For many, his concert at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2000 was one of the best shows ever seen in the Netherlands. On that sensational evening D’Angelo showed he is an outstanding bandleader as well as a charismatic multi-instrumentalist. He whipped his horn section - all of whom are jazz musicians - into a frenzy and each one gave the performance of their life. Afterwards, things fell frightening silent for him for quite a while as a result of artistic questioning and personal problems. But now, fifteen years on, D’Angelo is literally back and in top form. His new album Black Messiah (2015) has been dubbed a masterpiece and the show that the king of ‘groove, croon and swoon’ brought to Amsterdam earlier this year was a sensual, romping, sometimes raunchy and completely unforgettable soul spectacle. A unique opportunity to see this reborn master of soul hit the heights once again.

I can understand that statement actually late 90s! Both play several instruments and both carved out their niche in funk. HOWEVER (LOL!) Today I would say if Prince & Morris lacked .002% ego? Then they would be Bruno & Pak today! But thats IMO. D'Angeleo held it down IMO- till Bruno the dancing sultry singer whose Buddy came off the drums to go front man. But it Aint like you wrong! Peace

Right, I got all excited thinking he did a recent performance and was about to go look up tour dates, then I saw it was from 2015. I’m happy to watch the performance, but sad that I will not see him in person performing…it’s like his live performance at the Jazz Cafe in London 1995 when he first came out. Man, what I would have given to have been there. The audio is on Amazon Music. It might be on Apple Music as well…

I was there!!! He was really late.
That little riff they played at the start was played over and over and over again while everyone waited for him to come on stage.
But then when he did come on it was the greatest concert I ever witnessed 🤩

Someone said this performance was years ago. Wow, thought this was recent. D’Angelo is from Richmond VA, where I lived for many years. He’s a musical genius and an icon in Virginia and obviously around the world. This performance is everything. So happy to see him and this spectacular band and background singers!

D'angelo is a genius. Brown sugar and Voodoo will forever be classic albums. The Vanguard really tried playing all kind of music instruments. I love D. He is a good man in R n B. No soulquarians. This is the best show of that entire tour & you cannot tell me any different. Oh man, I ain't been THIS excited in weeks!!! What an unforgettable show! I can positively say that this show alone got me through 2020, so having it in SUCH incredible quality really means the world to me right now... I'm actually teary-eyed lol 🥲

I love how he got sound adjustments in being stealthy about it. I saw him and the drummer giving signals. First on was that first guitar lead. There wasn’t enough volume

My gawd the Drummer is everything!!! I think I saw him playing for Robert Glasper at one of his concerts before. Drummers hardly if ever get a break. Gotta be on their A game keeping the pocket all the way held down and in the pocket. I have no doubts that were he back in the day, he would've been another one of James Brown drummin' dreams.
