If you don't know where to put the phonics books, and you have an empty shelf, you can always write their student numbers on the edge of each book, and then they would be able to each grab their own book off the shelf easily

Hi Shelley, I love your classroom videos and teaching tips! About the recurring ear infections,... a few years ago, I heard a physician on the radio saying that, after months of antibiotics and consulting with experts, he had managed to curtail his own son's chronic ear infection issues by simply not giving him any more milk products. His friend, a natural medicine practitioner had suggested it. And, apparently, it worked. I thought I'd pass the info along. I hope your family is in tip-top shape again soon. Thanks for being so generous in sharing.

We started school August 9, and had to teach virtually from August 24 until September 9 due to having no water pressure whatsoever at my school! I teach high school foreign language, and luckily I spent the 2020-2021 school year becoming very well-versed in virtual teaching. I feel your pain about not being able to be in your classroom, though! I’m glad to be back in mine, especially since my air conditioner finally got fixed after 2 years of being broken!

Love your vlogs Shelly you keep it real. I started school the last week of August and already I got covid and lost a week of school and since I am a teacher in P. R. we just lost another week thanks to hurricane Fiona. But all tragedies aside my kids are great and its been great in the classroom. Keep up the great work!!

We have been in school for a little over a month. As for call and responses, I am like you. I don't like them. I use a metal chime, and it works well. I have 4th to 8th (French teacher) and it works with all of them. I like your idea of teacher vs students for the refocus. I might use that with my 6th graders this year. I have 21 and they are super chatty.

Girl I hear you! My school year so far has started off really crazy :/
Everything from myself getting sick with strep wired viruses and pulling out my back to loosing my teacher aide the 2 nd day of school due to budget cuts :( having to do EVERYTHING on my own ugh
4 episodes of students having Covid or family members leaving me outside for long periods of time while my room gets sprayed down…
New student with no heads up and half of my class still on a pre k to k level and I teach grade 2!
I was seriously doubting my ability to emotionally make it through the school year. I have never felt like this and I love to teach but boy it’s been a rough one so far! At least I know I’m not alone!! Thanks for your encouraging videos❤hang in there!

I am starting my first teaching job next month. It's really only an afternoon club one day a week, but I am also still in my very last semester at uni. I would love some tips how to make reading lessons fun (1st and 2nd grade). Thank you, your videos are so motivational.

I was also displaced from my classroom, which happens to be a portable building. We have swamp coolers where I live and mine wasn't working for a month before they decided we had to move until it was fixed. I got to go into a classroom in the actual building, but it was essentially a storage room. Then, a week later, I was moved to another temporary classroom downstairs. And I am a SPED teacher, so I have kids coming and going at different times. I was given no notice when being asked to move from temp room 1 to temp room 2 or when told it was time to go back to my portable. Sigh. It was difficult. I wish I could have just stayed in the building, for many reasons.

How do you track progress with centers?

  • @pamelottabrown
    @pamelottabrown 11 місяців тому

Hi Shelly! Yesterday I was offered a long-term sub assignment and I found your vlog to learn about centers. Today, I accepted after meeting with the principal. One of the major needs in the class is managing behavior, the students have had 3 teachers since August 19th! My first day is tomorrow.
I am very interested in the Teacher vs. 2nd grade behavior Prize system you have on your whiteboard. I prefer using the doorbell system as an attention getter and would like this system to reinforce the behavior. By the way, I'll be subbing in a 2nd grade class.
Do you know where I can download it?

I remember having to move out of my classroom for a week or two during my first year of teaching. It was mid year, so it wasn't as annoying, but it was disruptive. We were in a spare new classroom that hadn't ever been used for a whole class at that point, and was missing a whole bunch of things that we needed - like somewhere for the kids to hang their coats! Not fun.

I must be buying the wrong things, shopping at the wrong places, or not spending enough money (lol), because I am NOT earning many points with Fetch. I've had it for about two years and I'm still under 40,000 points.

If you see this there are some AMAZING skip counting songs on UA-cam from HOPSCOTCH. My third graders LOVE it and the songs 2-6 are great! (7-9 are tricky and my kids didn’t love them as much)
It helped a ton with skip counting/multiplication
