    Dane, I’m 65 yo, threw the discus in high school, briefly in college and have always loved the field events. Watched the olympics and decided I’m going to train for masters. Your channel is awesome, brings back some forgotten muscle memory. Thank you

    Your videos are fantastic. I have a daughter in high school who seems to be a natural discus thrower as she’s broken 100’ as a freshman. I am trying to give her all the tools to continue building on that ability. Your training videos are definitely going to help.

    I’m liking this series a lot. I’d like to see a video on how you approach the path of the discus. I’m a high school coach and agree with your thoughts on comfort expressed in this video. I don’t have a lot of time with my athletes so when I see progress being made, I usually let them roll with it. But I’ve found a lot of my kids are limited by some bad orbit/path habits.

      Yeah it can be a lot to keep track of. We will be releasing more videos on technique soon, so we hope they can be helpful for you and your time. We are thinking of releasing a video on orbit for discus. Stay tuned and thank you for your feedback 💪

    Key things when throwing discus FORCE,TECHNIQUE AND RELEASE, don’t throw it to early because you will scratch and don’t throw it late because you will scratch what I did was practice on throwing without a disc and opening my hands right on time which helped me with perfect release time😊 and always make sure to use more of your legs when throwing and make separation between your upper and lower body this will help you throw even farther

    Thanks so much, these helped so much as a sophomore in high school. But about the release, every time I throw it keeps coming off the middle finger and my coach says that it should be going off the index like you said but I don’t know how to fix that. Any ideas?

    • @megokaboomwotblitz7129
      @megokaboomwotblitz7129 Рік тому

      Personally, I think you’re gripping too much of the discus, at least for me. Try to make sure your index finger is at the middle of the discus so it releases out of the index and not the opposite direction. Also, it def will feel uncomfortable at first but it’ll feel a lot more natural overtime. Btw I know this message is pretty late and I think you might have figured that part out already so yea 😅

    Still throwing the 2kg in the off season to build after a few months break .
    Throwing 2kg 42m ish now will be throwing the 1.5kg , ???
    Any tips on goin down in size , feels funny in stand throws but got some real speed in full throws so far
    Doin 66% with 2kg standing and full
    Then 33% with 1.5 mostly just walking down the field throwing for rhythm and to get use to it
    Got a few to really fly today by getting out of circle and just relaxing out on the oval

      This is all a part of training and it sounds like you do well with the rest day. Make sure that you ingest a lot of protein, sleep 8-10 hours a night, and do mobility consistently. This will boost your recovery and get you to hit those FAR THROWS.

    Hi Dane! I'm an older thrower in my 70's. I am not as flexible or as quick footed as younger guys. I cant seem to get the feel of a full throw so I use a modified South African approach. Can you help me get the most out of a limited approach? Also. Many of my throws skid another 20 feet after hitting the ground. So much wasted energy. How can I keep it in the air longer?

    Does the rate that the disc spins in the air matter? Are you doing anything with your hand or fingers to change the spin rate? I saw the comment below about the tube of toothpaste. Is that about spinning the disc?

    • @tommyromanowski
      @tommyromanowski Рік тому

      Yes. That’s why there are different rim weights for discs. If you get more of that squeeze with your finger on a higher-rim-weight disc, it will spin faster/go farther

      @@ThrowsUniversity Definitely feels more natural. I think I was sort compensating with my wrist for control of the discus, or at least the sensation of control and that caused the issue. I've had to start with lighter implements and work back up and work up in intensity of throws too.
