Y'know. I've always assumed the MP5SD to be a generic internal suppressed weapon but finding out that it turns super sonic bullets into sub sonic is really really cool.
They even did some prototyping for the marines with a sub/super switch.They put a little gas tank in it for overflow gases and added the switch to the sights.Bcs why not.

Oh man, back in the early 90s my Dept started a SWAT team and we were originally equipped with patrol shotguns and 3 Beretta PM12Ss. We supplemented them with a purchase of 5 HK MP5s from our county’s SWAT team along with some M16A1s. They had an MP5SD that we tried so hard to get but they wouldn’t come off of it. I spent 20 years on that team and eventually was the only original member but I still remember that SD. Those were the days.
I remember my first time shooting a gun in texas, and it was a glock 17, and beretta m92 and a mp5 (just the normal mp5), and I remember how you can just feel the mechanisms working in the gun like it was living, absolutely loved it

When I was a kid, I saw an MP5 at an airshow with a 4 position trigger pack. And for 25 years, fellow "gun nerds" were telling me I was mistaken. That it's "FA" or "3R", not both.
H&K probably has a more diverse trigger pack system than anyone else.

Apparently the Germans never played with the shape fit toy as a kid. The suppressor is a box tube in a round tube. I mean it works, but man is it unreasonably complicated.

MP5 is just too sexy, I'd have to go for the original, unsuppressed version. However, it's insane how quiet the Germans made an already incredibly effective weapon THAT WAS BUILT IN THE 60s!

Here in Germany the MP5 is pretty much the Standard Weapon of Police Guards anywhere from Airports to Christmas Markets etc.
I mention that because everytime i meet Americans who are also Gun Lovers in Germany they always tell me how surprised they are to see German Police seemingly have MP5s as Standard Weapon when guarding

The other reason the MP5 lends as a good suppressor host is due to the roller delayed blowback. Keeping the chamber closed longer keeping sound and hot gasses from escaping out into the reciever and ejections port.
Pretty cool that a firearm that can actively convert supersonic ammo to subsonic was created. The fact that this is pretty old, too, is even more impressive. I'm genuinely curious to see where gun technology will be within the next couple of decades.
With the way things are going probably sooner than later. People be crazy out there!
I think it's a bit crap. A compromise really and to do with tooling available and 9mm being the standard NATO pistol calibre. It would have been much better in .45ACP with a regular silencer because all it fires now is massively nerfed 9mm.
What I want to know is why them Germans didn't figure out how to do that with 5.56? Instead we gotta use 300 BLK for that purpose, and that's not the same.
@@lincolnpascual Subsonic 5.56 is pretty weak. It would be much weaker if it was regular 5.56 bled off to subsonic velocities. 300 BLK supersonic is about as powerful as 7.62x39, with the subsonics about as powerful as 45 Auto +P. Both cycle in the same gun.
@@lincolnpascual 5.56 was originally designed to be fired out of rifles with 20" barrels like the m16 and relies heavily on velocity to be lethal, if you slowed it down to subsonic it doubt it would be effective on humans, definatly less effective than 9mm.
MP5SD is one of my favorite early wipe guns in Escape From Tarkov, I dont know if youve tried it in game but it works wonders at night with NVDs.
In real life, it's by far the worst gun for night vision lol

One of my first airsoft guns was one modeled after the MP5SD. It was so cool. So, to see the real thing in action is really awesome to me.
What i love the most about this gun is that it is basically a scaled down version of a G3
The fact that a there is a G3 in MP5 dimensions is terrifying though... (HK51 - a full auto flashbang dispenser)

Very surprised how close the MP5SD actually sounds to the suppressed MP5 in Call of Duty. Normally Call of Duty gets almost everything wrong, but I guess they did more than 2 seconds of research for the MP5.

I mean Infinity Ward with MW:19 has since had a knack for accurate representation of guns from recoil, sounds and reload animations. Pre-MW:19 and other studios like Sledgehammer, not so much...

Leave it to the krauts to make something awesome. It’s amazing how far firearms have come. I was looking through bass pro shopping for my kids and had to force myself away from the rifles cause they had a lot of classics.

I always wanted one of these as a kid. As an adult I got to play with one a bit. Only a handful of times.
The allure of the MP5SD is something surreal but to be honest if I could own on I’d prefer Brandon’s HDW set up. But it does miss the burst feature.
What surprises me is that people are absolutely surprised it’s no way as quiet as media/video games make it out to be. They genuinely believe suppressed weapons are like in the movies even people in the military are continually surprised.
I have a MP-5 22LR that looks nearly like this. The barrel extension has a cover the makes it look suppressed.

It's not massive but in enough places it tipped the scales in the Americas favor.
Brandon has mentioned that some of his first experiences with firearms in general was with black powder arms. So this might come to fruition soon, perhaps as a walk down memory lane for future Congressman Herrera.

Mp5 ""pistol"" is a bunch of fun. Formidable but unlike my mod2 favorite the .50 DE I wold get stopped too often if I carried it outside its guitar case.
Yeah one of those companies was being hawked by another guntuber. I called them up needing help with my VA claim and I've been inundated with fake scam calls ever since. It's annoying as heck! It got as high as 30 calls a day at one point.
God, I love the MP5 so much. Perhaps one day, I'll try and get a full auto one, but until then I'll make do with my AP5 clone. Thanks for showing these amazing guns off!

The first time I shot an MP5SD was 1980 - absolutely fell in love.
The porting is ~2" from the breach face iirc, and it drops at least 200fps off the round. Itll take 9mm NATO (which is basically a +P-ish round, 124gr at 1,250fps) and make it confortably subsonic.
Today on unforgotten weapons, Brandon reviews all the guns in every FPS game ever!
