You should film the entire process, not just the successful parts of each step. I would have liked to see how to screw the barrel loose and install the new one.
I just received my 300 black-out from Northland, I'm looking forward to finishing my build. I run a small pig removal business and sometimes I'm in areas where a miss or a pass through can't happen. State overseers require center fire with copper or lead free projectiles. The components are easy to come buy and reloading to low velocity but yet driving tacks at 50 yards or closer is a must. Good luck with your build.
Over 30 years ago I bought a Simmons 8 point scope for a deer rifle. I found that at daybreak or at dusk during legal hunting hours I could not see well enough to judge rack size to shoot an 8 point or better as I was required to do. I found over time that the rule to spend comparable money on your scope to your rifle. Buy once cry once. Vortex and Athlon meet that criteria
Very good. I too have an older (Amy first gun) Remington 700 7mm Rem Mag. How to you like it so far ? Accurate? I’m wanting to do a new barrel, even thinking carbon, but I think I need an experienced gunsmith.
Really interested to see how it shoots. Considering getting a 6mm Creedmoor Criterion barrel from northland or McGowen which I already have one rifle barrel from there that shoots sub half inch (6.5 PRC). May let your next video be the deciding factor! Hoping for another half MOA shooter. Thanks for the content.
I only put 49 rounds down the pipe in a break in session. Saw some decent groups but want to have the barrel settle out before making judgment. I'm guessing 1/2 moa center to center.
Lol I have a M700 Mountain Rifle. 270 and three shots you can barely leave your hand on the barrel. Very light easy to hike with. With that said I could definitely deal with a few more pounds of a better barrel
Did you try any WD-40 at the barrel-receiver joint? I usually let mine soak over night before removal (for savages). Was thinking about changing to a .223 Remage barrel for Remington 700 SPS varmint in .223 Wylde to get a better twist rate than 1/12, but I don't want to ruin the factory barrel if they have it practically welded on.
I used PB Blaster for a couple days. Granted my barreled action is at least more than 20 years old so that's probably the leading factor in how hard this was.
Little over $600 including all the tools needed as well. At the time Criterion was back ordered so I ended up waiting about a month, but James at Northland usually had this barrel as a stocked item.
UWMitch thanks! I will need tools also. I left a message when I called them yesterday afternoon. My rifle isn’t shooting the best about 1.2 to 1.5” at 100yards looking for .75 or better.
@@bahntango1 local very highly recognized gunsmith would've done this job for me for less than the cost of tools but it was a lot of fun :) If your rifle isnt shooting great I assume you've checked the basics like scope base and rings properly torqued and that you're using high quality ammo? I thought you were going to save the .243 barrel...lol ! You should try to take off a Mauser barrel ............from WW1, I used a 20# sledge! I have no idea why they have to be that tight, it's not like something is going to loosen them from shooting!
is there anyone who sells a remage barrel that has no chamber with it? im starting a remington 700 build and wanting it in an unconventional round (318 westley richards necked to 338) and any remage pre-fit i find seems to need a chamber with it in the order form. i already have brass and a dummy round and saw where to rent a reamer for it
@@UWMitch thanks. I was tempted to settle with a 338 federal chamber but remembered the case for the 318 is narrower. not by much but I think I'd notice by the fireformed brass
@@williambell7763 I managed to. And managed to take a deer a month after it's completion (while finding out 250 grain bullets are rather hard for white tail) Edit: forgot to say that reaming by hand takes forever (took 6 hours iirc)
Depends how accurate you need. This one is about 1/2 moa out to 300 yards. I've shot a few 600yd f class matches and scored 193, but I'm sure the 7 outside of the 10 ring were more on me.
Why is everybody going with 6.5 CM??? Just go with 270 or 250 savage!! BUT.... it's good to learn how to do this when I wanna trade my .270 barrel with a heavier .270 barrel.
I bought an RPR in 6.5CM and set up to load for it, so when I was changing from a 243win pencil barrel to this I decided to go with what I was already set up for.
So it is not a Remington 700 your just using the Remington action🤔 to go to the range and play but you will still get get vertical distortion and it will take longer to cool down. 🙄🤔😱💩

So, you didn't think showing the actual installation of the barrel was important?
Did I miss the part where the new barrel was installed?!

300blk subs supressed are very quiet - I have a Rem700 with factory barrel and Silencerco ammo that can shoot inside .75". I was astonished.
Came for a rebarrel, watched a disassembly then finished rifle. Missed the money shot…. :).
It turned out nice, well done!

@@Pistolpeter-ve1qm factory Remington trigger that I "tuned" years back. It's ok, probably 3 or 4 lbs but crisp.

I recommend putting the scope rings over the scope base bolts. I know it probably doesn’t matter but that’s how I do it.

What did you end up doing with the wooden stock? I would be interested in purchasing it!
Should have used a small torch to heat up barrel and soften the locktight,
What barrel profile did you get? I want to get one in 6.5 creedmoor but cant decide between MTU or heavy varmint profiles.
It's a 26" MTU, which seems common in the PRS game.
26 in heavy varmint is nice, I can run 20 rounds in 20 minutes and barrel isn't even very warm
If you don’t mind, What was the total price of the barrel, remage nut and recoil lug and how long did it take to get them? TIA

Use an abrasive disk and cut a groove in the lug. Don’t trash the barrel.
