If only they'd do another batch of the Bretonnian resin heroes, as they've never been available since launch here in Canada but yet I see them on ebay all the time.
I’m someone who bought the 8-pack bundle of Space Marine Heroes to get the models previously. Personally I’m happy to see them readily available for everybody. They’re cool sculpts, and anyone that is mad that others can get them easier now is a butt.
I have been whatching 40k lore for 4 years now, never bought anything. I just ordered this Box for 70 bucks. This is the entry point I've been waiting for.
I actually think it's the best starter set GW have ever put out, for any game. I'm an experienced hobbyist but for a beginner this is perfect. It's a whole game in a box, you get beautiful push fit miniatures which are coloured plastic so you don't even have to paint them to get started, and you get nice looking MDF terrain which doesn't take up loads of space and is quick and easy to throw together. But most of all it's very affordable compared to everything else GW makes. I think it targets the board game market in terms of contents and price. Would be a perfect Christmas present for someone starting out in the hobby and you could get playing that very day!
@@Dasein1 at nearly 3x the price do you see parents buying that for their kids as their first ever warhammer purchase? And are the minis easy to put together and can you play with them unpainted?
I ordered my Plague Marines from a LGS in Japan on pre-order waaay back when they were first spoiled. After shipping, I managed to get them for around $60 USD. I was more than happy to pay that because I knew how expensive they would be. I'm thrilled that other people get to enjoy them now. They are absolutely stunning models.
Thanks for the video! I was going to pass on this box, but now that I know the Nurgle sorcerer is included and the board is double sided... I feel the need to paint a Deathguard team using Pallid Hand colors. My vote is you paint up the Plaguecaster.
They did do a rerelease of the Death Guard with the sorcerer last year, but they flew off the shelves fast and being sold for insane amounts for the boxset or the dude alone. So this release? This release is amazing.
Love this set. It's a perfect "game in a box" to get people who are interested in kill team or 40k in general in to the game! The MDF terrain and color molded models make the skill level needed to try it out super low, which is great for kids or people who aren't as interested in the modelling side of the hobby.
I think I have just decided to go out and get this Kill Team Boxed Game tomorow , Sunday. Provided Games Workshop Croydon is open tomorow Sunday. The MDF scenery looks like it's good for the big Warhammer 40'000 game too.
Actually the re-release of space Marine heroes series 3 from 2 years ago added the sorcerer to the box for territories outside of Japan I know this because I bought two such boxes in Canada one from my flgs and one from a GW itself. The one that came from the GW itself immediately went to Canada Post and into the mail for my brother who lives in an area that doesn't have a GW or an FLGS he could buy it at. The one from my flgs went to me
You can see in your video at 5 minutes 50 seconds when you say that the sorcerer is not included in the box if you look at the box on your screen with the 157.90 highlighted it shows that the sorcerer is indeed in that box so that is indeed the re-released box with the sorcerer inside.
If you really want to play kill team, get hivestorm while you can. This box is very much an intro box that if you want to play the the full game you have to buy a rulebook, mission deck, full terrain, and equipment stuff in addition to the starter box. Those add ons which are included hivestorm cost more than hivestorm. You can maybe get by without the rulebook using non gw web sources but the gw lite rules on their website does not cut it.
yeah that's the whole point of the box though, you can try it out, have fun with friends and if you want to invest more later for proper games you can. Not everyone wants plastic terrain and a crazy amount of rules, I think it's a cool option for those people. This box isn't for Kill Team players, it's a starter set for those who haven't played it yet.
@bradp6452 It's terribly priced for an intro product too. Normally you lead with a steep discount to get people in the door. Instead this is $8/models - tied for the worst retail full price per model in all of Kill Team (10 Scouts for $80). This could have easily been packaged into 12x16 at $80 and put on board game shelves- but instead GW filled a box twice that size with mostly empty space and slapped a $112 price point on it - same specs as the AoS and WH40K starters that have Full Ruleboks and THREE TIMES the plastic ... This was turned into an old-head cash grab on the previously limited access Space Marine Heroes sculpts and nothing more. :(
@martylund8411 The war cry starter is I feel worse. Here you get full teams. Emberguard will likely be similarly priced but is at least the full game experience. The interesting thing with the space marine heroes models is that I am not sure if gw even makes the sprues since they are round instead of gw trapezoid.
