Thank you so much for this video! I just finished your built to birth course and my mindset towards birth has completely changed. Now at 35 weeks pregnant, I feel excited and confident about the day I get to meet my daughter at a birth center. Thank you so much Bridget! What you do is truly a gift from God for all nervous mothers out there. God bless you and your family. 🥰
Love Watching your videos. I get some new info and some confirmed info that my sister in-laws had given me with my first. I'm now 32 weeks pregnant with my second. With my first I know my body started pushing, because I couldn't stop it 😅 and I was really trying to have things go slower so that there was more time to stretch things gradually. Also I was told you can pre stretch the vaginal area to get it use to stretching larger for baby to move through. I took this advice and my husband helped me. My first was born and I had a tiny tear, but no stitches needed and it healed really fast.
Just wanted to let you know Bridget and everyone else here, I gave birth to my first without any medication in a water birth and I did everything she said. I went with my body's natural urges, I didn't push during crowning I simply took deep controlled breaths allowing my perineum to stretch. I birthed on all fours but after his head popped out I brought my leg forward into a lunge position for the next contraction then my bub popped right on out into my arms. I didn't tear at all. Was the best experience of my life. I'm currently pregnant with my second and hope and pray everything goes just as well as my first 🙌
Update: had an amazing second natural homebirth, no tearing, only two pushes, awesome experience. I highly recommend reading and practicing natural childbirth the Bradley way.
Just want to say I gave birth this past June to my first baby, naturally with no epidural, and I didn't tear 😇 I watched your videos religiously, especially during my third trimester and found them so so helpful, thanks a ton and congratulations on your pregnancy!
Just to normalize, you can do all the right things and still tear, and it's okay. I did stretching, massage, saw a pf physio for months, had a home water birth on all fours, and my babys head was 38cm and had a nuchal hand and turns out my hymen was still entact, and I had a 4th degree tear. I did eventually have to really, really push her out because there was just a hell of a lot of baby and forehead and hand in there! And you know what? It was okay. The first two weeks really sucked but I got through it, and I feel content knowing I did my best. Still going to do things the same way for my next baby
4th degree tear? If you do it again, you'll have another 4th degree tear. It happens alot. Please take alot of advice from a doctor because, a 4th degree tear is a life long problem. C section is better than a 4th degree tear.
@@LaLoon17she already has that tear. It’s better to tear like that again than to have a lasting tear and a c section scar and complications that will more than likely be very traumatic.
@@shandikrebs1575 oh no what's actually wrong with you. Your opinion is definitely terrible. It's better to tear again than a c section? Well, i hope you'll go through it then. (No doctor says that it's better to tear so badly than a c section. Do a research before commenting your stupid opinions)
Prevent tearing 1. Connect with your plevis mind body connection. Feel your pelvic floor. Strengthen it . Your uterus pushes baby out. Not ur pelvic. Make pelvic strong to help uterus. 2. Dont take the epidural 1st time momma chance of epidural and tearing is high but not impossible. DO NOT PUSH ON YOUR BACK. When you push without epidural u can feel ur body urges etc. This can also prevent tearing. 3. Push with your body urges. Called the fetal ejection reflex. This is when u want to start pushing . This can happen after 10 cm dilating. Sometimes this dilating might not trigger the reflex though because the baby isnt down enough so wait for the reflex. If u take epidural, after ur 10cm, do labouring down. This is when u waot for baby to go more down after the 10cm. 4. Birth off ur back. This closes off the pelvic outlet which is the spwce baby needs to be born. Means u need to push even harder ! 5. Dont purple push. Midiwves tell u to push as much as possible holding ur breath. This puts too much lressure on the tissue of the vagina. So be in a upright position. Dont take epidural. Listen to body natural urges. Quick breaths . And small vocalisations. This helps body do the work.
I had 3 babies without tearing with either of them. And they were actually quite big (8.8 to 9.9 lbs), so I was very surprised. With baby no 2 I had shoulder dystocia and he was still born after one push (4 min total). What I think helped with me was the fact that I didn't feel the urge to push with my first and last baby, so I was able to listen to my body and let everything stretch more while pushing. With my second I think it helped that I spent a few hours in a warm bath. I gave birth laying on a bed all 3 times, because I had contractions in my legs and so I wasn't able to stand in the end. I am very grateful, because I felt like myself pretty quick and I was able to focus more on the baby and breastfeeding instead of my pain and healing.
