I have no sympathy for those who deliberately do not want to declare the food they smuggle into a country. I say give them a hefty fine! No, airlines don't and really can't verify visa validity. That's the job of immigration on the destination end of things. The main reasons why airlines can't / shouldn't is because visa approval depends on the nationalities / legal residency of the traveler, and the specific visa requirements for stopover countries and destination countries. Australia approves and issues the visas so at the end of the day, it's Australia's responsibility to verify visas upon arrival. Technically, an airline can only verify the documentation required to get ON their flights, not the required documentation to enter into countries, entry that is only required and approved once passengers get OFF those flights.
Singapore Airlines let him on with a fake PASSPORT, the visa was not their problem. Singlapore Airlines didn't check whether the passport was real.The airline is supposed to vet the passports.

No, airlines don't and really can't verify visa validity. That's the job of immigration on the destination end of things. The main reasons why airlines can't / shouldn't is because visa approval depends on the nationalities / legal residency of the traveler, and the specific visa requirements for stopover countries and destination countries. Australia approves and issues the visas so at the end of the day, it's Australia's responsibility to verify visas upon arrival. Technically, an airline can only verify the documentation required to get ON their flights, not the required documentation to enter into countries, entry that is only required and approved once passengers get OFF those flights.
Singapore Airlines let him on with a fake PASSPORT, the visa was not their problem. Singlapore Airlines didn't check whether the passport was real.The airline is supposed to vet the passports.
