I absolutely LOVE Native! Please never stop partnering with them! My favorites are citrus and herbal musk and midnight jasmine sage (not sure if that's the right name lol) but they're amazing!
barely made it through the opening and had already ordered a bundle of the new fall scents! So nice not to see the generic pumpkin, pine etc….LOVE native. Thanks Stephanie 😊
I've never understood why nothing is done about children who are labeled runaways. Even IF they did runaway they are still a CHILD and should be found.
Not to mention how much danger they’re in… like, okay fine.. the kid ran off.. that’s still a child that needs help.. at the very least they should try to figure out why the kid left.. maybe there’s abuse going on at home, maybe the kid just needs some extra help… maybe the kid is struggling with something that the parents don’t know about, maybe that child was lured away…. ALL of those things should not be ignored. If you abandon your child, that’s a crime & you’ll go to jail.. for good reason. You’re leaving a child to fend for themselves. So why isn’t it treated as serious when a child runs off? It’s the same thing! It’s still a child that is in need of help. I’m not saying it should be treated as a crime if a child leaves. I’m just saying that we take it seriously when the tables are turned.. but then when the child leaves on their own we’re like “fuck that kid! They’re a troubled kid who doesn’t deserve help!” Like.. make it make sense?!
This!!! I have always said the same exact thing. Whether they are a runaway or not they are still a child who is endangered and needs to be found!!! 😡 it angers me so much when law enforcement won’t take a child being missing seriously if they are deemed a runaway or if they are known to be rebellious or something. Like do your damn jobs. They are still kids who are vulnerable and need to be found and helped. Why is it that they are deemed unworthy of searching for if they are a runaway? It pisses me off 😡 same goes for adults who are sex workers or addicts… why do they not matter to find them when they are missing too? Or to solve their murders 😢
@@CreatureCargauxI live in Washington state. When I was a teen (I am 28 so probably 2010 era) I had friends that were homeless. They were MINORS. Some as young as 12. Kicked out by their parents. The police did nothing. One was kicked out of her FOSTER parents home. I was just a kid. I couldn't do anything. As an adult I am disgusted. Some of those kids aren't alive anymore. They died being homeless. They got murdered. Killed accidentally. Committed suicide or died from an OD.
It’s generally gotten better as time has gone by but in the 90s and earlier labeling a child as a runaway that was pretty much it for your case which is infuriating!
I’m Misty’s half brother Colton. Our mother Diana (different fathers) passed away in 2020. I just wanted to take a moment to THANK you for the coverage of Misty’s case in such detail and for giving so much validation to the way our mom was treated by PPD. I will be sharing this video on my social media platforms as it is the best explanation of the case I have seen thus far. When I try to explain it in full detail to people, the anxiety and anger often take over and make it hard to get into all the nitty gritty. Also I have been saying the EXACT same thing about the Herm Carver Award that PPD issues for YEARS! Absolutely infuriating! Thanks again. Amazing job! I recently tried to get in touch with Brian Coburn who ignored me and still does not seem to care even though he claims to. Puyallup police still could also not give any less of a shit about Misty’s case. I’ve brought them several leads and information as well as folks willing to speak with them and they have no interest in pursuing anything at all. They insist it has to be a mystery suspect who abducted her and that the only hope is a “death bed confession”.
I hope @StephanieHarlowe sees this and more ppl tag her. @ Colton thank you for messaging and sharing this with us, I am deeply sorry about your mom ,that is just heartbreaking 💔 I hope you get justice for Misty real soon! ❤
Nothing infuriates me more than authorities labelling A CHILD as a run away and doing nothing. So what if you think they ran away?! They are a child and they should be searched for the same as you would a very young child .
It happens more than people think and it's their way from having to look for them and do their job. Cop's way of being lazy in my opinion. That's why most of them are grossly over weight. Not at all saying all are like this but it far in-between the bad from the good. If you'll pay attention a lot of little kids are afraid of cops and it takes the best of the best to try to show them not all are bad but it's such a shame so many just labels kids runaways and do nothing until their bodies end up being found someway.
Feeling kind of sus about the lead officer.. what exactly was he trying to cover up? Maybe he knew what happened.. or maybe he’s just a crap trash bag of a person, it damnnn.
When I was thirteen I ran away from home often. (tired of being beaten up every day by my mum). I slept in the woods, in trains which were set on the side for the night, I slept in some buildings which were emty during the night. (I stopped with that when one night I heard other people upstairs somewhere.) But I was always afraid.Always! Sometimes I just kept on walking, all the long hours of the night. And I must admit, sometimes I wondered if throwing myself under a passing truck wouldn't be much easier... The police didn't bother that much. Back then they put you on a "telex". But, although I lived in quit a small town, the police did not search for me. I think they all slept nice and cosy in heir warm beds. I remember that a friend of mine told his mum about me and she left the shet open and put some sandwiches and a glass of milk over there for me. But not very often....
While I can understand needing to prioritize cases (a child who did NOT run away and for whom there’s evidence that it was an abduction is at significantly more risk in general than one who chose to run off since there’s a much higher chance a runaway will come back alive), there’s no justification for doing nothing at all. At the least, try to find out who the kid ran off with. A couple friend got pissed that their parents wouldn’t move to Hollywood, and so they decided to try to make their own way? A kid pissed that they were grounded for a month, had to miss a concert, so went to stay with a friend in another state? Someone unknown from an internet forum that a kid is convinced is their true love? At the LEAST, try to figure that part out.
