I wonder if Placidusax going from 5 heads to 2 is meant to be symbolic. Before that, we have perfect order; 5 being the number that the 2 and 3 fingers add up to, the number of digits on a dragon's hand, and also the number of fingers the GW bestowed on the Beastmen when it granted them intelligence. Then Bayle's attack shattered the perfect order in the Lands Between and introduced chaos, thus reducing the perfect 5 fingers/heads to 2 and making way for Shabriri to manifest in the 3 fingers.
Evolution ruined the supposed perfect order, tipping the extremely flimsy "perfect balance," this is pretty accurate from a geneological point of view, many empires lost power as their supposed perfect populations, usually extreme minorities, end up adapting to the environments and interbreeding with other groups, and those traits being claimed as better than disappearing except inban exceedingly inbred and isolated ruling class that ends up having 2 fingered claw hands and tumors instead of looking more "normal." Could all be a reference to that sort of thing, as the Crucible is life, evolution, and mutative energy at it's core, it doesnt care about Order, it is just constantly reactive to the conditions at play
I have a fond memory of my first fight with Bayle - I was determined to go through the DLC with the new dragon form, so I forced myself to defeat him early, with very few Scadutree Fragments. I finally managed it by using the Bone Bow and the Repeating Crossbow both with bleed projectiles, since those did percentage-based damage. This ranged approach meant I was highly dependent upon Igon to tank Bayle for me, but most of the time he would just monologue and walk around the arena slowly, which inspired the sequence at 50:33. Good times lol Please share some of your memorable experiences with the DLC below, I like reading them
Finding out Shadow Keep is interconnected to every other main location in The Land of Shadow was a memorable experience I won’t forget and blew my mind
I can’t remember who it was, but my favorite comment on another video was “Igon and Kendrick Lamar, Greatest Haters of the year, both with the desire to slay a drake.” And that shit kills me every day
@@masterpotato2162there’s no harm in appreciating somebody else’s quick wit or enjoying somebody else’s joy, should try it you’ll look younger longer it’s a win win.
The fact that the voice actor for Igon knew nothing of the game or characters and still gave that performance is incredible. Make him an honorary Elden Lord immediately.
Igon has been my new favorite NPC by FromSoftware because his character plot, behavior and themes surrounding him can be compared to Captain Ahab in Moby Dick, both chasing a monster that gravely wounded them and left them seeking revenge.
Bayle went to kill Placidusax and considering his strength up till then there was likely nothing that ever caused him trouble. He was sure of himself that he is going to end the dragon lord, but he met his match and was pushed to his very limits. At some point after suffering all those injuries, for the first time ever, the thought must have crossed his mind „I might not win. I might actually die here“. And for the first probably ever, he felt fear. He was not ready to win or die trying. And so he fled the fight of his life….you could say…….he Bayled. *padum tsss*
"History is written by the victor" is probably shown the best in Elden Ring, Bayle is a tyrant in the eyes of the ancient dragons..yet he has so many followers including ancient dragons. How much of a tyrant can he be if he makes people actually switch sides...
To all of the "CUUURSEE YOOOOIOU BAAAAAAAYYYYYYLLLLLEEEE's" in the comments of this video: you're doing great work, really helping the video get the engagement it deserves. Thank you for that.
One of the things that makes me think the Dragon Priestess has new motivation for serving you is that she only does so after you kill Bayle. Like she realizes in you is the chance at a new DragonLord. All she has to do is wait. If drake hearts can turn warriors even Trolls into Magma wyrms. Who is to say what Bayle's heart will do to you? Perhaps you shall be an even greater dragon than her lord.
@@franacha the Elden Lord of unmatched power no less. One who has the ability to defeat 2 direct agents of the Greater Will and all previous *and* new Elden Lords. not to mention even the lord of frenzied flame whose mere awakening struck fear into an entire civilization
One of my favorite things that Vaati does for these lore videos, and something I always look forward to, are the thematic and lore-centered builds he makes for them. I’m always asking, what’s the fashion gonna be? The weaponry? The vibes? And I really like this Drake Warrior, the jar shield goes with the Euporia so well in terms of color and texture. And the DK Longhaft axe is probably the sexiest axe in the game (sorry Godfrey, love you fr bro).
A theory of mine is that if we look at the way Placidusax's heads are clamped on to the Bayle's back, it looks like Bayle only bit one off during combat and Placidusax was trying it's hardest to prevent Bayle from escaping by constricting Bayle with all the other heads biting onto him which ended up with Placidusax's anger combined with sheer force of Bayle's hatred and will to live resulting in Bayle dragging Placidusax's hardly locked two heads during getting away and ripping them off in the process. Another thing I find cool is that forever clamped down heads of Placidusax on Bayle's back symbolizes how he is constantly getting bothered by the forces Placidusax created just to get rid of him and his descendants.
I kind of feel bad for Bayle. He was just trying to gain some honor for himself that Placidusax and the ancient dragons denied him. We know how messed up the world is due to the Greater Will, and Placidusax straight up abandoned Florissax for something as trivial as falling asleep, which was done through no fault of her own. Is he really that great a guy? Or is he as problematic as Marika, proving that Bayle was right all along?
Assuming the heads are still alive and sentient, do they ever get into arguments with Bayle? Like, Bayle is trying to nap, but one of the heads just starts humming an annoying sitcom thene song
@@davidhong1934 "bayle?" "Go away." "Baaaayle?" *sigh* "WHAT." "Do you think you could use your lightning to perfectly cook a chicken?" *agonized yell of annoyance*
I honestly thought Placidusax was the only big dragon fight they were giving us in Elden Ring. When I first saw the Jagged Peak in the distance I thought to myself "I know there won't be an epic dragon in this dlc but if there was, that's where we'd fight it". I remember seeing the vista of the peak as I approached a lonely shack by the edge of a cliff. This shack being home to a ghost that spoke of vengeance, and a talisman depicting the dragon who wounded the Dragonlord. The Dread Dragon whos anger causes the very mountain's molten fury to seethe beneath him. I was so glad to be wrong. Honestly a defining moment of my playthrough. What an amazing experience to discover Bayle and his story. What a titanic and unforgettable encounter.
