The fines for bringing in biosecurity risk items, like fruits, vegetables, meats and seeds, have now increased from $360 to $2,440 with discretionary powers to increase that amount up to $20,000 depending on the amounts and concealment. Tourist, temporary student and work visas can now also be cancelled if they bring in banned items.

It should be more strict then it was because after watching this show for many years now, SO many travelers bring prohibited items and then the worst part THEY DONT DECLARE THEY HAVE RESTRICTED GOODS! It’s okay to make a mistake, traveling is stressful but at least admit to your mistake. If they keep brining restricted items in then they most certainly deserve the punishment.

Thank goodness. Sounds like they finally got fed up with people bringing in stuff they shouldn't and that the smaller fines seem like a slap on the wrist. Glad they're so steep now. Wow about visas being canceled for bringing in prohibited items.

It's cuz the US have been letting bad people or criminals if you wish get away with more and more and more to the point where it's so bad now we can't turn back. The criminals are terrible and the police have about had the s**** of it. The cops are getting worse because they're tired of dealing with the b.s. from criminals getting away with everything which makes the cops worse. I'm not saying cops are perfect but you try dealing with everyone they come in contact with is a Di-ck to them everyday.

No, I hide my cash and credit cards in different places on my body or baggage. Because of thieves or pickpockets. If they steal what is in my purse than I still have some cash or credit cards elsewhere. I didn’t do that in Paris when I was alone: the gypsies of the metro left me with no cash, no credit cards, nothing! One month after in London I separated all my belongings and saved myself! But of course, I don’t carry more than 10’000 dollars or euros, but a legal amount.

I watched a similar thing happen to a young 16 year old kid crossing from Mexico to US and the border patrol officer made him take a sip of the liquid containing fentanyl. And even when he started getting sick within 10 minutes, she never called an ambulance to help him. And then they end up finding out that his parents were being held hostage till he delivered the drugs across the boarder.

I've traveled to SEA countries before and were familiar with the cash limit, weapons, etc. and why. So I thought it was referring to fresh food and not shelf-stable products. I thought, maybe they're concerned about cleanliness. That first trip in, I brought a few packs of instant noodles and boy, did I got in trouble. Instant noodles weren't allowed 30 years ago because they contain egg.

How did the chinese woman (who couldn't speak English so sought out another passenger to help her interpret) get Australian citizenship when she couldn't speak English? Does Australia not have rules about that? As British citizens born and bred, emigrating to Canada, we had to prove that we spoke good English or French (Canada is a bilingual nation) as part of being accepted for immigration. I'm quite puzzled at this because it seems watching this show, there are many people with Australian citizenship, originally from other countries who do not appear to be able to speak English. Also what annoys me is that when faced with passengers whose English is not very good, the officers continue to use language that it's obvious the passenger isn't going to understand. Instead of simplifying what they are saying as in one instance here the dog sits by a Vietnamese guy's bag and the officer is explaining badly what it means "it means a positive reaction to narcotics" surely she realised that the guy probably didn't have a clue what she was talking about. She could have said "it means that you might have drugs in your bag". Surely they get taught how to speak to passengers whose English isn't good? I'd be astonished if they weren't.

The same thought are the same concerning the USA.. where someone tried to pay them (locals and citizens) over and above the minimum and did not last a day on the job. Besides the owner farmer of the land working, who else are willing to work in such conditions? USA used to have a "Bracero" program (not accurate on the word) where migrants are allowed to stay 6 months in planting and 6 months of harvesting. Agriculture is the backbone of any country otherwise they will import most of the goods from other country.

Right!! He should’ve called it “living being”… Or living creature.. How dare he refer to it as an animal!!! 🙄. Who cares what he called it? He could call it an ice cream sundae if he wanted to. It’s still alive and it’s dangerous to the country.

Saved them? Australia has nearly 50% of the world's known and historically recorded mammal extinctions. They themselves have introduced rats and other pests into their ecosystem and now they heckle passengers who take food with them. It's too little too late, half of their ecodiversity is gone, the other half in rapid decline
