Finally a car journalist that addresses the wind buffeting! That makes the Targa not the perfect 911. But then again, it's quite the looker. So that makes it the most desirable 911?
I have a 991.2 Targa 4 GTS - I’m surprised by how little difference the air deflector above the windscreen makes. But winding down the windows with the targa top down (open) makes the buffeting MUCH more tolerable. My car also has PDCC which means the head bobbling is not really an issue either - a useful option to have. Convertible just hasn’t got the right 911 shape for me when the top is up so that’s not a choice for me….
@@jay_b.. I’ve actually since fixed the air deflector issue (it was just stuck and needed a whack) - I do drive it with the top down quite often but I’d say by the time you get to 50mph, you can forget about having a conversation in the car. In a strange way I think the convertible with a proper wind deflector you put behind the front seats could be a much better solution if wind noise is the main concern for you. Good luck!
You know what else is good about targas, the fact that when you put the top up, it doesn't mess up the original coupe like roofline. This 👆👆is why I loved the old viper, the 812 GTS, the F8 spider even though these aren't actual targas
Been a fan of AutoTrader for two years. Your reporting and test driving is spot on. As for the vehicles I've only felt the purchase itch three times. This Targa is one of those. Love this Porsche 911 Targa. God speed man.
Love the elegant, flowing lines of the 991 and 992 Targas with their nod back to the early cars' silver hoops. Porsche have got that exactly right. Not sure about the wind noise issue, my 964 Targa is pretty quiet with the roof off which gives plenty of scope for enjoying the flat 6 thumping away behind your ears. Sounds nothing like the window down observation by Rory. Also there is no wind buffeting in the cabin, so your hairdo stays intact and it retains heat when required when driving with the roof off.... so buy an aircooled version. Still plenty quick enough for public roads.
Buy one now. Stick it in your garage along with the Heritage Edition watch luggage and the rest of the paraphernalia, sit on it for 10 years……£250k and then some. Great investment
Rory covers all the points. Excellent review. If money was no object... I would have one because it looks stunning! But I would have to accept it complete with its flaws.
My favorite non-performance porsche. I love em! You did it justice in this video. I'd rather have porsche houndstooth on my seats. Definitely not paying an extra 27k.
Targas good. All the open air you need without the flex. Ive always wanted a car with a targa top bit like the mk2 mr2 targa but with tinted glass panels instead. Looking at the stars or blue sky without the noise.
There is a contraption on top of the windshield that stops all of the wind buffeting. When you engage it the targa is whisper quiet and much quieter than the cabriolet. Come man you got to know these cars before presenting them.
Having owned and loved my Targa. They are such a practical GT car. The wind noise between 40mph & 60mph is a pain. But if travelling down a country road on beautiful sunny day you forget about it. Why do all journalists say you must have a manual gearbox? The PDK is so good it is always in the right gear and you can pull a paddle anytime you want to. In the 992 a manual the cup holder is in the wrong place as the car was designed as a PDK. This car is not a track car so a PDK as a GT cruise car makes every sense. The other point is this car is so quick that the PDK is the right option for a car with 450 BHP. How many journalists actually put their money where there mouth is? Having said all that I really enjoy Rory’s reviews! Keep up the great work.
Get an really nice original manual 964 C2 Targa for about £55k, spend about £20k having the engine rebuilt and converted to a 3.8 (with Lightweight flywheel and Clutch), add a 993 6 speed for about £6k, new BBS alloys for about £4K, new Bilstein adjustable coil-overs about £4K, a pair of Recaro pole positions £3k and about 3k for “stuff”. The pocket the remaining £40k a new one would cost. A classic correct air cooled Porsche that will only go up in value.
Great car, great review, made by the great reviewer. Thank you Mr. Reid! Off the record, I own 718 Boxster GTS (`19) with manual gearbox. Trust me, it is the way to go (manual), if you know how to handle a sports car ;)
Had the last of the aircooled 911s back in the late 90s a gorgeous black 993 C4S.. stupidly traded in for 996 GT3 .. truthfully never really wanted another once the Boxster, Panamera and fwd cars spoilt the brand for me BUT.... THIS.... stunning. really does hark back to better days and better cars.
My favourite 911...flawed or not... I'm not a racing driver so I don't need a GT, GT3, Turbo this and that. I don't even need the heritage edition.. The gold lettering I'm a fan of, but I could DIY
It certainly rains a lot there! Gotta have that top down though! As a kid in the '70's we had a 914 and I only had the valet key. The top was locked in the trunk. I had to drive "non-stop" home in the rain. Drive fast, stay dry!
The Porsche 911 Targa S is a beautiful sports car. The retractable roof is very cool. With a limited production of 900, I think car collectors will buy the Targa.
The targa is also my favourite Porsche. This cherry red color and interior is beautiful. Corduroy is nice but will wear out fast due to wear and tear and friction. Those seats will need reupholstering within a year or two.
Agreed that I would not be paying a 27k premium. Yes I love a targa too and love that people just walk pass and do not seem to have the envy that is associated with Ferrari, McClaren, etc that seem to cause a stir when ever one goes by with many car spotters taking photos and videos. I would not care too much about buffering and wind noise at speed living in London the land of 20 is plenty, your lucky to find a 30 mph limit!! As a GT travelling around Europe this would be my car of choice
Great car when you live in a predominantly dry climate (with good roads) ... so not the UK then. And with the +27K GBP Heritage uplift [stickers included] even less compelling.
Bordeaux red and black is the best interior colour combo but interesting seeing the cream contrast. Remember Porsche designed the beetle, so the beetle looks like the 356, not the other way around ;) :p
Just an observation I picked up that Rory Reid mentioned at 6:11. Does the PDK not come in 8 speed & the manual transmission in a 7 speed? Otherwise a great video with lots of 911 heritage👍🏻
Same I picked that up also. I also noticed he said 6 speed manual, not the 7 speed. The 6 speed is the more desirable one, as it’s the one that’s in the GT3 and GT4.
Rory. Excellent, honest review. Quite possibly the worse [ugliest] Porsche i have ever seen. Chasing the money. Pointless and tasteless. Expect better from Porsche. Not least when it comes to the classic 911. Thank You for the review. Truthful review.
You mention the PDK being a 7spd and the manual being a 6spd of but the 992 is using an 8spd PDK and 7spd manual for everything but the GT3. Does this car get the GT transmissions or is that a mistake in the video?
Love the paint. Hate the stickers.
Luckily it’s just an option
@@monke_cr4425 buts thats why anyone ones that its about heritage
@@ui4391 I had a stroke reading your comment

