    I see all these suggestions to pump every 2 hours and set up a relaxing environment to pump. What I can't figure out is how they have enough time to feed the baby, put it down to sleep, pump, clean the pump parts and bottle and sleep. Do these people have nannies that actually do the feedings and cleaning and putting the baby to bed? My husband is super supportive but he works so I am doing most feedings alone and trying to pump. How are people actually doing this on their own?

      I am in the same boat, 2.5 months pp. i am all over the place. Cooking, cleaning, trying to breastfeed , unsuccessful-give formula top ups as i dont produce enough in pumping then feed baby , put him to sleep , wash pump parts , get ready to pump again and he wakes up then try to soothe him ..get back to pumping again.. on occasions i dont even get time to shower or pee poo when i need to. Its tremendous amount of stress and hardwork

      You don’t have to wash the pump parts after every use as long as you put them in a ziploc bag in the fridge. Since it’s only breast milk the milk lasts for 4 days in the fridge.

      I’m exclusively pumping with a 2 week old. Still trying to find the groove with things but what has been working for me so far is pumping while I feed. Prop baby up a little it on a pillow or blanket to feed. Have a sterilizer and dryer helps alot with in between pump sessions.

    Just had my little one and wasn't really prepared for breastfeeding. She wasn't latching well and caused some injuries so I decided to exclusively pump. I'm so glad I found this video because it has literally eased my anxiety over the whole thing. I want my baby to have the best of everything, including her nourishment. Thank you for this video ❤️

    Thank you for making this video! Breastfeeding did not work out for me and my baby. My postpartum depression made it impossible to establish a good latch. I resorted to exclusive pumping after three miserable weeks. Exclusive pumping has been an excellent alternative so that he can still get my milk. There is a misconception that exclusive pumping is easier than breastfeeding. It’s still very much hard work but provides to be a doable options for those who just can’t breastfeed. I had to learn every single one of these tips the hard way. You are the best mama you can be no matter how your baby is fed. Be patient and your hard work will be rewarded with a smiling chubby baby❤️❤️

      Oh pumping is so much more hard work imo. Bc not only do you have to bottle feed baby but you have to breastpump too after. And if your like me it takes 45 minutes to get the milk pumped out... also its easier for baby to get out your milk then a pump

    I decided to exclusively pump about a week after my son was born! He’s 4 weeks old now. Never looked back. I love it. It can be challenging sometimes, but I love that I’m still providing him with my breastmilk but that it gives me so much flexibility and easier on me. I’m still learning, but so far I’ve been really successful.

    Thank you for making this video. I’m only 4 days PP and I was only able to get him to latch the night he was born. I’ve been pumping and supplementing ever since. Took a few days to figure out my flange size was wrong and let me tell you...oh the blisters...but it’s ok. I’m still making about 1-2 oz per 15-20 min session and can honestly keep going. Trying to avoid engorgment but it’s a bit difficult. We’re getting there. Just takes figuring it out. Keep up all the hard work mommas y’all got this!

    Thank you so much for this video. I gave birth one month ago and had prepared for breastfeeding by taking a class and reading books etc, but was in no way prepared for pumping. Because of inverted nipples, low milk supply and a tongue tie, I have been exclusively pumping. Baby would get frustrated on the nipple shield because of the low milk supply and flow, so working on supply and then hopefully we will able to get him to latch again.
    I received some bad advice from my lactation consultant and said that if I needed more sleep in those first weeks to recover from birth, that it was okay to not pump in the middle of the night, but now my supply is paying for it. She also said I only needed to pump for 10 minutes, but now I have learned that 20 is the standard.
    Also I wanted to mention to women on here, if exclusive pumping ends up being your entire breastfeeding future, I would highly recommend a battery operated pump so you can move about. I am so thankful that my friend had mentioned the Willow to me. You can walk around without all the tubing and cords etc. That has been my least favorite thing this past month, being stuck to the wall for 20 minutes every 3 hours!

    • @mac0219
      @mac0219 2 роки тому +3

      I’m right there with you - my daughter will be a month old tomorrow and I’m slowly accepting that nursing isn’t going to work out. She had severe tongue, lip and cheek ties that made latching difficult and impossible to get enough milk, so I had to use a bottle to ensure she was fed enough. We had her ties released two weeks ago, but unfortunately she continues to refuse the breast. I’ve been working with a Lactation consultant and physical therapist, but no luck to get her back on the breast. It’s a stressful and exhausting time for us both as she screams and cries every time I try (sometimes for hours). Exclusively pumping is hard bc it’s double the work, but my milk supply hasn’t suffered from it in any way and I have peace of mind knowing she’s still getting my milk (and gaining weight). If it’s any consolation, I’ve spoken to many mothers (as the lack of “bonding” from not being able to nurse was upsetting me too) and every single one of them said the same thing. You will bond in other ways and while nursing can be a special time for mom and baby, it isn’t the end all be all for bonding and has it’s own set of challenges. Many of them feel “trapped” bc they are the sole source of food. At least with a bottle, you can get some help. I’m sorry you are having a hard time nursing but you are not alone and SUCH a good mom for doing what you can to keep your baby fed, no matter what that looks like for you. Xo

    I think the hardest thing I've found about pumping is constantly disassembling and washing/sanitizing pump parts. To pump every 2-3 hours is just not feasible. Any tips for that?

