The Wonder Weapons of Call of Duty Zombies actually won our last community poll, but that episode is taking a little longer as we are at the whim of the weapon box for the most part 😅
But have no fear, that episode is coming soon! (™)
Cant wait!!!!!
Never been happier for an episode delay if it meant getting to see Jonathan react to _Black_ sooner
sir, please do the weapons of enlisted.
you should do E.Y.E. divine cybermancy
Can you have the weapons of Timeshift up on a poll or put it up for a future vid or something?
"Someone has un-bullpup'd my bullpup, and I am furious!" I'm storing that for later
It sums up how I felt on hearing the French were phasing out the FAMAS. 😂
You will probably never have a genuine opportunity to use this.
British Bullpup is famously John's WWF title
10:42 That needs to be a t-shirt. "Someones un-bullpupped my bullbup, and I'm furious."
I would buy that shirt
Btw, which is the gun in the thumbnail?
@@fredfry5100it's a G36C in the thumbnail

bullpups are bad and you should feel bad.
My jaw actually for real just dropped seeing the notification. This game doesn't get talked about enough
Wanted to like this comment more than once. 👍
The best FPS of all time imo.
such a awesome game
Yeah it was purposely made to mimic Hollywood action movies, great concept
for real dawg!! this game was so fun on the ps2
The thing about Black, as was very briefly stated, runs very heavily on Hollywood action movie tropes. So the huge fireball explosions, the loud punchy bassy gunshots, the double capacity magazines reflecting the seemingly bottomless magazines of movies, all very intentional.
Yes indeed. I still have to say stuff however :)
This is an example of devs loving thier audience, just cause 3 has unlimited c4 bombs and its also a game that loves thier gamers
Alex Ward
Black is one of the most underrated games ever made.
What this game did atmosphere and graphic wise was great considering the hardware at the time.
Silver M16. If you know, your a true legend.
unless you are Brazilian, he is well known here
@@NightSentinel51 Was great once you unlocked it.
Imagine Black Remake mmm
It is certainly rated less than a good game, since it's not good
Didn't expect to see Black on this channel. I played this game soooo much on my PS2.
Me seeing "reacting to Black's guns": 😮
Me also seeing "reacting to blacks guns": 😘
I still play it occasionally on Xbox. God bless the backward compatibility
It's because AveragePixel just released a video where he praises Black's gunplay. It's his latest video.
Ah yes the that one FPS game on PS2, that always make me scared as a kid because the checkpoint music especially on the level 2 in dark forest.
And that one guy with ballistic mask and vests charging at you with SPAS-12 coming out of nowhere.
Happened the same thing to me with the shotgun guy. Really scary
Ah the Treneska Border
I remember getting through the first level fairly easily... and then the forest level happened and for some reason it took me forever to get through 😅
The Glock really stands out as "Odd" compared to all the other guns.
The rest are very stylised and generally have quite muddy looking textures. Then we get this weirdly high-resolution, basically 1-1 scale Glock with the logo on the side!
Probably only one they got the licence and permission to use so got their moneys worth.🤣
@@Grover91that's where all of the game's budget went to
Iirc, it's also one of the most powerful guns in the game, able to one shot the bullet sponge enemies.
Glocks are literally the easiest guns ever to model.
@@purplebatdragonlearning more about guns made me realize how silly it is that one gun which uses the same caliber doesn’t one shot but another does
MGS3 Snake Eater with Snake's geeking out over the M1911 custom. PLEASE!?
Yess. I want to see him react to that exact scene :D
And the Colt Single Action Army!
If you call SIGINT with any weapon equipped, he gives you a ton of details on the weapon. I'd love to know how accurate it is.
I loved that scene
Really cool detail in mgs3, it's very hard to see, but on the XM16E1 when the mag runs dry, the bolt catch actually pops out
My ingame accuracy was like 5% because of how long id spend having imaginary gunfights with all the destroyable terrain
TBF the spread in this game is horrendous too
lol once I beat the game, going back in with infinite ammo and killing everything was fun XD
@@SoulKiller7Eternal the silver guns were very cool looking too
@syrusalder7795 and if you did it on the hardest diff, then went back in, you got a m16 with a built in grenade launcher lol.