I remember seeing the massive dead dragon on the cliff and was scared to approach it thinking it would come alive😅😅 That thing is like 5x the size of Bayle, that fight would be crazy.
There’s actually another big dragon fight at the end of Fia’s quest but it’s understandable that you missed it because for some reason ranni’s quest has a teleporter that just lets you skip a whole area lol
@MoreLoreThenThereSeems Fias litchdragon fight is my absolute favorite dragon fight in the game. The arena with Godwyns corpse and the trippy sky box is so damn awesome. I just wish it wasn't such a tedious process to fight the dragon though. Thats the only downside for me.
@@MoreLoreThenThereSeems I know about Fortissax but he's kinda lackluster so I don't count him. I like his music and arena but he's just another Ancient dragon. I wouldn't call him anywhere near the level of Placidusax. I've played this game many many times.
Ok @50:50 the epic tarnished getting absolutely WRECKED by Bayle with the shouting of Igon was so hilarious and also similar to my own battles with Bayle
12 tries before my build (Dragon scale blade, communion seal, drake warrior armor, left handed Grafted Dragon, albanoric shield, gravel stone seal, most of the Dragon Incantations (not the named versions) and then the dragon heart to make me go into a dragon form, alongside Crucible Tail (since it is like a dragon's tail in looks) all of which was a decent enough combo for the rest of the DLC before Bayle, and I hadn't reached PC yet either) to kill Bayle... and I only did so because I poise broke him and Igon promptly shot a harpoon up Bayles arse before I impaled him in the eye/head and then the Rot got him... I also went in with HP Regen, FP Regen and a decent number (All but 2 were HP) of Flasks while also having the HP Regen and HP heal tears in my physic... I left the arena with roughly 100 HP left at 60 Vigor for 1900 HP... It was glorious and I shant wait until NG+ allows me to return to feed upon the First of the Drakes yet again...
My little theory about all the drakes flying outside Farum Azula is they're there as an open show of defiance. That no matter what Placidusax and his dragons do, the drakes will never be fully eradicated. And what better place to display this defiance than on the dragon lords' doorstep?
It may also explain why the dragon's god fled. Even after Bayle was defeated, the blow he had struck against Order was enough to tear it apart. Placiduasax had proven unworthy to defend Order, and so could not remain Elden Lord.
it also shows the drakes HATE the ancient dragons, and for good reason. One dragon had a duel and placi had essentially lost alongside him, and got pissy and said "we genocide your entire species"
Maybe but I think it's a reverse crusade. They probably attacked the Farum azula after the greater dragons launched their assault on the jagged peak. But cant reach the dragon lord. There are also 4 greater dragons in the Farum azula, probably there to protect the dragon lord or be on his side. N they probably fight once in a while. Considering there god's nor their dragon lord is there they are probably weaker in keeping up with the massive hordes of drakes. N now that the land is vanished in the shadow realm, the drakes can't go back to their master or father bayle.
My boy Igon screaming during this fight was the best motivation I could ask, what an incredible fight! After dying six times in a row I was still thinking "COMMON MY FRIEND, WE CAN DO IT!!!!!". And, eventually, we did. RIP Igon, I wish you could be there to motivate me through the entire game. lol
i just love the use of accents in this game. Welsh for Carians (including albinaurics), received pronounciation for marika's bloodline (melina, malenia, morgott etc), northern/working class accents for tarnished (unfortunately does play into the stereotype/trope of working class accents being contrasted against regal, holy, posh accents) and now the european accent of Florissax which conveys her nature as a dragon - her accent conveys her nature as a being unique and separate from mankind, whereas all the humanoids have some form of british accent, the ancients dragons have european ones. i also love the way she pronounces "placidusax".
My time with Igon was a blessed one. I love how he’s introduced as this guy just moaning in despair. Then we stumble across two dragons fighting each other. If your first instinct is, “Neat. I’ll kill ‘em both,” you’re rewarded for your efforts with a hearty chuckle from Igon alerting you to his presence. I remember looking around like, “Who is laughing at me?” So after killing those dragons, I walk over to Igon to see what the hell this dude is laughing at. He compliments me on being a Drake warrior like himself, and tells me about Bayle. He asks that I summon him to fight Bayle because his body is broken but his spirit can be summoned to help. Just hearing how much Igon needed this kill made me break my oath of never using summons during that playthrough. My character was a cold-blooded assassin who didn’t want any help and would rather kill anybody who noticed her in the first place. No witnesses. But something about Igon’s hearty speech and deep desire to slay Bayle made me think my assassin might chuckle right there with him and agree. And OH HOLY HELL am I glad I did. “CURSE YOU, BAYLE!!!” Igon made the entire Bayle fight a million times better. We succeeded and I made sure Igon didn’t die. Best fight and best NPC.
I just wanted to comment and say I love when players give us stories of their time with the game using OCs they made. Thank you for this fellow Tarnished and True Drake Warrior!
I find it interesting that Placidusax was left with two heads as an ancient Elden Lord of gold, and Bayle carries the remaining three heads and a flame that desires to consume all 🤔 very much like the two fingers/three fingers dichotomy.
One interesting thing I haven't seen brought up about the massively dead drake near the Land of Shadows dragon communion is the fact that ancient dragons were known to use weapons. When wielding their glaives, stakes and bolts they use their five hands to wield instruments. Even more to this point, The Bolt of Gransax is actually described as a weapon whittled from Gransax's weapon, the massive one we see in Leyndell. So it's clear ancient dragon's had the capabilities to wield weapons of mass destruction, which is logical given the hands were granted to their beast-men worshippers. I also trhink the beast-man were granted just enough intelligence to practice faith and that's how the golden order made use of them, but that's a story for another day. Great video Vaati!
Florissax is one of the most complex characters in all the entire series. Through sacrifice and true dedication she fostered the growth of communion. Then, after getting stripped of everything that gave her life meaning, she comes to admire the perpetrator so much that she literally gives him her soul. Writing like this is why Dark Souls will always be one of the best in gaming history.
The fact that autocorrect is better at cursing a dragon then actually making a functional sentence has me crying omfg im dieing. I swear im fucking losing it over here.