Agreed Hivestorm is the better set to really get started. With this set you have to make additional purchases to play the real game, that will put it above the price of Hivestorm. I can find Hivestorm for 200 USD all over and this starter is mostly going MSRP at 112 USD (I am sure it will be cheaper once the new wears off). So for the additional 88 USD you get 2 story plastic terrain (2 story really needed to get the real feel for the game), the full ruleset, 22 minis (vs 14), and the ops cards. It actually feels like a no brainer to me. If the new starter was 70 USD then the value would be there to make this set stand out and really draw new players in. As it stands this is just a pull for established players to get 2 sets of minis that were previously hard to get a reasonable price.
Asking someone to start out with a $200 Hivestorm box is some craziness man. Most new people aren't going to be willing to spend anything close to that
On the MDF terrain - I've been a bit wary of card and MDF terrain options since moving to the West of Ireland. Just not sure how it would cope with the humidity. But that looks like it's quite well sealed.
I have the Death Guard models but not that elusive sorcerer... wasn't going to pay scalper prices for him. Very glad I'll get a chance to add him to my collection now! Nice that everyone who wants them will be able to buy them.
I absolutely love the fact both of these sets of marines are available again. I missed out on both these waves and am very happy that I won't have to pay scalper prices to get them
Ordered mine today. The fold out data sheets with wound tracking space is handy too. Wood, sorry, would be great to see an MDF gallowdark/ ItD set, as they take ages to paint!
@MediocreHobbies If you're careful, you can paint out some small sheets of nurgles rot and stretch them out til they break in places, then paint them up to look like flayed skin.
One thing you didn't cover is if it is worth multiple purchases. . . I bought multiples of the 8th edition starter with the snap fit space marines vs the snap fit death guard and i will buy two of these to match. . . I imagine the conversion opportunity is there and the snipers van run solo while the marines can be split into proper armor groups
Well the sorcerer won't be going for £70 for much longer that's for sure. Even though I don't play Marines or Nurgle, I might buy this as the sculpts are really nice.
I can't wait for the rules to the Death Guard team since i already got the blind box ages ago. Might still get this starter set for learning the game we'll see.
+ looking forward to seeing you paint some of these. Nurgle Sorcerer is probably the most anticipated, but that depends on what chapter you paint the Primaris dudes.
Weird that they included 7 models from each team as they’re both 6 unit elite teams but I guess you can either choose the sniper or heavy gunner on the Angels of Death team and you also have a spare Plague marine model to swap out to try different team builds so that bit of variety is also a welcome addition especially for new players
8:38 Cheap. Affordable. Accessible. Those words arent in the dictionary at Games Workshop 😂 This box does look decent though, and I don't even collect these armies, but I'm a sucker for a bargain. The WH40k standard starter set is crazy good value as well, especially for me as I collect Nids. It's the combat patrol, which is £100 just without the barbgaunts. So.
I think I like it. I've been doing more 3rd party MDF terrain. And if I don't have to paint it that's even better. As @derek said, storing "real" terrain is a pretty tough job.
Me and 1 of my brother just jumped into kill team. So far Ive bought the Hivestorm, and he his long wanted ork kommandos. Looking forward to both painting and playing KT in the near future. Ive also pre ordered this box, my brother will buy the nurgle marines of me cheaply (we agreed at 250nok). Here in Norway the retail price for the box is 820nok, which equals ca 69eur, I got it with the preorder discount for 690nok. Been wanting to make an Imperial fist squad for a long time, anf this, with the IF upgrade box, and potentially a box of assault intercessors, should make for a good selection of marines to use in rounds of KT ^^ Good video, fun to see the insane prices these scarce models have atm on sites like ebay. Im very happy GW decided on this starter kit, else I was looking at roughly 3000nok to have all the options I want on my Angels of Death 😂
I bought the full space marine heroes kill team box last year for relatively cheap so not too bothered, I’m super glad they’re freely available now! Really miffed the new war cry box is NOT guaranteed to have all the minis in the box though, super disappointing from GW. Hopefully they’ll be in a future set like this
It’s a different type of box, this is a starter set. Hivestorm is part of the seasonal campaigns. If you have what you need to play already you don’t need the starter set unless you just want the models.
