    loved it . beautiful loco . have the left smoke deflector off 35011 in the garden . mrs uses the grab rail as a washing line . southern loco in a lancashire garden with a line of knickers

    A great loco can't wait to see her back. And in great shape. I'm sure she will be Another great Ropley/ Eastleagh overhaul

      TOPS was introduced on BR in 1972 after being given Govt approval in 1971. Initially it covered only locos, freight & parcels stock. Passenger stock was brought on line with a different system some time later.

    Excellent series, you Limeys have beautifully restored steamers, lots over here also, but don’t run them too often, the bastards! Thanks for the explanation of the chain driven valve gear, didn’t really
    sound like a good idea from the get-go, looks like alot were converted to conventional workings. Jolly good show from Albion, Pennsylvania!

    Work is now underway to get her back to service but unfortunately they are not going to return her back to the mainline at all

    Somehow I think that 34007 was not a TOPS number given TOPS was a 1970s invention...

      Yes, steam engines were number according to there region.

      TOPS was introduced for steam locos in the 50s/60s. It was used on diesels in the 70s.

    TOPS is not a British invention, but rather American. Guess which American railroad developed it?