    • @LC05
      @LC05 Рік тому

      You could get a second or third set of bottles and flanges to help out. Then, you only wash/sanitize every 2 to 3 pumping sessions. However, you would need a very large sanitizing unit or pot for boiling of you do that. Personally, I find that my spectra parts aren't a big issue to wash and sanitize. Right after bagging the milk, I disassemble and immediately wash. Then I throw them into the sanitizer, which also has a dryer setting. Once I am ready to pump again, they have been dry and ready to go for at least an hour. Following the routine of washing and sanitizing right away had definitely been the best solution for me.

    I had a nicu baby at one of the top children’s hospitals in the nation. The lactation consultants told me to pump 8-10 times a day for 15-20 minutes only. Of course if my breasts still felt full I would massage to get most milk out but never longer than 20 minutes. Also they said drinking tons of water is a myth. Just drink when you’re thirsty. I hope This helps at least one mom out there. I would hate to have a mom pump for too long as I know the time holding your baby is precious. Just keep it to 15 mins and make sure you squeeze out the excess from your breasts after your done.

    I am a nicu mom and was planning to exclusively breastfeeding but due to unexpectedly delivering due to pre-eclampsia at 33 weeks. This information is very helpful now that i have to pump nearly exclusively. I hope to switch to breast when we go home. He just plays at breast and yet takes bottles better right now.

    Bridget, I have the spectra S1 and have been using it for about 6 months now. In the beginning of my journey I could get to about suction level 4-6 comfortably but over time I now can get all the way up to 12. Is that normal or could my pump be weakening?
    Thanks for all of your informative videos! 💜

    Thank you for all the information. I gave birth one week ago and was certain to just breastfeed my baby.... but we're having a hard time latching and I started pumping to get my supply going and him fed. Now it feels like I'm going to be stuck with pumping because there is no improvement with latching. Can you make a video on how to combine both or is that not really possible? Thank you for all your guidance!

    Hello. I’ve been breastfeeding for 5 months today. Only pumping while I’m at work. I’m worried that since I can’t visually see how much my baby is getting, that he may not be getting enough. Is it possible to start exclusively pumping this far in?

    I don’t know if I can consider myself exclusively pumping because I do still put baby at the breast occasionally but with my first two little as well as this one I’ve had supply problems...my pumping schedule wasn’t constant at first but starting about a week ago I pump every 2 hours exactly occasionally I’ll pump over an ox combined but between that I only pump a half oz combined a total of 6 oz or less a day everything else is supplemented for him I just want to be able to lower the amount of formula and eventually go back to just breast milk

    I just started my exclusive pumping as i have breast engorgement and started with a formula initially, due to which my milk supply got reduced now. Now I’m getting only 40ml per day(both breasts combined) and i have one month old baby. It’s so hard seeing this output after a day of hardwork. Is this normal?

    My baby and I have been home from the hospital for a week and I’m starting to feel like my baby doesn’t like breastfeeding anymore. She fusses a lot while I’m trying to feed her but when my husband bottle feeds her my breast milk she’s content. It’s becoming very challenging for both my baby and I to breastfeed. My milk supply is extremely high so my main concern is, can exclusive pumping decrease this? Thank you for this informative video ❤️

    My little one is just over a month old. She had to be on a high calorie formula because she wasn’t gaining and was losing weight in her first couple of weeks. I was able to get an ounce out of pumping a day in the beginning…as time went on…it was less and less to the point where I’m getting a few drops now or nothing at all. I’ve tried tea, cookies, supplements, and even tried to get her to latch and use nipple shields. Idk what to do and idk if you would have any suggestions. I have 3 different types of pumps…wireless and hands free, a hand operated one and the spectra s2. I was successful with the s2 and the hands free one for only a couple weeks and like I said, now I can’t get anything but a few drops when I hand express. My breasts never feel full and are mostly always soft, even in the beginning. It’s definitely causing me more stress and that’s definitely not helping! 😞😞

      Get him down to a diaper and don't put a blanket on him. The lactation consultant at the hospital said to keep them up you might need to make them a little uncomfortable.

    am exclusively pumping my almost 4 months old. I use the Spectra but struggle to get my morning pumps as consistently as I need to grow my supply because of work from home demands and being the primary caregiver of 2 children. I also have a 3 year old. The Elvie gives me almost no milk compared to 3-4 oz combined each pumping session from Spectra with pumping pals flanges. I have elastic nipples. I got the Spectra about 2 months pp after my Ameda Maya Joy started malfunctioning and my supply almost died up. I had better output with the momcozy S9 for about a month prior to 2 months pp but the battery died prematurely. I purchased the S12PRO but it was very painful and gave very little milk output. Any suggestions on a wearable to supplement morning pumps along with my spectra?

    My babe is already 7 weeks and I really wish I would have watched this video before he was born! I was EBF him for about the first week or 2 then it became easier to just Pump and give bottles. I don’t pump on a schedule, just anytime my nipples begin to tingle. I get about 9-12 ounces every time I pump. I probably only have about 200 ounces in my freezer stash. I definitely wish I would have watched this video first bc now I’m afraid I waited to late to let my body know how much milk baby needs.

    I would suggest using just organic food grade coconut oil for the nipples. It hidrates and heals. That's what I'm using and works much better than the lanolin cream, which just hydrates. The coconut oil won't harm the baby. It is actually one of the ingredients in formula.

    Hi everyone I am a new mother my daughter is 2.5 months old. I am exclusively pumping as my daughter refuses to nurse.
    Is it true, When we pump the milk the body doesn’t get feedback from baby and doesn’t customise the milk accordingly? Are we loosing nutrients in the pumped milk and not getting 100% benefits of breast milk?