In my opinion, He the best car Journalist on the current scene ..

Thank you for the quick response. 😊
Is the wind noise loud even with the windows up for conversation? And is music on radio pointless at that point?
Even in Legos, I prefer when bricks are printed, not stickers. Gives them premium feel. :) The same with Porsches. XD
I died when I realized your sweater matches the car's exterior And interior colors 😂😂😂 You're killing it man
How did you type this comment?
What brand is that sweater ?
im not too sure about guys whom pay attention to these things.... i mean .... besides women an .... wellll women..... who cares? ..... killinnit? blah
Wow. Even corduroy is becoming a relic. Didn't expect to feel old watching a car review LOL

Production quality was through the roof with this video. Dayum!
Targa is a beauty. Simple and elegant. 👍

Lol "non performance porsche"
You understand that a 4S can hit 60 in around 3 flat.
Rory is a fantastic presenter. Keep it up!
And you've got the sweater to match the car colours :)
What brand is the sweater? A&F?
Honest review by the man himself, Rory.
I love everything about the HDE, except the stickers

Thoroughly enjoyed this Rory! Targa 4S is my dream car… couldn’t justify nearly £30k extra for this spec. Some expensive stickers.
*Targa is much better than Cabriolet. This car looks amazing!*
I had head toss once and it was worth paying the extra for it. 10/10. would recommend.
Most beautiful 911 for me so far ,and colour is cool too .😍😍

According to the spec he said, a guard red Targa 4 GTS would be the perfect one
Greetings from 🇨🇦! Nice review, Rory. Love the colour! Would definitely omit the stickers. My spec would be a black-beige interior with a manual.
Dude Rory your reviews are super entertaining!!!!
Keep killing man!!
That roof's right up there with the 2022 Ferrari Portofino M.
I’d take that in a heartbeat! Imperfect perfection!