Infinite bloop tube.
@@SoulKiller7Eternal you had to beat it on the hardest difficulty with no silvers tho, never managed that since i was a kid when i had Black
16:10 - „Too thick in the rear.” - Jonathan Ferguson, Keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries Musem in the U.K.
I spent countless hours of my childhood trying to clear this game on all difficulties. A must-play classic FPS. G36C is my absolute favorite gun in this game.
Still own my copy of this on PS2. This really needs a remake. Just imagine it on the Frostbite engine.
I'm not sure it would have the same charm
Please god no! EA would *butcher* everything lovable about this game.
It still holds up, no remake needed
I actually worked with a couple of the guys who worked on this game in Guildford. They had a funny aecdote about how they bought loads of airsoft guns for reference for the models and one day when playing with them ending up getting a visit by the police. Thankfully they were understanding.
That's pretty weird. Even if they had been real guns, it wouldn't be any business of the police, let alone toys.
@@jacobstaten2366 Welcome to Britain.
I want to see Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armories museum in the UK react to the weapons of Cruelty Squad.
This ^ Cruelty squad contains a lot of prototype guns and interesting weapons not normally seen in games
Yes. This would be the Gorbino's quest of Experts React episodes.
I wanna see him play it and slowly lose any and all of his sanity.
YES
I love that game.
Please Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK, break down the weapons from *METAL GEAR SOLID 3* before the remake comes out.
So many weapons in MGS3 to react and comment on like the Patriot's infinite ammo magazine, the EZ tranq gun, Snake's customized officer M1911A1, Snake whittling the pistol grip to use a knife for CQC, Ocelot's SAA juggling skills, The End's paratrooper tranquilizer Mosin Nagant, the Davey Crockett recoil-less nuclear launcher, Eva's chinese Type 17 mauser clone with her "bandit shooting" technique and Volgin's electricity discharging the 7.62mm bullets.
There are so many more other interesting trivias and weapons in MGS3 so please Dave and Johnathan, please consider making a video for the MGS3.
Aye its you again, keep at it guy. Don't stop the good fight and keep MGS 3 alive haha.
Comment to support the cause
I want to see this as well.
Why not wait until the remake is out when interest and traffic is higher and both can be compared
Here to ensure he gets the message
Firstly, can we please get an episode on the Valkyria Chronicles series?
Second, this was a well overdue episode. If you didn’t know, the developers of this game, who had previously made racing games, used airsoft equipment for reference for some of the weapons, and a few were stylized simply to look cooler. The guns in this game aren’t exactly the most accurate. I’m interested to see Jonathan’s take on them.
The launchers yes
I second the Valkyria Chronicles games. 1 and 4 are probably the most accessable. Unleash Jonathan on the Lances and the guns! He's gonna get a kick out of the Lenfield and Robinson from VC4.
Noticeably, if you find a box of Grenade Ammo and look closely, it's literally airsoft grenades that you're picking up.
I would love if Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK, looked at Valkyria Chronicles.
Valkyria chronicles most def needs to be looked at on this channel
I hope there is a part 2 to this! There are more weapons to cover in this game! Loved this episode!
That Ghost shirt you got there
What a wonderful day it is to know that Jonathan Ferguson, keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, is possibly a Ghost fan.
@@issackliener3065 Possibly? I'd say I'm a fairly rabid one :) Not the first Ghost shirt I've worn here either ;)
Time out to listen to "Faith"...
@@danpatterson8009 One of my favourites - underrated.
@@jonathanferguson1211 You, and the chaps Ricky & Elliot over on the Internet Today channel, have been sporting various metal band-shirts. My parents and sibling are big fans as well. This just reinforces the fact that everyone around me is far more metal than I am... 😅
So nostalgic. Probably the last game i played on my family's standard def TV. That said, that poor WA2000 lol.
This game's focus and attention to detail on gun style feels so ahead of its time in retrospect. This is before weapon inspects were a thing.
I have a laser pointer with a "telephone" coiled cable to the push button (pressure pad). You either use that, or unscrew the back of the laser, remove the end with the cable, then insert another end that has an on/off bar that you switch left-right to enable or disable the spot. It's for the STANAG 4694 rail.
