Gracias por tu visita ,Zacatecas es hermoso desafortunadamente estamos viviendo tiempos muy difíciles espero en Dios esto termine pronto y que nuestros hermanos extranjeros puedan disfrutar con tranquilidad nuestro bello México thanks
Zacatecas is well worth the visit for its history and arquitecture, and use of cantera pink stone. It was the first colonial Mexican city named a UNESCO world heritage site (and best preserved for many years). It was the 2nd largest city early during the colonial period (its charter given to it by King Philip II of Spain), and one of the most important ones, as its where most of the silver was produced for the Spanish Empire at various points during the 1600s. Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende get more press, but Zacatecas was the original silver city and UNESCO site. Has been nicknamed the Athens of Mexico. Zacatecas was also the first city in Latin America to employ the teleferico/Swiss cable car, and was actually the first in the world to bisect an entire city (as opposed to a ski village or town). Also has a beautiful theater. It has a number of impressive museums for a virtually unknown city by international tourists from the well curated Eden Mine and natural history musuem, to Pedro Coronel, Goitia, etc. some of whom house Dali, Picasso, Kandinsky works. Also a museum of the Mexican Revolution battle which took place there (Toma de Zacatecas), and a mausoleum of illustrious figures atop the Bufa Hill. Also the cathedral, and a number of churches and convents dating between 1500s-1800s. It was one of the largest religious and religious art centers in colonial Latin America. Its also the city with the best preserved aqueduct from the colonial era in Mexico and one of 3 of the best known cities for this alongside Queretaro and Morelia. The nearby town of Jerez is also beautiful and historic which is why its a Pueblo Magico (Magical town). Very little was scratched here. But I do understand people are afraid. I partly grew up nearby Jerez, and at one point not more than 15 years ago, Zacatecas was one of the safest states in Mexico. Unfortunately the biggest cartels in Mexico are in neighboring states of Jalisco and Sinaloa, and Zacatecas is right in the middle of these 2, making it a very recent battleground. People from other states have made it this way today. I do know family lives there still and my brother visits regularly. I would recommend the city for its rich history, culture, and arquitecture. Its just nowadays one has to keep in mind, its no longer the carefree area it once was, which is sad.
A lot of folks don't know Mexico actually pretty much influenced that wild wild west American theme/look. Mexican vaqueros/charros heavily influenced American cowboys once northern Mexico became southwestern United States from Texas through, New Mexico, to California and more. The Rodeo actually originated in Mexico, along with bull riding, and lassoing/roping all having it's roots in Mexico.
Yes the wild Wild West theme is so strong here! We kept photographing the men on horseback, and our guide thought it was funny because it’s an everyday thing in this part of Mexico.
@@RunTheAtlas Wow! That’s awesome to hear. Northern Mexico from Sinaloa, Sonora, Nuevo León, and other northern states is huge on the cowboy or ranching lifestyle it’s embedded in Mexican culture from the music down to the classic Mexican ranchera movies and the over-dramatic western/ranchera Mexican soap operas that my mother loves so much lol.
My mom was from Zacatecas an we went several time as I was a teenager and I remember loving how beautiful it was there but I was still to young to appreciate it …. Now I wish I could go back
I was lucky to be born in Zacatecas. I loooove Zacatecas city. It is an architectural gem which is on part with European towns. I actually love the fact that there is not a lot of international turism. Turists are sometimes annoying to locals anywhere in the world. We zacatecanos are not very friendly with strangers unlike other parts of Mexico. We are kind of known for being cold. Zacatecas is magical.. especially at night.
Zacatecas is way bigger than San Miguel de Allende, not to mention more important. It's the capital of a whole state, and it was the economic powerhouse of Spanish North America
Zacatecas is a hidden gem where the majority of the tourists are Mexicans from other parts of Mexico, and Americans with Zacatecan roots, like myself. I think the media plays a big role in diminishing the number of tourists that visit Zacatecas, because of the cartel war happening an hour north of the City. The reality is it's pretty safe in general and even safer if you're an American, because it's bad business for the cartel's to mess with Americans and tourists. This is true for all of Mexico. The violence that is happening in the northern part of the state is between belligerent cartel members and you don't hear about bystanders becoming victims. The City of Zacatecas, Zacatecas is safe to travel and one of the most beautiful places in Mexico to visit, and I highly recommend it. The best times to visit are during the festivals, such as the Folk Dancing festival during the last weekend of July or whenever Holy Week occurs in the Spring. Oh, and if you're travelling with a large group, I would recommend contracting a "callejoneada." It's a unique tradition where a live band plays tamborazo and stops at several plazas for it's guests to dance in. You'll have a donkey or mule carry some delicious mezcal for participants to drink along the way. It's so much fun and no other City has this tradition.
Is not a smaller version of San Miguel, Zacatecas has most architecture, the cathedral is the most important barroco churrigueresco building in Mx. And you can also find a lot of museums, if you like art you will enjoy it a lot. And we have a very interesting Archaeological site.
