Seems better structured than a Hivestorm box in explaining the rules. I love you unboxed and could play really fast! I ordered both Starter and Hivestorm.
First box that is in my price range, all the combat patrol boxes are now in the $220 mark AUD but this one is heaps cheaper - I am especially interested in the MDF terrain
Definitely more interested in the minis than anything, especially as someone who is somewhat interested in getting some death guard to add to a chaos army. The basic space marines are nice, too. Personally I like the sculpted bases, means all I have to do is either paint them or put a texture paint on before I prime them. Probably a toss up between the heavy and the captain for worst out of the lot, honestly; not a fan of the hardcore UM looking powerfist but that heavy bolter looks so damn naked without the power cord running to the backpack If you don’t like the MDF terrain, donate it to a gaming club, group, or a friend. Such a first world issue to complain about, it’s a starter set.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing maybe some of the old style 2nd edition plastic hybrid kits like the old school Necromunda stuff, just with the card bits replaced with MDF, would be nice to have some more affordable and portable terrain for gaming on the go :D
My main issue with the box is that they have the boring Primaris heroes instead of the first two waves that were upscaled firstborn tacticals and terminators
The MDF terrain looks amazing! Given how much of typical 40k boards are just ruined L shapes anyway, I would love for them to really expand this line of terrain. It would be so easy to elevate the look of them as well. Put some black along the edges to get rid of the brown wood look (I'd just use a wide permanent marker), sponge on some brown along the bottom, and then hit it with a coat of matt varnish to take off that shine it has and you'd end up with something that looks nicer than the majority of terrain out there on tables!
I’m no corporate shill, and I definitely think they’re overpriced. But, to be fair, it’s not JUST plastic. They’re really high quality and an artist had to make these models from scratch. Even if the material is cheap, a lot of specialized work went into making them.
They're charging 50 for 3 saurus for warcry.. the prices are insane. 40k is almost as much as a console and you have to clean assemble and paint it all plus spend another 50 on rules and stuff. I'm leaning into infinity with it's new edition out next month. E150 is a full army with options and the rules are good, balanced and free and so is the app
i was planing on buying the octarius starting box, but it kinda disapear, i am planning on getting the box but i live in south america should i wait until christmas (dunno if Gw prices get lower)
This would have been brilliant in a 12x16 box at around 45GBP. Instead it has a nonsensical price for a retail-shelf board game and nonsensical content as a proper Kill Team "Starter." It's priced the same as the WH40K Starter, but it has ~30% of the plastic. Unlike the 40K Starter, it has INCOMPLETE CORE RULES for Kill Team. GW omitted like the 4-odd pages for Terrain, Equipment, and Tac Ops. So if you want to play the Base Game of Kill Team not only do you need the Universal Equipment from the $35 accessories kit, but you also need a $65 Rulebook to get those 4 stupid pages of rules GW is omitting. You'll probably also need the Approved Ops Card Pack. In the end, if you start with this box and then add the MINIMUM augments, you'll pay as much as Kill Team: Hivestorm - and have Less Models and No Plastic Terrain. This is just a box for old-school Kill Team players who are missing some of the Gatcha models and for hard-core game evangelists that want a Demo Kit. I'd never recommend this box to a New Player looking to get into Kill Team - wasted opportunity.
Perfectly articulated. I hate that so many (mainly British) videos on this are acting like this is a steal because the minis were hard to find and the MDF terrain is a new thing for GW. This should be the same price as Combat Arena or Space Marine Adventures!
I think you've got it all wrong. Many new players are uninterested in having equipment to worry about at all. Your opinion on this excellent starter box is obviously posed from a perspective of having played the full game already. This is for new players, not you. Although, the price isn't bad per miniature. I have Hivestorm and haven't built the terrain, but I got the Starter Set yesterday and have been playing with all of the models that come in the box. I've been at Killteam for about 2 months and it STILL is a lot to wrap my mind around for a single session against myself. This is a STARTER SET. It is advertised as what it delivers and you assessment of it is unfair at best, and conceited at worst. You mention the box size, the price, compare it to monopoly, and argue it doesn't meet a "proper" standard for a Killteam "Starter". You compare it to the 40k starter, arguing it offers less plastic, yet the 40k starter offers much less of its game than the Killteam starter. TLDR your take is less than trash. I bet you just bought Nurgle Heroes a few months ago and now you're sour it's a cheap model set XD
As far as minis they are nice minis, the rules stuff I find Kill Team very off putting after all how many new rules have we had in a couple of years 3? I like the idea of Kill Teams a fun good skirmish game. But as far as price not worth it GW has the most over priced products in the wargaming space by far... and keep going up as plastic making is cheaper now than it was 20 years ago.
Me too! I hope the established players who are complaining about the price really stay away from purchasing it so some copies can be left over for new people during the holiday season! It seems like the people who are loudest about specific box pricing are the ones who have 3 unopened Leviathan boxes collecting dust. Then they wonder why scalpers have an easy time on Ebay -_- Personally, I've been having a lot of fun with this starter box :D I haven't built anything from hivestorm, but got it on release. I've built and played all of this starter box already. At this point, it frustrates me when people review this box through the lens of what value it offers long-time players or deep-rules players. Man, I just want to play some Killteam with friends and family this Christmas. This box will be awesome to introduce them to the game.
@@Mandrewlochner Yeah!!! Absolutely this!!! Kill Team is such a great first step into the hobby aswell from both gaming and painting. I have only played Kill Team at a local store but I really think this might be on the xmas list!!
I just got hivestorm. I'd be upset if I got a repeat board. I like the orange! Maybe i'm happy with it because I'm new and this is advertised for new people to killteam. The rule book doesn't even infer that you have to paint the models - in fact I think it specifically says you don't need to paint them to get started playing.
Man sorta annoyed that I bought my Death guard heroes from Japan, just to come out a few years later in a set box, with the caster included in the box.
So, you're upset that rare models are more available, but the complaint a few years ago is that those coveted models couldn't be easily attained by american markets? This community truly is full of conceited clowns.
I much prefer the MDF terrain. I don't have the space for lots of plastic so having ruins you can easily store is great. I really like the card pop-up terrain that other companies make as well.
I think for the price and what you get it looks like a pretty good bargain . I've always been like where the hell do i start and do I want to spend that kinda money but I would be happy to buy this set . Good job GW and thanks again for all your work it really helps ppl like me in the community

