This trio right here are my favorites in modern day, contemporary Jazz music. Each is my favorite at their respective instruments. Just need to throw some Isaiah Sharkey in there and All-Star team's complete. Chris Dave is one of my biggest inspirations on the drums. Literally doesn't any get better than this. Love these guys so much. Yasiin Bey really got this one going to! Some really deep moments he reached on a mind, body, and spirit level! Peace to all!!

This is just so different than what you think of as "jazz." Here's Chris Dave with his cymbal trees, dual snares, and mounted bongos, Robert leading into "A Love Supreme" with "Oh Susanna" and Mulgrew Miller's "The Eleventh Hour," and then they add a rapper to the mix. And they pull it off. My ears aren't big enough yet to understand it, but I can't stop listening to it, either.
Robert's soloing on the first song is so patient, minimal, explorative, reflective and expressive. For me it's a demonstration of the highest musicianship, but I could also say the same of each of course.
Normally musicians when are young wanna play all the fucking notes lol, when they mature they play thr right ones. Not saying this is glasper, just thinking outloud

But if you listen to RGX performances from 2015, you'll actually hear them do this to Afro Blue, with Rob playing the Afro Blue melody and everyone else keeping chill. In other words, it was a designed piece that they whipped out in concerts. And they resurrected that move for this concert. So, by looking at it in that way, that's why I listed Afro Blue as its own song.

Thank you for uploading. I live at 43:59 Yasiin (Mos Def ) and Robert are gazing at each other getting into the groove. Mos as the emcee ( singer) feels and appreciates the keyboards adding a cool melody and beat. The interplay and acknowledgment between the 2 musicians is awe inspiring to watch. All the musicians here are so enthusiastic and joyful in performing together a unique collaboration of rap and jazz.
These guys are so inspirational. I love the restraint they all show and the mad respect they have for one another. Just the best rhythm section anywhere.

Prob my favorite performance of theirs. Derrick on another level for this one. Sometimes they've been hit and miss for me personally but this one is really peak playing. A shame about some of the audio (drum sound, clipping bass) but that's just the way it goes sometimes. Thanks for the upload.

Prob my favorite performance of theirs. Derrick on another level for this one. Sometimes they've been hit and miss for me personally but this one is really peak playing. A shame about some of the audio (drum sound, clipping bass) but that's just the way it goes sometimes. Thanks for the upload.
