I used to go almost every year and miss this city. It was nice seeing your video, it brought back memories. There is so much to see in Zacatecas, this was only a fraction of this wonderful city.
I somehow feel a lot of opportunities were missed here in Zacatecas and not entirely sure if it was the pandemic alone. 1)Ate is a fruit compote/jelly/paste. The most common ones are membrillo (quince--also popular in Europe and near east) and guava or in Spanish guayaba. My aunts and grandmother used to make the quince version regularly--very good on bread. 2) Zacatecas was early on the 2nd largest Spanish urban center in New Spain after Mexico City. It was only decades later eclipsed by other cities in New Spain (Mexico). Aguascalientes the state was once part of the state of Zacatecas until President Santa Anna partitioned it away in a squabble. 3)Zacatecas was one of the most important mining centers in New Spain (Mexico)--more important than Guanajuato. It produced a lot of the silver sent to Spain. Mining was on the decline most of the 20th century, but modern industry has revived mining around the state. As a result Mexico still remains the top silver producer in the world along with a number of other minerals mined by Mexican, American, Canadian, and Swedish companies. 4) You missed a very emblematic tour of the Mina el Eden--one of the most well known historic mines (now defunct) in the city. Its accessible from the Teleferico (the first one in the world to bisect a city). You get an idea of how the miners lived, why it was shut down, and there's a geological and minerals museum inside 5)You missed the museum atop the Bufa hill dedicated to the Mexican Revolution (city was taken by Pancho Villa), and the mausoleum to the states illustrious men. You also missed other museums in the environs including a former convent with the best religious artworks in Mexico--Zacatecas was a major religious center full of monasteries and convents. Its charter given by King Phillip of Spain, it became known as the "civilizing city of the north" because it sent colonists, conquistadors, and clergy to establish northern Mexico cities, Asia Pacific, and in the U.S. southwest including what is Santa Fe and Albuquerque New Mexico. the Goitia Museum and Pedro Coronel Museum (which houses works by Chagall, Dali, and Picasso). 6) You missed visiting the lovely Teatro Calderon--a very nice theater.
Also the city was founded in 1548--one of the earliest in Mexico by the Spaniards. I also forgot--VISIT the Hotel Quinta Real its a former colonial era bull ring converted to a luxury hotel and events center. The Zacatecas aqueduct is in the back--one of the major colonial era aqueducts in Mexico alongside Morelia's, Queretaro's, and Mexico City.
Historic Center of Zacatecas City, wonderful!!. One of the 35 World Heritage Sites recognized by UNESCO in Mexico. BTW Mexico has the largest number of these in the Americas. Cheers!
Good episode! Hope you gave the blind guy in the walker a goodly amount. He had a beautiful if sad song. I am learning here in Mx how we help each other along. as go about our days. Cool country .
Hello My dear friend did you check that place in Zacatecas, Mexico? Is it impossible safe to go there, so you didn't talk them when you visit to Mexico?
* Interesting note: Membrillo can be spread on bread and can also be put in little fried pies; at least in South America such is the case. You can find that 'membrillo' or 'dulce de membrillo' is relatively common from México to Argentina and Chile. Not sure about Brazil though.
Looks beautiful ! We are Vegan and hope to retire in 3 years, probably in San Cristobal. We do wonder how difficult it may be to find Vegan meals. But, there is always rice n beans and fresh squeezed juice.
Hey, Brother!.....Just a quick little grammatical tip: Even though the letter "Z" exists in the Mexican alphabet, the "Zee" pronunciation is not like the US, you pronounce it like you do an "S".
Zacatecas and Aguascalientes are the center of Mexico .Both are 1300 kilometers of Tijuana and 1250 kilometers of Playa del Carmen QR. But the people call us " Bajio " 😝 And the people like to be called themselves that they lived on the center of Mexico .But they are located 750 kilometers of Guatemala Border and 1500 kilometers of Tijuana they are definitely South but they like to say that they live on Central Mexico .I mostly think that there are political reasons but they saying that are geographical reasons for it .
PINK LIMESTONE, not in Mexico. This is the ubiquitous CANTERA, and rose-orange is one color. ALSO: You're walking on it. (Mexican Baroque, Ultra Baroque or Baroque Churrigueresco)
aducarte.weebly.com/uploads/5/1/2/7/5127290/canter%C3%ADa.pdf see page 10 and 11. Pink limestone "cantera rosa" is ubiquitous to Zacatecas. While limestone specifically is "caliza" I was giving a translation into English for "cantera" which would work and we would say pink limestone
Babe I’m from Zacatecas and almost died because my parents didn’t understand I couldn’t stomach meet, trying to get vegetarian food there is like trying to get water in the Sahara desert
Nice video. SLOW DOWN when speaking Spanish. It's Ca-yeh-HONE. You're saying it, but it's unclear. (walky-talky isn't a good thing. Happens to me, too.)
I'm going to Zacatecas next week! Pretty stoked.

Lips dry out there because it is also super high elevation, water evaporates very quickly with less air pressure
What’s the name of the song at the end?
Vegetarian for health or for the animals ?