Unfortunately, not an uncommon response to missing people, especially teens. The general public can tend to not question the cops' words, which is almost always a huge mistake.
to the people who think the police are all good bcuz "they protect and serve" you really need to see how their ego:s get in the way of things and alot of them want to torture you mentally
Soo true 😭 I feel that’s actually true for many other areas of society too. So much progress could be made and good cozld done if ego wasn’t in the way a lot of the time (and greed) 😔
Oh Puyallup? The same department that told the social worker they’d get around to it when she called about Josh Powell locking the kids in the house? I’m shocked.. 🙄
Puyallup police sucks so much. My aunt was murdered by her boyfriend, but they decided because she was a drug user that she "must've gotten high and did it to herself". I requested the files though so once I get them I am hoping to do a more thorough review. She died 7 days before my birthday when I was 13. Her last words were "I didn't do this" in the ambulance. It always stuck with me. It was a gunshot and she had no gun resdue on either of her hands. It just doesn't add up I want answers. I just wanted to say that the police had always sucked. This was 8 years after Misty went missing. I am sure that it was the same police officers but I am curious to know for sure who was in charge.
@@frenchloverstalkermaybe she should reach out to Derriks new podcast/UA-cam channel "Detective Perspective" since he's doing old/cold cases, he might get someone out there to remember something and report it. It's worth a try, maybe not this season but for his Season 2 as I'm sure he'll get that!! Hope this helps...it's a crime that these officers are this bad, they should face consequences for the lack of their actions...jear desus, (on purpose)!
Her mother was treated ABHORRENTLY, Misty did NOT run away and her mother was none of the things she was accused of, I blame the PPD for that slander, shame on them
Yes she was treated horribly! I felt awful for her mother while listening to this. Just because she had problems didn't mean she wasn't a good mother! It sounds like she very much was. I can imagine the desperation she felt and I can just imagine the way they spoke to her while she was desperately trying to get her daughter home safe. This is so sad and so wrong!
Her mother was most definitely the alcoholic they accused her of oh yes she was. She was a terribly bad alcoholic actually long before Misty vanished. and cops HATED HER> Diana also became a meth user in 2005 by her own admission to me. Oh yes she did. Sickening is what it was. Now Coton adopted her drinking problem - apples and oranges you know, do not all far from the tree. Colton liked showing his drinking hard alcohol - slugging it down - on Facebook. He has himself to blame for his ignorance to the truth ad refusal to look and listen to real evidence which he still refuses to do. Hard to feel any sympathy for Diana or Colton. Only feel sorry or Misty and Colton never met her. neither did I of course but I only feel for the real victim here and that was Misty. Each time Colton spits on me and talks his crap about me he is throwing more dirt on top o Misty's grave making sure she is EVER found. What a brother. That is a brother I bever would want. Diana was not that great of a person - not really. She was cold, rude, down right cruel to anyone who ever tried to help her if they did not follow her false belief garbage about Schmidt. She never got answers by her ow doing. She was given the truth and she spit on it over and over and over for many years on end. Her own fault. ow Colton has done the same thig for years and will never listen to the truth or care to look at real evidence. I feel zero sympathy for Colton Smith. I will ever try to help him or Misty's family again or ever agree to speak to any of them again either. Never. Don't waste your time in my opinion. It really isa waste o time now to do a thing with this case. The real killer is dead. So be it.
Exactly! 🤦🏾♀️ People will tell themselves whatever they need too, to be lazy & dismissive. 😔 The lack of empathy is astounding! 🤬 If you don’t care, you should be in a different line of work! 🥰 It’s nice to read your comment & see there are still so many people who truly care!! 🙏🏾 ❤🤗 Keep shining your light in this dark world, katskatsnews!
I grew up five minutes from the Puyallup fair grounds and currently live 10 minutes down the road. Grew up going to the fair every year. Never once hear of this case, I asked my grandma if she had heard of it as she’s sitting next to me and she hasn’t either. She has lived within 15 minutes of the fair grounds for over 75 years, was daffodil princess in high school, and her art work won prizes at the fair almost every year I’ve been alive (23 years) my grandpas (her husband) wood working has won prizes year after year too. So as a family you could say we have been very much apart of the Puyallup (now Washington State) fair for DECADES. I’m absolutely shook that I’ve never heard of this case. However, knowing what I know about the various law enforcement entities within pierce county, I am not surprised this case was mishandled. *EDIT:* Just now reading all the replies and it seems like half of us who grew up in the area heard of the case and saw fliers at the fair, half of us had no clue and never saw a single flier. Very interesting, I wonder why?? But I’ve been told they did put fliers at all the fair entrances this year, since the case finally got media attention that make sense. Makes me happy they did!
The Puyallup police are the same police department who was involved in the Josh Powell case. I live about a three minute walk from where Josh’s house once stood, it’s currently an overgrown lot. And pierce county law enforcement was partially responsible for the Green River killer and Ted Bundy cases. They shared responsibility mainly with King county but also with several other counties and state patrol. Long story short, our local law enforcement is infamous for fucking up ROYALLY and allowing cases to go on for far longer then they ever should.
I was very much aware of it at the time as I went out searching or her with a group of volunteers, not a single clue was found, she just vanished... personally believe she agreed to a ride from a stranger and was taken out of this state, I do not believe she is alive, sadly...if she is ever found it will be by happenstance by a hiker, hunger or camper IMO being as 31 years have passed it would be a miracle if her remains are ever found This girl did not run away, she was a good kid with zero motive to run
@@LoveShackSarah88 I also wonder if she was labeled as a Jane Doe somewhere, but I also believe she could've been dumped in a body of water somewhere. There are plenty of places they could've placed her. There are also a ton of truck drivers who go along the Pacific coast that could've picked her up and easily taken her out of state.
Runaways should absolutely be on the missing person's list. They even fit every checkbox on the definition, " A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown".
Agree, it's unfortunate that someone hasn't just put together a missing person's site where running away or leaving voluntarily doesn't rule out foul play. If someone disappears in thin air, it would be good to know why to make sure something hasn't happened to them. I think the LE just loves an excuse not to work on something.