When I was in Japan, I noticed people playing KillTeam, and at the end of the game, they'd carefully pack away their mini's, and disassemble their terrain to flat pack it. Storage space is at a premium, and this new terrain would go over extremely well. I wonder if GW took notes watching all the players in their cafe in Tokyo?
Glad you put that video up because I almost forgot I needed to buy that boxset. For me the minis in it make it worth it and I wanted it simply for the minis.
I'm new to KT. I just read the Angels of Death rules, this set doesn't seem to be enough to build a Kill Team right? Since you need 1 Commander and 5 Operatives?
Yes! That MDF scenery is huge for me personally. We game away from home and I often have to lug around boxes of terrain in addition to my armies. This will make transporting terrain so much easier. Please please please GW release MDF scenery for AOS and TOW as well!
It is essentially the same price as the previous starter set, but it comes with far fewer minis, MDF instead of plastic terrain, a cardboard mat instead of a paper(?) mat, and cardboard tools instead of plastic ones. The value of the box is arguably worse overall; the only good thing is that it is beginner friendly.
All over this! I think GW may have got something right! Great review Andy! It’s excellent they simplified, especially the terrain, so it’s not too intimidating to new players, perhaps the best starter of any of their game systems! Delighted the scalpers are going to get thrashed! Top lads in Underworld gaming. Obviously you are going to paint them Flesh Tearers!
Yeah I think it’s their best ready to play on the day box they’ve done yet. If people want more, they can invest more at a later date but for fun games with friends it’s perfect! I haven’t actually decided yet 😄
@@MediocreHobbies I’ve been after the Marine dudes for ages! The thing is it’s really quick to get it up and running, and that is a positive, no glueing, no painting terrain and models, which to those not in the know could seem quite intimidating. Set it up and just get stuck in. You know it has to be Flesh Tearers!
Usually on these starter sets it’s hit or miss - yes I was initially meh in the msg - but looks lovey and the board is great In the US my usual go to game store is $95, free shipping … let’s say, I ordered more than 1 for Christmas presents (and not just for 😅)
This box is awesome. An excellent way to dip your toe into the 41st millennium. Get a budy, split the cost and now you got an opponent to roll dice against. And on top of that: ALL OF IT IS PUSH FIT! No tools needed, no glue required. You can just push it all together and get to playing in like 30 minutes or so. I've got plans for these models when they hit store shelves. Those marines are gonna look awesome painted as the Guardians of the Covenant (or whatever other chapter I might elect when I get my hands on em). And those Death Guard models are gonna look mighty good in Black Legion colours. (And will be a nice start to a Black Legion styled Death Guard force.)
I think it would be fun to paint up the Primaris as an Operations Team from the SM:2 game. Sure, it's not in world thematic, but I think it would look cool to have multiple chapters / colors on a single KillTeam, that's not your usual Deathwatch - KillTeam Black / Silver / Single colored Shoulder Pad.
I Had actually paid for the blind box of Strike Force Justian on Ebay 3 days before the Start set reveal, was luckily able to cancel my order and get a refund before the seller shipped them out, the entire starter box is like $50 cheaper than just the set i was going to buy
I bought 2 blind boxes, ended up with the Plague Spewer and the Flail.... wanted the Sorcerer (like everyone else) but i still count the 2 i got as a definite win!!
how deas it look for kitbash? i was hopping to make them deatch watch but i see pauldrons are togheter with torso....Can yuo check how this set working for any kitbashing ideas?
I would love if GW brought back something like the old Necromunda Bulkheads with new printed MDF terrain. I have seen a few 3rd party companies making pre-printed MDF. Is that a full rulebook? It says "Starter Handbook" on it.