It's fitting that the ancient dragons that sided with Bayle would wield more chaotic lightning, branching and arcing instead of forming one solid, orderly bolt
The first time I beat Bayle was so memorable for me. When I killed him and Bayle entered his death animation where he dies by striking himself with lightning, Igon sent a harpoon straight towards Bayle's face, and it was timed so well that it appeared as if his arrow was what caused the lightning strike that killed him. One last finish from Igon as he slew Bayle during his final attempt at retaliation.
Normally i want to try beating bosses by myself, or see how far i can go without help, but i couldn't stop summoning Igon for every attempt, just because he motivated me with his speech so hard. Bayle was such a cool fight, but without Igon it wouldn't have been as epic!
I realy like the aspect of the dragons' plan showcasing how differently they perceive time. To us humans such a convoluted plan would seem needlessly complicated and prone to failure, making such a wait to see it bear fruit seem unfathomable. But to Placidusax, who is immortal, it feels like only yesterday that he came up with it and put it to the test, such a wait for him and other immortal dragons is rather trivial.
Not sure you directly mentioned it, but for me I love this direct parallel between Bayle and Placidusax, and the greater will and frenzied flame. The greater will representing itself through two fingers and the frenzied flame through three. Placidusax maintaining two of his heads, Bayle splitting off and taking the other three. Placidusax trying to maintain an order, and Bayle trying to burn it to the ground. Just really cool story telling to me.
I think it's important to note that the game says Placidusax's God *was* fled, not that Placidusax's God fled. "Fled" typically means that you or someone ran away from something. One definition on Merriam-Webster says it could mean "to pass away swiftly." I'm not sure if there's some sort of translation issue from Japanese to English here, but if you heard "pass away swiftly" I'm sure you'd likely think "died quickly" or "died suddenly." However in this context I think "was fled" is more so meant to be another way of saying "was vanished." Vanishment was forced onto this god. They're not quite dead, didn't exactly leave on their own, but suddenly gone.
Bayle inflicted such grevious wounds that Placidusax was forced to go into stasis to avoid dying. Once in stasis he could no longer fulfil his role as elden lord so the god deserted him in favour of finding a new champion. He's hoping his god will return and save him but alas, he waits in vain. Bayle didn't finish the job so he couldn't claim the throne and so the age of the dragons ended and a new age began
@@shadearca because he was also very close to death? It was essentially a stalemate, neither was in a state to finish the other. Bayle limped back to the jagged peak to lick his wounds, placidusax went into stasis and created dragon communion to enact his revenge while he waited
32:36 I see this as a giant crag-blade. The center trench reads like a fuller or "Blood Groove" that you see in swords. and the thinner bit at the tip looks like the tang of a sword blade. And we've seen a weapon of this scale before as well. In Leyndell, Gransax's Bolt is of equal scale, so this looks like it was a weapon wielded by another colossal dragon.
In fact, what's the chance that Gransax himself was responsible for such a kill? We know that the ancient dragons were present on the Jagged Peak, and it's feasible that there, the Ancient Dragon servants of Placidusax were the ones who were smiting down the drakes (at least for a while). All things considered, the battle between dragons on the mountain would present an opportunity for Lansseax, Fortissax and Gransax to stack up a few kills in retaliation for Bayle's insurgence against the Dragonlord, and pop up in the timeline again. And, if in in this battle, there was the possibility for one of Bayle's greatest descendants - the unnamed colossus drake, to face one of the Dragonlord's greatest champions - Gransax, then it would provide the monstrously large ancient dragon whose size would of been needed to wield such a weapon that smote such a colossal rival. Further, It would give a younger Gransax a bit more development, with the idea that he was flying around as a champion of the dragonlord with such a weapon before, much later, he would get his hands on what would become the bolt of gransax when Placidusax eventually hid himself away.
I'm also very much of the opinion that it's not a harpoon. The groove is a fuller which is a feature to remove weight from a blade (not something necessary for spears or harpoons) and it has a tang which again is a feature typical of a sword, spears and harpoons have a cup/socket to attach them to their shaft/handle because a tang would be prone to bending or snapping the shaft when thrust with weight behind it
I don't think that's what it is. To me it seems like he's not going down peacefully, like the other bosses in their death animations that just kinda stumble over and accept their deaths. He's filled with arrogance and rage to the point that he fights to his very last breath, not stopping until he quite literally can't go on even a second more. He won't submit to placidusax, and he won't submit to you even on his deathbed.
15:43 I never really understood this logic. Isn't it possible, likely even, that the Ancient Dragons and the Hornsent see the very act of rebelling against them a betrayal? The same way a slave rises against their owner would be seen as a "betrayal" in the slaver's eyes?
Placidussax: *Leaves Guild for several years* Bayle: “Usurping it is then” Drakes and Ancient Dragons: *Go to war* Godwyn and Fortissax: *Vibing in the air before a certain night* Vyke and Lanseaxx: “Ever heard of donkey from Shrek?”
I really surprised you didn't mention the fact that Bayle's design has striking similarities to dragonkin soldiers. Not just the chin (which is identical), but the way that Bayle also uses double elemental lightning (similar to ice-lightning) and the way he explodes out his wings is exactly the same as the Dragonkin Soldier that can fly.
I love Igon's monologue during the fight because for a solid like, 30 seconds to a minute he does nothing but stand and walk slowly lmao, love it as much as patches' "assistance" during the Radahn fight, excellent video as always.
"Righteous Tarnished. Become our new lord. A lord not for gods, but for men." - My favorite NPC (yes, including Igon) He summarizes in a few words the key problem with all of these orders in the lands between, including Miquella's. The key people who lead the order have little or no regard for everyone else, and regard them as disposable pawns. Placidusax's order created and spread the process of dragon communion knowing exactly what it would do to the warriors. He was willing to throw any number of people or dragons at Bayle for all eternity. Nothing needs to be said about Marika's order. Our entire race exists to support her. Miquella considered his order to be the age of compassion. But to achieve it he was willing to brainwash a host of warriors and Radahn+Malenia, discard St Trina, use Mohg like a parts bin. For Ranni, at least we can say that she wanted to remove the external forces enslaving the people of the lands between and letting them handle themselves.