I've lived fulltime in mexico 26 yrs been to Zacatecas a couple times , amazing city , might have been my fav till I visited Guanajuato. Street eating galor, love walking around looking at the amazing architecture. Super cheap, cant believe you didnt mention the Eden Mine , I actually toured the mine twice it was that good. Just drop yourselves again in mid July through August, there is an International Folklore Festival. You may see dances from other parts of the word, as well as native. Lots of tourists, especially European and Mexican. And a lot of untold stories at every old building. I love walking at the city centre in a rainy afternoon, having a good look at the European-style buildings. At the Bufa, the scent of Petrichor and country flowers, moss and a mix of trees (mountain pine, fir, and the imported pirul - from Peru - and eucalyptus). Zacatecas state has the oldest human prehistoric settlement ever found (to date), dating from 30 000 years ago (Chalchihuites, look at Nature journal). About the Bufa: it was going to be called Montserrat, because of its resemblance to the sierra of the same name near Madrid, Spain. There is another nearby mountain, Cerro de la Virgen, which is quite interesting for mountain biking. And another one - which I haven't visit yet - Mount Teyra. North Zacatecas state is rather different from the south. Jerez is the way to Jalisco state, with beautiful alpine natural sceneries. And many archaeological sites to visit (if you find something, that belongs into a local museum!) The downside of Zacatecas: there are no opportunities for young people (professional graduates in technological areas). Drivers do not ever follow the rules. Weather has turned too dry. We used to have hail at July, and snow once during Dec-Jan at the highest peaks. We have had a lot of rain last July, after a long draught (years). So, for the USA stores part, we have also Carl's Jr. McDonald's, Burger King, Walmart, Sam's Club, City Club, Domino's Pizza, Little Caesar's, Pizza Hut, and more but to go there you have to move out of downtown (Centro Histórico) and actually we have 5 Starbuck's Coffee stores hehehe
I'm so glad you came here, but you left some places like Galerías (the mall) La Encantada park, Arroyo de la Plata park, Guadalupe City downtown (Guadalupe is the city at the east to Zacatecas, part of Zacatecas Metropolitan Area)
Thank you for visiting my beloved town. If you came in September, most likely, you would also enjoy the Fiestas Patria. The whole month of independence celebration.
Outside of Coatepec Veracruz Zacatecas is a great place to visit. One must go during Holly week (Easter) First week is all about Christ, week two is all about Music. I do love Zacatecas and for 14$US a night with a kitchen I can stay a month. To bad you missed La Leyenda, it's a eclectic Museum restaurant. Also the Pulque is superb.
My fronds and I have car travel 3 times from Nogales Sonora to Zacatecas, and found great places along the way. But my favorite is Zacatecas because of the weather in the summer and inexpensive cost to visit.
Back in late 90’s early 20’s there was an influx of young people, college kids from the USA and Europe visiting Zacatecas; I was shocked considering Zacatecas is about churches, museums, cafes and nightclubs; I wondered what appealed to them in Zacatecas instead of the beach. I find my hometown amusing but to me you don’t have much fun around there unless you’re from there.
I'm from and live in Zacatecas and we're not used to get tourists on September, for the most part we receive them during April and Summer (mostly Mexicans from other states), but the number has gone down since the reputation the state has though. Oh and you also were here during FENAZA (National Fair of Zacatecas), did your tourist guide tell you or offer you to go there? I'm just curious lol.
Thanks for sharing!! He didn’t tell us about the Fair, but we saw a festivity near the church with the Matlachin dance. Our guide told us about the Morismas de Bracho festivity. We also saw fireworks on the weekend!
Zacatecas is a beautiful colonial city! People are beautiful inside and out! Like for real! Unfortunately, Zacatecas receives a lot of bad rap due to what is going on with organized crime. What people must understand is that Zacatecas is an entire state the size of South Carolina and it is not fair to lump the reputation and crime stats of an entire state into one city. It's like lumping all the crime stats of California into just the city of Los Angeles. Anyhow, all I want to say is take what you hear or read about Zacatecas with a grain of salt. Still Zacatecas is the best- period!!!
Actually it is not just Zacatecas city or one city full of crime. As an example we were displaced by criminals in the southern part last year. Jerez, Zacatecas capital, Fresnillo, Tepetongo, Villanueva, Nochistlán, Pinos and other municipalities have lots of crime, our government is a piece of shit in our state and the whole country, terrorists run and rule the country were there is no justice and you know it. If you haven't suffer criminality don't lie, my car was taken at 1:30 a.m. december 17th 2022 and my wife passed out because of that, they kept displacing people for months and stealling cars from other neighbors, let the world know what is really happening. As up today there are other terrorist cartels in our land and government coaperates with them. So sorry to ruin your comment but shit like this happens in small comunitties and neighborhoods.
@@Trojasimmental-2020I really want to go to Zacatecas with my boyfriend to visit family in the summer, but I’m really scared of something happening to me since I don’t fully speak Spanish and I’ve never been to Mexico.
