Greetings from India! My recent visit to Scotland was a truly transformative experience. I had the privilege of being guided by a knowledgeable Scot who not only enlightened me about Scottish culture, food, traditions, music, and history but also deeply enriched my appreciation for this magnificent country. This is such a beautiful version of that song. It was my Granny's favourite song and we sang it at her funeral two months ago. Thanks for making me feel closer to her tonight.
I am SO STOKED that you are doing completely different arrangements and vocals on the songs you've done before. I LOVE THEM!!! Your voice and David Archuleta's were made for each other. It was so beautiful!!!! My album should arrive any day now! Yay!!!!
I have the first version on my play list. I love it!! It's outstanding, but I have to say, I prefer this version. I find it to have a greater depth of harmony and variety of vocal orchestration. It's really outstanding and I can't wait to hear my album when it arrives.
Just came back to listen to it again, think it is best to really hear all the nuances that way. Absolutely riveting. Something homely and captivating about this performance. You are the supervocalmen of youtube x
Great job, guys! I remember my dad, (rest in peace, I love you), introducing me to this song. He explained the meaning behind the song: It has to do with two friends-Jacobite soldiers-who were in a Carlisle prison. One was sentenced to death, while the other was let go. The “high road” is considered to be the road of death, both for honor purposes and because he will be in a place of no suffering. The “low road” is the road his friend is now taking. The song is sung by the POV of the man sentenced to death, therefore, “me and my true love will never meet again” and because he is being executed, “I’ll be in Scotland before ye.” It’s a tragic, but beautiful song.
I understood it was the Low Road that was the one where the person was executed. So you've got it mostly right but the speaker says "You take the high road, and I'll take the low road." So low road = death, travel through the underworld to Scotland. High road = life. The version of the story I heard is that they were both brothers actually, while the younger one was married with family and the older one had a sweetheart but was not married. They were given the choice of who should be executed and the older one decided that it should be him. I joke that there are no happy and peaceful traditional Scottish songs. I know it isn't true, but sometimes it seems that way and this is really a good example of it.
Cano Vea Very interesting about that they were brothers and all you wrote! As for the high and low road bit, I’ve heard that argued so much over which was the road of death and the road of life; I’m not sure anyone truly knows anymore. It sure is hard to find a happy one!
I can see why it wouldn't be clear, though never meeting his true love again does suggest the bloke who took the low road (as the speaker does) is dead. But I might be missing something. Either way, its an excellent song.
*I literally got tears in my eyes because of this beautiful song; the composition, the vocals, just everything about this song is so beautiful that I can’t describe it in enough words to do it justice.*
I think my brother sung this at his concert too during his Junior years in Highschool. The memories are surging through this song like a gust of strong wind, lol.
My dad would always play this on the guitar for me when I was a little girl. It's truly beautiful, and you two did an amazing job. Props to creating the most amazing version of this song that is so incredibly special to me.
There's something so satisfying about the way you stayed in the same position as the scenery changed while singing such a beautiful song like Loch Lomond😍 Once again, you've done a great job, Peter!
Peter Hollens GAHHH, there's too many to choose from! 😂As a long time Supernatural fan, I loved your badass cover of Carry On Wayward Son; your acapella version of December Song was absolutely beautiful too, both visually and vocally with the dark, mirrored room being lit up by the vintage light bulbs while you sang; I think my all-time favorite though would be your Amazing Grace cover with Home Free because man, Tim Foust really knows how to catch us by surprise singing 10 octaves lower than everyone else then COMING BACK UP TO SING IN YOUR OCTAVE! #shook 😂
As a proud Scotsman that grew up singing this song. I've had your album playing on repeat for the last 2 weeks and I enjoy it every single time. How you 2 sang Loch Lomond and arranged the song is exactly how my great grandfather and great uncles used to sing it (but with a heavier Scottish accent lol), and it put so much nostalgia in my heart, thanks. Incredible job and congrats on the #1 on the Billboard Charts!

Oh, my God, this makes me cry so..... Kids love, thank you so.
Dear peter hollens thank you for doing a cover of this song as it was played at my Nana's and papa's funeral and it remindeds me of them so thank y
Beautiful hearted people, singing a beautiful song. I feel so blessed to have found your youtube. May God Bless You and your family and your friends.
This is based on the fallout of the Jacobite rebellion. Leave it to the Celts to make a beautiful song about it. Nice job guys.
That is so kind of you to say! Thank you so much
Great job, guys!
Very interesting! Is this one of your favorite folk songs?
I understood it was the Low Road that was the one where the person was executed. So you've got it mostly right but the speaker says "You take the high road, and I'll take the low road." So low road = death, travel through the underworld to Scotland. High road = life.