Agreed, this is a great observation, though I may add, that while noble in intention, Ranni's path to establish her order (or lack there of) was in itself riddled with the same kind of manipulations and use of people as pawns, starting with orchestrating the assassination of her own sibling and relegating him to a fate worth than death itself.
@@IkanaCanyon7to be fair she doens't wish to do it to guide some sort of new order but to leave the mortals to carve their own path, innafected by even her influence, the ends doens't justify the gruesome means tho, and in that way she and miquella aren't so different
@@bagredecartola1289 Yeah I Agree, thats basically what I was getting at. In a way, hers and Miquella's goals are perfect parallels of eachother, one wants to create her own order and take it with her so that mortals can exist without the influence of higher beings and work things out themselves, while the other wants to create an era of compassion and peace, but at the cost of everyone's free will, stripping them all off it.
Here's something that just caught my eye: The way Placidusax sits in the heart of the storm is very reminiscent of the 2 Fingers: as if he's trying to re-commune with the Greater Will and seek guidance while sundered and lost in time
Late reply. But I think you’re 100% spot on. In fact, I think Metyr in the DLC confirms this. We know that metyr is attempting to commune with a God that fled from her, a God that would be the Greater Will. Her twofinger-like tail shape represents a sort of antenna or telephone. Then, once you go back to the basegame… you find that there’s ANOTHER powerful figure under the Greater Will, who creates the exact same twofinger-like shape, who coincidently ALSO has their God fled from them. Yup, im talking about Placidusax. The fled God of Placidusax isn’t anything other than the Greater Will imo
Perhaps the drakes are circling Farm Azula searching for Placidusaxx (however the hell you spell that haha) but cannot find him since he is hidden in a space where they cannot go, drakes lacking the scales that warp time and space. Fantastic video as always! I laughed so hard at the Igon dialogue while the player gets his ass handed to him, so real haha Thanks for being you!
I had that thought, and also perhaps they want to return to Jagged Peak and to Bayle, but they can't because Marika also separated the Land of Shadow from the Lands Between. That and with Farum Azula being stuck and, I think, outside of time too, perhaps they circle because they have nowhere they can go. I mean, if I were them I'd have landed and made the place my home at the point, lol.
Exactly that's what I'm saying, I think they are there to for retribution for the greater dragons assualted on jagged peak, searching for placidusaxx. There are 4 ancient dragon in Farum Azula who probably in a way protect or put up a fight to the surrounding drakes. Now that the lands have vanished to realm of shadows the drakes can't go back either.
i don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but there is a giant trail of burned ground and grass leading up to the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion. It's pretty obvious that when you look at it, the fire that scorched the ground came from the humungous dead dragon. Aaaaand, there are also quite a lot of scorched bodies that litter the ground on the burned path.
My favourite theory is that bayle is actually the first omen, thats why all the drakes/modern dragons after him embody the aspects of the crucible like feathery wings, horns, tail, breath, maybe that’s why theyre able to absorb elements too(like borealis or smarag).
Similar to omens, sure, but I wouldn't say *actually* omens. Omens are a very specific thing, and the drakes don't really display many omen specific traits. They're closer to the misbegotten really
Bayle’s ost might be my favorite track in the entire dlc, it just does such a great job at conveying the monstrous and furious rage that is Bayle the Dread. The last little section where things seem to be winding down only for there to be one last roar of music sums up Bayle’s character perfectly, even in defeat, Bayle will not submit (this is even summed up with his incantations which state that Bayle’s vengeful spirit lingers within the body of the tarnished patiently waiting to one day take over).
Yessss!! I knew from the moment I stepped into the Jagged Peak area, that the entire Prehistoric/Dragon lore would be absolutely expanded upon and recontextualised. As soon as I found out that I was correct, I just KNEW that Vaati was going to have to revamp his dragon video that came out only mere months before the DLCs release lol
i think the "harpoon" impaling the giant drake is not a harpoon but an actual sword used by the old gods mentioned on the ancient meteoric ore greatsword item description. It even has a holding point then gets wider like a straight sword.
A new day, a new lore video by Vaati, Nothing better to scream out your mighty war cry when you see this foul dragon: *CURSE YOU BAAAAAYYYYYYLLLLEEEEE!!!!!!!!!*
@@privpi Vaati’s previous PTCs didn’t revolve around a singular character. E.G. his dung eater Prepare to Cry also had significant focus around Morgott, and his involvement in the story. If Vaati were to try an Igon/Bayle PTC, he doesn’t need to confine himself to them. E.G. the first half of the video can be the player character Dragon Communion partaker discovering the lustful hunger they have for Dragon Communion, and everything that derives from that - like dragon powers, magma wyms, etc etc. Then the second half would then move onto the WHY. Why does Dragon communion exist? Then Vaati has time to talk about the origins of Dragon Communion which would swiftly take him to Igon, Placidusax, and Bayle. Same thing can be done with an Age of Compassion Miquella Prepare to Cry. Vaati doesn’t have to confine himself to the DLC. He can take us on a journey through there basegame, the details we learn about Miquella’s ambitions, and THEN move into the DLC with him enacting his plans with enough content between both Basegame and DLC to fulfil a PTC
I’ve got a theory that Placidusax was Lord before the schism of the 2 & 3 Fingers. I think there was an original 5 Fingers, the hand of the Greater Will matching the 5 heads of the dragon. Upon his… not defeat, but lack of victory over Bayle, the 5 Fingers split, possibly partially succumbing to Frenzy at this failure of their Lord. Then whoever was Placidusax’s god, panicked seeing Frenzy that can destroy gods, called down a meteor strike to try to destroy it, and fled into hiding. The meteor blasted Farum Azula into its strange gravity well, but didn’t kill the 3 Fingers, who tried to destroy the god as it fled. The god hid underground and succumbed to its wounds, forming the Deeproot Depths and leaving behind glowing runes in the form of the Erdtree.
