He’s awesome I’m 45 and to be there during his Era was beautiful. It didn’t last long the industry was too much for him especially someone like him who grew up in the Church💕
Black Messiah is one of the greatest albums of all time regardless of genre. Not one song is worth skipping. The vibe matches any ambiance. The fact that he does all the vocals and plays the instrument only adds to its magic.
I disagree, so does Angie Stone , they shouldn't have distorted his voice like that . I don't care if they think it was more artistic to do so. Some of those songs are lacking something (J Dilla ?)..
Lissen. The MINUTE it hit, by the time I got to Another Life, I was POSTING it with the sheer emotion that EVERYBODY needed to HEAR what I was hearing. BUT, like many of our geniuses, Prince and Curtis, that WEIGHT of genius is no JOKE. That said, I bless God that He allows us to be gifted with even a moment of such beautiful brilliance….
And shout out to Tavis Smiley! This is beautiful journalism!!!! I love the respect he has for the artist and the thought provoking questions. You can tell Tavis is a lover and appreciator of music ❤❤❤
To be honest I’m not surprised. That’s usually how it is for some odd reason. Another good example of this is Bryson tiller. Go look up a song called Bryson tiller Let ‘Em Know, then go look up an interview with him just speaking regular and you’ll notice how deep is voice is compared to when he sings.
Prince is my favorite singer/musician of all time… when I first heard D’Angelo I could hear Prince all over him…one of the reasons I love him and how much Prince has influenced so many artists but he’s definitely one you can genuinely feel in his music ….I can’t believe he was able to sing that tribute when Prince passed it was so heartfelt 🥺

One of the hidden treasures of the UA-cam catacombs. Great interview by an intelligent and truly involved host and a fantastic artist. Bless you for uploading this!
I just stumbled on this, but this is one of the best music interviews by a non-musician I have ever seen. D'Angelo LOVED these questions. It's always refreshing to see someone recognize that great musicians are just people that really love music.
Tavis was also a close friend of Prince which D'Angelo would likely have been aware of before agreeing to do the interview, as Prince had appeared on Tavis's show to talk about some heavy topic as well as perform his music.
I'm glad he chose not to go that route. All of his albums are very different. Hope drops another soon. Preferably a double or triple album with around 18-24 tracks. Mostly all original material with a few covers of soul classics and a few old school way way back gospels songs.
I totally understand what you mean. He takes you beyond the physical act to a spiritual place of unity between a man and a woman. It's funny you said this. I JUSt had a conversation and a woman asked me what does it feel like from a man's perspective to be inside a woman. I told her just listen to this and played "How Does It Feel", and somehow, she understood it.
I'm pretty sure you don't look the way you did when you were in your 20s; and if you're in your 20s, just keep living. Life is a strange funny thing. It's filled with good times and bad, and sometimes the bad can take its toll.
D'Angelo like Sade, are the rare artists who's infrequent releases are highly coveted
DeAngelo, Sade, and Maxwell. They come out of hiding once a decade.
In my 26 years of life I have never heard this man talk before but his music has been in my life since I came out the womb. This is kind of surreal
He’s awesome I’m 45 and to be there during his Era was beautiful. It didn’t last long the industry was too much for him especially someone like him who grew up in the Church💕
You can tell D'Angelo is a real student of the craft. He knows music.
Black Messiah is one of the greatest albums of all time regardless of genre. Not one song is worth skipping. The vibe matches any ambiance. The fact that he does all the vocals and plays the instrument only adds to its magic.
yeah its such a great album, i love how its almost nothing at all like voodoo which would have been the safe thing to make, but he went the other way.
All 3 of his albums shifted Black music…but BM is indeed his masterpiece. And that’s saying a ton
I disagree, so does Angie Stone , they shouldn't have distorted his voice like that .
I don't care if they think it was more artistic to do so. Some of those songs are lacking something (J Dilla ?)..
I think Voodoo was an epic album - x2 of BM

Wow. First time I’ve heard him speak. What an incredibly gifted human being. One of the best to ever do it. Ever
I've never heard his speaking voice so different from his singing voice he reminds me of Jesse Johnson
same, I've been listening to his music for so long, but I'm only realizing this now.
❤

D . No matter what happens you have left a mark in the music books history. Nothing will change that

Definitely
His mannerisms is similar to Prince 💯💪🏾👍🏾
i was thinking the same thing
Such a spiritual being...I love his gift.
D'Angelo is just so cool and laid back! His voice is dynamic!
He also sounds like he smokes marijuana. No shade.
@@loriellajames6978 his song Brown Sugar is about smoking weed lol

30 years of being alive on earth, FIRST TIME EVER HEARING THIS MUSICAL GENIUS SPEAK.
WOOOW.
Same. I'm mesmerized.
An Icon ✨🖤 We miss you D ‼️
I got here from listening to several of Maxwell's interviews and he always gave tribute to D'Angelo. Man, I miss this vibe of music.