Exactly especially a child… can their parents say where they are? No? Then they are MISSING even if they chose to leave they are still a child and by law must be with their parents and if they are not should be labeled “ MISSING”
I’m not sure how being a runaway makes it any less important to find her! She’s 14 and doesn’t have much money or a phone back then. Seems like a dangerous situation to me.
What police are typically trying to do is prioritize where to put resources since, even if money were limitless, there’s still a limit on man hours simply due to a limit on how many people do this work, and a runaway is significantly more likely to come back than a kid who was forcibly abducted. But the thing is, they do need to figure out who a runaway was likely to have gone off with. A boyfriend who is known but unlikely to be a killer? Off to bounce from couch to couch because they had to miss a concert due to failing another class? All right, sucks, but high chance the kid will come back alive. Someone the kid just met at the fair, or someone from a chat room who gave a probable fake name? That kid is dead if they’re not found quick. They need to figure that part out here, and they didn’t bother.
“If she’s murdered I’m sorry she met her fate as a runaway.” I’m sorry, WHAAAAT? So now runaways don’t deserve to have their murders solved? The way this guy talks about runaways, it’s as if he’s talking about baby eating cannibals. A child runs away, perhaps because they are being abused or something, and they just stop deserving the police’s help if they need it? What a disgusting human.
A girl from the town near my hometown is missing right now and essentially that's what the local police are doing. Whitney left a note saying she would be okay and would contact her family and then went missing. She's only 16, similar in age to Misty, and the cops say that because she left a note and is quote "Of a consenting age" that she's a runaway and couldn't of been coerced to leave with someone. It's been over a month and there's no updates. Her parents haven't heard from her, they cannot access her messages on her phone/apps/Facebook. The working theory with her family (from what her mom has shared on FB) is that Whitney may have been groomed and convinced to leave with an older man. The police have basically said, "She's 16. Oh well." And pushed her case to the side. My heart breaks for her family.
39:37 YES. I say this all the time. It drives me crazy that they want to act like run always are somehow safe just because they made the initial decision to leave.
This case boggles my mind. I live in Pennsylvania. I give the one thing state and local law enforcement is good at is missing persons cases, run-away cases. For example one of my neighbors adult child took off after an argument one night. He moved in with them after separation from his partner. My neighbor didn't hear from him for 24 hours, called the cops. By the time I was off work 4pm state and local police was on my street beginning a search for him. Thankfully he was found about a mile away, safe and alive. But our police took him missing seriously, even though he was an adult and a run away; they didn't want to leave a mother questioning if her child was dead or alive. Very best case scenario (this is what happened) he returned home, good case scenario cops thought of: he ran away and doesn't want them knowing where he is, in which case we can at least tell he's alive; or worst case too many possibilities. But at minimum PA police wanted to let the mother know the status of her adult son. I can't comprehend a whole department being this callus with a case; even though I'm aware it happens far too often. It still blows my mind.
Like what if a kid who's 5 runs away from home? They wouldn't look for them even though they're still a vulnerable person? If they're too young to drink, to vote, to give consent or to live on their own, they're too young to not take action as soon as you know they're not where they should be
I appreciate you calling people out when they need to be. You have a mother who nearly immediately called for help for her daughter and got nothing except shamed, disregarded, and just up ignored. As a Mother, I have no idea how I would handle that, although it probably would not be good. When I started watching I took your suggestion to heart. Stopped working, grabbed a drink, settled down in the recliner. Thank you for bringing Misty’s story to us. Cannot wait for the next ep. And yes, I agree with you, Native is amazing!
I grew up 10 minutes from the fair and still live in the area. You picked the perfect time of year to cover this case because the fair is currently going on.
Famous last words: “Allegedly. Don’t come for me.” Sad yet intrigued to hear about this tragedy. Love when Stephanie sticks it to the well deserving “detectives” and police departments, district attorneys office, defense attorneys, etc etc etc etc etc.
If Misty was the daughter of one of those LE officers would they had done the same-labeled her a runaway and sat on their as* doing nothing about finding her ?! I doubt it! It’s so infuriating and appalling. My heart breaks for Misty’s mom. I am so sorry!
No, they decided her mom was a drunk so they didn't have to try to find her daughter. I kept thinking of she came from a family with money, or a dad raising a fuss they wouldn't have disregarded them this way. Misty and her mother weren't just victimized by one bad person, but made victims by the very people who are supposed to actually help.
This is why I can’t watch other creators anymore, your research is unmatched - every time! Thank you so much for all your hard work when covering these cases, I never feel like I need to go down the Google pit of hell to find out more. The best ❤
I love how you can’t leave out details and your videos end up longer and with more parts than originally intended instead of cutting it all down into one video with so much missing information! You’re doing these victims and their families justice
This poor girl.. heart wrenching.. I can't believe I have never heard of this case. It hits so close to home. I was at the fair and at the color me badd concert in 1992. It was my first concert and the 1st time I went anywhere just me and my best friend unsupervised. My best friends grandpa was the sheriff at the fair in 1992. This child was so severely failed by so many.
So happy you are giving Misty a voice! She needs your voice and coverage. Her Mom passed without ever having answers and it just breaks my soul because no mother deserves that. Its a wild case and I've been following it for years. A page dedicated to her case, really pushes for advocay all victims but never stops speaking out and raising awareness. Thank you ❤
I mean it’s the same as when someone’s dad explained to them that their ford use to be a wind up car and could only go 35 mph 😂 life changes things change along with it.
Have you seen this sweet young girlsTikTok where she “comes up” with genius idea of having a cell that you leave at home for the whole family to use? 😂bless her heart. That’s a land line sugar. 😂
It makes me feel so old everytime! I still remember being tethered to the wall and having it get all janky and tangled before the cordless home lines came out😅
I did the same thing to my kids and my now 25 yr old child, says, "mom, I know, u told me about bad people and safety all my growing up"!! Thank goodness it stuck!!