Just a note on Placidusax's "defeat"- If his goal was to defeat/kill Bayle, and he failed to do so, he was defeated. That is quite literally a definition of defeat. This is precisely why Malenia's claim that she "has never known defeat" is also wrong. She was sent to kill Radahn, and he yet lives. She was defeated. Defeat- To cause someone or something to fail. Definition B2 under the Cambridge English Dictionary.
This is kinda conflicted by a lot of the new finger lore, though. Metyr is way more than 5 fingers and predates the arrival of the Elden Beast star, and we learn that fingers in general are just weird aliens and they're all related to each other. Perhaps Placidusax having 5 heads was auspicious and part of why he was considered pretty smart amongst dragons, but to say he has anything to do with fingers is more of a stretch. The most we can say is that he, like most Elden Lords, may have sought their guidance - but this is not founded nor would it make sense given what we know of draconic society. There is a lot that we can't understand regarding the Greater Will and all the strange and somewhat contradictory things it sends to the Lands Between. However, we do know that at some point that all fingers no longer feel the guidance of the Greater Will. I find it more convincing that it's this lack of guidance that lead some fingers - namely three-fingers - to find other prophecies and messages. Most outer gods are discovered in desperation, after all.
@@monsieurdorgat6864The Cinquedea description specifically calling out 5 fingers as granted by intelligence and order, seems to place more emphasis on 5 specifically. Also, the lore of Metyr is contradictory to the point of containing lies. Further, from the 1st sight of her, she looks like a tumorous growth, that has grown and warped without guidance.
@@zmasterrahlg Indeed, 5 fingers and 5 heads is certainly auspicious - but we know so little and it's very easy to over-speculate compared to sticking with Occam's razor. Metyr's lore is the best we've got. We'll need to make sense of how Metyr's lore fits in with the cultures of the Lands Between before we can claim there's lies and inconsistencies that aren't pointed out. She is the mother of all Two Fingers and Fingercreepers, explicitly. How she relates to the Three Fingers remains a mystery, but Occam's razor would suggest that they're at least related. perhaps the Three Fingers were also born from comets like we see in the Finger Ruins, and not born from Metyr. Or they are born from Metyr, and the translation is bad. Some lies ARE pointed out - many NPC's allude to the fact that the Fingers no longer sense the messages of the Greater Will. But if we aren't given some hint to the discrepancy, we should not assume one.
Little half baked theory here, could the ancient meteoric blade be the arrowhead of the thing that killed the great drake? I just find the fact that we find a giant arrowhead and a giant arrow with no arrowhead a somewhat strange coincidence.
Very hard to say for a lot of reasons. The huge drake might still just have the head of whatever's piercing it still lodged inside. There's definitely something to that weapon though. I'm somewhat leaning to the idea that the Ruined Forges are not Hornsent constructions, but instead Rauh ruins that poke to the surface. All Ruined Forges have no surface entrances, and are instead forcefully burrowed into by those who want to get inside. Regardless, I think we need to figure out what these Ruined Forges are first, which will help us figure out what this sword is actually from and what "Old Gods" it's talking about. "Gods" plural also makes me think Rauh and pre-Elden Ring society, but perhaps it's intended that we can't know.
Doubt it. SUre, it's kinda arrow like, but that doesn't mean it actually was an arrow. Plus, the scale is WAY off. Then the material. Nothing about the thing in the dragon suggest anything meteoric, nothing in the lore gives a good reason why they would specifically use a meteor weapon, plus you're assuming it's an arrow in the first place, when a harpoon seems much more likely given all the other harpoons and even from the base game we get the weapon from the giant dragon in leyndell, which is the same scale and would be used by at least the same faction.
If Placidusax really had the full power of the Elden Ring, it shows Bayle is truly one powerful "lesser dragon". He may be weak when we approach him. But he made sure to show us what REAL dragon power is like. "CURSE YOU BAYLE"
Random note, I am convinced the guys behind designing Placidusax and Bayle both came off a Godzilla watching binge. Because Bayle has some serious Destoroyah aura and looks, and Placidusax is just straight up King Ghidorah.
I don't understand the reasoning behind the Omen being a "curveball from the Crucible of Life", I have to admit. They're a curse from the Hornsent. It's literally, explicitly stated by the Hornsent Granddam when you kill her before fighting/defeating the Dancing Lion. Their origins are not in the least bit unclear anymore Unless you mean the Hornsent themselves? But then why call them Omen...
yup. not everything that grows horns are ‘Omens’. Just the ones that are specifically cursed by the Hornsent people. EDIT: I want to make a corrections. Yes, the Omens we see in the basegame are a result of the Curse that the Hornsent put on the Erdtree. But I want to clarify that it’s not confirmed that the Omen curse comes FROM the Hornsent themselves… just that the Omen are a curse put upon by some special people. Omens aren’t a race, nor do they descend from any race. They are a curse
Funny enough, "curveballs" could probably describe all other Crucible creatures except for the Omen, who were plagued with nightmares and tainted blood in addition to their bodies. All others seem to be random emergences or descendants of Crucible creatures.
This is probably true, although it doesn't really undermine the points Vaati made later. Maybe a better way to think of it is that the Omen curse was fashioned with the power of the crucible, since it still manifests in the ways that the crucible does. You could even consider it a dark twisting of the crucible - horns that grow fast and painfully and dangerously rather than cleanly and specifically like on normal Hornsent. He was also more just saying that the Crucible, being a magical version of the forces of evolution, alters all life on the planet spontaneously. This is an interesting consideration, since it's antithetical to the stasis of Ancient Dragons but also the Golden Order. I like this theory that the Crucible is an indigenous force of the Lands Between, while Order is something more alien.
@@HeevaEgo the omens arent even really a "curse" they get EXTREME power. Realistically if morgott wanted to actually fight us smartly, he'd use clones. His strength comes from what he makes, and thats why he has an impenetrable fortress. Radahn is strong, but in a fight against a godfrey clone and morgott? he's outmatched. Thats why morgott was the most powerful, is that he could cause every fight to be a 1 v 2 at minimum.