This is to every foreigner who wants to come: for a day here you must carry on minimum 500 pesos in cash but not just the 500 mxn bill, better have it in change like: one 200mxn bill, two 100mxn bill, a 50mxn, two 20mx, and the rest in coins (we have 10mxn, 5mxn and 1 mxn) and this amount is just for one person. To transportation: better use uber o didi, taxis aren't so bad but neither so cool... Better avoid using local taxis and buses because you can get lost, we haven't a map to see their routes, we have to memorize it.
The thing with the language here is that you can use it a lot but is commonly only known by young people like me, under 25 y.o so yup... Speak to old people in English would be struggling but to youngest it gonna be as easy as breathing
Lived in Zacatecas, Zacatecas for the last 7 years. True...there are hardly any Americans here. I might be the only one. (kek) Probably the biggest issue with Zacatecas is the violence that occurs between cartels being close to Fresnillo. I dont worry so much about being robbed as it is fairly safe, but I do worry about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. You need to be sure to practice some good situational awareness.
@@Ang.0910We just stayed at Hotel Santa Rita in Zacatecas City and loved it! Highly recommend. Felt safe walking all over historic center at all hours of the night. Correct, Zacatecas is on the US State Department “no not travel” advisory and hence there were 0 US tourists there. We saw the warnings and were able to take precautions and hired a guide during our trip. Our guide mentioned that between the pandemic and the bad publicity, it dropped tourism to a new low. The highways here connect to all parts of the US and that’s where some of the crimes happened. He also said to avoid Fresnillo. We speak Spanish and have done extensive Mexico and Latin America travel, so we felt safe during our trip. We advise other travels to research and make their own decisions: travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/traveladvisories/traveladvisories/mexico-travel-advisory.html#Zacatecas
Safer than any cesspool zombie town gang banger car jacking city in the united states but keep thinking Mexico is dangerous if it keeps foreigners away! please don't come!
If you don't consume drugs you will never have problems. I live in Canada and here I see people drigandoce every day on the street. Mexico No...Mexico is beautiful and Zacatecas is the center of Mexico, a place that was previously the quietest in the world in terms of insecurity. It is unsafe because it is the way to the south and north and everyone wants to control the center of the country.
Have you been to San Luis Potosi ? Aguascalientes ? Apart from Mexico : Guatemala ? Antigua,Guatemala ? El Salvador ? Honduras ? Nicargaua : Leon and Grandada and San Juan Del Sur ? Costa Rica ?
Antigua,Guatemala is interesting. for beaches : Roatan,Utila, El Salvador,Costa Rica,Bocas Del Toro in Panama .Aventure :Cosat Rica :arenal,Monteverde and Boquete, Chiriquei,Panama
It's beautiful! I'm a little surprised how quiet it seems there. My neighbor is from there and they are constantly partying and being loud. I was assuming it was a cultural thing because when she went home to Mexico she posted videos of everybody in the streets with fires partying all night long. It's not fun living next door to them although she is super sweet. Her husband on the other hand is one of the my least favorite people on the planet lol.
She might be from Zacatecas the state but not zacatecas de city. My family is from Jerez, Zacatecas and they party hard there, which is why I go there 😅.
The city received bad publicity following a few incidents and is still recovering. The local people are incredibly chill and helpful. As a tourist, we felt safe - but note we also didn’t go out at night. We had a guide with us for most of our trip. I recommend avoiding Fresnillo - this is the city where a lot of the crime happened. Avoid looking showy - as you can see in the video we are wearing a lot of black. No beach clothes. You must speak at least intermediate Spanish to travel here, hardly anyone speaks English.
They also have an underground disco inside one of the mines , very neat! 🪩
That is so unique! We have a reason to go back now!

It is unsafe because it is the way to the south and north and everyone wants to control the center of the country.
bro the Zacatecas flaying is BRUTAL
ain’t goin there ever
Have you been to San Luis Potosi ? Aguascalientes ? Apart from Mexico : Guatemala ? Antigua,Guatemala ? El Salvador ? Honduras ? Nicargaua : Leon and Grandada and San Juan Del Sur ? Costa Rica ?

Yeah I butchered that one 🤦♀️
It's beautiful! I'm a little surprised how quiet it seems there. My neighbor is from there and they are constantly partying and being loud. I was assuming it was a cultural thing because when she went home to Mexico she posted videos of everybody in the streets with fires partying all night long. It's not fun living next door to them although she is super sweet. Her husband on the other hand is one of the my least favorite people on the planet lol.
She might be from Zacatecas the state but not zacatecas de city. My family is from Jerez, Zacatecas and they party hard there, which is why I go there 😅.
My roots ❤ my family is here on our rancho i love it. I hate the cartels have made there way there smh scares me to visit 😢
Crazy thing Mexico has tons of colonial towns (pueblos)
What is five pesos in english?
About 25 cents
😂 🤦🏻♀️
Zacatecas is a state is it not?
It’s both a city and state!
Cartel zacatecas,is crazy
How's the crime? State department says avoid Zacatecas due to murder and kidnapping.
@@RunTheAtlasThanks!! Guide recommendation?