I am guilty of doing that with my daughter too. We watched lovely bones together when she was 10. I hope me talking to her about things like this helped. My mom did the same with me honestly. It’s a harsh reality. 😢
Always love how government programs fluctuate between considering alcoholics problematic lowlives versus “not a big enough problem” depending on the kind of help you’re looking for
I appreciate the hard work you do on these cases. The police need to be called out when they fail in cases like this. Especially when our children are involved.
I totally caved and bought native from the link. I'm depressed and it's hard to motivate to shower. Hopefully nice scents will motivate me. I hope cherry vanilla macaron doesn’t disappoint.
I hope you got your shower ❤ I know how hard it is when I get depressed to do even basics so I'm thinking of you and hoping you're conquering your tasks.
I'm so happy you're covering this case! I've been hoping you'd cover it since I was really interested in it, and you always go so deep with your research.
The fact that police didn't notice Misty "returned" after the first runaway situation, shows they did nothing to help runaways and their families, not even check in.
STEPHANIE THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR COVERING THIS. I lived in this area of Washington for 5 and a half years, and found out about Misty early on when I lived there. It has bothered me so deeply ever since. A friend of mine works for Puyallup PD, and this is one of the cases she often returns to. Misty deserves justice. It's so obvious what happened to her, and I cannot believe it was handled the way that it was. There's so little coverage. I love you SO SO MUCH for covering this. (Also it's Pew-all-up)
I would love to see Mandy Stavik covered too. I grew up in the area where she was murdered and the cops were SO dedicated to solving her murder and the just recently caught the guy with improved DNA techniques. Their incredible detective work and evidence collection and storage paid off at last. I knew one of the lead detectives and now he can finally be at peace too. ❤
When you said that Misty's mother was first told that the police would want to wait 30 days to look for her, I became full of rage, i cant imagine how her family and friends felt. Thats so awful. This case is already so heartbreaking.
Girl- your story telling is just getting better and better! Not one other true crime UA-camr keeps me engaged like you do! The depth of your research is mind boggling. You clearly work so hard to bring us your best! Thanks. And also- this case is breaking my heart. My daughter is 14. All I can think about is how I’d lose my mind if she was missing and harmed.
PLEASE PLEASE do an in depth Stephanie style analysis of the Green River Killer ! I live in Washington near and around the multiple dump sites and when I was in college we got access to some of the interviews with Gary and they were fascinating
This is absolutely heartbreaking that not only was Diana so quickly dismissed. The police then made it so difficult for Diana to even file a missing child report. To label her Misty as a runaway based on no evidence of her ever being one is despicable. Then for some of the police to falsely accuse Diana of planting fake evidence as well as disparaging her character and on top of it all doing the bare minimum. Such a sad case.
Born and raised in the area and never heard of this case and only a few minutes in and I’m already pissed off at this detective and how it was mishandled! I don’t care if a child ran away or not. They are a CHILD and that makes them an easy target and it needs to be taken seriously when they go missing. Period! But I’ve lived in Buckley, Enumclaw, and Puyallup, and we grew up hearing stories about the GreenRiver Killer. We used to hike all around the area where several Bodies were found. Back when they thought the green river killer might be a cop My mom had a best friend who’s husband was a cop for king county. Don’t ask me why but they thought it might be him and told the police they needed to look into him. Obviously it wasn’t him but shows you how paranoid everyone was about it back then. PS-I shared this video to the Puyallup police departments page. 😊
Awesome! that you shared the video to the police station. I certainly hope the current police force would take a missing 14 yr old Child seriously today.
@@MichelleJones-vb6ecit looks like they deleted my post and when they just made a new post about her missing yesterday I noticed they are not allowing any comments.
@@Rollergirl601 these cops and others like them are why I believe qualified immunity should be yeeted. Like you CAN NOT be THIS negligent and callus about ANY runaway cases. Child or adult, being a runaway does not make you safe! These cops hold some level of responsibility for this case taking as long as it has. The DEPARTMENT holds responsibility for THIER officers not taking this case seriously.
I am born and raised in Parkland, like 7 minutes from Spanaway, 15 minutes from Puyallyp. I am shocked and disgusted with the way this was handled. This could have been me or any other teen girl from this generation. I loved hanging out at the fair with my friends as a teen and have missed the last bus as well. I have never heard this story and it is blowing my mind. RIP Misty.
Oh mama! Proud for you by making that baby food! I did breast milk only as long as I could, did cloth diapers as long as I could, and made homemade baby food for as long as I could. None of them panned out to last "as long as I possibly could!" I have so much respect for you! Keep it up!
I spoke with Corey Bober a few times on Facebook some years ago and he is definitely very passionate about hus theories. It was hard to discern whether he was a genius, unhinged, or both.
I live in Puyallup (Pew-All-Up) (you did good for not a local just trying to be a little more helpful) and the fair is happening right now. I don’t remember her story well. Thank you for highlighting and refreshing our memory!
As others have probably said, even IF she was a runaway, she’s still a child. She’s not even 16 where she can consent to anything in SOME states. If people are over 18, police in these cases are often quoted saying, “They’re an adult. They’re allowed to go missing,” or some form of that. When it’s a kid, they’re labeled as a runaway. If the parent says they’re a runaway, they’re automatically a suspect but if they say there’s no way, the parent is considered dramatic. Obviously we know police have come a long way (most) since this case. It’s hard to hear these older ones where it was so common to be brushed off. To add to that, when the police do realize they were wrong, they need to get over their egos and admit it, then make up for time lost as much as possible.
