The grab handle was eliminated due to cab dimensions. There’s an airbag tucked right above you when you’re sitting down. If there were a driver side grab handle, it would fly into your face or forehead in the event of a crash. Would you rather live without a grab handle, or would you like to drive around knowing you won’t survive a crash if that curtain airbag deploys?
In the end, the dealers will always make a profit. Just walk into one and look around. How do you think all that overhead is paid for? Yes you paid a lot, but you said you wanted 6' bed and white and you got it. In the end you have to be happy with the vehicle. If the truck makes you happy, don't stew over this and don't worry what everyone else is getting or not getting. This truck is yours, it is a beautiful rig and it sounds like you will make great use of it for many years to come.
Dealers make their profits on people who come in and take a bad beat on their trade in because they either hate the vehicle so much, or want a newer vehicle with the bells and whistles.
Don't worry about the missing paint under the bumpers. Most of the truck will look like that soon enough because the paint is very poor quality and if a bird poops on it and the paint disappears they won't cover it under warranty. Former Tacoma owner.
For my use, daily street driving and occasionally some dirt roads, the lowest SR model made the best sense. Back in 2019 I was able to get an SR, 4WD, 3.5 with towing for well under 30k. Interesting about the white paint, I wonder if that's why white seems to always be cheaper. I thought is was that people did not like the white color.
I also bought an 19 SR for around 28k. My only gripe was the windshield washer spray doesn’t activate the blades when you want fluid. Easily resolved with a replacement windshield wiper intermittent wiper switch. If your SR is the same as mine and you want to upgrade, you can order a switch from a 16 Camry. They are the same as 19 Tacoma, but $40 cheaper. I work for a Toyota supplier and had 16 Camry at our plant for testing. They gave it to me after the launch of the new model since the vehicle had to get crushed.
i would not be to happy either ,they tried to get me to buy a Tacoma trd they only had one on the lot and told me they dont come any other way . said they have no pamphlets showing the difference finally i told them by dont like liars or miss leaders talk . was in Buena park ca. I'm assuming you've heard the Phrase... Buyer beware! When you're buying a new vehicle and you know the make and model you want, You go to Multiple dealerships, Let them know you're shopping around, And make them compete against each other! It works, I've done it multiple times!
Yes, that's the most logical strategy because that's exactly what I did. Like I've responded to other commenter's, if it's not in California at this time, then it's not a good comparison. Dealers here may not have the exact combination you're wanting and they won't budge because because someone else will buy it in a few days if you don't. The phrase, "it's a sellers market" comes to mind. Timing is everything, so catch them on a good day and you might get what you want.
Your tip is especially more useful for folks in smaller states where you should def let the dealer know that you’re willing to travel 5-6 hrs away to a neighboring state (bigger market) and deal with the volume dealer who’s going to give you another $2-3k off

Nothing wrong with single stage paint, especially for a off road vehicle, scratches can be buffed out until the paint wears all the way through to primer.
Single stage paint lasts longer. Seen a video of a guy buffing the original paint on a 50s or 60s car that was sitting in a junkyard in the desert and paint still looked good. Clear coat starts flaking off after awhile.
@@MrBlaze256 agree single stage clearcoat is terrible on the 2006-2011 Honda civics that have dark base coat paint. All of them have the clear coat defect flaking off. Also is occurring on the 2012-2015 civic, 2001-2005 civic, 2002-2007 accord
Single stage paint is a different paint process than base coat clear coat. Years ago all cars were a single stage paint. Not really better or worse, just different. There are pros and cons for both paint processes.
Your Tacoma trim is just a regular TRD 4X4 Off Road. If you wanted it loaded. You could have gotten the one that includes “Premium” package. It’ll say on every Toyota site. This is what you should have bought “Toyota Tacoma TRD 4X4 Off Road Premium”
I believe the painted fender flares have not been available on the off-road since the 2nd generation began... The 1st generation allowed you to get the painted over fenders with the TRD off road package in Black, Silver, and Red...
To lower the spare tire, you already have that tool that's on the floor. Connect those long pieces together and stick that in there and turn to lower it
Actually there are some Tacoma need the lock kit to lower the spare tires, I have a TRDSport 2005 and when I need the the tire I found out I need a lock kit to lower the tire, I think that what he callled the "Key"
He should have had the dealership show him most will allow time for that if you weren’t shown on pickup day. Even during covid my dealer went through and showed me everything and even paired the phone the map from phone is part of nav and shows on the screen
Late to the party here, but I believe the spare tire lock is an added accessory you pay for. Not included. So if you didn't get it then you won't need a key. OP, did you end up needing a key after?
Both the 4 pin and 7 pin wiring is already installed for trailer pulling. If you want to use electric brakes you will need the controller. But seriously who’s pulling a trailer with electric brakes with a Tacoma?
Honestly, if you're towing something big enough to require a brake controller with the Tacoma, you're gonna have a bad time. Trailers with electronic/surge brakes are more than sufficient for anything you should be towing with a Taco.