Spot-on. Masterful presentation by Tavis.
Innit, that's really what i was feeling watching this
Tavis is a thoughtful interviewer who usually goes deeper than the average interviewer.
Tavis was also a close friend of Prince which D'Angelo would likely have been aware of before agreeing to do the interview, as Prince had appeared on Tavis's show to talk about some heavy topic as well as perform his music.
This was such a great interview. Tavis asked great questions. DeAngelo is a deep dude
I think losing Prince so young really affected D' Angelo Will be interesting to see how it plays on the next album
Waiting to hear how D'Angelo responds to the questions is my favorite part of these interviews. Great exchange between both gentlemen.
Rare to see interviewers on this level that can really connect with the guest. He's really good at his job
His accent is so dope. This man is so talented🔥
He has a beautiful voice.
He so incredible
His voice in RDR 2's Unshaken Song is incredible.
That's what brought me to know this artist. I can hear that song in this voice.
Anything D is just 🙏
I love his music so moving to your soul and heart I wish he would give more live concerts I would surely attend. Such a musical Genius ❤
I love D’Angelo !!! Just everything about his music
Heard the name just passing and felt the need to research . Albeit, after this interview I'm a fan.
GOD Bless Grandmothers everywhere.
D'Angelo we need you to come back and do a very nice gospel album let me know when you do that
One of my favorite singer ever ❤️ ♥️.
His voice is very deep. He really is a baritone.
Trade Secret.... most "tenors" are 😉
Like prince, prince natural singing voice is falsetto
It's weed😊
He's a true bass actually. When you consider his falsetto, his range is just crazy. Very similar to Prince and Sly.
@@BassByTheBayhe's not a bass. Melvin Franklin of the temptations is a bass.
He is beautiful!!!! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉❤ Inside and out!!!
Love this interview with him
Me too!!😄
Great questions and great answers
Oh wow 🔥 this is so incredible 🙌
🔥🔥D'Angelo🔥🔥
Tavis is a wonderful interviewer
Love love this Man!
How can you not??
thank you so much for uploading
You are welcome. More to come.
Great interview.
Spectacular interview
I was with a couple of his bandmates tonight.
Thank you soooo much for this upload! one of my favorite albums and artist
We never got to hear much from him when his first album and cd dropped because he would not feed the old "pop machine".
I'm glad he chose not to go that route. All of his albums are very different. Hope drops another soon. Preferably a double or triple album with around 18-24 tracks. Mostly all original material with a few covers of soul classics and a few old school way way back gospels songs.
phenomenal interviewer
get this man some WATER
He said "Poland", wheeeew!!
Side eye. ..and great song.
Bring back TS. His PBS show was the absolute best
Too many allegations of impropriety. PBS; no, UA-cam; yes.
I just heard this song yesterday how does it feel and i heard gods spirit in this. Now the video was surprising when i saw it
God's spirit ? How? He's talking about how does it feel when he comes inside his woman?? Plz plz explain of you will

Can he come to SOUTH AFRICA already!

Me too sister, he need to come for a tour in sa. Can anyone tell him. We want him
to me the top 3 solo artists of all time are Prince, MJ and D'angelo, truly the greatest titans in popular music
Don't forget Maxwell and Marvin Gaye!
Yes yes😍😘😘😘
❤❤❤❤
We need the black
U r more in Music D❤
every time someone says masculine but has a falsetto side I always think of Frankie Valli lol
Facts... Frankie is STILL one of the best falsettos in the biz... he took care of his instrument... him & Little Anthony still have all their notes

It had to be in 2014/2015. The album was released in 2014.

Voice is deep and a calm aura
What year did this interview take place?
2014
Since when D'angelos voice go so deep damn wtf
"NIGGA" is that what a grown body adult interviewer calls you D'Angelo? really😳😳😳
He said NEGRO!!
D is still growing, obviously... give em time, sis... we All get there at different speeds 🙏💙😊
What’s the draw, soul brother, soul.
Ummm sorry Smile Babyface is the greatest song writer
True.
Jooo his voice is hmmmmm
(It’s not Holy Ghost, it’s Unholy-demonic-spirits enticing the people. THANK YOU)
Do you think he does witchcraft?
He looked ridiculous on snl
No he didn't
NGL… He’s pretty boring
What did you expect?
ХХХ
I hate he let himself go. I wish he looked the way he did in that hot video.

That's a silly thing to say. He's still incredibly attractive.
It's the weight gain that spoils everything when.people get older
That’s not true! It’s more to a person than the outer appearance!!
whats spoiled? nothing. watch his doco "devils pie" and youll get why he ditched that sex symbol appearance and all that came with it.
Wow what a ignorant comment 🙅
You’re ignorant caring about appearance rather than his beautiful character
🙄🙄🙄🙄
So nobody else freaking out that it says part 1 out of 4!
We need more of this.
