Krispy Kreme donuts - many an Irish person would have seen these on tv growing up, or had them when they were on holidays - but those days are over! Krispy Kreme finally decided to open up shop in Ireland, with their first store popping up in Blanchardstown, Dublin. Having heard so much about the donuts in question, we decided to see what our Irish People thought. Check it out!

When Krispy Kreme opened its first store in New York there were several hundred people waiting in a line stretching down the block. Hours later they had sold a weeks worth of donuts and the line was growing. It was discussed on the news, social media, people went crazy.

Growing up in Atlanta, if the "Hot Donuts Now" sign was on when we drove by, we HAD to go in and get one - tradition glazed only. Yum.
I'm pretty sure they offer the richest donuts of any US donut chain. They offer fewer varieties than their competitor, but they do have a neon light in the windows of their shops that tell you when a fresh batch is available.

The first time you grab a fresh Krispy on the way to the waffle house is lifechanging.
I live about 5 minutes from the original Krispy Kreme in Winston Salem NC and I can confirm that when that red light comes on and you get them right out of the oven it's as if you tasted something directly from Heaven!!! They literally melt in your mouth... Sadly you can down a good 4 of them before you realize it..I blame them for a good 10 Lbs...lol

The plus side is that Krispy Kreme has expanded quite a bit in Ireland since this video. Judging by the locations Google Maps pulls up, you'd have to live somewhere really out of the way like Letterkenny to be more than an hour away from one of their locations. These days, they have locations in Cashel, Cork, Naas and Galway, with a total of NINE different locations in the wider Dublin area. Truly, this is a golden age for Irish donut appreciation.
As an irish immigrant in the US, I can tell you with CONFIDENCE that the Blanchardstown Krispy Kreme is no where near as good as the real deal. Murica🇺🇸🦅🇺🇸🦅

Little known fact; Krispy Kreme started in Greensboro, North Carolina. I got Krispy Kreme everytime I would visit my grandparents down there as a boy. Seeing these fine Irish lads and lasses enjoy this Southern treat from my childhood is quite satisfying . . . .

I remember the first time I tried a KK donut. I saw it and thought the same as these people did, what’s the big deal? Then I tried it. The experience was indescribable! And the fact was, it WAS AN EXPERIENCE! I didn’t just eat a donut, I had an awakening! I had never in my life had a donut that was so perfectly sweet, perfectly fluffy and perfectly chewy. It was divine!

A long time ago, I used to go out drinking on weekends. There was a 24 hour Krispy Kreme not too far from my house. Round about midnight or so, me and whoever I was drinking with would slide in there and wait for the fresh donuts, right out the oven.
Warm Krispy Kreme donuts with a cup of hot coffee.....Pretty much heaven on Earth.
I'm so grateful that I Do Not have a Krispy Kreme Doughnut shop near my home. I thank God every day! If I did have one close by, I would be in it buying doughnuts and eating them every single day of my life, and I would probably weight 300 pounds and have heart disease. I absolutely love them.

Krispy creme used to be so much more popular when I was a kid but all the ones by me closed and it was about 10 years before I saw one again when I moved for college. Now as luck would have it a year ago one opened up right down the street from my house, lucky me!

Yeah, I was in the same boat as her, as so many other places completely miss the mark when it comes to plain glazed donuts. I wasn't expecting much either when I got my first KK glazed, but I was completely blown away. Like Dermott says, it's the perfect donut.

When I was a kid growing up in Va. Beach, a group of us kids would go and play Putt-Putt (miniature golf) on a Sat morning for $ 0.75 from 9-12 noon (yes, I’m that old) There was a Krispy Kreme donut shop right across the street and we would play until the red Hot sign came on and then we would run across the street to eat hot donuts until whomever parent came to pick us up. Good times indeed. 🍩