I feel the same way. Even a base Targa would be a lot of fun for Sunday drives and more power than 99.9% of other cars on the road.
I love my 991.2 T4S but it isn't the sharpest tool in the Porsche shed. It does look the best though!
please do a continuous shot when showing the convertible action...no editing
If prices go the way of the 997 Sport Classic you'd justify the extra cost!

Love the gold lettering, beautiful touch 😍
They really should make a Targa Turbo S.
Come on, Porsche!
Always nice of Porsche to drop the occasional limited edition.
Meeen this guy is just chill. Watching carwow then this channel , just feel different.
That spec is perfect.
❤️the Targa too! I agree $27k for stickers and a nicer interior is a bit much.
After the Lambo..this is my favourite car! This 911 Targa..is also my big favorite!
driving this in the french rivera blasting music, and they say money can’t buy happiness
Targa is definitely the spec de juor. A convertible experience without the wind buffeting.
The Porsche 911 Targa S is a beautiful sports car. The retractable roof is very cool. With a limited production of 900, I think car collectors will buy the Targa.
“So basically children “ that got me😂
I swear every time he reviews a topless type car it rains
I ordered a Targa 4S 5 months ago.... white metallic with Bordeau red and black leather....hope to have it within a year
The targa is also my favourite Porsche. This cherry red color and interior is beautiful.
Corduroy is nice but will wear out fast due to wear and tear and friction. Those seats will need reupholstering within a year or two.
Love the fashion color coordination here.

i had the privilage to drive in this exact trim of the targa 4s hde and yes. this is very good.
Stunning The best looking 911 and the heritage design is beautiful
"There are rational arguments for buying a new Porsche, but we won't bore you with them." That's why we love to drive Porsche.
Jeez yeah they are boring. What a tacky heritage badge. No doubt dynamically brilliant but so boring ….dull
I want that car so badly.
I've started to like the 911 again since the 993.
My First love was a targa back in the late seventies
Great car when you live in a predominantly dry climate (with good roads) ... so not the UK then. And with the +27K GBP Heritage uplift [stickers included] even less compelling.
7:09 fat shaming and nobody cares, this dude is so funny and in love with cars, I just love him.
my favorite targa is the 993 glass top so beautiful.
Rory Ima need the brand of those nice looking sneakers
That interior looks so delicious 🥰❤️
Bordeaux red and black is the best interior colour combo but interesting seeing the cream contrast. Remember Porsche designed the beetle, so the beetle looks like the 356, not the other way around ;) :p
Like how your top nearly matched the interior 😊
Definitely will be ordering one in Chalk with the black Targa bar soon. 😁😁😁Great Review!!!!
The Targa is absolutely the last 911 i would buy.
Rory smashing it again!
Always nice to watch your review
That interior 😍👌🏾
Great review, love your work 👍🏻and what a car ! My favourite Porsche but wouldn’t bother about all the stickers and ‘out there’ interiors.
A manual option Porsche. Fair play. Nice to see
Of course it’s worth paying the extra for.
Used examples are for sale at dealers for upwards of £180k
Is that 356 footage from Beaconsfield Parade in Port Melbourne, Victoria Australia?? Wasn't expecting home town footage!
The only 911 I’d stake my money on. Not a fan of all others, but the Targa!
Nicely done. Nicely done.
At 3:03 He had that look in his eye... About to go buy one look in his eye!!!😂😂😂
This is my favourite Porsche!
Saw one of these cars yesterday. Beautiful cars
I had a pair of cordaroid trousers when I was 8 😂
That's just the sexiest car on the market right now, I love it.
This car is beauty ❤️
Love that Rory matched his sweatshirt with the interior
The Targa GTS is the best 911 for me tied with the GT3
Lol, "if your toupee glue is strong enough"
Love the standard car....probably not a fan of the special "livery."......but it is unique.
What brand is that jumper he is wearing in the car? looks like a stags heads emblem?
Mr Reid, seeing the cars you have reviewed in your career, can you review a gt2rs MR?

Extra point for Rory for pronouncing Porsche correctly :)
Hmm! Great review, not wild about the rhubarb and custard interior!