Ahh yes, 2006's "Shooty Mc-shoots-a-lot and his billion of bullet buddies". Love this game and have lots of good memories about it even if it wasn't the most realistic. Thanks for high-lighting it!
This game was so cool back in the day! I’m surprised they never replicated this style… it was a blast!
They say that Bodycount was a spiritual sequel to BLACK. I don't see it... I would love someone to do an actual BLACK 2 and flesh out the convoluted mess of a story BLACK started...
As others have said, "someone has un-bullpupped my bullpup and I'm furious" is a golden line. However, I am still flabbergasted by the grenade launcher's reload.
I always thought the Elite looked more like a hand cannon version of a Walther P38
I remember playing black for the first time when it was released , beautiful game in more ways the one back in the day
Finally black gets some recognition this game is so underrated I'm happy you're covering this game
I remember the trailers for this game. No story trailer, no gameplay, no nothing. Just a nice dining room getting shot to pieces in slow motion over classical music... That was it. They really sold the gun focus thing over the gameplay. Even the main menu lets you know who the main character is. It's why I kinda still love it. It was different.
I was going to comment exactly the same thing... I saw that same trailer and remember thinking, "I just need that game." I didn't care what the game was about, just the thought of all that environmental destruction was enough.
When I got it I'd waste tons of ammo just shooting out windows and cars.
Good times.
i LOVED this game so much. i played it for hours and hours just blasting away. i always described it as a well balanced fps that was turned up to 11. everything takes 1000 bullets to take down but you have 1000 times the bullets you would get from a different game. and blasting holes in walls never got old. such an underrated game
What a throw back. My god, this game was so far ahead of its time
One of the best FPS games of the Xbox/PS2 generation ngl, I love how powerful and alive all the weapons feel like, Criterion really spent a looong time to get that Hollywood blockbuster feeling right
Which is funny because the enemies are total bullet sponges.
@@borismuller86 Yeah lol, there's like no dismemberment or realistic location based damage, was a missed opportunity, something like in Soldier of Fortune
Play like a true Hollywood action film too. Big mag and guns, lot of dust and explosions, enemy take mag and fall off high ledge like OSA is not watching, and the music.
And the voice of our protagonist 😮
It's a gorgeous game for the Xbox1, that's for sure.
About the M16 carry handle, there are goose neck rails that can be mounted to the carry handle which protrude ahead of it. Reference Garand Thumb’s M16.
Yeah, I mentioned this in the record. But this thing ain't it :)
Yay finally. I asked for this to be covered a few times so I'm happy to see it pop up on this channel.
My dream is a black successor.
Bodycount was so mid, unfortunately
Respawn entertainment team behind titans fall should do the remake
oh my god Black. that was my childhood
Booo yeah!! Thanks Dave and Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of firearms and artillery at the Royal Armouries Museum in the UK, which houses a collection of thousands of iconic weapons from throughout history. You both are the best for reviewing this old underdog game.
I remember playing a demo for this and being blown away by the visceral sound effects! Good stuff!
Black was released in a very interesting time. 2007 is considered one of the greatest years of gaming, ever, and for a game to come out right before that, would mean it would be mostly overshadowed by the upcoming games in the following year. Glad you took a look at this one. Cheers.
No freaking way, cant believe this
I saw somewhere the main animator for this game talking about how they wanted stuff more cinematic, so he had to change the guns and make it so every gun ejects towards the screen and such
been waiting for this one!
Black was one of the first games I can remember that had a selector with that allows single, burst and auto on m16 type platforms
This was my favorite game growing up
The reload animation for the M203 is so *weird*.
First the character ejects the spent shell; good, good.
But then they lower the gun like they're getting ready to shoot?
Then they raise it again to actually reload it.
It's like the PC keeps forgetting that it's a one-shot weapon.
They probably wanted to have the M203 cocked like a shotgun after firing, and didn't really though of the logistics of essentially going through the reload process twice.
Either that or they just wanted the shell to eject after firing because it looks cool.
I waited for this for so loooong!
