    Your experience and philosophy already applies to much more than Bonsai in my opinion. So I highly appreciate your thoughts and can only encourage you to continue. Most people will certainly see, as you pointed out, everything is connected. Furthermore, it gives the channel such a cozy feeling ... it's like listening to my grandfather and his stories he gained from a long time. Sweet memories.
    Thank you so much Milton!

    Burying the bonsai under a couple inches of soil is a fool proof method. We hit 16 degrees fahrenheit here in Seattle this past winter and all our bonsai friends did the same thing. Every tree lived. Some we didn't even bury and they were fine.
    Something to consider is the quality of the bonsai pot, which I think you shared in a previous video. If it's fired in high temperature fire, it won't crack when it freezes.

    Dr. Chang, the reason I enjoy your videos above other content creators in the bonsai space is because of your willingness to share your wealth of wisdom and knowledge in a variety of different subjects. Please continue to share your thoughts on business, family, philosophy, religion, etc. I am interested in what you have to say and what I can learn from you!

    I think you should post anything you want. I would love to hear some philosophy from you. I'm already here and I'd watch anything you produce. I wish I could post pictures of my progress because of you. I had a traumatized Dragon Willow that got eaten by a goat, it's been two years and this spring it bounced back with a vengeance from your advice. Thank you so much.

    You know I would love to sit down and have a chat with you. You’re a very interesting person. But I would only share bits of information because this is after all a bonsai channel. I personally would love to know your background. Interested in your property. Your corporate background. But keep it about bonsai.
    I think it’s best to use the recommended fertilizer for the plants you’re working with. I use 18 4 10 for most anything except confers. It damaged my Scheffleras. I changed my process on recommendations from the Bonsai Supply Company. So one fertilizer is not always good for everything.
    Love your videos have a great day.

    There are a lot of knowledge in bonsai that can be applied to everyday life. It teaches for example, that we can't control everything. We can only guide the tree, but not control it. Even if we could, it would be disrespectful, since the tree is doing most of the work.
    I do think, life advices would be a good content from you. You seem to have a very diverse background, and a lot of experience in a vast area of subjects. If I had to guess, you were never really laser focused on only one thing (tough that term is quite ironic considering your career 😅), and you were always interested in a lot of things at the same time. I think this channel could follow the same pattern.
    Your content is great nevertheless. Keep it up, as it helps a lot of us.
    Thank you!

    Hi there!. I´m not expert on the topic, I'm actually a begginer with only couple of Bonsai cultivated but I´ve cultivated cactus for over 20 years more less and I would like to share my expirience with cold weather and Winters in Chicago. I moved to Chicago 4 years ago and I hesitated to start cactus cultivation again. Last year (2023) I tried with three cactus considered as a cold hardy plants as below as -10F. I planted it in a shallow terracota pot and kept them outside almost the whole winter except for couple of nights that we reached -20F. Something that I did that I believe help them to bear the cold is to keep them in the porch under the ceiling. Having that cover made a huge difference and I can tell that in freezing nights, the water exposed to the open sky turns into ice for sure but the water under cover do not unless really extrem temperatures like -20F. I hope this helps and thanks for this videos and for sharing all your knowledge. Best regards

    Thank you for addressing my question. I caught a glimps of your little dog. Was that a Long Haired Chihuahua? I had 2 of them, they both passed on now, but I do have a chihuahua mix I got from rescue. She is my little buddy. But I really do miss my tiny little fur balls so much. Once my chi mix passes on I will get another long hair one. I just love how tiny and cuddly they are. Yours was beautiful from the little peek I got.

    Have you used Miracid fertilizer on bonsai? It seems like a natural choice for azaleas, but I have a friend who uses small amounts on many species and the foliage on his trees has such good deep color.

    Thank you for all the good information. How about in really extremely hot areas like south east Texas where it is constantly over 100° in the summertime. Do we put our bonsai in full sun? Mainly maple and ficus and some boxwood.

    • @MiltonChang-ee6rq
      @MiltonChang-ee6rq 21 день тому

      Japanese definitely in partial shade. Just have to water them frequently so the rootball does not dry out...if you cannot, trade slower growth by putting them ins partial shade...or set up a timer to water them several times a day...And put them in a tube to soak (like my Goldberg video), or plant them in a deeper pot.
      Enough options? Can't find nature, the rootbacll will dry out fast in hot days!

    Hi Milton, im a big fan of your content. I am about to plant my first juniper procumbens in the ground to thicken and mature faster. How do you care for it while it is in the ground? do you prune its? if so how do you do that process?

    • @MiltonChang-ee6rq
      @MiltonChang-ee6rq 21 день тому

      I would not prune it much, because Procumbens is a very rapidly spreading ground cover (faster than J.P nana), still it is slow to thicken. Oune everfy year or two to thicken and also gets closer to your vision as well.
      Take a lot of cuttings...easy!

    What are your thoughts on using petrified wood as wood over rock plantings?

    • @MiltonChang-ee6rq
      @MiltonChang-ee6rq 21 день тому

      Lovely idea I am not thinking of the beuatiful color of the "wood", rather the texture of the bark part. Color would distract from the tree.

    • @gmike10
      @gmike10 21 день тому

      In this case I have a piece of petrified wood that is very similar in color to the bark of the tree/exposed roots.
