Appreciate that! I’ll do my best to give lots more :) I’ve enjoyed watching reviews for years but got tired of hearing cheesy stock music so decided to start making my own 😂🙏
Orion is amazing! I love it. I think one thing thats very important for people to know before investing into jaycen joshuas 2 plugin is to understand his philosphy on how to use these plugins. People just kinda run in guns blazing and dont do any research about the tools they're investing in and think they're bad... when they arent just using it right. BUT thats just my take on it, great review!! Orion 1 - Knock - 0
Good take! I’m guilty of this myself as I like to try plugins out and read the manual/info after. Glad I didn’t completely fuck up the intention of the plugin though! 🙏
I agree with you 100% it’s kind of sad that he did a review on a plug-in that he’s been working on and understood, and then did a battle review on another plug-in and didn’t even look at the instructions. The end sounded like “orion” won by a hair, based on your final take. 🫠
I was watching the Orion Masterclass with Jaycen Joshua the other day and he actually uses Knock, too. His approach was like Knock for mixing and Orion for like a console type saturation.
I've learned that using this sparingly gives the best results. The cool part is you can combine Orion with Knock in the chain. The transient shaper and clipper are magic.
Thanks for this comparison. After you configured Knock and pull up Orion to check on the later part of the song at 11:44 and after Orion isn’t actively working.
Thanks for watching lloyd! Orion is on after 11:44, I had it hidden off screen unfortunately and used a screen shot for visual reference. I'll do better in the future to make sure I keep all the plugins open on screen while im recording 🙏
@@pluginhoarder ah…gotcha! That makes sense! Thanks for clarifying and again thanks for the comparison! I just got Orion because it is on sale bundled with the God Particle and wondered how it stacked up to Knock. Appreciate the time you put into this video. Keep it up!
Great review and great music! I have Knock so cool to see them compared. I agree Orion seemed to give a better sound just a bit quicker and with less fuss. Both are great plugins though
Agreed! It’s hard to know if the inspiration from trying something new like Orion was what led me to feel that way or if it truly is quicker to a satisfying sound, time will tell. Thanks! 🙏
Nice! I really love God Particle for subtle polish and dimension on busses or on the master. So I'm stoked to see what kind of extra beef this can add. Thanks man. Great Vid
It really depends on what you're going for, and I think you gotta two different things going on since of course it's hard to try to make each plugin do the same thing. The Orion is definitely making the higher information like snares another other non bass drums much brighter. Though the I think the bass seems bigger or fuller on Knock, and the other drums seems to be a little more aligned with the context of the track and allowing the non drum bussed instruments drive the track more than the top end drums. Great comparison, thanks for making it
Knock for Breaks, and chopped samples. Orion for the Drum bus IMHO. Both of them are dope. Orion has that console sound like the NLS drum bus hack is built in it. Ant go,wrong with either. It is ok to like apples and Oranges.
END RESULT: Orion made the bass/kick sound beefy and thumpy in a good way and gave the highs a little "gritty" saturation. KNOCK on the other hand made kick and snare sound more forward and clicky (sits better in the mix) but didn`t do the same "magic" with the bass like Orion. Because of this i go with Orion on this one too. But it`s a damn shame for me to have two great plugins and the agony of choice. 😃
Orion sounds good, but its CPU heavy.. Id like to use This AND God Particle, but the two together is already straining a CPU! let alone your regular vst instruments. ALSO, wish they had a MIX knob for COLOR.. A, B, and C do impose a certain flavor, but almost too much??? Wish I can adjust to taste!.. Thanks for the video!..
I had the plugin on my channel view so it wasn't on screen, I added that screen shot as a visual aid. It's engaged just didn't have the video of it. Sorry about that!
No, they are the same settings, I had the plugins closed at the end and was just turning channels on and off. I used a screenshot of each plugin at the end to show which one was playing. Good catch!
Good catch! The knobs were not turned down, I made a mistake and recorded this section with the plugins out of frame so I added screenshots for reference, this was my first UA-cam video so I was still getting used to how to record everything hahah won’t happen again 🙏
Orion just like the god particle is very CPU-heavy. For both not doing rocket sience that's a sign for nit the best coding. Sound is good. prices like in most of these cases all too overpriced, orion as well as knock. But doing the same stuff with stock plugins costs more time. ;)
When you are comparing both plugins, orion is in the default preset, is not a 1:1 comparison. And tell me wrong but, in the last comparison why neither knock and orion shows any input????
I should have made this more clear: Orion is not in its default setting, it’s in the setting I set up in the beginning of the video. Later on when I’m comparing the two plugins I forgot to leave them open on screen (I was just soloing the channels) so I put screenshots up as visual representations. I should have said that… Will do better in future comparisons, thanks for watching 🙏
@@pluginhoarder what’s crazy is literally a few days ago I thought to my self, “I wonder what that guy is doing now” found my answer 😂 universe is wild
Orion is way too heavy handed, almost disrespectful to the source material. Especially the saturation section, it changes the sound way too much for my taste. KNOCK sounds so much better, it's not even a competition.
@@wdkbeats yeah if your drums are already mixed good Orion is heavy. My drums are usually already saturated and properly eqd and compressed before I hit the drum bus
@@pluginhoarder Orion it was designed to give you a polished, large, and dynamic mix, especially with a focus on emulating high-end analog gear while knock focus is on helping producers get their drums to hit hard, punch through the mix, and sound loud and clean without distortion or unwanted artifacts.
@@pluginhoarder I get it, though. When people mention 'drums' in videos like this, the focus is often too limited to specific comparisons, which doesn’t fully represent what these plugins can actually do. For example, if you use reference tracks to gauge how your mix should sound, you’ll notice that using the 'C' option in the color section opens up the 1-3kHz range. This is great for both vocal buses and drums, and professional tracks tend to keep this range more open. Features like the 'lift' help make that group more solid, which is often referred to as making it 'stand up in the mix.' The parallel section adds depth, working similarly to wet/dry control. I could go on, but I don’t think it’s necessary. I love seeing fun videos like this in the community, but a lot of times, the deeper methods behind using these plugins don’t get the justice they deserve.

Turn down the amount of each of the modules
