Tim was awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Western Australia for his contributions to the arts. You must watch his acceptance speech, outstanding.
Haha you were thinking of the other word because that's obviously exactly what Tim wanted you to..we are his puppets 😂 Bo is quoted as saying Tim was a huge inspiration for him! Tim now mainly does beautifull serious songs, but ofc still sprinkled were humour.
I'm pretty sure every black person with a reaction channel on UA-cam gets recommended this song at some point. People love that moment of "Ok, where is he going with this?..."
Us Minchkins are loyal, the more Tim you play the more people will come to your channel. Did you know Bo Burnham grew up watching Tim? I've met Tim, nice guy but if you ever meet him don't call him a comedian.
Love that you “got it” pretty much straight after his switch up. Great reaction. It took me a whole lot longer the first time I heard it. Thanks for appreciating our Tim. FYI, there’s a whole bunch of slang/derogatory terms for redheads in here that most people from US don’t get: Ranga - from Orangutan, a red haired ape most commonly found in Indonesia Fanta Pants - Fanta is a bright orange soft drink popular with kids, fanta pants because orange pubes Fringe - better known in the US as Bangs Ginger nuts - ginger flavoured cookies, rock hard so they normally get dunked into tea or coffee to prevent broken teeth, but of course Tim just HAD to make it into a double entendre Bozo - the clown with the red wig Fire Truck - just what it says Carrot-top - ditto Blood nut - nut is head (not sure if that’s common in the US, but just for completeness) Match stick - back in the days before disposable lighters became so cheap, Red Head was a ubiquitous brand of matches in Oz Tampon - I’ll let you work out the origin of that. Not that I ever heard it used that way. And the phrase “If you don’t have a tinge of Ginge in your minge” - minge is a less than polite reference to lady-bits in Oz, UK and NZ. I was lucky growing up. I had brownish hair, so I never copped the teasing that the real gingers did. It wasn't until I grew a beard in my early 20s that the ginger came out.
It's really fun to watch this - especially since I've watched another performance many times - and this just shows his talent, cause this performance has another timing and accompaniment. Other great Tim Minchin songs: If I didn't have you (long version) - if you have kids followed by "Lullaby". The beat poem "Storm" is another great one. If you want to see another great musical comedian but in a whole other style check out Victor Borge. I absolutely love his performance with Michala Petri from his 80th birthday (should be one with english subtitles, since his back visiting his home country Denmark after many years in the US - he fled during WWII being of jewish decent. Despite him not speaking english, he was so talented, that he got an award as "the best new radio performer of the year" only a year after his arrival in the US.). There's lots of other stuff with him out there in english. If you want to check out genius composition and great musicianship the band "Dirty Loops" is where you want to go! ♥
14:17 There's a great song by Carly Simon called 'you're so vain'. Particular lyric's popped into my head at this point. If you know it, you know it. lol Look up the song, it's a really good song. And as soon as you hear the lyric you will also know.
People do have a habit of recommending this song specifically to black reactors. I understand why, but I kind of wish they wouldn't. It's clever and very funny, but I don't think it's the best introduction to Tim's work.
@@musicaljayden Yeah, you'll probably like that one. It's more touching/serious than comedic. He wrote it for his daughter. It's about Christmas in australia (which has Christmas during summer) and missing family when on the other side of the world.
Firstly he didn't write the score or the screenplay for either one of those musicals, just the music and lyrics. He did not write Matilda or Groundhog day and he is not the orchestration composer of either musical. Secondly he is not the writer of Upright, he is one of several co writers. How about you give the correct artists the correct credit please?

hard to pick a favorite Minchin but I gotta mention “Mitsubishi Colt”. one of the best combos of piano insanity and lyrics/poetry. sort of a beat poem. his most famous beat poem is “Storm” but there’s no piano in that one. still well worth checking out though. edit - just searched “Mitsubishi Colt”, there’s a version with piano transcription. mind-blowing.
@@musicaljayden Sorry. I am high functioning autistic, and you seem to be on the spectrum. I wonder, have you been tested or taken an online ASD questionnaire?
@@terryfall8915 interesting... i just took one and I got 18 out of 50, indicating "few or no autistic traits", definitely food for thought I'll be sure to let you know if I do get diagnosed
@QuakerLady To each their own. I watch reaction videos to listen to the reactors' observations. Some are annoying, for sure, but Jay got this just about right for my taste. At least he didn't let the video run while he was making his comments, and missing whole swathes of it.

Minchkins is the most amazing fan base name! And that's so crazy that i've seen bo burnham and I didn't know about Tim for so long..
He's brilliant as hell. I've been watching his gigs for 15 years. Bloody brilliant.
And that piano playing of Tim's that you first reacted to is from his song Dark side the awesome version

Pronouncing sword like swore. Inferring that there's a forbidden language

He does one called "3 minute song" where he puts a digital timer on his piano, sets it to three minutes, then finishes the song at exactly 0:00.
sick concept!
Weird Al Yankovic is most famous for his song parodies but also does band parodies, genre parodies, and original songs which are funny.

Agreed. Even though the reactions are often (usually?) more appreciative.
He pronounces Swords like that because that how it reads of course swords has a silent “W” just added for extra comedy value