3:23 i think this part is not a coincident. Queen Marika and all the following Elden Lords are all human in form, on way or another. so it could be that the cosmic essence of the elden beast tries to mimic whatever is the dominant life form, maybe in an attempt to make it not so alien to its vassals.
But neither Marika nor any of the lords comes from the greater will, and the elden beast didn't change to a humanoid form for her. Queen Marika is human in form and has human lords because she herself is (kinda) human. (Not 100% sure if the shamans are actually considered humans or just look like that, but my point still stands). Marika isn't a creation of the greater will, and I thin it's nothing absurd for her to pick a lord that is like herself.

I personally like to think that drakes/mortal dragons have evolved to hunt each other, due to the baby drakes in dragonbarrow not dropping dragon hearts, having smaller horns, and lacking fire breath, they're young and recently born. Maybe when they reach a certain age they grow the longer, piercing horn to hunt their kin and extract trace amounts of gravel stone, developing fire breath, (and maybe extending their lifespan) possibly leading to them growing and becoming like greyoll and the nameless giant dragon in a final lifecycle stage to produce a litter (greyoll drops 5 hearts, so either its a freak mutation or they have killed) Additionally the description for dragon communion flesh (which is crafted from sharp gravel stone, which mentions "ancient" dragons that consume their lesser kin) says that it is AN IMITATION OF DRAGONSCALE FLESH, which drops from jagged peak drakes and mentions "aged dragons", maybe ancient/aged really means older, drakes that have hunted more of their kin and thus gained far more gravel stone, one of the jagged peak drakes is even attacking another drake, perhaps in a form of hunting. So baby drake --> adult with horn --> develop dragon heart & fire breath from killing drakes and getting gravel stone --> kill more --> become big from it and produce a huge amount of baby dragons Or maybe im reading way too much into the horn on dragons, either way I personally believe that the jagged peak is a cesspool of cannibalism for the drakes to grow strong and mature
its most likely that dragons evolve through the devourment of eachother, but dont need to. Its most likely that devouring an older drake grants them the power the drake held. Or atleast remnants, so drakes would eat eachother to grow stronger.

