I'm not a WC guy, just looking for ways to improve my footwork and I must say this was simply amazing. I have a new found respect for WC. Thanks for posting.
A second video on the footwork subjects that you mentioned at the end of the video would be so helpful to see. This alone was very interesting as I do karate where all the rotation is on the ball of the foot. What an interesting prospective!
I would say a secondary reason for moving on the heels is so you're more balanced and can root your power downwards to absorb impact if you happen to be wrong; is in if the opponent shoves you or nicks you somehow in his attack.

Several years ago I signed up for a wing chun class and we did that movement a lot, without any explanation of why. In fact nothing was explained, we just moved like puppets. Thanks for clearly explaining the 'hinge' idea behind that movement.
I’ve trained WC and other styles for years. Your videos has really helped my recent dedication back into WC. Really helpful. What lineage are you if may ask. Ty for these ! ☯️

Although I agree that you wouldn't use that exact movement if a fight had already started, it's still applicable. When my master first came to the states he had to work three jobs, one of which was as a bouncer. When someone would try to use force to push past him, he would use this shift and turn to throw them off balance (caused by the sudden lack of resistance), and then redirect them back out the door. His was from Shaolin, but I think the important point is that it has two very different ways of being applied, the way shown here as well as from a "grappling" context. This footwork is also seen a lot to toss people when in the Muay Thai clinch.

Hello Adam, I'm nedw to wing cgun, and have one athome. however, as you mentioned in the !st footwork video. beginners are anxious to hit, fight, and learn moves. As I watched I thought to myself "This is me." that being said i was wondering well as curious to know. if it would be possible to put together a full training video with foot work warm ups, and moves on the wing chun.i find alone i focus on one or the other. id like to be able to follow along with the footwork warm ups as well as basic moves for beginners as i do watch other videos where its only wing chun dummy moves. For you you gain a new follower wellas fan.For me instead of watching different channels. I can narrow it down. i enjoyed very much how you explain the importance of proper form. As in the wing chun dummy videos is not given any attention. your one video has given me better understanding of the importance of this. I have already subscribed to and liked your channel. I look forward to learning all you have to offer through your teachings. Thank you very much for the help I recieved from 1st video. i look forward to seeing and learning more in the future.
A take it u mean 70/ 30 with ur front and back leg ,,thanks for the video really good u are a great teacher my friend,, aye stay in glasgow,,Scotland ,,hope, peace, love,,
The only thing I see that maybe we could improve would be.. instead of scooping his haymaker.. if this were “Wing-Chun” we would likely hit, in the first and second interception. Adam is showing footwork mostly here though, so that’s probably why.. just casual thoughts. Fantastic instructional.. that was just a Monday morning quarter back thing..
Great video, thanks! Do you move the weight from 30/70 to 70/30 before the shift? Or how does it work? Also, the water tag at the bottom of the screen gets on the way closing feets and making it a bit hard to see everything. Consider moving it out to a side or just remove completely.
hi Adam. if I'm not going to wingchung school anymore, because I'm being doing for long time. so I stop to go. now I'm practicing by my self. what your advice you can give me the best way to practice. thanks lot. 😊🙏
"You're not moving out of the way (your centerline), you're spinning the enemy out of the way (his centerline), so you're moving him, you're not moving for him".
Barry Lee, Wong Shun Leung's best student once said: If 70% of your weight is in the back leg and 30% is in the front and you kick....how much of your weight is in the back leg? Most would reply with 100% since it's the only leg you are standing on, but then barry would say that when you kick 100% of your weight should be in your kicking leg. What this means is that these numbers aren't really important but that you just need enough weight in your back leg to be able to kick with your front leg at any time without shifting weight back first.
In real fight, how should I stand dear Sifu? I am a wing chun guy too who practiced kick-boxing before and is used to boxing footworks, but don't know now how to stand in a real fight in wing-chun style.
Adam, in one of the previous videos you talked about palm strikes - cutting into an attack and causing a deflection. Is that something you can expand upon? Is it one of the proper responses to a straight punch or even a hook?I know jeet kune do has the same idea and I assume it was borrowed from wing chun?

Please do a video on why ip chun when doing chi sau and both arms touch uses so little movement. When u first learn it you do a full bong sau and it doesnt look like he really moves his bong sau elbow up at all. I mean he does move it but compared to a beginner its not much. I noticed a guy kinda almost hit him twice in the body. I know it wouldnt land in a million years its not that. My point was the second time he tried it I could see ip chun follow the energy didnt miss a beat and hit him in the chest before his attack finished. Assuming that you are being attacked and then you counterstrike by moving forward isn't very realistic. Boxers will be moving in and out and do some fake jabs followed by a hook. BJJ will do fake attacks and drops down quickly to grab both of your legs and then push forward. Wrestlers will move sideways, lower their center of gravity, and attack one of your legs. Wing Chun must find a way to move forward or sideway very quickly. Changing stance doesn't do the job. The question is, how do you make chum kiu 10 times faster in a real fight. Wing Chun should also be able to fake attacks using either footwork or handwork or both.
