    Your green plastic is probably po ison too. Isn't your coffee maker and other gadgets made of black plastic too? I would think all plastic whatever color, is bad for you.

      one of my neighbors just bought a red plastic spatula set,after I told them to use wood or stainless steel.I won't even try to guess what they melted down to get red plastic 😱

    i recently just got rid of all black plastic utensils in my kitchen. Replaced with wood and stainless steel and a couple of silicone.

      (I've read) that if "silicone" leaves a white stress mark after you bend it, it's not real silicone.

      @@decide2day815 ... I too use silicone but am concerned about what will emerge thirty years in the future. Who knew Teflon emits toxic fumes, that we have regular contact with hormone disrupters, or plastic food trays leach chemicals when heated. It took decades to inform the general public and take action. In the meantime, we're all enjoying the benefits of silicone ....

    I use stainless steel. I've had it for 30 years. That's really good cookware still looks almost as good as it did when I bought it 30 years ago, I'll so use stainless steel utensils and glass containers.

      I think there is a reason our ancestors all cooked with cast iron. Way better than when teflon and all the non-stick came along. You are healthier and safer to stick with cast iron!

    Good stuff for people that are misinformed. Talk about how bad microwaving your food is and how most European countries they are banned . Also the posion in the polyester clothing.

      My sister in law had cancer quite a few years ago. She will not use a microwave at all. Only a toaster oven. And still, I use my microwave. But reading your comment made me take pause and wonder why I just haven't bought a little toaster oven too, because you're right about the danger. Although I was not aware they are banned in European countries. That right there should be my indication to stop using a microwave. Thank you

      ​@@sandysteinbrook I try my best not to use any electric appliances. Don't forget the EMF radiation danger.I can't imagine how much the electric cars all around us are emitting and what future studies will discover from people being in these cars surrounded by electromagnetic fields. They want everything electric now. No thank you. I will put a coat on and cook outside,over a homemade rocket stove before ever getting an electric stove. At least the small appliances stop emitting when you unplug them,but most people never unplug.

      Heating any plastic has never been a good idea and never cared to use utensils made of it. Underwriters Laboratories did studies on frozen food trays....those convenience items we like so much, and yes, chemicals leached into the food. I still buy them on occasion but remove the food then heat it in a toaster oven.

    We just got rid of all of the black plastic. My household tries to use mostly glass containers. I have a few plastic containers, but plan on chucking them in the trash as soon as possible!

      I was hanging on to those few plastic container I showed in the video. They were worn out, yet I held on to them, because they were lightweight. I threw them in the trash as soon as I finished the video. It just isn't worth the possibility of hurting our health. It's hard enough as it is to keep chemicals out of our homes since companies put it in everything.... including food.

    Thank you for this great information. Unfortunately the Silicone utensils have high concentrations of chemicals in them as well. Though they don't break down as quickly, they do break down while cooking causing micro cracks in them that are very hard to see with the naked eye and releasing the toxins in them.

      @@janetpierson633 I would think that it would last a bit longer, but mind you, if you're washing it with hot water after each use which I'm sure you are to get them properly cleaned, they are still going to crack and break down over time.

      I read Nylon is good I found one nylon soup ladle at Walmart (the last one) it was $10.00! I have metal spatulas and wooden spoons Do we throw the black plastic in with the regular garbage?

    Sandy, I would suggest you listen to a youtube video from Canadian Public Broadcasting CBC called Heard Black Plastic is Toxic? This might help put into perspective the actual risk from black plastic.

      Except they have conflicting information, and it just isn't worth it to me, when it is so easy to switch to wood, stainless steel or silicone utensils and glass bowls for storing food. One man did a video on CBC on YT that says it isn't, but CBC radio says it Is toxic. Too much conflicting information to put my health at risk. This is what CBC radio had to say:

    Is black plastic a lot worse than other plastics? I try not to put my food in any plastic containers but what if it's clear?

      I can't answer that for sure. Black plastic is a definite for toxins, but not sure about clear plastic. We have glass containers instead at our house that we leftovers in.

    Interesting.. I have a lot of the black plastic storage containers. I will need to look at finding square glass containers I have some but they are bigger sizes. I love the black plastic to store single size meals in when I bulk cook, will have to remember to take them out and use plastic containers to heat them in. Anna In Ohio

    Good information. I primarily use wood or stainless utensils for cooking. But, as I’m looking around my kitchen thinking about replacing other black plastics I’m wondering about the coffee maker. Many of the components are black plastic & the lid on the pot caught my eye first. What do we do about that?

      My favorite way to make coffee is in a cooking pot. It takes about 20 minutes, but it is the most flavorful. My filter is from a piece of cotton material, but you can also use a coffee filter. Add water to your pot add the coffee grounds to the filter and somehow tie it closed. Put it into the water pot, simmer, and you'll know that it's done when you smell the fresh aroma of brewed coffee

      I use a stainless steel percolator because of the plastic in coffee makers. And using the plastic coffee pods are awful. A percolator solves the issue and to me makes a better cup of coffee.

    Thank you. I got rid of all the plastic and got glass and silicone, but a lot of people are still using plastic. Silicone containers are expensive. Glass is the cheapest, but still have plastic lids, so you can't get away from the plastic lids unless you get the silicone stretch covers, and they are not the greatest.

      I agree. The plastic lids are what comes with glass and really no way around it. At least the food isn't touching the plastic. But also, I just think all we can do is the best we can and roll with it.

      Get wood, stainless steel or silicone utensils. Although someone in the comments said that silicone can get small tiny cracks over time that are not good for us. I would think wood will always be safe.

      Food dyes really are dangerous. RFK Jr is trying to sound the alarm on the toxic side effects of tall the red, yellow and blue dyes causing major behavioral issues in kids and health problems in everyone.

    Not just black plastic.Why woudnt it apply to white and every other color? They just didn't tell us yet. How do we know they aren't melting white plastic from white electronics to make utensils, etc- I even see red utensils.😱

    Thank you for the information but I am so tired of it. All the recalls are ridiculousness. I’m always looking for another demon. I have theBRAC 1 I’ve had cancer twice. I’m really tired. Just tired of being overwhelmed .

      Bless your heart. I understand. I agree. It is constant. So many chemicals and additives are in so many products in the US. I know Europe isn't perfect but, at least most of their food and products are so much safer than ours in America.

      Agree. Teflon can leach into our food. Cast iron, stainless steel and ceramic seem to be the much better option.

    they use black plastic little balks theh melt to be able to make things like spoon. the color is an additive they add on it. any colors that is plastic is the same health issue

      Honestly, we can only do the best we can do. The items I mentioned are easy to replace. Coffee makers, not as easy. Before we ever had coffee makers what did our ancestors do? Use a percolator? I'm just thinking out loud.

    Whilst watching your video, I gathered two fistfuls of black plastic spatulas, spoons, cooking spoons and tossed into the trash. Not recycling those!
    Going back into the house to gather any containers, etc

    Have you seen the reporting since about the study you are talking about? It was flawed and the math was wrong -- the black plastic toxicity was raised by a power of 10 -- in fact the black plastic is not dangerous.