Super interesting thought. I can totally see this
That’s an excellent catch and I think you are exactly right.
Thats something Vaati should catch up it fits so good with the Midra video
Evolution ruined the supposed perfect order, tipping the extremely flimsy "perfect balance," this is pretty accurate from a geneological point of view, many empires lost power as their supposed perfect populations, usually extreme minorities, end up adapting to the environments and interbreeding with other groups, and those traits being claimed as better than disappearing except inban exceedingly inbred and isolated ruling class that ends up having 2 fingered claw hands and tumors instead of looking more "normal." Could all be a reference to that sort of thing, as the Crucible is life, evolution, and mutative energy at it's core, it doesnt care about Order, it is just constantly reactive to the conditions at play
nah. He fought with Bayle while having only 4 heads. He lost his first head some time ago before.

I like to imagine that Bayle killed Plasidusax’s 2 heads by strangling them like a muskrat strangling a snake.

I remember seeing the massive dead dragon on the cliff and was scared to approach it thinking it would come alive😅😅
That thing is like 5x the size of Bayle, that fight would be crazy.
I got the talisman ahead of time and was like ho leeeee I hope we don't have to fight that

The Tarnished really goes from maidenless to marrying a goddess and having a dragon lady sidepiece.
Ok @50:50 the epic tarnished getting absolutely WRECKED by Bayle with the shouting of Igon was so hilarious and also similar to my own battles with Bayle

It’s just a part of the fight at this point. I’ll always give my bro Igon his revenge even if I get tired of hearing him yelling every time I die haha
Behold, a true drake warrior! (while getting smashed into the ground).
Their way of saying "you can't get rid of me bitch"
it also shows the drakes HATE the ancient dragons, and for good reason. One dragon had a duel and placi had essentially lost alongside him, and got pissy and said "we genocide your entire species"
Makes no sense because the ancient dragons that remain would smoke them
Maybe but I think it's a reverse crusade.
Fun fact, in the files Igon is labeled as "dragon communion Ahab", making it clear that he is inspired by the famous captain from Moby Dick.
Hail of harpoons checks out

i just love the use of accents in this game.

My first fight with bayle in a nutshell
@@theunknowman12same 😭
My time with Igon was a blessed one.
I love how he’s introduced as this guy just moaning in despair. Then we stumble across two dragons fighting each other. If your first instinct is, “Neat. I’ll kill ‘em both,” you’re rewarded for your efforts with a hearty chuckle from Igon alerting you to his presence. I remember looking around like, “Who is laughing at me?”
So after killing those dragons, I walk over to Igon to see what the hell this dude is laughing at.
“CURSE YOU, BAYLE!!!”
Igon made the entire Bayle fight a million times better. We succeeded and I made sure Igon didn’t die. Best fight and best NPC.

I find it interesting that Placidusax was left with two heads as an ancient Elden Lord of gold, and Bayle carries the remaining three heads and a flame that desires to consume all 🤔 very much like the two fingers/three fingers dichotomy.
... Holy shit I didn't even make that connection... Oh well its a sign the Greater Will MUST want me to unleash Chaotic Frenzy for NG+'s ending...

Yeah and to counter Plaxidusac's genocidal plan, Bayle's Drake just outbreed their stone counterpart.
@@DjDolHaus86 That is headcannon, we know that Bayle ran away and never returned. If the Dragonlord was so close to dying why flee?
The groove is a fuller which is a feature to remove weight from a blade (not something necessary for spears or harpoons) and it has a tang which again is a feature typical of a sword, spears and harpoons have a cup/socket to attach them to their shaft/handle because a tang would be prone to bending or snapping the shaft when thrust with weight behind it
Anyone notice how Bayle actually doesn't die by you but kills himself by lightning? Such a good detail
Placidussax: *Leaves Guild for several years*
Bayle: “Usurping it is then”
Drakes and Ancient Dragons: *Go to war*
Godwyn and Fortissax: *Vibing in the air before a certain night*
Vyke and Lanseaxx: “Ever heard of donkey from Shrek?”
Don’t forget about Florissax
I really surprised you didn't mention the fact that Bayle's design has striking similarities to dragonkin soldiers. Not just the chin (which is identical), but the way that Bayle also uses double elemental lightning (similar to ice-lightning) and the way he explodes out his wings is exactly the same as the Dragonkin Soldier that can fly.
Time for the Igon spam in comments, sorry in advance lol

"Righteous Tarnished. Become our new lord. A lord not for gods, but for men." - My favorite NPC (yes, including Igon)
He summarizes in a few words the key problem with all of these orders in the lands between, including Miquella's.