I feel like it’s important to note that induced labour is often so much more intense, and after a shot of pictocin or another synthetic oxytocin they may really need the epidural. The pains at that point are not equal to the pain in a natural physiological birth x
I watched you my entire first pregnancy and I'm back for my second! Thanks to you, I was confident enough to advocate for myself and birthed in a squat position. I did have a small tear, but nothing crazy and healed quickly. You're doing God's work for all of us mothers out here and i just love you for it!
I just gave birth to my second. I managed to not tear with either of them. My first I was on my back (not lying down) but definitely pushing. My second I needed an induction (medical reasons) and I was in an upright kneeling position I definitely had the fetal ejection reflex and it was crazy but amazing! Also birthing upright is a total game changer!

I had a second degree tear and it was honestly no biggie. Didnt feel it tear and the worst part about the stitching was just having someone touch down there after 17.5 hours of labor lol
Congrats on number 3!! I’m very nervous about tearing. My mom had a 4th degree tear with me, and has had problems because of it even at 63. My baby is measuring big, 5lb 4oz at 32w5d. Unfortunately, it's not the same nowadays. Women need guidance to birth a baby in a vaginal birth because, anything at anytime can go seriously bad and wrong.
My first birth was without epidural (because it was too late for it 😬) and i didnt tear at all. Which was amazing! I prayed throughout my pregnancy and did my perineum massages throughtout my 3rd trimester. Im about to go for number 2 in 4 weeks, and i wanna try the 6 week course this time to see if it changes anything positively:)

@@nicolechaney3870 girl, I just wanna say something to you. Because, she's not sure about what she teaches. I used to watch alot of videos in this channel but, even she's not sure if an unmedicated birth would work or not. Just gave birth to my first naturally less than a month ago. 4th degree tear - her hand was up next to her head 😢 Wish I had watched this earlier! Will have to save for -hopefully- next time 🥲
Please go for a C section next time. A 4th degree tear is a life long problem. It's not ok at all. It's gonna cause some serious complications later in you life. To avoid it, C section would be a great choice.
@@JustAnotherGirl22 well, you need to stop getting triggered by my comment. She said that she had a 4th degree tear. I don't have to ask from anyone since i've participated to many VOG sessions (educational). They too advice women to go for C sections if they had vaginal injuries before or if they have a fear for vaginal births. Your intention is to push more women to that trap and I totally understand it. Poor you. You need to educate yourself before trynna to fool others because, truth won't change. "That's what you believe" wrong. I used to believe that vaginal births were the best until I opened my eyes from that lie and after I did the research.

@@LaLoon17 Like I said, C-sections have their own life long effects as well. My best friend had 2 C-sections that left her having low back pain and constant abdominal pain. As a pelvic floor physio specialized in maternity care, I loved this video Bridget! Thank you for bringing awareness about the pelvic floor and especially tightness. I think one tip that has helped my clients feeling the release of their pelvic floor during pregnancy is to sit on a rolled towel so they can feel the difference between the contraction and the release (on the contraction it should feel like the perineum lifts off from the towel, and on the release it comes back down). Anyhow just thought I would share this little tip! Thanks for the wonderful video!
Can you guide a little about this core breathing technique? How'd I know if my pelvic floor is releasing n abdominal muscles relaxing during inhalation
Thank you so much for this!! I’ll do this with my next. It’s infuriating how hospitals treat birthing women, essentially to go against anything natural at all. I was unmedicated, told to push on my back, told to push during crowning and told to purple push. Incredibly traumatic and had a second degree tear that was stitched incorrectly. It makes me angry how in 2024 hospitals are so removed from how woman birth naturally.
If you are blaming the hospital you are wrong. Year by year a woman's natural ability to birth a baby disappears. In the near future emergency c section rate will definitely rise up.