@brionl4741 Yeah that would be cool to see for sure! Beginner players never need the full rules and throwing everything at them at the start often puts people off instead of encouraging them to play the game at a level they can enjoy. People complaining about the full rules not being included are already paying the full game, not what this box is aimed at.
@brionl4741 "Full Rules" that separate from Lite Rules + Approved Ops are literally like 2 pages of supplementary material telling you how to play on terrain and select Equipment + TacOps - something GW seems bizarrely insistent on putting behind a $65 paywall. Their money-making scams are insane.
I've already got two sets of the Death Guard figures, but I still bought the starter. I want to build the Plague Marine Kill Team, and can always mix the extra DG figures into my big 40K Death Guard army. What I really wanted were the SM captain, sniper, and heavy bolter for my Angels of Death kill team. Just buying the three figures I wanted on ebay would have cost me almost as much as the starter. 😉
Actually the Sorcerer/Plague Caster was in the UK release of the set. The set included all 7 Death Guard models and a box of 8 included all +1. Oddly the Space Marine one, at least the one I brought, didn't include one of every model. Despite watching 4 unboxings on here contradicting what the eBay seller told me about the box. But I was lucky to pull the Captain and only missed out on the sniper (down with phobos) and the heavy bolter (gravis is king) who I bought for £15 so with the price of the Blind Box box at £50 I may as well have waited for this set. But now that I have both teams I don't really need this set, though the terrain and booklets would be nice. IF I did get this set again I'd paint the Space Marines as Blood Angels and the Nurgle as either Black Legion corrupted or basic Death Guard. I've already painted mine as Red Corsair corrupted marines, with a detailed background to the squad, so DG is winning as I miss painting them.
But will they actually produce enough of these boxes so that they can sell some to people who are interested in getting started? Or will they sell out in the first few minutes to people who already play 40k and want the cheap models? And who will then then just throw out the rest of the stuff.
Best thing about this new box, and it really is a doozy, is that its screwed over the scalpers. And that truly does put a smile on my face. If I had one teeny TINY gripe, I'm less a fan of coloured plastic rather than plain grey - I just find it less easy spraying a base on it. That is absolutely the worst thing I can say. Hardly a blip.
Will you be painting some of the better models? I’ve just ordered this, hoping I can convince my 9 year old to get into the hobby. I love your tutorials so be good to follow you on These miniatures.
@@MediocreHobbies the captain and sniper for space marines and the plague caster for death guard? I’ve just started a death angels army too, I’ll be following your lion video very closely 😂
MDF is nice, very nice for the price to be honest. But in my opinion it only looks good in a bigger and more advanced structure. Other than that, this box is a good deal for collectors.
I don't play any GW games, but I really wanna pick up a copy of the board once people start splitting boxes on eBay. It'll be perfect for games of NEKROPLANET!
Tragically I don't see that translating so well in Australia. The previous box was selling in one store at a discount for $312.00. I can see that with this terrain and the figures they are going for a lower price point but the only thing I would really be interested in would be the plague marines to supplement what I had. Could be a challenge to get the same effect in painting.
Yeah it will be perfect for that! You can play straight away instead of trying to build and paint all the terrain before they get distracted by something else haha
I was surprised by the relatively low buy-in cost for this. I wanted it for the cool marine characters that I intend to buddy up with Titus. Intrigued by the pre-painted MDF scenery too. I'll probably end up trading away or selling the Deathguard as they don't float my boat.
The tears of the scalpers are delicious
😂

Me and 1 of my brother just jumped into kill team. So far Ive bought the Hivestorm, and he his long wanted ork kommandos. Looking forward to both painting and playing KT in the near future. Ive also pre ordered this box, my brother will buy the nurgle marines of me cheaply (we agreed at 250nok). Here in Norway the retail price for the box is 820nok, which equals ca 69eur, I got it with the preorder discount for 690nok. Been wanting to make an Imperial fist squad for a long time, anf this, with the IF upgrade box, and potentially a box of assault intercessors, should make for a good selection of marines to use in rounds of KT ^^
Good video, fun to see the insane prices these scarce models have atm on sites like ebay.
