  • In this video I show you 2 easy to use products to get rid of fire ants in your yard. Fire ants are a huge pest that ruin the enjoyment of your lawn. In some cases allowing fire ants to be in your lawn can be very serious since some people have severe allergies to them. They can also harm pets.
    The 2 products I show, get rid of fire ants in your lawn typically within 24 - 48 hours. There's the Ortho Orthene product which is great for spot treatment. It's a powder that you sprinkle on the ant hills when they're active. The nest is typically killed within a day. A better option is to use Advion fire ant bait. It's a product that can be broadly applied to keep ants away.
    Advion fire ant bait is a granular product that covers just under 60,000 square feet. One container is usually enough to get rid fire ants for a couple years in most home lawns. Get Advion Fire Ant Bait here: amzn.to/3cLjCCV

    Hellooooo Ron
    Thanks for the info. I never knew there was an alternative to the Orthene . Your lawn is so incredible. I’m grateful for your channel. My lawn is the best it’s ever been, I just started early this year with your instruction. No more stickers , nutsedge, crabgrass,etc. And now no more fire-ants. Winterizer application is down. Ready for spring. Going to be jump start for sure. Forget about it! I home you don’t mind if I call you my friend? God bless you Sir!
    As well I’m getting my tee and cap to sport when relaxing in my yard basking in the turf !

    Hey Ron! Thanks for the tip! We’re on about 2 acres and definitely been playing wack-a-mole with the Orthene and fire ants here in South Carolina. Whenever we get one hill, it seems like 2 more pop up.
    Any tips for using the Advion to cover 2 acres efficiently??

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  Рік тому +1

      For a property that size, get the bigger bag of Advion and apply with broadcast spreader. ron-henry.com/advionbulk

  • @richardgleason5953
    @richardgleason5953 3 роки тому +2

    Please allow me to add some more info here. I have used the Orthene product for many years. The odor is noxious to be sure, but it is quite effective. The Advion FA bait is also effective, but I would not apply it if there is any chance of rain soon after the application. Rainfall, or even applying on wet grass (from rain or dew) will greatly reduce the effectiveness. Another product for consideration is Trio G granular insecticide. It has three active ingredients...Bifenthrin, Fipronil and Lambda Cyhalothrin. One app per year is all that is required. I can attest to the fact that most species of ants (including the dreaded RIFA) hate anything containing Fipronil.

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  3 роки тому +1

      Great suggestion on the Trio G Richard. It definitely looks like a great product. Seems like it's a bit challenging to find but it looks like THE goto for ant control. Thanks for sharing it. I'm going to see about getting a bag and trying it out. Hope that all else is well on your end. 😎

    The Orthene has worked well for me but I agree, it absolutely stinks and smells like death mixed with rotting fish. It also likes to clump as well, which can make it difficult to spread. We don't have horrible fire ants, I just treat as needed, though we do have more problem areas (mostly along the drive way). They seem to love cement for some reason, but yeah I've thought about longer term products.

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  2 роки тому +1

      Agree it smell absolutely awful Last Hope. It does work though. Appreciate you watching!

  • @travelinghamburger6093

    Can the Advion be spread using a push type spreader? I have 2 acres i would like treat. If so what setting would you think? Thanks!!

    • @RonHenry
      @RonHenry  2 роки тому +1

      You can Traveling Hamburger. You'd go pretty low on the spreader setting. The product goes down at 1.5 lbs per acre so for 2 acres you'd need 2 of the 2lb jugs. There's also a 25 lb bag option that's better value. Just depends on how often you plan to apply. An application lasts around 12 weeks depending on rainfall. ron-henry.com/advionbulk I would start with a low spreader setting and slowly increase. The granules are pretty small.