I live in Puyallup! And have forever! I have never heard of this case. Also I don't know if you planned it this way but currently the fair is going on right now! It's only 3 weeks every year. So good timing. I can't wait to finish this video. I'm here for it.
@StephanieHarlowe currently my 8th grader is trying to go with her friends, unaccompanied by an adult and this just CONFIRMS my no! Lol 😆 sorry not sorry
Thanks! I don’t know how you manage to do everything you do! I’m tired out just thinking about it!! You do an amazing job covering all the cases for your own video show & Crime Weekly. The in depth research is beyond reproach + you also managed to start a coffee company on top of everything else! Please take time for yourself when these cases get too be too much!
I love your sarcasm 😂 "he should of written poetry or gone for a walk" . Dude you would kill it on stand up comedy 😂😂 but seriously this is a crazy case and I think as a parent if my kid was missing and he was on the case and doing the bear minimum I would take him out so someone else would take the case on!!
A sad and suspenseful video! My heart breaks for Misty’s mom, who came home from work, to walk into the nightmare of her daughter being missing and nobody willing to help or investigate what happened to her. Stephanie you weren’t kidding when you said that this story had so many twists and turns in it! I’m looking forward to part 2
Can you imagine?! 🤦🏾♀️ “Your daughter ran away, deal with it.” 🤬 WTH! You know, I can’t imagine being so void of empathy that I could treat someone like that. 💔 This is just devastating. I can’t imagine having to face it alone, let alone having to figure it out all alone. 😢 I’m sorry to write you such a long response dear. I pray 🙏🏾 that people will wake up and treat each other better. ❤
as a local, you did pretty damn good with the pronuciation of Puyallup! i know thats a hard one for folks that didnt grow up hearing the fair's theme song. thanks for covering this case ❤
@@nicolecutright86 PEW-al-ip is how I almost always hear it. Steph’s pronunciation is much better. (I’m down in Vancouver, the original Vancouver, the REAL Vancouver, not the one in Canada.)
I really hope we don’t have to wait to hear the rest of this.. I don’t care how long they are or how many episodes there are. Stephanie’s videos are always my favorites!!
So crazy. Driving through all these places this weekend & living in this state hearing these cases over and over always gives the same chills. And as a mother of 3 girls. Lord.
I’m going through a tough break up right now and I NEEDED this video 😅 But really, thank you Stephanie. I love your deep dives, you do it better than anyone else in the true crime community. Much love ❤
Just wanted to thank you for all you do Stephanie. You are truly the best researcher and advocate of our generation. You are the VOICE of the lost, abused, and neglected.
I watch a lot of true crime you tubers. Kendall Rae, Eleanor Neil, Mr. Ballin, Bailey Syrian, Dr. grande, Bella Fiori, Danielle Kirsty, Annie Elise and Christina Randall to name a few. However you are by far one of my favorites!!
Every cop that didn't do their job on this case should be ashamed. If you don't want to do the job then find another career. I feel so sorry for Misty's mother Diana and the way everyone treated her including the exhusband what a piece of work he was saying his daughter ran away. Corey Bober sounds like he may be on the spectrum of autism with the way he focused on these cases and saw patterns. Breaks your heart that the girls didn't stay together and walk to Trina's house and spend the night. Stephanie great job on thise case. Michelle your jewelry is so cute. Hope you have lots of success.
Considering watching parts of this with my 11 year old daughter who just went to the fair and did not like the buddy system at all or understand why it was necessary. Thank you Stephanie for all your hard work on these videos🧡🖤 🧡 🖤
I’m usually impressed by your coverage Stephanie. But this week , as a Washingtonian, I’m even more impressed by your proper pronunciation of Puyallup, and absolutely delighted by the fact that you correctly referred to the fair as the “Puyallup Fair.” Seriously though, I can tell you really did your research about our area and this case and it’s so refreshing.
That poor girl and her mother. I’ll tell ya I don’t think I’ve ever heard of any cops being as bad as these guys not even in the seventies. My heart breaks for that poor girl. Can’t wait for part two! As always love your work😊
I clicked as soon as I saw this video pop up and am commenting before watching. This case out of all others is the one I've been wanting you or Crime Weekly to cover. It hits close to home as I was just a few years younger than Misty and used to go to the fair every year. Recently I read through some of the in-depth info on Reddit about Misty and was saddened to hear about the bodies found along Highway 410 and intrigued about potential links to the Green River Killer. It's no wonder my mom was so extremely protective. RIP, Misty.
Oh yes!!! A new video from my true crime and mystery queen! Seriously, your videos are saving my sanity these days, stuck home alone all day with a new born and one 6 year old. It’s really hard and I’ve been so isolated these past months and your videos just makes my day, so thank you Stephanie for that. Love the hard work you put into your videos here on youtube, there is no one who comes close to you when it comes to story telling and details..in my opinion. Keep up the good work, with love all the way from Iceland ☺️
I just went to the Puyallup fair yesterday. Was so caught off guard to hear you say she disappeared from there. Thank you for giving this case the attention it deserves!
I love hearing other peoples pronunciations of the small towns in Washington! You did pretty good with them! Pyuallup is "pew-al-up" Enumclaw (my hometown!) is "ee-numb-claw" and KOMO news is "koe-moe" you say it as a word not letters. And thank you Stephanie for always taking such care wiith the cases you cover. Growing up our parents would tell us horror stories about the Green River killer.
Damn Stephanie....I have no idea why I associate you with fall....with warmth, cozyness, hot coco or red wine.... maybe your voice, your energy, or the fact that I started watching your channel a few years back, during autumn, during a very dark time in my life and your voice and your vibe kept me sane... Now I am again in a free fall in my life but able to manage it and getting back on track, again listening to you... I don't know if you'll read this...just a huge "Thank you!!" All the best to you and your loved ones!🥰🥰
This case just infuriates me so much… the PPD just keeps proving they don’t care about doing their job properly… may Diane and her daughter both Rest In Peace knowing there are people out here that still care about finding the truth.