Hopefully they’ll be in a future set like this
Cracking value box! Would love to see any of these minis being painting on the channel.
Any specific ones? Will definitely be doing a few!
@@MediocreHobbies DG plaguecaster or banner bearer…. SM heavy bolter or the captain! Look forward to seeing what you do 👍🏼
Do we get to see your Sanguinary Guard at some point?
The nurgle box set, the latest release of it before this kill team box did have the sorcerer in it.
I'd love to get this one but aren't most of the Marines the exact same ones from Space Marine Adventures: Tyranid Attack?
What snipers do you use? They look like they cut really close/clean
I just ask this if u got hivestorm is this box necessary
It’s a different type of box, this is a starter set. Hivestorm is part of the seasonal campaigns. If you have what you need to play already you don’t need the starter set unless you just want the models.
Just bought this for me and my buds , can’t wait to start playing
Hope you all enjoy it!
@@MediocreHobbies thanks we just gotta learn to paint em😅
I have lots of tutorials plus will be doing some on this models as well. You got this!
@@MediocreHobbies oh nice dude , I’ll definitely check them out and looking forward painting them 👍
When I was in Japan, I noticed people playing KillTeam, and at the end of the game, they'd carefully pack away their mini's, and disassemble their terrain to flat pack it. Storage space is at a premium, and this new terrain would go over extremely well. I wonder if GW took notes watching all the players in their cafe in Tokyo?
Yeah maybe!! Will definitely be a great help even for bringing terrain to different gaming places!
Rooh great minis for the price... and those MDFs walls are a timesaver.
Glad you put that video up because I almost forgot I needed to buy that boxset. For me the minis in it make it worth it and I wanted it simply for the minis.
Yeah I can see a lot of people just getting it for these guys alone
I'm new to KT. I just read the Angels of Death rules, this set doesn't seem to be enough to build a Kill Team right? Since you need 1 Commander and 5 Operatives?
Looking forward to playing this soon
Yes! That MDF scenery is huge for me personally. We game away from home and I often have to lug around boxes of terrain in addition to my armies. This will make transporting terrain so much easier. Please please please GW release MDF scenery for AOS and TOW as well!
Here's hoping, would love to see what else they'll release in MDF!
Also didn’t the old starter come with a proper rulebook rather than a starter handbook? If this had a rulebook, I’d be all over it.
Spot on.
The previous starter set was literally twice the RRP lmao
Everyone is going to put different value on it depending on the reason for getting it, if it’s not you that’s totally cool!
The amount of models is irrelevant as the two warbands in this box are more elite.
Also the board in the box is made of cardboard
I would like to mention that the boxes were not completely randomized. If you bought the 8 count box you would get all of them guaranteed.
I say that in the video?
Usually on these starter sets it’s hit or miss - yes I was initially meh in the msg - but looks lovey and the board is great
In the US my usual go to game store is $95, free shipping … let’s say, I ordered more than 1 for Christmas presents (and not just for 😅)
Ohhh nice! Great gift! You deserve it 😂
Does it come with a SM transfer sheet?
There's no transfers in the set!
Painting the Plague Caster as another in your series on painting rare/limited models would be cool. Even if he’s not that rare anymore.😂
Hahaha good idea!
Aren't the ULTRAMARINE markings sculpted on?
Nope nothing sculpted onto marines. You’re free to do what ever you like.
@@MediocreHobbies Excellent! Thanks for that. Crimson Fists they shall be then! :)
Bold of you to assume I have any buddies at all lol. I have only the lonely to split this between
The pre order is £57.38 here in blighty 😜
That’s so good.
So happy I work in a hobby shop, this box is so cheap for me 😂
It's an exceptional price compared to the price point for the heroes set on the primary market, never mind the secondary market...
Oh wow that was lucky!
@MediocreHobbies very much so
I never bought the hero figures. The prices were that much higher than a normal box set so I didn't think it was worth it.