With my first, a water birth (highly recommend), I tore 2nd degree and the midwife was coaching me to push a little bit harder and longer and my baby would be born but I don't remember if I truly felt the urge and I really wish I'd slowed down, been patient, and let my body do its thing. Now I'm 11 weeks with baby #2 and really wanting to do things differently, Lord willing, because the stitches, bruising, and pain distracted from just enjoying my new baby. 😕 I would also like to try delivering on hands and knees or upright but feel so on display! Am I the only one bothered by that? 🤔
I’m 34 weeks with my first and I’m doing a water birth with my midwives and will 100% try to be on my hands and knees and try to push when my body tells me too.
i tore both times 😢 first was hospital 2-3rr degree tear and my second was at home in the water but still a second degree tear. i didnt push with my pelvic floor last time, it was relaxed, but i def pushed with my abdominals and it was involuntary. i tried to stop and slow it down but my body was forcing me to push. it was wild. i think i tore due to scar tissue and just weakend tissue in general due to hypermobility
@@LaLoon17 I don't think it's a guarantee. afterbmy first birth, I don't think she stitched me correctly plus I pushed incorrectly and had scar tissue. I didn't see the value in perineal massage so I didn't do that before my first or second labor but maybe I should have... I did hemmorhage very badly and lost over half my blood a lot was due to the tear
@@hllymchll I feel so bad for you. Well, I would obviously go for a C section to avoid these type of bad things because, down area injuries are the worse that can happen to a woman in my opinion. Nobody wants it ig. Perineal massages are never important cause, they won't do anything to help with the stretching and to avoid tears.
@@JustAnotherGirl22 i feel so bad for you. If you can't accept the truth you can stop getting triggered but, the truth won't change my dear. Even experts say that perineal massages won't actually work. So, you say them "hey, obgyns, stop spreading lies"? Are you gonna say this to them too. Vaginal birth is unpredictable and dangerous and you can't change that. Do your own research without trynna to be a joke. Truth is truth and it won't change just because you call it a 'LIE'.
I had a 3rd degree tear with my first. had an epidural, birthed on my back and he was vacuumed out. I knew then that I was pushing wrong. He took 3 hours to come out! 23 weeks with my second now and I’m honestly super scared. Everyone says it’s easier but idk how to feel about it.
@@LaLoon17Stop advising women to go for C-sections just because that’s what you believe. C-sections have long term problems as well.. just ask anyone.
@@JustAnotherGirl22 well, you need to stop getting triggered by my comment. She said that she had a 4th degree tear. It will cause long term side effects such as leaking poop, having a hole in between the vagina and the anus, fistulas etc... please stop commenting hate towards me just because you can't accept it.
@@LaLoon17 Thank you but I don’t need your nonsense. I had a 4th degree tear and I’m fine. My sister did too and went to have 3 more births.. one 2nd degree and 1 NO TEAR. We are women, of course we’re gonna have some tearing.. mine was due to a vacuum assisted delivery that caused it.. I’m not letting you scare me OR OTHER WOMEN away from trying again. Just because you think C sections is easier and makes more money for doctors, please go find another video to spread your opinions.
@@LaLoon17 Like I said, C-sections have their own life long effects as well. My best friend had 2 C-sections that left her having low back pain and constant abdominal pain. She told me it hurts where the scar is.. and her last child is 3 years old.. so maybe stop projecting your own opinions onto other people.
@@drayesha4515 great question! Here's a video to help connect with the release of the pelvic floor. ua-cam.com/video/LnD9UVDtMHI/v-deo.html
This is a bit off topic, but what do you do to cope with the afterbirth pains?
I find those even more unbearable than labour pains
Can you please do a video about the pros of an epidural and how they can help? I don’t want a natural birth at all
Thank you so much for this!!
Thank you! ❤
That's why a vaginal birth can be unpredictable and dangerous. If someone tears, next time she will tear even more.
@@LaLoon17This is false. Stop spreading lies.
I love all of Bridget’s videos
Very very very helpful you are
Such great content!! 🙏🏼
Does FER ever happens before you're fully dialated ? Does it sometimes cause tears?
Do you recommend the KIFO position? Knees in , feet out ? Or only at time of crowning ? Is a lunge position good to incorporate as well ?
Ma’am I think some of your videos need illustrations.. thank you
I came here to say this, some of us are visual leaners.
Wondering if there’s a way not to birth on my back even with an epidural?
There is a device that is fixed to the bed so you can hold it and push in a squatting position even with an epidural.
Let us know what you decide to do when you have your baby. Would love to know
Can we conclude that babies are breathed out not pushed out? No pushing at all?
❤️
You didn’t share no tips
I wish you didn't say "mamas" so much. It is incredibly annoying to me for some reason and you almost sound pretentious saying it.