I was literally praying for a Stephanie Harlowe’s aka true crime queen upload. Household chores here I come !! Thank you Stephanie you’re very much appreciate it !
I live 30 miles from Puyallup, I was not expecting a case so close to home today! And how I’ve never heard of Misty Before baffles me, thank you for covering this
Thank you Stephanie for covering this case! I was just at the Washington State(puyallup) fair last Saturday. I have attended the fair almost every year since I was a child. In recent times, I also go to other yearly events that occur at the fair grounds. I only briefly heard of this case within the last few years. Now when I go there I think about this case which is very sad and gives me an uneasy feeling.
Wow, I haven’t heard of this case before now. It’s quite disturbing. Why, why, why don’t “runaway’s” illicit at LEAST a precursory investigation? Perhaps establish a foundation of initial evidence in order to determine whether or not the child disappeared under suspicious circumstances..? Thanks for the in depth coverage.
EXACTLY. I understand a need to prioritize where to put resources, and runaways are significantly more likely to return alive, but the police do need to at least try to figure out of the kid ran off with a boyfriend who is 4 years older, because they were pissed over being grounded, or if there is evidence that a kid was convinced to go off with some rando from a chat room. All would be runaways, but that last one is likely to end up dead.
@@StephanieHarlowe Always! You have and throughly earned my respect and loyalty. This case highlights your uncanny skill in research and tough stance on predating on women and children, in particular. Much love to you and your family!
@@NoelleTakestheSky Yes, it’s unbelievable, isn’t it? The hostility that Herm Carver shows towards Misty and her Mom is pretty scary. It seems as if personal feelings and the need for validation and worship by the community he took an oath to protect took precedence over everything. That still doesn’t excuse the entire department and the lackadaisical attitude they (and an overwhelming number of many more LE dept) have towards “runaways” (hate that word) and probably others they deem unworthy of their time. It’s so prevalent that families are wary of even reporting issues such as that, issues w/addiction or even field of employment because of the biases police have towards them! Investigating and Collecting early evidence can be the catalyst to solving a crime and removing the pred*tor from society where they can’t hurt anyone else. Like you said, they’re KIDS. We all accept they aren’t mentally developed enough yet to make sound decisions but if they run away from home, they are? Kids that have a history of behavioral issues (usually due to familial issues, just like they claimed Misty’s Mom had) are almost always the first they target. As if anyone is more or less important.
Stephanie, you did and AMAZING job covering this case, as usual. I love your sassy, spunky, and sarcastic attitude when you called out the police for their lazy, uncaring attitude, and ineptness on Misty’s case. Obviously, it goes without saying, that the killer’s act was criminal…..BUT the multiple police department’s lack of doing a thorough and professional job looking into this case and giving it all the time and attention It deserved was CRIMINAL, as well!!! Some of them should be sitting in jail, as we speak. The torment and hell that they put poor Mistys mother through, is a disgusting, crying shame. The MOTHER had to REPEATEDLY go to THEM and BEG them to DO THEIR JOB!!! She had to point out to them that the last people that Misty spoke with, had not been questioned or interviewed and didn’t they find things about Ruben strange. All of the police officers and other employees, who were receiving a paycheck when they weren’t actually doing the job that they’re paid to do, should refund the taxpayers their money. I am not a police officer, and I’m screaming out as I’m watching all of this exactly what should have been done! And don’t any of these police officers and other employees of the police force have daughters/children??!! What is this had happened to THEIR DAUGHTER???!!! Wouldn’t THEY be BANGING DOWN DOORS and LIGHTING 🔥A FIRE🔥 underneath the professionals, trying to get them to do their job???!! It just sickens me! Trust me, I have absolutely no desire to move to their community, and I hope everybody else feels the same. How they could lay their head on their pillows at night, and fall asleep… I’ll never know. I guess none of us well. It was almost sadistic the way they just tossed this case aside, and refused to give it the fall attention that it needed. It also makes me sick for all of the unnecessary drama, heartache, pain, and torment that they caused Misty’s poor mother. The pain and anxiety and fear she felt wow Misty was missing was already too much… But then to add the total disrespect and disregard that the police officers treated her and her daughter’s case with is shocking, devastating, and horrific!!!
Thank you Stephanie! 🧡💛❤️ you always put SO much hard work into the research into the cases you cover! I hope you know we all truly appreciate it! 🧡💛❤️
I’m still confused as to why Misty didn’t just go home with her friend who lived closer and then called her mom from the friend’s house and say I missed the bus and couldn’t find a ride. It’s so frustrating! I would never part ways with a friend late and dark, I’d insist we go home together because we’re safer together than alone.
That's the difference in generations. As time has gone on we humans began instilling in our children not to be alone or leave friends alone for fear of something happening. You have to have enough missing people to instill this kind of fear from one generation to the next. Those of the Boomer generation or older still remember a time when kids COULD run around and return home by sunset. Millennial's are the last generation to know even an ounce of the freedom to roam as the Boomers had. All because that's when we accepted our children were easy targets for murderers or chomos. My mother a boomer had to grow up quickly didn't have as much of a childhood like me; when her mother died my grandfather saw my mother as a substitute caregiver for his disabled son he did nothing for. My mom still remembers when adults treated children as "small adults" and not children. Further you go back in history, the less children are children with childhoods. It wasn't until the last 50 years we really buckled down on "let children be children". Even now we still get adults raised to think of children as smalladults.