I bought 2 blind boxes, ended up with the Plague Spewer and the Flail.... wanted the Sorcerer (like everyone else) but i still count the 2 i got as a definite win!!
Can you paint lord invocatus tutorial pls🙏🏻
Would’ve liked more flavour with the loyalist marines but I like the set as a whole, hope to see more card terrain as it’s cheap and easy
Yeah looking forward to seeing what else they do with MDF stuff now!
You have no shame, because of you I am on my way to get my starter box set ^^
Hahaha
Can these be painted as Space Wolves?
@@battlehawk1263 they can indeed. Adding a few wolfy bits would be a good idea.
The terrain is basically the STC Ryza Ruins flattened. In case anyone already has some of those terrain pieces lying around.
Definitely getting this box latter down the road. Specially for the DG minis.
Yeah will be interesting to see if they release older sets in mdf now too! You’ll have plenty of time to pick this up!
how deas it look for kitbash? i was hopping to make them deatch watch but i see pauldrons are togheter with torso....Can yuo check how this set working for any kitbashing ideas?
I wonder if those kits are cast somewhere other than Notts. The sprues look different to the GW standard.
Those kits are designed and produced by Bandai in Japan originally.
@leeedward2574 that probably explains the exceptional detail then
I would love if GW brought back something like the old Necromunda Bulkheads with new printed MDF terrain.
I have seen a few 3rd party companies making pre-printed MDF.
Is that a full rulebook? It says "Starter Handbook" on it.
Nope, not the full rules. It's another scam since the previous edition had the full rules.
2:00
We got annouc first aos . For warcay set and that one is 5th
So rlise were 4
But will they actually produce enough of these boxes so that they can sell some to people who are interested in getting started? Or will they sell out in the first few minutes to people who already play 40k and want the cheap models? And who will then then just throw out the rest of the stuff.
@@craigwelter5862 it’s not a limited box. It’s on the shelves for the foreseeable future.
Ordered via your link, cheers
Aw thanks so much man
Best thing about this new box, and it really is a doozy, is that its screwed over the scalpers.
And that truly does put a smile on my face.
If I had one teeny TINY gripe, I'm less a fan of coloured plastic rather than plain grey - I just find it less easy spraying a base on it.
That is absolutely the worst thing I can say. Hardly a blip.
Yeah I know what you mean about the coloured plastic! And yes, always happy to see scalpers unhappy 😄
Will you be painting some of the better models? I’ve just ordered this, hoping I can convince my 9 year old to get into the hobby. I love your tutorials so be good to follow you on These miniatures.
Yes I will be, any specific requests?
Aw this would be a great game for your kid to get into!
@@MediocreHobbies the captain and sniper for space marines and the plague caster for death guard? I’ve just started a death angels army too, I’ll be following your lion video very closely 😂
It would be pretty cool to see a painting guide for this set
There’s a few on the way!
Size comparison with regular primaries would have been great addition
MDF is nice, very nice for the price to be honest. But in my opinion it only looks good in a bigger and more advanced structure. Other than that, this box is a good deal for collectors.
It’s designed for new people but yeah the models are good for collectors too!
I don't play any GW games, but I really wanna pick up a copy of the board once people start splitting boxes on eBay. It'll be perfect for games of NEKROPLANET!
Haha good plan!
Wait til the teams are out separately then?
I couldn't believe the price. No guilt picking that up.
got mine pre ordered, will be nice to learn how to play kill team with the kids
Yeah it will be perfect for that! You can play straight away instead of trying to build and paint all the terrain before they get distracted by something else haha
5 of the space marines came in the space marine adventures tyranid attack board game just the captin and sniper didnt.
I was surprised by the relatively low buy-in cost for this. I wanted it for the cool marine characters that I intend to buddy up with Titus. Intrigued by the pre-painted MDF scenery too. I'll probably end up trading away or selling the Deathguard as they don't float my boat.
Yeah it's a great price for new people
Dude… is that colored plastic!
Is GW going towards this now? If so, that’s awesome.
They have used this for years
Is this out yet?
Just up for preorder officially out in November