Here's something that just caught my eye:
The way Placidusax sits in the heart of the storm is very reminiscent of the 2 Fingers: as if he's trying to re-commune with the Greater Will and seek guidance while sundered and lost in time
Oooooh shiiit
Exactly that's what I'm saying, I think they are there to for retribution for the greater dragons assualted on jagged peak, searching for placidusaxx. There are 4 ancient dragon in Farum Azula who probably in a way protect or put up a fight to the surrounding drakes. Now that the lands have vanished to realm of shadows the drakes can't go back either.
I really appreciate that you showcased how Igon just stands there yelling at Bayle while the Tarnished gets thrashed.
Igon gives the same energy as Gyoubu Masataka Oniwa
He really does, yeah! Only this time, the madman is on YOUR side :D

Curse you Bayle!! But also, love that he took off Placidusax's tail trying to get that weapon, truly does have the echoes of DS1 in him
Nice catch, I didn’t think about that
i don't know if anyone mentioned this yet, but there is a giant trail of burned ground and grass leading up to the Grand Altar of Dragon Communion.
They're closer to the misbegotten really
pretty cool!
“What could possibly be more lowly in this hierarchy than the Tarnished?”
Actual corpses seeking recognition:
We have a cardboard baler at work and sometimes I’ll yell out “CURSE YOU BAYLE!” And no one ever gets it.
I am contractually obligated to say "CURSE YOU BAYLLLLLE"
I actually have four of your displates on my wall currently, one of them is the dragon one you showed here. I love them all.

I assumed Senessax was afraid of facing Bayle instead of being allied to him
I’ve never done the Bayle fight without Igon. He’s the only NPC summon that BEGS you to call him in. I just can’t deny him his revenge.
There's something so intensely cool about the fact that dragon communion was invented to take out this guy, _specifically_
"BEHOLD A TRUE DRAKE WARRIOR" *Cuts to you being thrown around by Bayle*
That part KILLED ME

Oooooooh so Miyazaki wanted his own Tiamat VS Bahamut!
He just inverted the roles.
This is making me realize how much I desperately need an Elden Ring Prepart To Cry movie for Igon and the entire Bayle quest line.
I don't think the questline is long/expansive enough for that. It's overall a very simple questline when you look at it in its entirety.
@@privpi it can make for a short half-hour movie
15:12 No way my beautiful lizard queen is racist 😭😭
Interesting to note as you mentioned the Cinquedea: in Italian, cinque (pronounced ching-kwe) means five, and dea means goddess.
Just a note on Placidusax's "defeat"-
If his goal was to defeat/kill Bayle, and he failed to do so, he was defeated. That is quite literally a definition of defeat. This is precisely why Malenia's claim that she "has never known defeat" is also wrong. She was sent to kill Radahn, and he yet lives. She was defeated.
Defeat-
To cause someone or something to fail.
@@Zed-gj8vqBayle attacked Placidusax and fled without killing him. I don’t think that counts as a defeat.
@@privpi the description of the weapon says it's the tip of a great arrow fired by the gods
I love the theory that Bayle was so hot he melted his time bending immortality scales.
I didn’t think about it right now but bayle is definitely an omen. Like him next to mohg is so similar.

Their origins are not in the least bit unclear anymore
Unless you mean the Hornsent themselves?
I really am impressed with the little title card item descriptions. The quality of your videos somehow always keeps increasing. Truly superb.

Also CURSE YOU, BAYLE
The synergy between the characters in your custom battles is incredible. It’s like they were meant to fight together.

I personally like to think that drakes/mortal dragons have evolved to hunt each other, due to the baby drakes in dragonbarrow not dropping dragon hearts, having smaller horns, and lacking fire breath, they're young and recently born.
Maybe when they reach a certain age they grow the longer, piercing horn to hunt their kin and extract trace amounts of gravel stone, developing fire breath, (and maybe extending their lifespan) possibly leading to them growing and becoming like greyoll and the nameless giant dragon in a final lifecycle stage to produce a litter (greyoll drops 5 hearts, so either its a freak mutation or they have killed)
Additionally the description for dragon communion flesh (which is crafted from sharp gravel stone, which mentions "ancient" dragons that consume their lesser kin) says that it is AN IMITATION OF DRAGONSCALE FLESH, which drops from jagged peak drakes and mentions "aged dragons", maybe ancient/aged really means older, drakes that have hunted more of their kin and thus gained far more gravel stone, one of the jagged peak drakes is even attacking another drake, perhaps in a form of hunting.
So baby drake --> adult with horn --> develop dragon heart & fire breath from killing drakes and getting gravel stone --> kill more --> become big from it and produce a huge amount of baby dragons
Or maybe im reading way too much into the horn on dragons, either way I personally believe that the jagged peak is a cesspool of cannibalism for the drakes to grow strong and mature
its most likely that dragons evolve through the devourment of eachother, but dont need to. Its most likely that devouring an older drake grants them the power the drake held. Or atleast remnants, so drakes would eat eachother to grow stronger.
God, the actor for Igon went so delightfully far overboard.
THAT is how you do camp! You go so hard that the audience can't help but respect the commitment.
