Ha! Glad you got it :) you also can control displacement with a ramp or animated texture as the mask in the displacement blender and control it in there. But I like controlling with fields too, and vertex mapping is def the best way for visual control in the viewport. Def posting this in the discord for the community! Thanks for sharing!
@@Greyscalegorilla Hmm, yeah Ill have to give it a try. I thought in a mix you could just drag and drop which material you want to blend between, but then I think the displacement might not work right.
Yes they are! They are from the new Colorful Abstract Materials collection. You can see them all here! 3dassets.greyscalegorilla.com/collections/3e24c3e1-39fe-43a0-96dd-23733a4d1221
Hi GG, What HDRI did you use for this scene and what is the red candy texture on the top half? I like this look. Figured out the Red candy texture just need the HDRI now :)
Thanks for the question. 1. The HDRI is #45 from our Pro Studios Metal Collection. 3dassets.greyscalegorilla.com/collections/edcdf057-28a4-49a7-96c5-d60dc93258bd 2. Maybe we need to do a scene breakdown? 🤔
How in the world did I not know about the reference node!? I need to look into the Node system. I’m still not as proficient in as I was with Shader Graph.
Thanks for the question. I looked today for a similar trick in octane but did not find a solution. Looks like the traditional workflow works just fine though. Bring both materials into an Octane Composite Material and use a vertex map to drive the transition.

Make more blender content. We also pay for the subscription, but we don’t get equal amount of content. Second option is to lower the subscription fee for anything but cinema4D.
@@Greyscalegorilla You can't say it, but I can. He's pretty cocky for a guy with a reel that looks like it's from 1998. Anyway, This tut saved me some irritation. I didn't know the Ref node existed and I was always annoyed that i would have to duplicate my materials to get different material IDs which SUCKS if you need to make a change later on. Now they're simply instanced! Thank you!
@@Greyscalegorilla Well if you do your homework you would know Im a software trainer (C4D and AFX), and had you paid good money for one of my lessons you could learn these tricks. Still not too late - you can book me, but Im not sure you could afford me!

Thanks for watching! Been trying to get that working for a while. Cheers!
你好,我一直在向我的同事们推荐GSG,它非常好用。但是现在使用BLENDER的人越来越多了,希望你们能更多分享一些blender的教程,比如说如何在搅拌机中更好的运用灯光材质一类的。祝你们越来越好。
this video is so clutch. opens up so much. thanks Nick!
Thanks so much for watching!
reference node has existed for quite a while, but good to see a refresher on it
Thanks!
Would love a tutorial for doing this in octane
Would a Mix material not work?
Thanks for commenting. Mix and Composite materials for sure work in Octane. They just aren't as easy to swap materials like in this example.

New the trick, but… are those all GSG materials ? They’re amazing ! 🎉

Yes, they are the new Colorful Abstracts that just dropped. 👉 bit.ly/4hbMLIi
Clever! Really nice work!

this is a very good one, thanks for that tutorial
Thanks for this! And thanks for watching!

It's pretty amazing what you can do with the Nodes.
is there a way to do it for Octane?
Octane also has material blender. And I think it does support Displacement. Can someone confirm?
Would love a tutorial for doing this in octane 2X

Need to use node material, I tried in legacy mode and didn't work :( thanks for sharing this.

Blender stuff incoming. What would you like to see?
Did this technique over a decade ago in Cinema 4D. Nothing new. Just different workflow.
Why didn't you make a youtube video so I could learn it too!? 😜