I ordered both Starter and Hivestorm.
I can't believe I've just discovered a Welsh content creator, Awesome stuff
I'm exactly the same when it comes to gaming, I'm dyslexic so I really struggle but seeing it played out or watching a how to video really helps
Yeah, I'm with you on learning rules. Looking forward to receiving mine. Cheers!
First box that is in my price range, all the combat patrol boxes are now in the $220 mark AUD but this one is heaps cheaper - I am especially interested in the MDF terrain
the mdf is awesome! I wish they would release more with vantage!
Definitely more interested in the minis than anything, especially as someone who is somewhat interested in getting some death guard to add to a chaos army.

The only problem I have with the bases is having the model's feet sculpted on. Makes it a lot harder to rebase when the model is missing feet.
I actually wouldn't mind seeing maybe some of the old style 2nd edition plastic hybrid kits like the old school Necromunda stuff, just with the card bits replaced with MDF, would be nice to have some more affordable and portable terrain for gaming on the go :D
Etsy have a mdf set that is very close to the necromunda set.
Great review, I'm actually quite tempted to get the set now
Im glad to see that there are helmet and non helmet heads. I prefer helmets so i was afraid they didnt have any!
Excellent review!
Great presentation mate looks a cool box
This looks like it could be a lot of fun.
I think it could!
My main issue with the box is that they have the boring Primaris heroes instead of the first two waves that were upscaled firstborn tacticals and terminators
Will you be doing a paint guide especially on the death guard and their range of details?
I'm getting the box mostly for the minis

It's like second edition pop out card terrian.
Great video!
I find it ironic that plastic is cheaper to make and mould nowadays but somehow is 100X the price. Its only plastic 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
Plastic doesn't design itself
Moulds don't make themselves
Rules don't write and playtest themselves
Products don't distribute themselves
Bills don't pay themselves
You right. It's greed mostly. Now I'm sure there's also too many middle managers as well, but greed is the primary factor.
It's the cardboard that's expensive now, seriously.
I’m no corporate shill, and I definitely think they’re overpriced. But, to be fair, it’s not JUST plastic. They’re really high quality and an artist had to make these models from scratch. Even if the material is cheap, a lot of specialized work went into making them.

GW prices never get lower sadly - unless you have a reseller. The replacement box is called Hive Storm
I wanted Octarius so baldy too!
Anyway starter or Hivestorm are really grat too! :)
You already have it! Also I think it is for the two sets of limited models, that were really hard to get.
Do you have the option to put helmets on all of them?
Yes
@@ThePaintingCoach also Is it possible to use these in a Deathguard army? What would they fit in as?
I plan to get into the main game eventually.
@Shini1171 I'm not sure but I guess they would make a squad of plague marines
Make a vid about painting them
Plague marines yet again look 100x better than space marines xD
Maybe I missed it, but does it not come with transfer sheets?
I just double checked in case I had missed them! Sadly no transfers
@@ThePaintingCoach thanks for checking. Great video by the way.
Awesome run through! One thing I need to know tho......on your cutting mat what is the water to paint ratio for glaze? 😂😂 It's just off camera 😢😂

You're completely right, they prioritized greed over growth. It's their usual behavior anyways
