How did the chinese woman (who couldn't speak English so sought out another passenger to help her interpret) get Australian citizenship when she couldn't speak English? Does Australia not have rules about that? As British citizens born and bred, emigrating to Canada, we had to prove that we spoke good English or French (Canada is a bilingual nation) as part of being accepted for immigration. I'm quite puzzled at this because it seems watching this show, there are many people with Australian citizenship, originally from other countries who do not appear to be able to speak English. Also what annoys me is that when faced with passengers whose English is not very good, the officers continue to use language that it's obvious the passenger isn't going to understand. Instead of simplifying what they are saying as in one instance here the dog sits by a Vietnamese guy's bag and the officer is explaining badly what it means "it means a positive reaction to narcotics" surely she realised that the guy probably didn't have a clue what she was talking about. She could have said "it means that you might have drugs in your bag". Surely they get taught how to speak to passengers whose English isn't good? I'd be astonished if they weren't.
What I don't understand is the risk to agriculture. The food has already landed in your country. The plane they arrived in is sitting outside, giving pest a chance to make their escape (assuming luggage was underneath the plane) so you seizing the food items doesn't change much
They are very close to Australia paired with the fact that Asian countries have a vastly different food culture to Australia and alot of their food products cant be found there, or are very difficult or expensive to find. The only question is.. how many citizens of Australia born, raised and educated are willing to work in a farm with minimum wage? no health insurance coverage and poor housing accomodations? The same thought are the same concerning the USA.. where someone tried to pay them (locals and citizens) over and above the minimum and did not last a day on the job. Besides the owner farmer of the land working, who else are willing to work in such conditions? USA used to have a "Bracero" program (not accurate on the word) where migrants are allowed to stay 6 months in planting and 6 months of harvesting. Agriculture is the backbone of any country otherwise they will import most of the goods from other country.
Your question is flawed. Why? Because in the US the legitimate employers would not be paying that low because a US citizen would file a grievance with wage & hour board. The employers that got busted in Australia know exactly what they’re doing by hiring illegal aliens for hardly any money.

And we got fine more for running red light or speed just over 10km/hr the legal limit 😒
@@shanessy888 i think it is because you can live and earn in Australia. The fines for these visitors are less because they are mostly tourists or relatives of someone living here and live for very short term in Australia. They cannot earn in Australia and they come with very limited money ($4000-$5000). So $400 is almost 15% of their total budget of stay.
Craziest episode of Is It Cake ever
1:26:08 I find it a bit annoying that they seem to think a big smile is going to get them out of trouble.
I am more irritated by the old woman pout 😡 Being an old woman myself.
It's a cultural thing. A lot of cultures smile and laugh to show discomfort or awkwardness.
surprisingly, most of people on this TV series did put a smile on their face not only them in the similar or even worse situation. I think its just their own coping strategies that they developed in that situation
People from Southern US States smile when apologizing. Northeners feel ofended, thinking them insincere. All in America! Different folks, different strokes.

Commit identity theft and no criminal penalty????
It may not have been ID theft and simply fake ID's and that also should come with a penalty but if she didn't make the ID's in the country that she's landing it, that's not a crime that they can charge for.

After 9 mins of watching, just a suggestion: when you ask someone a question, do not offer them the answer. Do not. Wait for an answer. Do not give them examples of what you want. Let them answer. Let their anxiety rise, possibly causing more truthfulness more quickly.
14:08 This is a perfect example of “looks can be deceiving”. This man looked decent and an honest man until he opened his mouth 😅😅
I guess I can't be a border agent. These guys are too patient 😅
$360 fines to the Chinese woman it’s a joke. $3600 is about fair to anyone else got fined.
If she’s neither citizen nor permanent resident, she should also have been sent straight back and barred from entering for a few years, after paying a big fine of course.
1:39:18 Lying? Nah! 😂
I don’t know why so many people insist on bringing food, and things to grow into a foreign country. Plus the fact that they lie about it!
Because they are not held accountable.
When I travel, I look forward to trying the local cuisine. Besides, it weighs a lot and I struggle enough with what clothes to bring...lol. Especially, when travel to a place where the weather can be both hot/sunny and cold/rainy.
I imagine it might be to do with wanting to cook food to taste like at home, we still don't have the variety of fruits, vegetables and herbs. Generally they weren't educated on why biosecurity is important, especially in Australia as an island country/continent.
Depending on when this is, they may not be available. In recent times with TCM becoming more available, many medicinal plants and herbs are available but at astronomical prices comparatively.
Not justifying, just speculating.

