    The grabbing jaws on the Tsunoda (2:33) are there to pull the zip tie 'tong' prior to cutting it. Cool design and, of course, made-in-Japan quality. --- EDIT: After typing the previous sentences, I was wondering "How the hell do I know this?" as I don't even own those pliers. Until I realized it was thanks to Doc's video: "Snap On Killer? Tsunoda KBN-150 Cable tie cutter w/ gripping jaws are excellent" posted one year ago 😂

    Never loan out anything with a sharp cutting edge, because you know it will be used to cut something it's not meant to.

    and that's why, for flush cutters, I use the 5 for $10 amazon specials you reviewed a while back. I've gotten a few packs now, and even though I abuse them cutting copper wire all the time, none have broken and they are still sharp. It's great to have many pairs in different spots.

    I know that feeling about flush cutters. Many people don't understand what they designed for and what they are NOT designed for. When I'm working with my colleagues and they are using my tools, if I see them grab my flush cutters then I ask to see their certification to use them.

    Hi there! I used to grind my side cutters like that now for a few years already. And I asked myself why knipex didn’t do that already. Now snap on came first to market with an original engineered to perfection plier. Well done!! I love that stile and will always grind them off!! Just because snap on ist? to expensive and I can achieve the same results by grinding a normal set of pliers flat on the front.

    Doc, I had a pair of the 786ACF Flush Cut pliers, and to your point my wife borrowed them for a craft project and indeed ruined them. My Snap-on® dealer is a friend, and I told him exactly what happened, and he volunteered to warranty them. So I was lucky. But they now are marked “don’t even think about using before you ask grandad!”

    • @littlejackalo5326

      They'll warranty them either way. If your dealer doesn't, send them in to corporate. When they find out that you had to go through corporate, they'll tell the dealer to smarten up too.

    I think a good application is a wire cutter and wire stripper in one tool. A flush cutter will do a better job at stripping wire than a non-flush cutter. This assumes the flat part of the cutter faces the end of the wire. The flat edge bites the insulation better since there is no ramp to help the insulation slide past. The non-flush part will last longer and have good leverage while the flush cutting tip would be good in tight places like near connectors. I've used my flush cutters for strippers many times and they work well. The fine tip allows them to nibble a bit of insulation if needed as well. They don't replace strippers for all wires but they are handy.

    The flush cut is a great plier, does a excellent job. I have not seen the duel cut but i will put that on my list. I do agree with not loaning it out. Im on my second pair of flush cutters. Cousin used them to cut a metal coat hanger. It put just enough indent in them that they leave a burr.
    Thanks for the review.

      If u truly want the smoothest 'sharpest angle' in the jaw machining for flush cutters. You really want to go to Japan offerings. Knipex make a decent set you would be happy with, but if you are into details go with 3 Peaks Japan. And just use them for plastic/zip ties.

    Here’s my issue with a combination pair of diagonal cutters, if you grab these thinking they are your regular pair of diagonal cutters, you use the flush portion thinking on something that is heavy duty, bye bye to the pliers. I used to flush cutters every day in the marine electronics business, never did I have a need for a combo diagonal cutter, ever. I have the Snap On EPC160 flush cutters, I keep them separate from the rest of my pliers so they don’t get damaged. I can’t mistake these flush cutters for anything else. For me, I would rather two separate pliers for two very different tasks than a combo pair that combines higher leverage with precision cutting. Just my opinion.

    this could actually be a good strategy for them - make unique tools that, instead of being beefy, are easy to break from misuse. This will actually increase their rate of returns, which will in turn make people find more value in their warranty markup.
    There's only so much people are willing to pay for lifetime warranty when the tool most likely won't need warranty. But if they will break it often...

    You can flush cut zip ties specifically with any snips. Simply angle the cutters to cut away the excess at roughly 25-30°. I'm an emergency vehicle technician and outfitters. Zip ties are a regularly used shop supply at my work. I prefer knipex wire cutters and I have some knipex electronics snips as well. I do not like the bulkiness of most snips. If i need bulky/heavy duty cutters, I get out my mini bolt cutters from knipex as well.

    • @littlejackalo5326
      @littlejackalo5326 Місяць тому

      What kind of "snips." There's a million types of snips.

    • @mrfluffy306
      @mrfluffy306 Місяць тому

      @@littlejackalo5326 edited original comment. Meant to say "any snips". Angle the knives so they sliver off the tiniest piece of the locking end of the ziptie, with the tail end, all in one cut. Now, this is only effective if you have the working space to do so. Otherwise my $30 knipex electronics diagonal cutters work amazing for half the price. German made with a lifetime warranty. Palm sized. I assume if you can't do the above trick, you need smaller cutters for the given space. No need for specific flush cutters just for plastic. Flush cutters are helpful in woodworking where you need to trim something flush with the wood like a nail head

    • @littlejackalo5326

      It's something you have to get over. When I started out and I just had my personal tools and 1 employee, it was tough to let him use all the stuff in the trailer, but as an employer, I can't expect an employee to have every single tool. Fast forward 20 years, and with over 100 employees, 45 trucks/vans/trailers, and millions of dollars of tools, I just have to accept that they'll get broken or stolen. We run a $125k annual tool budget (not including new purchases of big items like total stations and machinery) and around $45k of it is devoted to replacing broken and stolen tools. I have 2 employees who deal with ONLY tools and the inventorying and tracking of them. It hurts to go into their office and see thousands of broken tools waiting to go out to repair or be taken out of inventory. It's just something you have to live with. And trust me, starting out when I he l was just me and 1-3 employees who all used my tools, it was super hard because I didn't have a lot of money.