So according to a website I found it says: “Trina had gotten a ride home from Michael Rhyner, her 23-year-old boyfriend. Michael had been accused of abducting and raping an 11-year-old girl at knifepoint when he was 16, although no charges were filed in the case. Trina had offered to let Misty leave with her and Michael, but she refused as she didn't trust Michael. Trina arrived home without incident. Investigators originally theorized that Michael may have returned to the fairgrounds and convinced Misty to ride home with him. However, Michael was later ruled out as a suspect after passing a polygraph test.”
Remember her friend's mother had to be lied to about how the girls were getting home? I think that had a lot to do with why Misty didn't go home with Tiana that night. She didn't want her friend to get in trouble.
I went to this fair for FFA events and ran around with my friends every year around the same age as Misty was when she went missing. It’s insane that I’ve never heard of this case. I’ve not watched all the way through but I’m so ready. 💜
I think you are the best true crime UA-camr. And I just love the native body wash. Smells good, cleans nicely, and never irritates my sensitive skin! I will never use anything else. Thank you for the suggestion. Keep up the good work, Stephanie.
Lifetime fair attender from birth to retirement. I was always comfortable having my kids there. This is going to be terrifying. The picture of this darling girl is already killing me.
Stephanie great job once again, like ive commented recently ive been gone for two years and since coming back to your channel I am so very impressed. Absolutely amazing, well delivered and investigated content thank you for bringing this important story to light. It drives me nuts when i see the way these cases are covered..its infuriating. Especially the family those poor people having to go through this. She would be about my age today.
3 body washes would normally be $27, but if you use my link bit.ly/nativestephanieh36 and code STEPHANIEH36 you’ll get them for $18 - that’s over 33% off! #AD

I just placed an order...you convinced me. I have their lilac and sage and LOVE it, but I haven't strayed away.
I absolutely LOVE Native! Please never stop partnering with them! My favorites are citrus and herbal musk and midnight jasmine sage (not sure if that's the right name lol) but they're amazing!
I get so excited when this code happens!!! Love native
barely made it through the opening and had already ordered a bundle of the new fall scents! So nice not to see the generic pumpkin, pine etc….LOVE native. Thanks Stephanie 😊
I've never understood why nothing is done about children who are labeled runaways. Even IF they did runaway they are still a CHILD and should be found.
I agree!
❤
What an awful tragedy in the family and how wicked that law enforcement continues to fail you.
I hope @StephanieHarlowe sees this and more ppl tag her. @ Colton thank you for messaging and sharing this with us, I am deeply sorry about your mom ,that is just heartbreaking 💔 I hope you get justice for Misty real soon! ❤
I’m so sorry for your loss. This is heartbreaking and infuriating at the same time.
@stephanieharlowe
Exactly! At least make sure the child is safe and sound.
How was this a runaway case at all. She was calling for a ride home and didn’t get home. How do you get ‘runaway’ from that. How. Shocking.
Unfortunately, not an uncommon response to missing people, especially teens. The general public can tend to not question the cops' words, which is almost always a huge mistake.
Who said she was calling?🕵️♀️
Several people said, you mega sleuth 🙄
to the people who think the police are all good bcuz "they protect and serve" you really need to see how their ego:s get in the way of things and alot of them want to torture you mentally

It just doesn't add up
I want answers. I just wanted to say that the police had always sucked. This was 8 years after Misty went missing. I am sure that it was the same police officers but I am curious to know for sure who was in charge.
I'm sorry for your loss hon
I was curious about how this police department was with other cases because they sound like the worst...
Maybe you should reach out to some true crime channels to see if they will cover the case and bring attention to it. Pressure might make a difference

So be it.
Just because the parent is a “drunk” doesn’t A make the child a runaway B make the child safer not being found

@@nunyabidnazz2311 Thanks and you do the same! There’s a difference between being nosy and being empathetic.
She probably became a drunk as a result of dealing with those keystone cops.
Its so devasting how much they are allowed to eff up.
I hope more locals hear Misty's story.
I was very much aware of it at the time as I went out searching or her with a group of volunteers, not a single clue was found, she just vanished... personally believe she agreed to a ride from a stranger and was taken out of this state, I do not believe she is alive, sadly...if she is ever found it will be by happenstance by a hiker, hunger or camper IMO being as 31 years have passed it would be a miracle if her remains are ever found
This girl did not run away, she was a good kid with zero motive to run
@@LoveShackSarah88 I also wonder if she was labeled as a Jane Doe somewhere, but I also believe she could've been dumped in a body of water somewhere. There are plenty of places they could've placed her. There are also a ton of truck drivers who go along the Pacific coast that could've picked her up and easily taken her out of state.
Same. I live right off river road. Wtf.
I got lost at the Puyallup Fair in ‘93 at age 6!! Thanking my lucky stars I was found and returned to my mom safely.
Runaways should absolutely be on the missing person's list. They even fit every checkbox on the definition,
" A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are unknown".
Agree! Unless they are over 18 AND contact has been made, they should be reported as missing.
You’d literally think the cops were directly involved, if u have one of them on a radio show, saying the kid was actually safely returned home…
Suspicious..🤔
That’s what I was thinking this whole time. Maybe while walking home a cop offered to give her a ride since they’re considered to be trusted 🤷🏻♀️
Yup and they’re covering for each other.
“We wont do anything for at least 30 days” is the wildest thing ive ever heard in one of these cases. She is a minor!!! What?!?
I'm shocked at the lack of concern or care from those police officers. So disgusting and frustrating.
Im not shocked anymore, freaking Herm Carver
@@StephanieHarlowe that damn Herm!!
Every single case..laziness and willful neglect.
If they're too young to drink, to vote, to give consent or to live on their own, they're too young to not take action as soon as you know they're not where they should be
When a child runs away and law enforcement refuse to help, the feeling of desperation is so hard to explain.
Since her mother has passed away, I'm glad this story keeps being updated.
Famous last words: “Allegedly. Don’t come for me.”
