the forcing specific type of situations or downright discourage me from playing in a certain way. I had this problem with Deus Ex as well where I did come across a lot of first-time player traps. You know like having a skill for swimming and you only swim in one location in the game! That sort of thing the same thing they had with System Shock 2 which I believe was way worse with that. Not a problem if you have a guide and know what to expect but a problem if you go in without thinking. Hell it still persist today like games such as prey which tried to be too much like System Shock 2 you know having a bit of the flaws that that game had not more so but they were still there. Still laugh after playing the game and hearing all the critics and lets players who whined about not having enough ammo and all that stuff when I remembered tippers telling me how dad I couldn't deal with the game in a fashion I'm used to in a shooter. That made me start getting creative when it came to dealing with the enemies and keeping up resources. Such as if I'm still in that area I best explore as much as I can at that point so when the enemies respawn I could just use shortcuts to get where I need to go in that area and then move on. The technopath in fabrication taught me this lesson when I tried to fight it the first time died five times succeeded in the six-time only use up so much resources taking it down for so little gain. So I reload to the save and just avoided the damn thing. Sneaking past until I was able to get everything important that I was able to grab previously after killing it and got the hell out of Dodge without a single problem. I learned from that experience that sometimes you're better off not fighting some enemies like the Poltergeist and the mimic those are type enemies you want to kill. Other enemies though you could skip by them unless you can find the smart way to kill some of them. It's about using your brain hell even if you go gung-ho when I played the second time with a heavy security build where would more combat Focus. I still kept other useful tools like when I play a game with build I played him completely as builds. Meaning when I was playing an engineer build I relied a lot on turrets, the only gun I had was the shotgun as I use the combination of the good old one to glue an enemy up then beat them to death with my wrench and even glue up the area around them to keep them from moving so damn much in the case the Phantoms.
    But the main point is I don't like it when in the case of masquerade I picked to be sneaky and then they throw me into something where I have no choice but to go loud like what happened in human Revolution before the director's cut I still don't understand why they give you all these nice combat goodies like this on their did and then pretty much condemn me for using them. I did see some good fortune in this when I play no killing sneak around and of course run into enemies that the game gives me the okay to kill without consequence. That's when they become really useful. But still I sometimes hate those games that condemn me for enjoying them as games. Or games where they trick you into thinking one build works just to discover oh no that's the worst thing you could have picked like if I wanted to make a melee Focus character and then run into an enemy that no matter how well I build up my character can kill me in a few hits and that I was encouraged to take them on with guns. One of the things I'm happy that they finally got rid of skills focused on guns you know regulating them to putting points will increase damage with them not accuracy and all that stuff I always found that ridiculous. At least would damage and if you properly up the enemies defense and all that s*** you make adding points to guns useful otherwise guns are good at the range you're supposed to use them at but they're not as useful as they could be had you focus on improving them and skills around them. That sort of thing. And if you want to give me the option to build up for combat add more combat related skills Human Revolution was Notorious for not doing this much along with of course the usual you just love the killing whenever you pick the kill option like they want to discourage you from killing in a game where they let you do whatever you f****** want to get the job done. I mean let's not forget that your main character Adam Jensen has a past of being a pacifist in all that s*** like they want to encourage people who want to play the character as he's presented with a o Adam Jensen would never do that. This is why I like characters who don't have squeaky clean past. This way I can play them any f****** way I want which is the point.

      in Deus Ex there are a LOT of places where swimming is useful. but you get much more use out of other skills i recommend not to master swimming but at least pair it with enviroment suit skill(forgot the name) to swim in the toxic waste areas
      there is a lot of stuff you can only get by swimming