@@virginia2949 I can't say about now, but 30 years ago when I ticked 'No', I was missing context. When I saw 'food' I had to think what this means. I've traveled to SEA countries before and were familiar with the cash limit, weapons, etc. and why. So I thought it was referring to fresh food and not shelf-stable products. I thought, maybe they're concerned about cleanliness. That first trip in, I brought a few packs of instant noodles and boy, did I got in trouble. Instant noodles weren't allowed 30 years ago because they contain egg.
Nowadays with Internet, it was relatively easier to search information on this and you can use Google Translate. Smart Traveller website is always a wealth of information. Department of Agriculture website was extremely helpful navigating on what's allowed and what's not coming back into Australia.
However I'm acknowledging that Internet access are not yet universal and some travelers do travel 'adventurously'.
It must be so tiring for the officers listening to these lies every day from people who pretend not to speak English.

I find it somewhat frustrating that everyone is expressing a consistent sentiment of being unaware of the situation, while simultaneously indicating that their friends were responsible for packing the bag. Being honest and genuine is free and rewarding, lies is too costly. Well done Australia Border Security ❤ 🇦🇺
My God people carry alot of dangerous staff
They are in Australia for quite some time, but unable to speak or understand English. Very very weird.
Come to Australia to study but unable to speak or understand English.
Of course they speak it... Language skills out the window when in front of immigration...
they’re more interested in smuggling in exotic fruits and animal products 🥩 And identify theft 🪪
Whenever immigrants are breaking the law, they suddenly forget how to speak English.
yep Australia seems to think that asian and middle east people will change there values over time and become AUS when none of that is true ... there thinking is there is this dumb country called Australia that is easy to steal money from and defruad you dont even get in trouble for it so lets go there and take advantage of them and send there money back home to our country and just support our people while living there .
WELL WELL DONE AUSTRALIA !!!!!!!
I love our country ❤
Do not work if it revokes your visa. If you are eating a candy bar and you accidentally drop the wrapper, don’t even pick it up.
I have lots of good friends in US and on every visit I had no trouble I was treaded with respect .worst airport treatment was in Vancouver Canada . Second Germany 😊
Canadians are known to be polite! Too bad! 😢
Passanger: "my friend have wedding"
Security: "do you know how many times I hear that exact same line?"
Why are you so lenient with these crooks?
If I'm forbidden from entering, they don't need to worry about banning me, I won't ever go back
It amazes me why people bring stuff in that can be bought from the first Chinese/asian shop they come to.
What I don't understand is the risk to agriculture. The food has already landed in your country. The plane they arrived in is sitting outside, giving pest a chance to make their escape (assuming luggage was underneath the plane) so you seizing the food items doesn't change much
He is just hungry or tired already. Can you see it in his eyes? Tired, not frightened. But tired.
Is there a reason why most of the offenders are Asian? I was quite surprised by this.
Basically they have a high value on ethnic foods and also, if Chinese, have total contempt for any laws in general.
its the closest continent
Asians always travel with food. Just think of the millions of kg that got through. They whole system is a huge joke.
what did you expect?
They are very close to Australia paired with the fact that Asian countries have a vastly different food culture to Australia and alot of their food products cant be found there, or are very difficult or expensive to find. Thats why the Asian offenders are almost always food. It makes total sense tbh

Lord if they did this in United States I couldn’t imagine . they don’t play games
The tiny fine amount is a joke, you are simply encouraged people not to declare items they should have.
We do have that in Australia dude😂. It's called a working holiday visa.

Sorry, but I just don’t understand about the “substantial” fine. I’m not rich, but a $340 fine is not “substantial” in my books. That won’t even get you a day at Disney World! When I first heard them telling someone that it could be a substantial fine, I’m thinking several thousand dollars, not just $340.

They are animals though
It's an animal. What's your point?
Right!! He should’ve called it “living being”… Or living creature.. How dare he refer to it as an animal!!! 🙄. Who cares what he called it? He could call it an ice cream sundae if he wanted to. It’s still alive and it’s dangerous to the country.
Insects ARE animals. They're not plants, fungi, or single-cell organisms.
Question? when carrying cash over the prohibited limit, is not good and they can sieze it., but if you enter without any cash (using credit cards only) nobody carries cash anymore.. they doubt about your existence. SO WHAT GIVES?
Cash is often from crime money laundering.
All I know is Australia is way smarter than America when it comes to this!!! I can only imagine how background checks at the boarder has saved Australia!!!👊🏽💣 💥
Saved them? Australia has nearly 50% of the world's known and historically recorded mammal extinctions. They themselves have introduced rats and other pests into their ecosystem and now they heckle passengers who take food with them. It's too little too late, half of their ecodiversity is gone, the other half in rapid decline
And you know this how? Frequent traveler?