Thank you for talking about this one. I'm actually surprised you chose to do a video on this one. Hope to see the Brothers in Arms weapons covered someday as well as the FEAR games.
God the sound design on this. 🥰
Never did finish the final mission.
It is a slog. SO many SPAS goons...
One of the most underrated games!!! Love that this is still remembered!!!
The amount of knowledge about so many various firearms that Johnathan has is so mindblowing to me
What im noticing is that Johnathon never notices that in some games Where a HK/HK style cocking handle weapon has its bolt locked back automatically when reloading, then after the operator replaces the mag they slap the bolt even though they didnt manual lock it back in, like at 4:42, where the MP5 has its bolt locked back automatically then slapped. The same thing happened in CS 1.6 where Johnathon reviewed the UMP45 and several times the bolt locked back automatically, same goes for The stinger in Valorant.
Would love to see you do the first 2 Soldier of Fortune games!
Wait, you guys forget with the P90, M249, R870, and the Spas 12 😫
Yeah! Would have been fun watching Johnatan reaction to spas 12 reloading shells into the receiver 🥲
I love this game! The bridge level is my fave. I remember actually counting how rounds it took to take down an enemy, 3 btw, but the hit animations gave them invincibility, so you could dump half a mag into them before they went down. The whole thing is so wonderfully over the top to ve goofy. And I love every second of this first person Hollywood action movie
Great episode. I'm sure Jonathan reacted to more of the weapons but they just didn't make it into the video... But I would've loved to see him reacting to the SPAS-12 taking doors off their hinges. A fun (albeit questionably realistic) mechanic that I wish found its way into more games.
Since we're viewing old games again, I'm bringing back my request for Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armouries museum in the UK, to break down the guns of the KillZone franchise.
bro that was a great trilogy but those were sci-fi, they weren't real?
I hope to meet Jonathan one day, he is my idol
He seems like an extremely likeable and knowledgeable person for sure
I didn’t realize seeing Jonathan Ferguson, the keeper of Firearms & Artillery at the Royal Armories museum in the UK in a Ghost shirt was what I needed today, but I love your taste in bands and classic games.
one of the greatest first person shooters ever. all these years later and i still play this game
This game was a masterpiece when it came out.
It had one of the hardest last missions ever
10:29 what even funnier there is a company that do make unbullpup WA2000, company I am talking here is Rhineland arms which they do make unbullpup WA2000 chasis for AR-15 and they call it R2000.
Wow. Thank you - first I've heard of that!
Much as I don't want Jonathan to suffer from exposure to cursed guns, this video really drives home that I learn a lot more about firearms from him explaining everything that's _wrong_ about a gun.
His dissection of the "MP5" is an excellent example.
Black was so far ahead of its time. It might actually have the biggest influence on my current gun collection and I didn’t even realize it
Jonathan should look at the guns of SAO Fatal Bullet and COD Advanced Warfare
G36C looks good!
Someone unbullpupped my bullpup and I am very angry.
What a wonderful quote.
Goddang it! Now I can never unsee that bent suppresser.
Black is the true embodiment of videogames, it doesn't need to appease the "expert" but they do appease the one that play the game as a videogame should.
Jonathan UK weapon man react to Buckshot Roulette 🤡🤡🤡
Glad to see guns from BLACK here being reviewed by jonathan which is totally unexpected as it was my favorite PS2 shooter that i also played when i was a kid.
btw when jonathan said while reviewing the Magnum, "largely fictional magnum revolver" it is a real firearm based on the S&W Stealth Hunter 629 which doesn't include those railings on it's top and despite it having a big recoil and single-action per shot.629 is a pretty underrated revolver.
Also with the M16,Jonathan forgot to analyze it which rifle it is actually based off,its the AR15A2 Government Carbine.
I know IMFDB says that but the resemblance is very superficial if you look at the actual model.