Sad yet intrigued to hear about this tragedy.

You are ABSOLUTELY right about that !!
Yep. 💯 agree
Harloween is hot on our tails! I’m SO EXCITED to see what you’ve got up your sleeve this year!! 🎃
working on Harloween today!
I know!! I'm super excited. I can't wait! 💚
So excited!
@StephanieHarlowe Harloween Is my Favourite time of year 🧡🖤🧡 xxx
Same !! I’m hoping to get some good mysteries, horrid history stuff and of course something a little strange & spooky.
Yes! It's so awesome that she is able to speak quickly enough that it's like 1.75 speed while still stopping when needed
Thank you ❤
R.I.P. Diana 🕊️ I know you and Misty are together and being able to sleep in each others arms again. ♥️
@@debbiebecklehimer495 I hope she found some peace and was able to hug her angel ❤️
@@debbiebecklehimer495amen, thank you for writing this
Oh no. 😢 🕊🕊🕊😔 So very sorry to hear this.
It’s crazy how you have to explain the use of a home phone to our younger generations like it’s some antique tool from the 1800’s 😂😂😂
🤣🤣🤣…….I know it seems so funny. To us it was the way of life we knew nothing else !!
I still remember being tethered to the wall and having it get all janky and tangled before the cordless home lines came out😅
I grew up in the country where we had to share a party line with three other families. Try explaining that to today's kids
This case has always scares me to my core. My mom always used it to scare me into not wanting to go places alone as a kid. Shivers
Great mom.
Your mom was right.
I understand how you feel. Thinking about ordering some too.. Please know that you are not alone ♥️
Praying for you!! God has better plans for you ❤
I truly hope ur feeling better♡ Much Love sent 2 u from the Middle Of Nowhere Nevada!
I understand. I'm also depressed
I'm so happy you're covering this case! I've been hoping you'd cover it since I was really interested in it, and you always go so deep with your research.
its crazy!
The fact that police didn't notice Misty "returned" after the first runaway situation, shows they did nothing to help runaways and their families, not even check in.
I get so angry when police act like this! I would lose my mind on them.
Idk how they're still employed. SMH. Gross.
Just finished Derrick's latest video when I get my notification for Stephanie's newest upload. Perfect timing ❤
Love that!
When you said that Misty's mother was first told that the police would want to wait 30 days to look for her, I became full of rage, i cant imagine how her family and friends felt. Thats so awful. This case is already so heartbreaking.
I'm already in shock with the police's negligence on this case I can only imagine how much worse it is going to get in part 2...
I'm so grateful she is covering this case.
Don’t make us wait too long for part 2, pleeeease. I’m so invested! ❤😊
We used to hike all around the area where several
Bodies were found.
RIP Misty.
I have a big ass afternoon of making baby food and I really needed some Stephanie narration for my sanity 😅
Good luck, mama. I'll be making chicken feed this evening while listening to Let's Read. I listen to Stephanie while I work during the day.
Oh mama! Proud for you by making that baby food! I did breast milk only as long as I could, did cloth diapers as long as I could, and made homemade baby food for as long as I could. None of them panned out to last "as long as I possibly could!" I have so much respect for you! Keep it up!
I live in the town where this happened and it has haunted me since childhood. Thanks for covering it. Truly a frustrating case.
I took today off to fight off a popular illness - I’m so glad it was timed with this release!!
I spoke with Corey Bober a few times on Facebook some years ago and he is definitely very passionate about hus theories. It was hard to discern whether he was a genius, unhinged, or both.
I think some geniuses were definitely unhinged
the way he's described makes me feel like he might be autistic which could explain his behaviour and obsession with solving the crimes.

I live in Puyallup (Pew-All-Up) (you did good for not a local just trying to be a little more helpful) and the fair is happening right now. I don’t remember her story well. Thank you for highlighting and refreshing our memory!
Thank you thank you THANK YOU for covering Misty’s case 💛 I am so happy you are using your platform to keep her story alive!!
I went to school with Opal Mills, one of the early victims of the green river killer. It was a scary time growing up in Kent.
STEPHANIE I HAVE BEEN HOPING YOUD DO THIS. IVE LIVED HERE IN WA FOR MY ENTIRE LIFE AND ALWAYS WONDER ABOUT MISTY!!!!
I did not plan it that way!
LMAO thank you so much
A sad and suspenseful video!

Was coming here to say this about Corey Bober. The cops are just completely incompetent and were lucky anyone was "helping" them.
I kept thinking he's likely on the autism spectrum when I heard the way he was listing things and making connections.
But this week , as a Washingtonian, I’m even more impressed by your proper pronunciation of Puyallup, and absolutely delighted by the fact that you correctly referred to the fair as the “Puyallup Fair.”
Seriously though, I can tell you really did your research about our area and this case and it’s so refreshing.
Headed out for a walk now that it's not scorch the earth hot 🔥 here in Austin. You always have perfect timing Stephanie. Thank you!

I love hearing other peoples pronunciations of the small towns in Washington! You did pretty good with them!
@@bajramielika2990 Harlowe is one of the Best!
Thanks for the in depth coverage.
thank you for being here!
awww thank you so much for your kind words!
Stephanie's cases always prove to be a strong voice for the marginalized victims. Much appreciated!
They didn't want Trina's mum to find out that Misty mam didn't give them a ride
And times back then were different. You didn’t have social media and hear of every person going missing. Just different eras
So according to a website I found it says:
“Trina had gotten a ride home from Michael Rhyner, her 23-year-old boyfriend.
OMG THANK YOU FOR COVERING THIS!!! This one is so perplexing!!!!
I went to this fair for FFA events and ran around with my friends every year around the same age as Misty was when she went missing. It’s insane that I’ve never heard of this case. I’ve not watched all the way through but I’m so ready. 💜