The version of the story I heard is that they were both brothers actually, while the younger one was married with family and the older one had a sweetheart but was not married. They were given the choice of who should be executed and the older one decided that it should be him.
I joke that there are no happy and peaceful traditional Scottish songs. I know it isn't true, but sometimes it seems that way and this is really a good example of it.
Peter Hollens absolutely! Thank you for singing it!
Loch Lomond! Folk Music from Scotland and Ireland are my favorite! You really capture the spirit of it!
Thank you! What's your favorite folk song?
Peter Hollens, probably the Voice or Loch Lomond
scottish and proud! makes me so happy to see someone do a proper scottish song!
The Folk Album is fantastic I drive for UBER and have been playing it in my care tor the past few week my rider just love it
*I literally got tears in my eyes because of this beautiful song; the composition, the vocals, just everything about this song is so beautiful that I can’t describe it in enough words to do it justice.*
I love the revisits of these songs!
Thanks Jason!
This is probably my most favorite collab on UA-cam EVER.
And folk songs are poetic and relaxing unlike pop songs. Love it!
I think my brother sung this at his concert too during his Junior years in Highschool. The memories are surging through this song like a gust of strong wind, lol.
Awesome, Beautiful, Amazing, Stunning should I continue ? 😁😊
Aw thank you so much Philipp!!!!
My dad would always play this on the guitar for me when I was a little girl. It's truly beautiful, and you two did an amazing job. Props to creating the most amazing version of this song that is so incredibly special to me.
I love how it is on acapella. So serene and quiet and when you realize the back story of it hits even harder..
Bonnie Raitt dimming of the day is an incredible folk song that you need to give to us!
The “you take the high road and I’ll meet you there” harmony part scratches my brain so nicely
Oh my god! I am Scottish and love this song! You guys sang it amazingly and even nailed the Scottish Slang! Good job! 👏
I have to say, I've not heard David's voice in a long time, and combined with yours, it's an absolutely perfect auditory experience. Thank you!
There's something so satisfying about the way you stayed in the same position as the scenery changed while singing such a beautiful song like Loch Lomond😍 Once again, you've done a great job, Peter!
Thanks Miki! What's your favorite video that i've done?
#shook 😂
There's something magical about this song. Must be my British roots. Great redition of it too!
AHHHHH!!!! My two favorite singers EVER!!!!! I love this!!!!
Absolutely breathless....lm Scottish for a few minutes.. it just transports your spirit🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
So much talent! Such beautiful voices in so many ranges. I didn't know this music was out here! Thank you, Peter Hollens.
Peter, you always sound FABULOUS with anyone you sing with. But this song is awesome with David !! I'd love to hear you and David sing more songs together !!!
I hesitate....I am not sure it is good for you that a retired professor, whose love of folk music dates to the 60s! When first I toured London, Oxford, and Cambridge, I felt like I connected at the DNA level. This album touches my soul, for it longs for this very music (when the purity of the human voice combines with nostalgic lyrics connecting us to life). THANK YOU FOR MAKING THIS ALBUM!
I just love this song. I live in Scotland and this has always been my favourite since I was little. Just beautiful
You guys' voices sound so good together!!!!!!
Hey Peter, some ideas for songs to cover: "Light it Up", by for KING & COUNTRY, or really any of their songs. XD. all their songs are great.
Thanks Stephen! Is that your favorite band?
Stephen Brown my favorite band and my favorite solo artist??? Yes please!
XD, they are Peter. What made you guess that? jk
Yes yes yes!!!! Or Ceasefire or Proof of Your Love
We just need to petition this on every single new vid until it happens.
Beautiful Peter! I have discovered recently that I am mainly Scottish/Irish and English and it is so nice to have a cover of this beautiful folk tale that is done correctly and magical. Thank you!
Love this im Scottish and have been to loch lomond many a time this is my grans favourite song i loved it !!!
One of my favorite pieces you have ever done. I come back to this more than I could count. It along with your rendition of May It Be, stands as the greatest duets in your entire line up.
The best harmony I've ever heard. Loch Lomond is one of my favorite songs. The atmosphere of historical Scotland and the present landscapes of Oregon US are fantastically intermingled and well-coordinated! It's just Great! Thanks Peter and David for your sublime melody.......
A David and Peter combo is one of a kind!
It was great working with David!
Peter Hollens yes I'm sure it was
I think a David, Tim, and Peter collab should happen on this song! It would be a treat to see you work with two gentlemen whose voices compliment yours perfectly. I hope you can make this collab happen. ;)
Tearful and happy and something about it is about strength
HI! I'm Taiwanese. I love it. Your songs let me want to learn more about this kind of music. Keep going to make more music.