@@jonathanferguson1211 wow, thank u for the reply and reviewing the guns from my favorite ps2 fps game.Totally i didn't expected that haha i salute u sir🫡❤ looking forward for the other future gamespot videos with u there👍
@@QdR4Cs No problem :) As for the AR15A2, I'd disagree with IMFDB again there - the 16" pencil A1 style barrel is consistent with that but it has the pin for the auto sear depicted (and of course is full auto in the game). It's a generic AR15 carbine built on a select-fire M16A1 or similar lower. Let's be honest, it's probably supposed to be one of the US SOF carbines like the M727 - which had the fixed carry handle and early on a 14.5" A1 profile barrel, making that the closest official Colt carbine to the Black weapon but still not quite right. IMFDB is great but a) anyone can edit it and b) they either focus on the overall look or the opposite - fixating on specifics like barrel.
About the airsoft grenade comment... that's actually what happened. The game was developed by a British studio known as Criterion. Most of the dev team pretty much had little to no knowledge of firearms etc. or never actually shot or owned a gun in their lives so they went around their area to shop a bit and eventually amassed a sizeable collection of airsoft replicas they modelled and animated the in-game weapons on.
"Bit too thick in the rear" is a good one.
The reason the Glock's slide magically opens when you reload is because they forgot, or just didn't want to create a separate idle animation with the slide locked back for when the gun is empty, but they still started the reload animation with the slide locked back, so when the two animations blend together, the slide just retracts automatically. Most games have two separate idle animations, one for when the gun is loaded, and one for when the gun is empty and the slide or bolt is locked back, and now-a-days they often have two reload animations, one for when the gun has a round in the chamber and one for when the gun is empty. A lot of earlier FPS games didn't do that though, either due to time constraints or seeing it ingame and thinking, "Eh, good enough".
Aww, wanted to see Johnathan talk about the SPAS-12.
A lot of people have been asking for it for a long time, you have made them happy.
Now for my own drum to beat, Operation Flashpoint, it's kinda two levels of history now. Milsims and 00s game dev, and the 1985 setting with things like the XM177E2 instead of the M4.
I feel like you have done this before because I remember Jonathan reacting to the M16s wired carry handle but I'm always happy to see this game
The game that made me love tact FPS games so much. The guns and shooting in this game feels so good for its time man
I'm SO happy to see my favourite '00s shooter getting looked at! I'd love to see Jonathan react to the P90 and its excessive rails
YES my brother and I used to play this game on PS2 over and over, glad to see it’s still being talked about, now by the best on YT
Kudos to the editor who grabbed a clip of the "M4" with wonderful stirring music as 'Murica enters the chat. I laughed so much!
I'm surprised anyone else remembers this game. I loved it back in the day.
Absolutely loved this game. So underrated..
Love the JF episodes. Have you considered early sim-lite games like delta force, joint operations, SWAT, or Operation Flashpoint games? Could be a fun bit of retro gold.
9:45 what's most funny is how the suppressor is attached to the gas block hahaha, can't believe you didn't point that one out 😄
About time you covered this game
That cut down hk94/mp5 uses a sound sample from die hard for the gunfire noise. That's pretty cool.
Man, the music at 14:55 still give me goosebumps. The soundtrack was something else! ^_^

One of the best first person shooter games of its time that did not receive a continuation from its developer
I.... _could_ _not_ be more shocked to see a video, a RECENT video, on my beloved childhood game, BLACK.
Played this game years ago when it was made back compat on Xbox & absolutely loved it.
Never played it originally back in the day.
Did yall do army of two? I love the chrome and gold sterf
Finally!! Amazing game, awesome to see him talk about it
RPG sounds from this an Mercenaries POD give me anxiety.
I did not expect to hear the Father Dougal's Cows reference. Good one, Jonathan! Also good to see this sleeper of Criterion Games (yes, the Burnout guys) get some love - they did some wizardry on that generation of hardware. This is a freaking PS2/OG Xbox game!
the auto bolt forward on a G36 is either a solid slap on the stock or side of the receiver ooooor doing a little trick with one of the springs in the fire control group. although the latter just disables the bolt hold open.
This game is an Absolute GEM, glad we're keeping attention on it!
i loved that game back in the days. did all the difficulty too
I think a reason all these guns seem to have a side charging handle is so that they could have the same or similar reloading animations for multiple guns maybe due to time constraints or they didn’t have the resources to have unique animations for every single gun.
I never thought you guys would cover this game the nostalgia is real