Not a huge deal I knew that,, but I’m not too impressed with the cup holders. My old 2010 tundra had adjustable cup holders. One thing I got scammed on was the spray on bed liner. It has the word Toyota on the bed. Which means it left the factory at TMMTX with it on. They charged me for it. They also lied to me about low credit score so I got a shorter term and higher payments so whatever it is what it is. Hope you have a great day man 👍
Most of what you point out, I’m fine with. However, as the owner of a 2nd gen for 14 years, you’re spot on about the lack of a drivers side grab handle and the drivers side storage compartment in the bed. I definitely miss those two things and have no idea why they omitted them.
And they only put one cooling fan on them these days as well. Not a huge issue unless you live in a really hot climate. If you bitch about your Tacoma AC not working great they will install a second cooling fan under warranty. All manufacturers are doing silly things like this these days, all about saving a dollar here and there.
Toyota’s 2021 spec sheet and descriptions all say the V6 standard tow package includes oil cooler, power steering cooler, and transmission cooler, so…?

Today when driving on the highway and the car in front changed from the passing lane to the slow lane, my trucks adaptive cruise of course wanted to hit its target speed....but at 6k rpm and it was sustained for like 10 seconds at target speed requiring me to take off cruise control. It’s called the “oh shit” handle when you have a bad driver.
The combination pencil sharpener/expresso maker was missing on mine!
🤣👍
Even with that...it’s still a great truck lol
The grab handle was eliminated due to cab dimensions. There’s an airbag tucked right above you when you’re sitting down. If there were a driver side grab handle, it would fly into your face or forehead in the event of a crash. Would you rather live without a grab handle, or would you like to drive around knowing you won’t survive a crash if that curtain airbag deploys?
I bet most people wouldn’t know about most of those things. And drive it for years
Exactly what I was thinking.
Pop and lock for tailgate. Game changer
They can get away with this because they know people will still buy these trucks. Ughh, all for their greedy pockets.
@Michael Paris no way. Who do you think I am? 😀

The black fender flares look more rugged. Nicer look imo.
Nothing wrong with single stage paint, especially for a off road vehicle, scratches can be buffed out until the paint wears all the way through to primer.
Dam that sucks.
Especially the clear coat. No clear coat means paint isn’t going to last long. And no UV protection.
Wish you could take it back smh
Single stage paint lasts longer. Seen a video of a guy buffing the original paint on a 50s or 60s car that was sitting in a junkyard in the desert and paint still looked good. Clear coat starts flaking off after awhile.
@@MrBlaze256 agree single stage clearcoat is terrible on the 2006-2011 Honda civics that have dark base coat paint. All of them have the clear coat defect flaking off. Also is occurring on the 2012-2015 civic, 2001-2005 civic, 2002-2007 accord

The dealer ripped you off. Not Toyota.
ua-cam.com/video/YxA2AQjl1Bk/v-deo.html
I believe the painted fender flares have not been available on the off-road since the 2nd generation began... The 1st generation allowed you to get the painted over fenders with the TRD off road package in Black, Silver, and Red...
To lower the spare tire, you already have that tool that's on the floor. Connect those long pieces together and stick that in there and turn to lower it
Unfortunately this is another Tacoma rant video.
Right, there's no "key" needed to lower the spare. He has everything he needs right there. The amount of misinformation in this video is astounding.
The towing plugs are right there in front of your face. Just flip open those two flaps on the plastic part of your bumper to expose the connectors.
😂
Neither one of those plugs will control trailer brakes, you need a separate controller usually located in the cab for that
@Steven Rogers Thank you for clarifying.
@@stevenrogers2457 Tacomas do not come with nor does Toyota offer a factory trailer brake controller
Honestly, if you're towing something big enough to require a brake controller with the Tacoma, you're gonna have a bad time. Trailers with electronic/surge brakes are more than sufficient for anything you should be towing with a Taco.
Dude, the plug connector for the brake lights is up by the license plate...that plug isn't the one for the fridge. LOL

I was told they removed the grab handle because it caused driver vision obstruction when they came out with the updated version. The A pillar on the Taco is "laid back" some to lower the roof profile of the truck.
I have heard several reason why the grab handle is gone. And they are all bogus..........Toyota is cutting costs via parts and accessories.
